To choose Oracle BI EE !!

Hello !!
I want to know, why I should chouse Oracle BI EE rather than an other product.
What are its real avantages in comparison to rivals products ?
Today in the marketplace, there is many solutions about analysis and restitution tools, so how to differientiate them ?
What about the price of the installation of Oracle BI EE and what is the price of the licence ?
Thanks

The ID you are using should have data access permissions to the respective source. Can you confirm the 'weblogic' ID you are using has privileges?

  • Choosing oracle for linux ! what are merits and demerits

we are going to choose oracle for linux for our e-commerce site which will serve as search engin and shopping mall.

    Thanks cgawoods for the advice...
I followed all the steps that you mentioned... Installing the Oracle client proved to be easy as pie on the Linux server, and connecting to the Oracle instance on the NT server was instantaneous with sqlplus... tnsping also finds the Oracle server without a hitch.
I also made the modifications to the coldfusion start script you mentioned, i.e. setting ORACLE_HOME, etc (which is also mentioned in Allaire's docs).
However.... (yes, here it comes) The DSN still comes up as 'failed' when I try to add a new one using the native drivers in the Coldfusion Administrator.
Do I need to do anything on the Oracle server side (NT) first in order to get things working?
I'm pretty stumped at this point as to why this won't work.
    Thanks

If you download the Oracle 8.0.5 EE (RedHat 5.2) or Oracle8i EE(Redhat 6.0-6.2) Server programs, you may use the "Server" installation as an Oracle Client. Once you get Oracle installed, you will need to configure the tnsnames.ora file to point to your remote database. Then, you will need to point Cold Fusion to the $ORACLE_HOME where you installed the Oracle Server software. You will want (and probably need) to use the "native" oracle driver for Cold Fusion instead of the ODBC driver. Once the Oracle installation is complete, and you can "tnsping" the Oracle instance on NT, you should be able to configure Cold Fusion to talk to your Oracle database. It's just a matter of reading Allaire's documentation on configuring Cold Fusion for use with Oracle at that point.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • When to choose oracle

    Hi
I don’t know whether I can start this thread in this forum, but nevertheless I think I can get a better clarity from the experts, when I was googling to know the advantages of oracle over teradata and vice versa, I happened to see some articles, but most of them were written by peoples Who are biased with their own technology, I couldn’t get a fair idea , so it would be helpful for me if anyone could share their experience who had seen both the positives and negatives of both these database .
    My questions are.
1.when to choose oracle and when to choose teradata
2.What are the major architectural differences between oracle and teradata, that makes one better than the other

You might find this article interesting,
Teradata and Oracle Partner for Enterprise Analytics
    http://www.dashboardinsight.com/news/teradata-and-oracle-partner-for-enterprise-analytics.aspx
Well since you have read both sides of the story you can make your own judgement based on the articles. I suppose these articles from both sides will lists the pros/cons compare to their competitor and vice versa. You can gather these pros/cons and compose your own list and make smart decision.
Not knowing much about the technology of Teradata, my comments here is again biased. As the name suggested, TeraData has some strength on DataWare house territory, on most other parts I believe Oracle has an edge. Don't forget Oracle has survived fiercy competition from Sybase and Informix and dominate the market for over a decade.

  • Why I've choosed Oracle Certifications over SQL Server's : Highly Specified

Since doing my Internship on SQL Analysis/Optimization on both Oracle and SQL Server as we support both for our Products, I wanted to target a relevant certification to enforce my experience and as a consequence my CV.
I was in hesitation on choosing between an SQL Server certification or an Oracle Database Certification.
Instinctly I would have gone for SQL server for the following reasons
    1. As I'm new and totally unexperienced it feels much easier and appealling to me
    2. It is more simple and thus easier than Oracle
    3. I've Experienced it more - since the first weeks as introductive, while Oracle was and is a more misty field
But the basic reason I decided to head towards Oracle was Simple : Highly Specified Certification.
In my placemnt, I primarly analyse and optimize preset API SQL Statements. So what I learn and do, is SQL and SQL optimization techniques.
And on Oracle I can be provided certifications specifically for this. SQL Expert, PL/SQL, SQL Tuning.
On the other side, Microsoft hasn't such a thing at all, with the only Certification available being MCSA.
To get the MCSA certification I need 3 different Exams 1 Querying 2 Administering 3 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
Sector on which I dont have a clue. So a logic +"Either Everything or Nothing"+ No thank you sir I wont take.
At the best I can take just the 1.Querying BUT
    1. It combines SQL, T-SQL, Optimization in one Exam. But I dont work much with T-SQL, I would prefer an exam just on SQL or Optimization. AND
    2. Its not even considered a full Certification
While in Oracle I can (if I'll make it and find time for their bigger extend) take a Certification on SQL, and a Certification on Tunning which are the exact fields of my Placement.
And if i suceed I can extend to PL/SQL, but until then I dont have to bother for PL/SQL which I dont use much.
I dont care if I need separate payments and procedures, since I can organise Studies & Exercise one field at a time, than having to care for both PLUS a field I dont actually use much.
And then there is also the positive that you will gain certification for the Top and mos advanced DBMS. And that its not only about that Oracle Devs are less and thus maybe more easy to get hired but also that "if you learn the Difficult(Oracle), then if you have to learn the Easy (SQL Server) it would be easier possible, than the opposite"
So Oracle Certs have in my case that positive Frame
    1. Specified Certifications Mirroring Exactly your Sectors
    2. Helps self-organisation your Study-Learning Distincting each sector
    3. No1 DBMS, more promitment,
    4. As more difficult, it will be surely easier to transfer to SQL Server if there will be need afterwards , than the opposite
While SQL Server Certifications on the opposite have a negative Frame
    1. Only Full Certification is MCSA for the Entire SQL Serve Set, things I dont know
    2. Only an Exam 1.Querying is possible, which is Not A full Certification
    3. Mischiefs 3 fields to 1 SQL, Optimizing, T-SQL in one for which I dont operate all on the same level and will fragment the study organisation (no educative logic at all)
    4. SQL Server is Easier than Oracle. Being 22 yet, if need comes up it will be harder to transfer to Oracle. The opposite will be easier i think.
Well under these circumstances for my situation, to set on Oracle Path I think it was more than clearly better.
It outpasses even the needing of X4 funds for the same knowledge (SQL+Tuning+PL/SQL)

    Goodfire George wrote:
    1. As I'm new and totally unexperienced it feels much easier and appealling to me
    2. It is more simple and thus easier than OracleWhy do you say that?
It might seem easier on the surface, a point and click interface might be easier acessible for some, but both are complex product suits and neither database engine/platform has a small or "easy" feature set.
My view is sort of the opposite of yours (of course, it might be a natural view from a long experience with databases and data systems); Oracle DBAs have to be good at what they do, when on the other hand almost anyone can fool themselves thinking they are MSSS DBAs (clicking around in a "explorer" like interface, how hard can it be?). But in reality, it will takes ten's of years of learning and doing on each platform and their applications to be really great at it.
    3. I've Experienced it more - since the first weeks as introductive, while Oracle was and is a more misty fieldSeems like this is the key - you'll only really learn when you dive in and try, fail and try again... (different thresholds on learning curve/steps may vary).
On the other side, Microsoft hasn't such a thing at all, with the only Certification available being MCSA.You seem to have completely missed the Pro, Master and even Architect levels. Also, for the more "specified", there's implementor, db developer, BI developer tracks with TS and ITP exams/certifications.
For your case you may want to compare with MCITP Developer track, which has a certificate after each exam (TS, then ITP).
Remember that MS has a different certification layout. There may be 3 or even 5 steps (exams) before you'll get certified on some level, where as you might need 1 or 2 exams completed to get a Oracle Database cert.
To get the MCSA certification I need 3 different Exams 1 Querying 2 Administering 3 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012See previous points :)
At the best I can take just the 1.Querying BUT
    1. It combines SQL, T-SQL, Optimization in one Exam. But I dont work much with T-SQL, I would prefer an exam just on SQL or Optimization. AND
    2. Its not even considered a full Certification Again, look at and compare with Querying/Development and Designing Database Solutions.
Depending on your outset and "point of view" on things, on the road ahead you could choose to not be blind to "the other side" (whichever one) but learn to discern and apply, reinforcing knowledge from whatever aspect you'll learn and see and know. Be open and open to re-learning stuff. If you don't take things too literally, sql and performance and scalability matters exists on both platforms. You might be able to learn e.g troubleshooting and optimization, not O* troubleshooting and optimization. Also this is a wast area, about performance, becuase you'll need to know systems, how systems fit toghether and maybe more importantly how the users use the system, how they think they use the system, getting to know them and how to hear and control their expectations (yes, you'll be amazed in ten or twenty yers from now how much "psychology" this really is about).
The (hopefully long) road towards/before exams and certification is what you should put your mind and effort to. As with most other aspects of life; there are no quick fixes - that is just how we "ignore" things we not really want to invest in.
    >
While in Oracle I can (if I'll make it and find time for their bigger extend) take a Certification on SQL, and a Certification on Tunning which are the exact fields of my Placement.Yes, and for you and your outset that might be a good place to start. But consider actually learning SQL and learning tuning (which will take years) not just "take a certification".
And if i suceed I can extend to PL/SQL, but until then I dont have to bother for PL/SQL which I dont use much. This might be a sign of "narrow tracking" too early. Learning a little PL/SQL or whatever skills will help in ways you do not yet know. Read what EdStevens has written on the forums on the topic of studying (learning systems from having a major within music).
It outpasses even the needing of X4 funds for the same knowledge (SQL+Tuning+PL/SQL)Knowledge does not come from taking exams (if you don't mean the "I know how to do multiple choice tests"-kind of knowledge).
Perhaps it is better in the long run if you study and experience and do the things you like to do, and let the certificates come later on when the time is right.

  • Choosing Oracle DB Version

I have never worked with Oracle DB, but there is a need for it now. It will be used to store incoming data from external source and will be loaded using SQL*Loader.
I was just wondering what is the best version for this (I am looking into 9i Rel 1 (9.0.1) and 9i Rel 2 (9.2.0.1) primarely)?
Also is there a way that an SQL*Loader can be triggered to load every time new data comes in (in text format)?
    Thanks

you have to install your existing db download, get a patch from OTN (thro metalink) and then install the patch - there are specific patch install instructions. Pl include your company oracle contact informed about your project to help you better

  • Are there specific reasons for choosing Oracle A/S 10g OVER IBM Websphere ?

Our company runs a number of Oracle applications and currently supports both the IBM Websphere and Oracle
10g A/S application servers. We use Oracle A/S to run Oracle Forms/Reports, as
well as to interface from Oracle Advanced Queues (A/Q) to the outside world
(with JMS over A/Q). The idea being floated is to use Oracle A/S only for our
Forms/Reports server and IBM Websphere for everything else. Is there any
    downside to this ?
Is there anything Oracle A/S can do that IBM Websphere cannot ?
Would any features of Oracle A/Q not be accessible when using WebSphere ?
We are also planning to use Oracle Workflow. Would there be any advantages to using Oracle A/S over Websphere ?

'Fraid I'm not experienced in running Oracle products with Websphere but I'd have thought that the most obvious reason to use OAS would be that (theoretically at least!) AQ and Oracle Workflow should be better integrated into OAS and also recieve better support from Oracle if you are using OAS as your apps server rather than another vendor's product. The risk is that you might get into a situation where something doesn't work and Oracle say it's Websphere, phone IBM and IBM say it's AQ - phone Oracle.

  • Using Oracle 8i DB in SOA suite 11g

    Hi All,
Good Morning.. Hope all are doing good.
I need a permanent solution or some work around for my below issue:
We were on SOA suite 10.1.3.4 and now we are migrating to SOA suite 11.1.1.5
We have legacy system which has Oracle 8i DB.
For some of our interfaces we are using this 8i DB for intergration.
But 11g SOA suite doenst support Oracle 8i DB.
But is there any option or any sort of work around so that we can use this?
Any option, suggestion, work around are most welcome.
Hope I will have some options to try with, and resolve this issue.
Thanks all for your valuable time spent on my issue.
    Cheers,
    Chandru

    Hi Chandru
    1. Yes, what you want is very much possible. I would like to clarify few things hopefully if you are not already aware of this.
    2. Earlier SOA 10g is on top of Oracle's OAS/OC4J. Now SOA 11.5 is on top of the Weblogic Server app server which is from BEA. When you create SOA 11.5 (or any soa 11.x domain), to store all meta-data you need atleast 2 minimum schemas in some Oracle Database like SOA_INFRA, MDS. These schemas are created using a giant utilty sql script(s) called RCU (Repository Creation Utility). Now this RCU can work only with Oracle 10g and 11g databases and NOT oracle 8i DB. But remember this is only to store all the Process/Task information in Meta-Data tables which you hardly change or modify.
    3. So go ahead and upgrade to SOA 11.5 and use latest Oracle 11g or 10g database for RCU. Now comes your old legacy usecase, which needs some data from Oracle 8i db. This means it is a custom application or custom usecase that connects to Oracle 8i. From Weblogic Admin Console, you can create something called Data Source (having a connection pool) and give DB Host, port, sid, username/password of your 8i db. And choose Oracle 10 g thin drivers. If I am not wrong, Oracle 10g drivers should support oracle 8i db also. Using this DataSource JNDI name, you can do pretty much everything either from Java Code, EBJ code or from the Workflow application.
    4. As other users mentiones, you can always use DB Adapter to connect to this 8i DB. Worst case, I am not a DB Expert. But in Oracle 11g or 10 g database, I wonder if you can create like a DB Link to connect to your old 8i Database. DB experts can help here.
    5. Finally if none of the above solutions work, you can always write a simple JAVA/EJB code to connect to your database in very primitive way directly giving db host, port, sid, username, plain text password and if required add 8i DB oc4j jar in classpath. Then use java embedded or ejb adapter to pull this data into your bpel process. Hopefully you may not end up here.
In conclusion, yes it should be possible to access your data from 8i database but SOA Domain should point to ORacle 10g/11g DB only though for its meta-data etc.
Here is a post for similar case but for OBIEE 11g that wants to create Reports from 8i DB:
Re: Regarding OBIEE compatibility with Oracle Database version 8i

  • Standalone webcache or Web cache from Oracle Apps Server 10.1.2.0.2?

    Hi
I am installing web cache on two servers in web tier and J2EE server (with OHS) on another two servers in apps tier. Should I use standalone webcache or install from Oracle Apps Server package? If I choose Oracle Apps Server package, I have to disable Home, HTTP components. But it is DCM managed. Any suggestions?
And should I deploy my OHS servers on web cache servers in the web tier? In future we want to expand J2EE installation, we will deploy Portal with SSO, OID etc.

    Shen Jie,
Please review the Enterprise Deployment to see what are the best architectures.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can HFM & FDQM  run on Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 based on a 64bit server?

To enhance performances of HFM and FDQM, my customer would like to upgrade the Oracle DB server (10.2.0.2) that runs on Windows Server 2003, from 32Bit to 64Bit, that supports larger number of connections.
The HFM and FDQM are installed on Windows Server 2003 32Bit and will not move to the new 64Bit server so only the Oracle DB will be installed on the new 64Bit server.
Is it possible? Is there any document that explain it?
    Thank you,
    Yoram.

    Hi,
I am facing another related problem. I have installed HFM 9.3.1.1 along with Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 in Windows server 2003 SP2. When I try to create udl by choosing Oracle Provider for OLE DB, the test connection succeed. but giving unknown error at the time of Application server configuration indicating to apply working udl file.
When I check the HFM installation guide, it tells to download and install the 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB' file from Oracle.com (as per page 21 of the installation doc). But the problem is that the 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB' file is not available for the aforesaid Oracle 10g version.
Can anybody guide me in the aforesaid problem? Please sent the link from where I can get the file for installation purposes.
Your help would be of great help.
    Thanks & Regards...

  • SAP fresh installation with Oracle 11.2

    Dear all,
Do you know if it's already possible to install a new SAP system with Oracle 11.2.
I'm trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 ehp1 with Oracle 11.2.
The problem is that SAPINST does not give me the possibility to choose oracle version 11.2. Only 10.2 is possible. (I patched SAPINST to the last version)
If I select 10.2 SAPINST gives an error "The DB Home folder I:\oracle\PSM\112 has not the correct DB Server version 102. Select a different DB Home folder or install the correct database server software."
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
    Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on RedHat 9.0

Is there anyone who install Oracle 8.1.7 database on RedHat 9.0 ?
Help me step by step guidline..

    Hi
I do this on a redhat 9.0. it working perfectly
all i can say that's you must read this. good luck
    Next Previous Contents
    2. Starting off
    2.1 Prerequisites
a 400M swap disk (on my install)
At least 800M free on your hard disk. Type:
    bash$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hda2 5.3G 3.6G 1.4G 72% /
    and read the field Avail.
    Hardware
The steps we are going to describe allow to have Oracle 8i, version 8.1.7 running on:
    a laptop Toshiba Satellite 2800-100 with 128Mb RAM and a 600 Mhz Intel Celeron;
    others ....
In any case, never underestimate Oracle's system prerequisites.
    2.2 Linux setup
    Distribution
We focus on a Linux RedHat 7.2 distribution, since we had problems with it and we wanted to use it. The steps we are going to describe should work on any Red Hat 7.2 based Linux distribution.
    Distribution Setup
We assume you have your Linux RedHat 7.2 box installed and working in a reasonable way for you. In any case, 'base' packages, X Windows (the installation routine is a Java GUI) and the development tools regardless of whether you intend doing any coding or not is what you need.
    Setting users and groups
    Login as root:
    $ su - root
and type whatever password you decided root must have.
    Create groups:
    bash# groupadd oinstall
    bash# groupadd dba
    bash# groupadd oper
Create oracle user and set its password:
    bash# useradd oracle -g oinstall -G dba,oper
bash# passwd oracle (to change password)
Installing the right Java Virtual Machine
The only Java Virtual Machine compatible with Oracle 8i, version 8.1.7, is: ftp://sunsite.dk/mirrors/java-linux/JDK-1.1.8/i386/v3/jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2.
Do not think: "newer versions will be less buggy", as the installer probably won't work. And don't think.
    Once downloaded it, move it:
    bash# mv jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2 /usr/local
    untar it:
    bash# tar xvIf jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
and create a symbolic link to the folder the command here above has just created:
    bash# ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    Kernel parameters
Oracle documentation suggests that you make changes to the Linux kernel so you can get more shared memory. If you decide to follow that way, keep the instructions in the Oracle documentation and the Linux Kernel HOWTO at hand to build your new kernel.
In fact, the required changes can be made by setting some parameter in a suitable initialization file. Just follow some steps:
    bash# cd /etc
and create a new file rc.config, if it does not exists. Inside rc.config copy the following four lines:
    cd /proc/sys/kernel
    echo 250 32000 100 128 > sem
    echo 4294967295 > shmmax
    echo 4096 > shmmni
Edit the file /etc/rc and add the line:
    /etc/rc.config
In any case, if you want just to start playing with Oracle 8i, version 8.1.7, Linux RedHat 7.2 default settings can work fine, and you do not need to set any kernel parameter, as just described.
    Setting up some libraries
There may be some compatibility problems between Oracle 8i and gcc versions >= 2.1. If you experience them, download these rpms:
    compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
    compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
    compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
    install them, as usual, by:
    $ rpm -Uvh compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
and, finally set a symbolic link because there is a small installation bug in one of the packages just installed:
    bash# ln -s /bin/id /usr/bin/id
    Final step
Reboot your machine and keep reading...

    3. Installing Oracle 8i, version 8.1.7
    3.1 Setting up oracle's shell
Login as oracle user, edit the file .bash_profile and copy the following lines into it:
    # | FILE : .bash_profile |
    umask 022
    EDITOR=vi; export EDITOR
    TERM=xterm; export TERM
    TMPDIR=/tmp; export TMPDIR
    # | SETUP ORACLE ENVIRONMENT |
    export ORACLE_SID=O817DB
    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib
    export TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
    export ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    export ORACLE_OWNER=oracle
    export ORACLE_TERM=xterm
    # | LINUX STUFF |
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    source /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    # | SETUP SEARCH PATH |
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/opt/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/java/bin:.
    export PATH
    # | SETUP JAVA ENVIRONMENT |
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/java
    export CLASSPATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/jdbc/lib/classes12.zip:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/JRE:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/jlib:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/jlib:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/network/jlib:.
    # | "GREETINGS" |
    echo ".bash_profile executed"
Save the new version of .bash_profile and re-read it, by issuing:
    bash$ source .bash_profile
Finally, if you have not any window manager running, it is time to let it running.
    3.2 Starting the installer
We shall work under the hypothesis that you want to install cdrom Oracle distribution. Mount the cdrom with:
    bash$ mount /mnt/cdrom
and move to the directory that contains the installer:
    bash$ cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    Then, launch the installer by:
    bash$ ./runInstaller
and follow the steps on the GUI it should appear:
after a first click on NEXT verify that the proposed path is:
    /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7
    and click NEXT again;
fill in the filed Unix Group Name with the value:
    oinstall
If, for any reasons, this is not your first attempt to install Oracle, you will not be prompted for the Unix Group Name. In this case jump to step 4, below.
A pop-up window will ask you to run a script as root user, so, open a terminal emulator and type in:
    bash$ su
    bash# cd $ORACLE_HOME
    bash# ./orainstRoot.sh
When you're done click Retry on the pop-up window.
You are now given the option of what to install. Choose Oracle Enterprise Edition, and click Next.
It should now allow you to choose what you install with much finer granularity. Unless you're particularly constrained by disk space or know exactly what you need, choose Typical and click Next.
When it asks you the Global database name, if you do not have any particular needs you can type in oracle.localdomain. Also, verify that the values of SID is set to:
    O817DB
    Then, click Next.
The next step is to set the location of the database. Type in:
    /u01
    and click Next.
Finally, you are asked to indicate the location where you put java. If you followed our suggestions the path is already:
    /usr/local/java
Since it is fine, click Next, and, then Install.
The installation completes by a pop-up windows that asks you to run a script as root. If you closed the previously opened terminal open one again and type:
    bash$ su
    bash# cd $ORACLE_HOME
    bash# ./root.sh
After the script completes, click OK on the pop-up window.
Oracle Net8 Configuration starts. Choose Perform typical configuration and click Next.
The configuration tool that starts is the Database Configuration Assistant.
    It may signal errors like:
    ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
The temporary solution is to just click on Abort. These kinds of errors will be recovered in a few!!
When the Database Configuration Assistant concludes its tasks, just click on Next and the installation concludes.
If you needed to click on Abort, you must:
    Download the patch: glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    move it into ORACLE_HOME by:
    bash$ mv ./glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz $ORACLE_HOME
and let ORACLE_HOME your working directory:
    bash$ cd $ORACLE_HOME
    uncompress and untar the patch:
    bash$ gunzip glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    bash$ tar xvf glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar
    run the patch script:
    bash$ ./setup_stubs.sh
When it stops you are done!
    4. Creating a database
    We just typed:
    bash$ dbassist
and we played around with the default options. This allowed us to generate an instance of Oracle 8i we could use for teaching purposes, during an undergraduate course on the foundational principles of data bases. If you need more professional-oriented instances, consult other HOWTOs or read Oracle documentation.
In any case, at this point, what you should be able to do is to let interactive Oracle sql interpreter SQL*Plus run, by issuing:
    bash$ sqlplus
and by choosing one of the following two default account/passwd pairs that Oracle creates by default. The first pair is:
    user-name:sys
    password:change_on_install
    while the second is:
    user-name:system
    password:manager
However, if you, just for example, want to connect from/to another machine we address you to other HOWTOs; for example, Stephen Darlington's "Oracle for Linux Installation HOWTO" covers this subjects and gives other useful hints in its final sections.

  • How to Install Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) on Windows Server 2003?

I recently installed "32-bit Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio" on my computer (Windows 7, 64bit). Everything seems fine and I can develop and run my application in Visual Studio 2010 and IIS 7.
Now, when I deploy my application to the Server, it raises error:
Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleCommand' threw an exception. ---> Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
Obviously I need to install ODAC on the server, too. My server is:
    - Windows 2003 32 bit R2 (I know, I know!)
    - IIS 6
So. I downloaded the same installation from Oracle website (ODAC 11.2 Release 5 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio [11.2.0.3.20]) and installed it on the server. But still getting the same error.
PS: When I was installing, I chose Oracle Data Access Component for Oracle Client 11.2.0.3.20 in Oracle Universal Installer. hmmmm. Should I choose "Oracle Server" instead? Screenshot

ODP.NET, Unmanaged Driver uses unmanaged dependencies in the Oracle Client. The error you see means you have another Oracle Client installed on the Win2003 machine and ODP.NET is attempting to load the incorrect Oracle Client version, rather than the version you installed ODP.NET with.
What you need to do is direct ODP.NET where to find the correct version of its unamanaged Oracle Client dependencies. This will be generally the bin directory of your Oracle Client home that was installed with ODP.NET.
You can learn more about DllPath here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20434_01/doc/win.112/e23174/InstallODP.htm#sthref94
If you're not familiar with how to set ODP.NET settings in the Registry or .NET config files, you can read how to do that here:

  • Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) installation error

Hi everyone !!! I know that Oracle doesn't support FreeBSD but I'm my problem is probably stopping a decision of choosing Oracle as a project database. This means licenses guys!!!!! Can you please just guide me for a solution to my problem?
I need to test Oracle 10g in FreeBSD. I've installed FreeBSD 7 from the ISOs in Freebsd homepage with full base system and full packages. I've then activated the linux_base-fc4 linux emulation port and compile a new kernel version for Oracle with:
    options COMPAT_LINUX
    options SEMMAP=128
    options SEMMNI=128
    options SEMMNS=32000
    options SEMOPM=100
    options SEMMSL=250

I've then created an Oracle account with the /compat/linux/bin/bash sheel for linux compatability. I unzip the 10201_..... oracle zip for linux and run the installer from within oracle account.
I've manage to solve a lot of problems but with this one I'm stucked!!! At 62% I receive a message box saying "Error invoking target 'relink' of makefile ins_precomp.mk". I go to the make.log and I see:

I can't find out what is missing. Can you give me an idea?

Hi everyone !!! I know that Oracle doesn't support FreeBSD but I'm my problem is probably stopping a decision of choosing Oracle as a project database. This means licenses guys!!!!! Can you please just guide me for a solution to my problem?
Since you are calling the 'Licenses guys' I assume you have a valid Oracle License for your project. Don't expect Oracle support services to monitor this forum, everyone here are regular oracle users and we are not in any way related with Oracle Support.
If you have a valid Oracle CSI you should raise a SR in Metalink. And since you already know FreeBSD is not a supported platform, then there are no surprises, you know where the problem is. It may work after some workarounds, but you are on your own and dessuported. The only free linux supported by Oracle is OEL, and if you are planning to use Oracle it means you should change the OS.

  • Use dg4msql in Oracle 11.1.0.6.0

    Hi all,
i would like to use dg4msql in my 1.1.0.6.0 installation. Searching on the metalink site I found a document related.
In this document is said that you have to aplly the patch number 5965763. It said also "Applies to:Oracle Database Gateway for SQL Server - Version: 11.1.0.6 to 12.0.0.0".
But when I try to apply this patch prerequisite check fails because I have a rdbms 11.1.0.6.0 and a lower version is required.
I have search some information about this but found nothing.
In the same machine we have another 10.2.0 oracle installation, can this affect?? Any ideas??
    Thank you in advance,
    Alex

The patch you are refering to does NOT contain any gateway. It is a database patch to make older database releases compatible with the V11 gateways.
The V11 gateway can be downloaded from edelivery: http://edelivery.oracle.com. You have to enter the contact details, confirm export and license restrictions and then you have to choose Oracle Database as product and select the correct platform. You'll get a list of available products for download. Choose 11g CD pack and look for "gateway". Download this CD and install the gateway from this dediacted gateway CD.
