Is it possible to change the technical name once activated?
How to change the Technical name of customize characteristics of infoobject?

Hi,
You cannot change the techincal name ever...its not possible and not even basis can do that.
I am not sure but try to open the system with the basis help and delete the entries from all the infoobject related SAP standarad tables...may be this can help.

This may be the reason you are getting an error.
The target InfoCube, the InfoCube for the query copies, must contain all the InfoObjects of the source InfoCube (InfoCube of the original queries).
The another reasons may be the copying of queries within the same cube shouldn't be done by RSZC.
It's better to approach the Bex Query designer.

Hi Niten,
As said by others it is not possible to change the technical name of any BW Object as there are too many complexities involved. However a possible option is create another ODS/cube and queries as the copy of the existing one and then transfer all the data.

I have created a n Info Cube with the name ZXXTB02 follwed by the creation of Transformation and DTP . But Latter i found that I violated the naming convention,
So can i change the name of my Info cube to Z1XXTB02 or I have to create a new Infocube ...

Hi Anurag,
Unless you can do some modification at the table level, you cannot change the technical name of the cube, so may be better to copy this as a new cube and give the desired technical name.

Ravi,
You cant change the Technical name of the cube but you can change the description of the Cube. If you want to have a Cube with the same properties and with different Techname and Description better you do copy from the base cube and rename as per your requirement.

1) In RSPC1 give the technical name of the cain..
2) It will open in design mode
3) there where we write tcode...there you write COPY.......
4)Then it will ask for a new technical name for the chain...there you gave a new technical name and copy the same chain..........
5) Save it..........Schedule and activate it.....

I am trying to rename it using save as and deleting the previous query. Is there any option without using save as u can rename the technical name of the query?

Hi Prasad,
I don't think change the technical name of the existing querry. But you can do save as the existing query with the desired technical nbame and then can delete the old query.

I have read one document(Note:28397.1 in metalink) saying that using uifont.ali file we can change the font at run time, but i have used this only for report

I have created a query on an info provider and now I want to change the description as well as the technical name of this query. Is there a way to achievce this? I know I can copy the query rename there. But is there any other way to do this task?

Hi,
you can use the save as function to store the query under a new technical name. The text/description can be changed at any time but not the technical name. The only solution for that is what I mentioned at the beginning. After doing that, delete the 'old' query.

I'd never heard about it before.

Display description of report rather than the technical name

I have made a few reports using the Bex report designer that have been emailed to end users by the bex broadcast facility as a PDF
However, when end users receive the email the attached PDF received has the technical name rather than the description.
Does anyone know how to change this so that end users receive the PDF with the description rather than the technical name.

Yes the DOS 8.3 shortname format is the only accepted for the ThinkVantage button registry key.
One general way to obtain DOS 8.3 formats from a path except from DIR /x in a CMD window is to use execute a VBSCRIPT file that uses the FileSystemObject class
If you save the following sample vbscript code to a text file with .vbs extension and open it in file explorer it will write the short path of LSC.exe to a file text file named "Path_DOS83.txt":

I think no possibility to rename the technical name since it's such a 'key field'.
if not in production yet and no data and the 'afterward' not too much (reporting related,multiprovider), you may consider to copy the cube to the name you want, then copy update rules (this can be easy done), and copy queries.
