TNSPING works but sqlplus can't connect

Oracle works fine on RedHat 5.2 however I cannot connect from a
Win95 Client. Connecting to Oracle/NT works fine. TNSPING to
Oracle/Linux works fine. Telnet,Ftp etc. to Linux works fine as
well.
I don't get an error message but sqlplus freezes completely.
Any help would be appreciated.

Please consider that tnsping is only an echo requester for the
listener daemon, not for the database as well !
Should try the following on linux:
"lsnrctl status "
Which services(ORACLE_SID's) are supported by the listener ?
Do they map to the unique identifier (ORACLE_SID) of your
instance ? (ps -ax |grep ora)
If they don't map change your listener.ora and reload your
daemon. (lsnrctl stop...lsnrctl start)

As I said, tnsping to test or oracle is ok... tnsnames.ora is in the correct path and there it has 775 perms on it. What can be happening?

Also, make sure it is using the correct tnsnames.ora file.
Do you have multiple copies of this file in different directories?
post the contents of your sqlnet.ora file as well.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
Now just synch the iPod.

Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!! I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Internet works but games can't connect

My internet somewhat works . I can browse the web and watch youtube, but games act as if I have no connection. I cannot log into/play League of Legends, Battle.Net, MSN, Steam, WoW. The internet was working fine when I left to travel in early December, but the issue was first observed when I came back on 17th of January. So I doubt that a change of settings has caused the issue. Can anyone suggest possible solutions? I've already tried using Google DNS and using other computers.

Hi Ben, it's a CG3100D-2. But I'm happy to report that I've solved the issue. I believe Telstra has sometimes to consider that there are users with experience in networking that change configurations of modems. In my case I had the modem configured to work on a different subnet as some older devices I had were pre-configured to run in 192.168.1.x. So I changed the internal IP address of the router to 192.168.1.1 and limited the DHCP scope to about 20 IP addresses. That worked fine for years until possibly (my theory) Telstra Air came. I signed up and somehow, so my theory, Telstra Air requires the modem to be on 192.168.0.1. Not sure why this is, but when I changed the IP and subnet back to default (192.168.0.1) respectively 192.168.0.x the symptoms were gone. To test it I changed it back to 192.168.1.1 (note, that guest network 1 also needed to be moved, otherwise there was a conflict) the symptoms appeared again. Not sure what causes the drop outs then, but I'll leave it Telstra technicians who should have an explanation for that :-) All good now and maybe something for a knowledge base and other users.

For other client applications as dba studio, the same happens. The file sqlnet.ora was moved to sqlnet.ora.bk in order not to be used but it did not help. Also commenting its unique parameter, SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS), did not help. Tried, as a third workaround, create a regedit value USE_SHARED_SOCKETS=TRUE but again the same.

Tnsping does not tell you if the service name given in the tns entry in the tnsnames.ora file is correct or not. Make sure that the entry in tnsnames.ora file contains the correct value for service name.
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor
Cause: The service name specified in the connect descriptor is incorrect, or the database service is not registered with the listener.
Action: Perform these steps:
Check to make sure the SERVICE_NAME specified in the connect descriptor is correct.
Ensure that the database instance is running. If the instance not running, start it so that it can register with the listener. You can use the Listener Control utility SERVICES command to see what services are currently registered with the listener.

Tnsping works but sqlplus gives error

I have my db configuration in tnsnames.ora file.
My ping and tnsping to the server works. But when I say sqlplus usrid/pwd@db not working it is giving "TNS could not resolve identifier" error. I checked the usrid and pwd. they are correct.?
What am i missing?

Try this :
- Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
- Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
- Check for an event in the listener.log file.
Send us the Status of lsnrctl and tnsnames you tried ..

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

OK, let's try these................
1 - Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer. Re-connect your printer.
2 - Download & install the Gimp drivers. Make sure the one you install is compatible w/your OS-Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1. Repair permissions, restart your computer & re-connect your printer when done.
The Epson model I have, in order to get it to print wirelessly, I had to install a Gimp driver.

If still unsuccessful after trying all of the above, the problem could be your iBook or human error. You can either call Epson & ask to speak with a Mac savy supervisor or return the printer & find another that is compatible w/your current OS.

I would suggest asking HP, but have you tried scanning with Image Capture or with the Scan utility in Print & Scan system prefs?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Install finally worked - but now I cannot connect

My install did work after I logged on as administrator, and the database home page came up. I was very pleased, BUT then....
I rebooted and re-logged in as my own user, and the database home page would not come up! My services are started, but when I tried connecting (SQL) I got:

shared memory realm does not exist
please help!
ps I did try as administrator again but still can't connect, same problem.

I guess this must be related to when I couldn't connect previously. The DBF files are there in the oradata directory tho!

I have tried to reset the network settings, nothing has worked. I can connect to the internet via my iPhone personal hotspot and all other wireless devices are operating normally on my home wireless network.

I am also having this issue. My boy just got an iPod 4 touch, upgraded to iOS 6. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 108G Wireless Gaming Router. With the iPod I can connect to the router, get an IP address (either DHCP or Static) and even browse through the menu on the router, but I can't connect to the internet.
With a DHCP IP address the iPod give the error "Not connected to the internet" with the static IP address it takes a long time when trying to connect to a website but then it gives the error "server stopped responding".
Clearly the issue is in some setting in the router. I've tried setting up a filter so that the iPod will always have access based on MAC address. I've tried changing the various wireless connection settings, all to no avail. I would greatly appreciate some guidence here.
