Hi Raghu,
BW is part of SCM system.  As you have already worked in BW systems, I would suggest to take
training at SAP in that stuff on SCM lines.
I have attached a link containing the training catalog of SAP on those lines.  Please choose your
relevant area in this list.

  • Suggestion/help; want to become Techno Functional Consultant

I'm a SD Consltant, want to become Techno functional Cnt. please help me. is it ok to learn ABAP.
please guide me, what r the topics of ABAP I'd learn and from where I should start. which can be helpful to me to get it done.
Badly need of that, please help
    Thanks
    Sarat

Yes, you can become a techno functional consultant.
You can start by learning Debugging. That is a very important tool. And being a functional consultant it will be a boon for you. And I think this is the only thing you need to learn as far as ABAP is concerned.
Try to get familiar with ABAP transactions like SE38, SE80, SE11, SE14, SM30 etc.. etc....
Gradually you will learn to use them.

  • Pro's and cons of becoming SAP functional consultant

    Dear All,
I am shifting towards SAP functional consulting job. I want to know the Pro's and con's of SAP functional consultant job.

You can unload a lot of work on the technical consultant / developer and let him join the logical dots of what you're trying to design, and you get paid 50% more on top, now how's that?
All you need to do is look business and talk business.

  • I am looking to build my career as a Functional Consultant in Oracle SCM-OM

    Hello ,
As in Subject i just briefed about my expectation.I just want to give little more info about my tenure so far.I am a BSc(in Bio science) holder with close to 6 years of Operational experience.I have worked in SAP platform for OM and later i have worked in Software Licensing in Oracle R12.I am a SQL certified from OU. I have read couple of post from OTN and some other sites aswel just to know how could i start learn about Consultant role.I tried to find out if i can get in touch with any person who is a Functional consultant and learn from him/her with real time implementation.I have checked in some of Oracle authorized training centers where the cost is too high but not sure whether learning from there will be useful. Please let me know whether my expectation could be fulfill and suggest me the best way to learn also.
Thanks in advance for your time & reply.

The first query points to many threads where a similar question has been asked. You can change the query search words to get more hits.
If you are looking specifically for OM, it will also help if you network with some non-IT guys to understand how, in general, Order Management is used in various industries. You can talk to Order Entry clerks to understand order taking process (such as customer calls, they create a quote, customer approves, quote is turned into order), you can talk to Warehouse personnel to understand order shipping process (Such as order ship date nears, they run a report to find which orders need to ship in the next x days, they generate pick tickets to get material, they generate packing slips, generate invoices, shipping notices etc.)
Talk to some AR folks to understand credit processes and invoice /collection processes.
These folks don't have to use Oracle. What you are looking for a generic understanding of how the business /processes work.

  • From an ABAP developer to a functional consultant

    Hi,
I need some advices to help me improve my work as a junior functional consultant. I have been an ABAP developer for 2 - 3 years and then I moved to the role of functional consultant.
I have read that there is a higher probability to become successful as a functional consultant if you have a business background rather than a technical background...I have been moved to a junior functional consultant role for more than a year - I've been reading books on configuration and functional process flows and unfortunately the assignments on the project I'm working on are mostly specific developments rather than configuration of standard flows which gives me litlle exposure...
What can I do to improve my functional skills and is it true that it is more difficult to become a functional consultant if we have a technical backgorund?
Thanking in advance anyone who would reply.

What can I do to improve my functional skills
Gain experience and be open-minded. It's pretty much the only way to improve your problem solving and thus your "functional" skills.
Is it true that it is more difficult to become a functional consultant if we have a technical backgorund?
I don't think it can be expressed that vastly. I would personally always choose someone with a technical background over the one who talks about "Business" and essentially doesn't really know what he's talking about...
By the way, have you tried the Career forums?:

  • Difference in roles of functional consultant & Business Analyst

    Hi All
What are the differences in the roles of business analysts & functional consultants in SAP? At which levels of organization hierarchy they fall?
    Regards
    Abhijeet

    Hello Abhijeet,
To add on the comments Marilyn already posted, my experience at customer projects is that SAP Functional Consultants are more focussed on one subject matter/business domain like HR, CRM, Finance, SCM, SRM, etc. which are related to the functional modules SAP delivers. The business side of IT products as you can say. Good functional consultants know the details of that specific subject matter and are able to translate these to functional requirements for the implementation of the SAP module.
A Business Analist is a more generic role. Mostly found in the CIO office or at the Information Management part of a business division/unit. He/she translates more high-level business goals into concrete improvement programs and designs.
To make a very bold distinction: Business Analists more like are employees of the company trying to improve its business, where SAP Functional Consultants are hired from consulting firms to do their specific trick. Off course this not always is true, because roles are defined differently from company to company as Marilyn already stated.
I welcome anyone who likes to add comments on this view.
    Regards, Edo

  • Career in SAP MDG for functional consultants.

Can a functional consultant with no ABAP skills learn MDG  ? What skills are required to become MDG consultant ?

    Hi Kanishk,
Yes functional consultant can take SAP MDG and work on that.  It is just configuring and mapping master data according to different SAP and Non-SAP systems master data.  The market is very slow in MDG because big companies only want to implement for master data harmonization due to heterogeneous environment.  If you do a job search, companies posted only less jobs.  Think before you take the decision but if you stand for 5 years down the line this MDG will have a big market in the world.  So you need a patience if you are taking this module.

No no, its not about feeling bad. I need to know everything in and out. It might be a career swipe for me.
Its "pursue" not purchase - I meant should I begin training for SAP MM.
From your response Mr. Dev, seems like your acknowledging to the idea that I should start SAP MM.
Could you however evaluate it on the basis of my qualification and experience? Would appreciate it immensely.

  • Sql for sap functional consultant

    Hi sap consultants,
I have a query related to sql for functional consultant.
My question is what is the use of sql for functional consultant and what is the future prospect
after learning it, means will it help in career growth in sap and also to build my candidature strong.
Please suggest me regarding this.will highly appreciate your replies.
    Thanks in advance.

    Prafulla,
Have a look at some of the blogs collected under SAP Career Blog Links. Your best route to becoming an SAP Functional specialist is to work your way into the support group of the company in which you already work. Experience is more important than the certificate. Get your experience supporting SAP as an SAP CRM specialist first, THEN get your certificate.
If you try to do the reverse, you're signing up for a lot of heartache (see blogs in the previous link page). Whatever you do... do NOT quit your job to sign up for training/certification on the hopes that you'll find a job easily after you are certified. End user experience is better than nothing, but does not necessarily "count" as experience when you're trying to get a job for the first time as a functional specialist.
Only AFTER you've been a specialist for a while does the end user experience add clout to your credentials as you can say " I've experienced the FULL spectrum of SAP" while folks who never had the end user experience seem somewhat lacking by comparison.
So *eventually*, end user experience + specialist experience + certification = more than the sum of the parts.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,

  • Sap mm functional consultant to technofunctional consultant.

Hi! Am sriharsh. Am working as a SAP MM CONSULTANT from past 2 years & want to switch on from functional to technofunctional side. So kindly guide me how i can make my acreer as a technofunctional consultant ?
What are the requirement/knowledge i should gain to become technofunctional consultant?

Of course there are other technical modules in SAP. But the question is how will you utilize your abilities of being a techno-functional consultant?
You need to ask yourself, how and where an MM consultant can help an organization in a technical area, say, BASIS? Do you really think that an organization would let an MM person handle tasks like moving transport requests? Wouldn't that give you the power to move your own TRs bypassing the existing compliances?
And say you choose Security, you could assign yourself any role in any system - again breaking all norms and compliances.
Say you choose BW, even there your knowledge in MM is in no special way "tapped" to make the BW system better. This task will be better handled by a dedicated BW consultant. The same goes for BO/HANA/Portal developer or any other technical modules with the possible exception of ABAP.
Although there are different opinions about pros and cons of being a technofunctional consultant (meaning Functional Modules in combination with ABAP), I lean towards the group that feel technical and functional modules are best kept separated.
