To all those who believe ColdFusion is dead..

I am not on here a whole lot, but when I do browse the forum
I always see posts (usually by PHP trolls) that try to make the
claim that ColdFusion is dead. But according to the Tiobe Index
that measures the popularity of all programming languages,
ColdFusion ranks number 20! That's up from last year, where it was
ranked number 30.
Just thought it was interesting
. Here is the link:

Nah, it's not dead:

  • I feel sorry for all those who got screwed over, why not a reca

Maybe creative should do a money back recall on all that had problems with the X-Fi. I mean who wouldn't be mad over a 00 to 200 and over sound card they can't use. I'm lucky I don't have these problems myself, but I feel everyone's pain on this. Maybe someone should sue them over it, but that's just me.

  • For all those who have trouble with their router. STICCY THIS!

    1.) Clicc HERE
    (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/)
and download the file named "tftp.exe".
2.) Clicc HERE and download YOUR, AND I REPEAT YOUR AND I MUST REPEAT AGAIN, YOUR ROUTER'S LATEST FIRMWARE. Please for the love a God, Allah, Jah, or whoever you look up to. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE RIGHT FIRMWARE. If you don't know what version or model router you have, look at your router's home page or you can actually look at your router with your eye. Voila! You now know your router's model/version. Download the lastest firmware for your router.
    -----------------------**IMPORTANT**------------------------------------------------*************-------------------------
It is strongly suggested that you remove all connections from your router except the one for the computer you are using! Not removing the other connections from the router can cause a corrupted firmware, and the dreaded flashing diag light.
3.) Double clicc on/open up the TFTP.exe file. Enter your password (admin if you haven't changed it), use the browse feature to find the (latest)firmware you just downloaded. Then, click on "upgrade". You should see a progress bar, then the message that you have successfully upgraded your router.

I have a WRT54G ver.6. It works perfectly with a windowns PC but not for my Mac. I have high signal but no internet. Do you know if this model is not compatible with Macs? thank you Simone

  • For all those who want 2gb RAM and fast timings...

We all know the current A64 memory limitation on using 4 DIMMS and I know many people want to get 2gb of RAM in their systems with good timings.  Well here is our answer:

Well she is being dificult at the momen... hehe.
3.70 ghz @ 370 mhz frequency with just 1.63 volts vcore is beyond all posibilities. Such speed would require a minimum of 1.65 volts, not less, to be stable. Temperatures, or how they are, indicate the CPU could run up to 1.7 volts with out any problems, its a shame the motherboard doesn't deliver that voltage.
Could a BIOS update change this??? I am not going to run at this speed all the time... but I want to be able to; is volt mod the only posibility?
Like Jack Nicholson has been quoted in some movie - "Women, ya can't live with 'em and ya can't kill 'em!"
Anyways... I don't know man. I'd be wary of a volt mod myself these days, maybe I'll go for it right before next "upgrade cycle" - when it won't matter if I bungle the job with my rudimentary soldering skills.
I wonder what Gary (aka - The Uber Clocker, TheSaucier) is running his rig at these days? He'd probably know. Come to think of it, I haven't "seen" him prowling around hereabouts lately... Hope he hasn't blown himself up or ran afoul of any landslides.
Or maybe he's attained sufficent CPU frequencies to really "Go where no one has gone before"!    More likely he's "jumped ship" & is attaining OC Nirvana with the next "hot" brand of mobo - whatever that is.

  • For all those who waited for it..

As of today Dutch software developers Sloof Lirpa are releasing their Android emulator for Windows Phone. This great app will run any Android 4.x compatible app and give all you windows Phone users access to the vast number of games, tools and gizzmos from the Google Play store.
A spokes person from Google announced they were thrilled to see Windows Phone users come into the fold and als announced because of this they decided to no longer stall and block their services to Windows Phone. Full and unrestriced access to Mps, gmail and other services would be available immidiately.
So there it is, Sloof Lirpa to the rescue!

  • For All Those Who Miss The Old Layout After Upgrad...

So yeah, I feel your pain but I've found a kind of workaround that will give you some of the missing layout features you miss from the previous versions of Skype, including the compact view and opening chats in new windows.
To do so, follow these steps.
    Log into Skype, (obviously).
On the page that appears click VIEW.
    Then click on SPLIT WINDOW.
Then close the second window that appears.
Please be sure to tell anyone you know about this topic and to reply to keep others aware of the workaround.
It should also be noted that you'll still be running 6.21 or 6.22, so any changes to the client itself will still be in effect and some of the minor cosmetic changes, (such as borders and colour schemed), will still be present too, but fundamentally it will look and work like previous versions.
Admin's: please feel free to pin this topic if a great deal of people find it helpful, I definately think that others would be happy with this help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There's also a really useful blog article that summarizes how you can tweak the new layout: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/11/13/getting-to-grips-with-the-2014-skype-layout/

I just upgraded to version 6.22.0.107. My chat window for IMs now has blue text on a lighter blue background. Now some of us are old and decrepit and find this difficult to see. Is there a way to change the chat area text back to black on a white background?
Currently there's no option to deactivate the blue chat bubble background, but we've heard the feedback from quite a few users and are looking into how we can improve the readability.

  • For all those who say Verizon never calls back.

I tried to activate a STB last night that was picked up at a store just before closing. The box would not activate, even after the Cable CARD did an automatic firmware update. I contacted Customer Support and the box still would not activate because of some type of pending order on my account. Normal tech support agents cannot access accounts, for the customers protection, and theirs.
I was told that I would receive a return call within one to two hours. WOW! Within 15 minutes a supervisor called back and said the issue was resolved with the pending order for some type of future activation. Glitch? But the Supervisor had the box up and running within 30 minutes, and staid on the phone with me until I could go upstairs and Verify the proper operation.
Kudos to Verizon and their Fiber Solutions Center CSRs!

that would explain why I never get a call back - my guy was busy calling you

  • For those who are interested in buying a W520: flaw summary

    Hey,
I´m still indecisive whether I want to get my own W520 or not. Part of it of course is the number of issues people have been unveiling in this forum. For all those who are considering too, and for my self I'd like to summarize the bugs and flaws that are still present and those that had been fixed by Lenovo since the launch of the W520 back in march.
No question, the W520 is a nice and impressive machine and no laptop out there comes with really no problems at all.
I guess it's just looking like Lenovos are quite flawed these days because everyone expects those to be 100% fine, since they are thinkpads and thinkpads are as a matter of a fact flawless.
Quick list of things that should (hopefully) sooner or later be fixed:
    Software bugs and flaws:
power management regulation that's supposed to keep the battery alive by limiting the CPU to 800 MHz does get confused by changing the power supply while sleeping, resulting in a throttled machine with AC power supply or a unthrottled machine running on battery, unless you plug-out and plug-in your power supply again while running
troublesome bluetooth driver wiped some harddrives (fixed now, or at least that particular driver is no longer downloadable)
fancontrol goes crazy and pulses every 5 or 30 seconds (for many people)
fan is too active (too loud) while having no or low load on the system
warmboot issues with an SSD as main drive delays startup because of an unnecessary check
some driver seems to constantly write something onto your main drive while the ODD is mounted (which would lead to wearing out a SSD, not confirmed by others yet)
    Hardware bugs and flaws:
fan creates a high frequent noise starting at 2nd level of speed (?)
many accessory products like the docking station and the ultra bay HDD carrier were advertised as fitting for the W520 as well as for the W510, but obviously don't fit
(two people in this forum had dieing speakers that would do nothing but make a clicking noise)
Is this pretty much what I'll run into when I order my own W520 or did I miss something?
    For the time being:
    using TPFC
always restart manually with "shutdown" while using a ssd
double checking if it's the right docking and ultra bay for the w520
and plugging the power supply just after turning the machine on
solves all the issues reportet here, except for the high pitched noise of the fan, that many people complain about,
    or doesn't it?
(not listed abone for beeing more a feature than a bug or something like that:
ultra nav issues caused by manufacturers settings
network issues caused by manufacturers setting
    problems with unsupported ram)
    so long,
and thanks for all the fish

The issue that is most annoying for me is"
    - warmboot issues with an SSD as main drive delays startup (by 40 seconds) because of an unnecessary check
(I have the Intel 510 SSD).
Otherwise, the W520 is the best laptop I have ever owned and very FAST!!!

  • HT5246 The above info is confuses me.  I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running  i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled.  I also believed this Trojan horse affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.

The above info re the Flashback removal tool confuses me.  I thought this trojan horse affected those who had Java (JRE) up and running  i.e.,Safari security Java checkbox enabled.  I also believed this Trojan horse also affected those using Snow Leopard. Clarify please.

There are several variants of the trojan. The first ones were released as installers for Adobe Flash and therefore did not require you to have Java on your system. Later variants took advantage of a Java vulnerability and could install themselves by simply visiting a rogue Web site. Therefore, even without Java installed if you had run a rogue updater for Adobe Flash or Reader, then you might have installed the trojan.
The trojan also affects Snow Leopard and prior versions of OS X (so far the code is known to be intel-only, but this is unconfirmed), but Apple has only issued patches for supported versions of the OS (version 10.6 or later).
Apple's removal tools run in OS X 10.6 or later if you instlal the Java update, and the standalone removal tool is for Lion only. Why Apple does not offer options for other operating systems is beyond me, but that's the way of things. Right now there are other tools you can use to check for and remove the malware on versions of OS X that Apple does not support: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57413811-263/flashback-malware-removal-tool -roundup/

  • Future Music good for those who have not yet learned all

Future Music Magazine, which I get on the magazine rack at my WalMart, has some good stuff in November-December issues for those who need to learn more. I am talking about a two-part article, "The A to Z of digital music". or something like that. A through M is covered in the November issue. N through Z is planned for December. Topics A-Z are explained in a paragraph or more. EQ is covered for example. November also has a tutorial sort of thing on Reverb.
Future Music has not always been so helpful. I did not find much in the October issue akin to what I have mentioned above.
I think these two issues of Future Music will be quite helpful to me and perhaps to others among us also.
    LuckyMan

Correction. Various topics, beginning with A through Z, are EACH explained in a paragraph or more. Sometimes there is a little essay on a topic. Good for newbies and sometimes good for non-newbies who must do not know it all yet.

  • Some dvi questions for those who really know there stuff!

Hi all, haven't lurked these forums in a few weeks but just had a quick question for those who wanna build up some "points". I'm trying to connect my MBP 15" (1.83ghz) to my Dell LCD 26" T.V. via DVI. Anyhoo, the DVI port on an MBP is a DVI-I (Dual link 24 + 5 pin) fenmale port while my Dell LCD sports a DVI-D (Dual link 24 + 1 pin) female port. Anyhoo, I went to my local Circuit City store and picked up a 6.6ft DVI-D (Single link 18 + 1 pin) male cable to hook both devices up. Should this work? If those have no idea what I'm talking about, I've included a link with a picture of allt he different DVI ports:
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/59/Dvitypes.png/180px-Dvitypes.png
If I haven't explained myself well, please post and I'll do my best to clarify.

Am I missing something? Do you actually have a problem making this work? If the plugs you chose are mechanically compatible (and both are DVI D, dual-link), then there should not be a problem.
Ah. I see the concern. The extra four pins. I believe they make the connector able to supply hybrid DVI-A and DVI-D. The Mac output is hybrid so it can easily be adapted drive a VGA monitor, too.
I think you should be fine.
I have a ViewSonic 1600x1200 LCD monitor with a DVI (single) and it works superbly with the Mac.

  • TO ALL THOSE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ICHAT AND AIM ON MACBOOKS

I've had a lot of trouble with AIM and iChat on my new Macbook, but I believe I've figured out the answers to all the problems I and others have encountered.
Firstly, for those who's AIM continually crashes and displays the message "The application AIM unexpectedly shut down," my answer to your problem is too many sent messages. Watch the bar in the bottom left of your chat window, when it reaches red, your application will probably shut down.
Secondly, for those experiencing difficulties with iChat, it's most likely a problem with communitcation between your wireless router and your computer. Try these steps:
    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. From the View, choose Sharing.
    3. Click the Firewall tab.
    4. Click New.
    5. From the Port Name pop-up menu, choose Other.
If you have a Macbook, you'll probably have a TCP Port Number Bar and a UDP Port Number Bar. Try these steps:
    1. In the TCP Port Number(s) Bar, type: 5190, 5298
    2. In the UDP Port Number(s) Bar, type: 1024-5219, 5221, 5223-65535
    3. In the Description Bar, type: iChat AV
    4. Click OK
    5. Click Start above the window with your firewall settings, and make sure the box next to iChat AV is checked
    6. Relaunch iChat
Good Luck! I hope this solves some of the problems that people have been encountering.

    Rob
My Linksys is the WAG54G, which might be different from your WRT54G. Currently, UPnP is disabled and the Router ports are a bit of a mystery, because they're forwarded to an IP address that's outside of the current DHCP Address Range! Once I got it working, I was reluctant to change it even though it looked anomalous.
The Firewall is on, with the iChat ports open that I listed in the previous post.
My two regular buddies are my sons, who both use Trillian Pro on a Windows machine. Works pretty well despite occasional freezes or garbled sound.
    Hope you get sorted soon.
