To buy iMovie6 or wait for iMovie 7

I am using iMovie 4 and wondering if I should spend the money for iMovie6, wait for iMovie7 or just keep on using iMovie 4. Will iMovie7 require the new Leopard operating system?

  • I am planning to buy iPhone 4S? shall i buy 4S or wait for 5?

    hi friends ...
This is Shreenivas from India.. i am planning to buy iPhone 4S... i need urs all suggestions..please suggest me..
whether to buy 4S or wait for 5? now i have money in my hand..so want to purchase now only..because later money goes off means it ll be sad for me..

Apple have not announced the release on the next generation iPhone so it's difficult to suggest you wait as no one here knows how long you would have to wait.

  • Buy CS4 or wait for CS5

I'm relatively new to Photoshop, and I'm planning of buying it for my home PC in the next few months, but I was wondering if it would be better to wait for CS5 since I read it was coming "Mid 2010". Thanks in advance!

You beat me to the punch! I was going to add your "leaked" info.
Still, Adobe has historically given a "grace period" to buyers of previous versions, usually within 30 days of release. Who knows here? Should be the same, or very similar.
Now, will PS (and the other common suite programs) be on pre-sale upon release, or later? Will the release be THAT much later? When will the "grace period" kick in?
Even with an unveiling date, there will still be questions.

PS - some folk, with very recent Flash versions have ended up with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) CS5! Do not know what that is about, but I find it interesting.

  • Should I buy now or wait for iMac upgrade?

After the recent iMac price reduction, should I buy now or wait until the end of the year for a potential upgrade? Does anybody think there will be much of an upgrade? Retina Display?
I am looking at getting an upgraded 27" with i7, 16GB and 3TB Fusion.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

General advice is if you don't need to buy then don't buy.  There is always something newer coming out in the next 12 months.  That said, also consider what you have now.  Sometimes newer models cut off older software or hardware and buying a new model may mean you have to buy all new software or some mission critical piece of hardware.  In a science lab where I worked they had old equipment for which there were no software upgrades for that model.  Buying too new a computer would have meant spending half a million dollars on related hardware upgrades dictated by the backward compatible software limitations of that $1500 computer.  They held off buying a new computer until they could afford new machinery.

  • Mac Mini: buy now or wait for the Speed Bump?

    Hi guys
I wanted to ask you something. First of all, would you buy a Mac Mini now o would you wait for a little hardware upgrade? It'd be my first Mini (I already have an iMac) and it would exclusively used as a Media Center, connected to a Sharp HD 37" (not Full HD though).
I was wondering if the graphic card of the Mini could support mkv files (the HD compressed with the mkv algorithm) because they have a high bitrate and the graphic card is quite weak (IMHO).
I just wanted to know what you think, I hope you can advise me.
    Thank you for your attention.

Thank you guys for your answer.
I think that I'll wait for a little hw upgrade. I know that with Apple nothing is sure but I wanna buy a Mac Mini just to use it as a media center so I have to be sure that it'll work fine playing mkv files. Also I've promised my father that he'll be able to see as many HD films as he wants so I want to wait. Also because he's just bought me an iMac so you can understand I must be 100% sure.
If someone else can give me further information about mkv files please tell me.
    Thank you all.

  • Should I buy now or wait for Windows 7 that is installed at the factory

I'd like to buy the Acer 1410, should I wait until it's being shipped with Windows 7?
Yes, the  free upgrade to Windows 7 is nice, but I'm concerned about all the drivers....WIFI, video, camera, etc. etc...  I'm also concerned about the how the Vista turned battery management will interact with WIndows  7?  Seems that would be the toughest thing to fix?
Is anyone running Window7 RC on a 1410?  If so, how are things going ?
I called Acer support and of course they thought now was a great time to buy one.  The rep. stated if I have issues after the upgrade, they would help get it working...LOL
If not, I could send it to Texas for repair!!  Really....
I'm surprised more people haven't posted their experiences with the 1410 on the net..  It apppears to be a great, little computer.
I was also considering the Gateway LT3103U, but it is not eligible for the Windows 7 free upgrade and has less memory, etc..  Maybe someone change my mind on that one ? I wasn't very impressed with the Gateway support site, compared to Acer's.  (Gee, aren't they the same company, go figure ! )
I wonder if Bestt Buy will offer the Acer 1410 ?????  Looks like a hit to me!

When it comes to specific sales questions, I don't know about model releases.
When it comes to waiting to purchasing a computer now with Vista, I say Yes... only if it qualifies for the Windows 7 upgrade for free (minus S&H). I've heard good things about the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.
I use Windows 7 RC1 and I love it. I used it on my primary computer which is a Sony Laptop.

  • Should I buy the new MacBook Pro 17 right now or wait for longer?

I've seen a lot of people complaining issues of the new MBP 17. I just don't know it's the right time to buy one or wait for onther months. I am scared that if I ordered one online, and can't return it.....

In my opinion not doing custom if you can afford it is a mistake. The only drawback is yes you cannot return it, but if your that unsure about it, do what i did. i went to an apple store and played with it. The only unsure thing i had was if i would like the operating system over windows.
Also posted questions here. The downside of not least getting a higher processor is that it requires replacing sooner. Rather spend a few extra now and be able to use it an extra year or so. i speak from expierence of not upgrading and seeing my 3000 dollar sony blue ray i bought 3 years ago become an expensive blue ray player because i didnt upgrade my processor from a 2.0 to 2.5 back then. If i did it still be a decent computer but alot of games now require over the 2.0 to even run at low specs.
But i buy for the computer to least last me 3 years, maybe you replace sooner. Again this is only my opinion. and for what its worth ANY computer you buy if you go to the forums of that computer you will see complaints and problems about it. Just Apple is a big name and this is a new release so the news people still have this computer in thier radar.

  • Should You Buy An iPhone Now, Or Wait For The Next One?

    Great article by HuffPost Tech.
The most common thing I get asked whenever I tell anyone I'm a tech writer is some version of the question: "Should I get a new iPhone now, or should I wait until the next one comes out?" It is as though my business card should read not "Technology Writer," and instead "iPhone Psychic"
Not that I am not happy to prognosticate! And in that spirit, here's a look at the questions on everyone's mind: Should I buy an iPhone now? And if not now, when?
First, let me say that I am fascinated by the peculiar kind of panic that I encounter in people I meet who are deciding on a purchase date for their next Apple phone. I call it the iSenberg Uncertainty Principle: Potential iPhone buyers exist in a constant state of anxiety, perpetually worrying that purchasing an iPhone on any given day will mean that they will miss out on the inevitably cooler version with the mind-blowing new features soon down the road. The Cupertino Sword of Damocles constantly dangles over their heads, threatening to pierce them with unhipness and iShame.
Here is one solid piece of advice I can offer to help you avoid the Sword: Do not buy any new iPhone until September. Apple has an annual media conference each September, and every blog with the word 'Mac' in the title is reporting that Steve Jobs is going to do his black turtleneck thing and introduce some kind of new iPhone there. The September Media conference is generally used to present the new iPods, but as All Things Digital reports, Apple plans to "commandeer" the conference for its official iPhone announcement.
Apple is long overdue to release its new iPhone anyway, if history is any indication. Look at this handy little timeline:
    June 2007: original iPhone released
    June 2008: iPhone 3G released
    June 2009: iPhone 3Gs released
    June 2010: iPhone 4 released
    June 2011: Nothing!
In other words, the 5th generation iPhone is already a month late, so it makes sense that the rumors are swirling. Apple's tardiness can be explained by the fact they've actually already released two iPhones in 2011 -- the Verizon iPhone in February and the unlocked iPhone 4 in June. Their schedule is all screwy, like a traveler trying to get over jet lag. But all signs point to them getting right with a September Apple iPhone release.
So what jaw-dropping new feature will this iPhone boast? We're hearing that the "iPhone 4S," as it is rumored to be called, won't be the dramatic re-imagining that many of us have come to expect with each new iPhone release. Tech blogThis Is My Next thinks that it will be thinner and lighter, and that it will run on a new chip; the New York Times thinks that it will be the same dimensions as the iPhone 4 but that it will be cheaper. Bloomberg agrees with This Is My Next on the chip and adds that the rear-facing camera will upgrade to 8 megapixels from 5 megapixels.
Now, even if you're just a normal, non-geek iPhone user, who doesn't care if the rear-facing camera doubles its megapixel count, or if Apple has changed the manufacturer of its data processors, or whatever, you still need to at least wait for the alleged iPhone announcement, and here's why: if history is any indicator, the introduction of a newer iPhone model is accompanied by a drop in price of older iPhone models. When the iPhone 3GS was announced, the price of the iPhone 3G dropped by $100; when the iPhone 4 was announced, the price of an iPhone 3GS also dropped by $100. Even if you know that you're not going to drop $400 on whatever iPhone Apple begins peddling in September, there is no sense in paying more money for an iPhone 4 or 3Gs now when the base price of both seem like locks to drop in two months.
But before we start fantasizing, how can we be so certain that Jobs is even going to announce an iPhone in September if Apple hasn't so much as indicated such a thing? How do we know that all of these rumors weren't just started by lonely nerds like me and my co-workers emailing each other from our mother's basements, inciting iPhone rumors all on our own?
Well, first of all, I don't live with my mother; and second of all, the new iPhone rumors have sprung forth from two reliable sources held in high journalistic regard.
The first is esteemed, award-winning tech journalist John Paczkowski of All Things Digital, who blazed iPhone prognostication trails by predicting back in April that an updated iPhone 4 would be unveiled at the September Apple music Conference and has steadfastly maintained the claim is true through June and into July. In fact, he confirmed as recently as July 5 that a shiny new iPhone looked to be in the early stages of supply chain production, and that people close to the company still believe that the new iPhone would be ready for the Jobs treatment in September.
So there is Reliable Source One.
Reliable Source Number Two is the Wall Street Journal, not exactly a one-laptop operation. The paper gives "the end of September" as a target launch date, which squares up with both Paczkowski's prediction of a September announcement and release. This doesn't even mention This Is My Next's separate prediction of a September release, nor 9to5Mac reporting that there are going to be two new iPhones in September, one low-end and high-end. But now we're falling down the rabbit hole and into the basement again, so let's focus:
There is likely to be a new iPhone in September. It will likely affect the price of all the other iPhones. The iPhones available now -- the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3Gs -- will probably be cheaper in two months. Unless you drop your current iPhone in a pool, a bathtub or a volcano, do not buy an iPhone until Steve Jobs opens his beautiful brilliant mouth at the Apple conference in early September. When the post-turtleneckian dust settles, we'll have a clearer picture of whether or not this rumored new iPhone is worth the money. And then we can talk about--well, whether or not you should buy an iPhone now, or wait until the next one comes out.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/12/iphone-release-5-september_n_896345.html

Apple has two prototypes out testing now.  One is a thinner totally redesigned case.  The problem with it is that Foxconn can't seem to build it.  Hence the delay.  The other prototype uses the existing case, but with updated (read dual core) internals.  If they can get production up by September the first phone will be released and will be the iPhone 5.  If they cannot, then the second prototype will be released as the iPhone 4GS.

  • Need Suggestion: buy ThinkPad Edge E540 or wait for Edge E550?

    Hello Everyone,
I need suggestion what to do: buy ThinkPad Edge E54020C6003AGE (i7 4702MQ & GF 740M 2GB) or wait for Edge E550?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Edge-E540-20C6003AGE-Notebook.114194.0.html in Germany is price about 830 Euros
I use ThinkPads in last 10 years for study and gaming (R60, SL510, Edge 520) and wish sell my Edge E520 replace it with new one due stuck with old Radeon 6630M drivers (I cannot use a new AMD drivers when I try I getting mostly BOSD errors and latest Official Lenovo driver is from 2012) second reason is that E520 fan cannot be accessed & cleaned on easy way.
In which month Lenovo mostly release new Edges, What is your option are Broadwell CPU + GeForce 840/940M in Edges worth to wait?
In future I try to avoid AMD GPU due poor drivers support.
I know that there is much better notebooks for gaming but I like ThinkPads

To support it the model you're buying should be equiped with the :
    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Wireless network adapters and core i5/i7 cpu's . But careful, not all E540s come with the intel wireless card
Just check this and you're good to go.

  • Wait for new Mac Pro's or buy a 27" iMac?

Hi, I currently own an early 2009 2.66 ghz Quad Core Mac Pro with 8 gigs of memory. My Mac Pro has 4 internal Hard drives filled up with data (over 4 tb of storage space).
I plan to upgrade to either the new Mac Pro's  (ariving in late July or early august) or the new 27" iMac. I'm aware that if I went with the Mac Pro then I will need to buy a 27" LED Cinema display.
How do the new 27" iMac's with SSD drives in terms of performance compare to my older Mac Pro? Storage space is important to me.
If I customized a 27" imac then I would get it with 16 gb of memory, a 256gb SSD and a 2TB Drive. unfortunately it's still not much space for me. One option is to buy a Drobo FS NAS and add additional storage to my imac that way. The other is to wait for the new Mac Pro's.
The other is the price. I don't want to spend more than $4000 for a new computer. If I customized a current Mac Pro with 512gb SSD and a 2tb drive, (I will add more drives in the future) a 27" LED Apple Cinema Display, 16 gb of memory then I will be paying over $6000.
That's way higher than I'd like to spend. Will the new Mac Pro's have much improved for cheaper?
What do you think that I should do?

Why not see what Barefeats and Macperformanceguide have already done in terms of performance and buying advice?
With iMac, you don't compete with say 6-core 3.33GHz or have upgrad options and may be limited in other ways. And of course you don't want to pay for Apple price and slow SSD. Besides which most Mac Pro owners use an SSD for system, and don't want 500GB SSD (which is what Apple's would be).
just buy a good SSD now from OWC now.  Buy the minimal configuration from Apple, a WD Black 2TB is less than $149.
As for outgrowning a two year old Mac Pro... see if you can upgrade the processor.
Do you think you will be ready for having to use Lion and that your software will be too?
    The 2010 2.8GHz $2119 + 3 x 8GB OWC, SSD, W3670 3.2GHz 6-core $600 is not even $3995. As for 27" I leave that to others and whether 3rd party.  But, you're saying you can't use the monitor you have now?

  • Should I buy iPod Touch 4g or wait for 5g ?

I want to buy an iPod touch but I'm confused that whether I should buy iPod Touch 4g or wait for the 5g to come ? Please help. I would also like to know when is Ipod 5g likely to come ?

No one knows when or if another iPod Touch will be produced. If anyone claims to know they're lying. Besides, speculating about future or unreleased products is against this support site's terms of use.
For what it's worth the iPod Touch is amazing, and I'm sure you will enjoy many years of use. Every day that goes by waiting for a new one is a day you could have been enjoying yours.
    Hope this helps you decide!

  • Buy MACBOOK now or wait for newer ?

I'm a student in college right now in need of a laptop and stuff. I'm not really looking for power as much as I'm looking for efficiency. My dilemma arises when I can buy a macbook with like -$100 or -$200 if your in college and stuff + a $300 iPod touch before september 15th or should i wait for the newer version of macbooks, which I heard will be released in mid-late september.
What is your opinion on this one? I can still live by and wait without a laptop as school just barely started so i barely need to talk notes and stuff...

    Don't trust such resources.
Read what I have to say about new Macs:

I think that you should not get a new MacBook now, because the fact that you "don't" need it now. Apple has not released any information about anything new, and they just released the new iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBooks and MacBook Airs so I doubt that Apple will release any new computer products in the near future. Although Apple may surprise you, but I suggest waiting until you really need one, and then purchase it.
