If you registered your computer after June 11th, you were entitled to a free upgrade to Mountain Lion. See http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/.
If you went ahead an purchased ML before recieving your redemption code then you're just out $20. Not a big deal - you should have been instructed on how to get a redemption code for the OS X update.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Mountain Lion was reedemed but will not download
I just received my emails from Apple with the redemption codes, etc. Received the link to download Mountain Lion in my app store. It says "downloading" in the Launch Pad, but in the App Store when I click OS X Mountain it says - "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store."
Across from that seemlingly deadlink for Mountain Lion is the button "Download" When I click it nothing happens and "download" just lights up again.
Is it downloading properly since it says "downloading..." on my Launch Pad? Is there any way for me to see how much time remains on the download?
Please Help.

Someone stole my MacBook Pro and I thought maybe I could find out how to get the serial number and purchase price for the insurance carrier. I looked in the community and found finding an iPod with iTunes, but iTunes on my iPad doesn't have preferences, so now I don't know what to do. Can I call someone? Is there really any help. Next time I'm gonna buy from amazon because you can go right on to my order history and have the information right at your finger tips in a matter of minutes instead of getting the run around!
Well, if you don't have a copy of your purchase receipt, then you can find the serial number in your support profile if you registered the machine. As for a copy of your invoice, call the Apple store and ask for a copy.

Thanks, but there has to be someway through ITunes or something to make this not happen. It used to not do this so something with an update or something must have changed a setting somewhere. Anyone else have any ideas?

Most often due two one of the following.
1 Install current version of iTunes, older Macintosh Systems will not support current version of iTunes, make sure you have current version of iTunes.
Or
2 Your computer Hosts file is blocking Apple from communicating with iTunes. To determine this, search Hosts on computer, then open Hosts file with a word processor. If the Hosts file contains this, gs.apple.com it is blocking Apple. This line with its number must be inactivated (removing it works). A stock Hosts file does not contain this or block Apple.
Here is Apple information on this problem:
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck. Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch. If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside. If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.

I get the following error message when I connect a usb ethernet adapter to my new MacBook Pro: Unsupported - You cannot use an Apple USB Modem with this computer. I live where we only have dial-up and the Apple Store said this is what I need. In addition, when I connect the phone to the connecter it falls out, it will not click in.
Why are you using a usb ethernet adaptor? Just plug the modem into the usb port.

This MacBook Pro (circa 2011) is the second Apple laptop I have owned with the exact same issue. When I change sites (or at least many of them), the Mac issues a single chime. I do not have any clue what this might be ... or if it even needs repairing if I can stand the chime.
