To connect digidesign 003 and macbookpro (firewire400-Thunderbolt or USB3.0?) is possible?

Hi guys,
sorry for my english...
i will buy a new MacBook Pro (Sept 2013) but i'm not sure that work with my old digidesign 003 audio interface.
My version Pro Tools LE 8.0 only work, as you know, with a digidesign interface connected using firewire 400 standard...
Someone can tell me how i can connect my 003 firewire if i buy a new macbookpro?
Thanks a lot
AT

Ok, thanks.
My 1 cable to ThunderBolt Display objective
MacBook Air -> (via 1 x Thunderbolt cable) -> Thunderbolt Display -> (via 1 x USB cable) -> USB 2.0 external hard drive
I would like to know if this configuration is possible and Time Machine will run correctly.
Your 2 cable suggestion (I think)
MacBook Air -> (via 1 x Thunderbolt cable + 1 x USB cable) -> Thunderbolt Display + USB 2.0 external hard drive
This configuration requires 2 cables to disconnect/reconnect from my MacBook Air.

  • Is it possible to connect a mac book pro via thunderbolt and a dvi switchbox (multiple computers) to a thunderbolt display?

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy a thunderbolt display.Since I have not only apple computers with a thunderbolt port I wonder if it's possible to connect my mac book pro via thunderbolt and a DVI switchbox via a "mini displayport to DVI connector" to the thunderbolt display at the same time. Thunderbolt is a bus architecture. Thus there must be an ingoing and an outgoing port on the display. The rearview of the display I've seen so far don't show this:
If this is not possible then I must question the market chances of this product. Seems as if the product marketing guys exaggerated the launch of the thunderbolt technology.

How to connect windows laptop (vga) to thunderbolt display?
AHHH??!!!!!!  Was that your original question??   I assumed you were trying to output FROM your computer (MacBook Pro w/ Thunderbolt) to the new display and then OUT to be the video source to a DVI switcher.
    MB Pro w/TB ---> TB Display ---> mDP-to-DVI adapter ---> DVI switcher
So it seems as if it's not possible to use the thunderbolt display with the mini display port adapter to DVI you've mentioned.
I did not understand that you were trying to use other PC's into a switcher and then THAT Video source to connect INTO the TB display.   If THAT is what you're trying to do, then NO....  You can NOT use the new TB Display to be used to display "FROM" a DVI switcher (and also can NOT be used to display from other Non-TB-Apple computers).
I've also called apple. The statement was that one needs a computer with osx 10.6.x in order to connect the thunderbolt display. That makes it impossible to hook a windows pc or older mac to the new and shiny thunderbolt display.
I wonder why apple doesn't state this in their technical descriptions...?
    -ais-swiss
Actually, the state that information all over the Tech Specs on the Apple Store website.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC914LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Here are two different statements from that webpage:
So yes.... other NON-Apple PC's (or non-TB devices) do Not have the Thunderbolt technology (hardware/software) to be able to communicate with the TB display or other TB devices.

  • Can I connect both PC and MacBook Pro to Thunderbolt display?

    Hello,
I've new MacBook Pro 15" 2011 model (with Thunderbolt port) along with a PC (with DVI output.) I would like to get new Thunderbolt display. Can I connect both PC and Mac at the same time to Thunderbolt display? i.e., I don't want to disconnect wires at all the time and I also I'm going to use Thunderbolt cable when connecting Mac to display.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your MBPro (w/TB) should have no problems connecting to the newer TB display!!!
You can NOT connect the PC to the TB display.   The Apple website mentions that the display can connect to any "Thunderbolt Enabled" Mac.

Yes, I too had this problem.
I was issued an update from Apple for a new version software as well as a new version of Lightrooom and now it shows up on the desktop and in finder as it should.

  • Anyone connected ProTools Digi Rack to new Thunderbolt Imac?

Anyone connecting ProTools Digi Rack to new Thunderbolt iMac or MacBook Pro?
For users of ProTools with a Digi Rack 001, 002 or 003 - we use the Firewire 400 port on the back of an imac to connect in to the 400 port of the Digi Rack (the Digi Rack has it's own AC power, so there is no need for power to run through the Firewire cable).
The brand new iMac has no firewire port, not even an 800 port. It only has 4 USB and 2 Thunderbolt ports.
What are Digi users best options for connections?
    1. Connect the iMac, via a Thunderbolt to 800 Firewire adapter, and then connect that to a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter, and then run a 400 cable to the Digi Rack? Is that a potential problem since there will be so many adapters hanging off the back of the imac? Any problem that it will not conduct as well, or slow data, or they might get loose?
    -or-
    2. Connect the iMac, via a Thunderbolt to 800 Firewire adapter to an External Hard Drive with extra ports on it such as a LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk, which has a Firewire 800 port to plug into, and a Firewire 400 port to plug out from, and from there a 400 cable to the Digi Rack? Will that slow down data from having it run through the LaCie Drive, versus running it directly into the back of the iMac?

There is nothing wrong with Apple's refurbished machines, you're assuming they are returned with problems. These machines come with the same 1 year warranty as a new machines and are also eligible for AppleCare the same as a new machine. These machine are tested more than a new machine and if any issues are found they are fixed and re-tested. Apple puts machine into the refurb program for many many reasons, these can be new models were introduced and they're clearing old inventory, or scenarios like a husband bought new machine and the wife made him return it for spending money, or a possible defect. Don't take my word for it though search and you'll see Apple's refurbished machines have a terrific reputation.
However I'm getting from reading your posts you are looking for reasons to not get a Mac and stay with Windows. If that's the case they by all means stay with what you know.

  • How do i switch my digidesign 003 factory from pro toold to logic mode

hello everyone this has been eating me up all moring.
i have just started working with this 003 and its works fine with the pro tools le that came with it but when i try and use logic pro 8 with it it just does not want to know. i get audio coming out the speakers but i cant use the faders or any of the other functions of the desk.
i have a m-audio projectmix at home and i know with this when you turn it on you have to hold down different keys to change to diffrent programs. is this the case here? and does anyone know what i need to press?
    thanks
    sean o'hare

It seems as though you do not know Digidesign very well. If you want it to work with Logic, yes, you can use it more or less to control the faders through MIDI, but that is usually unreliable and is a pain to set up.
Digi's HUI protocol is proprietary. It will not work with Logic. It will not work with Cubase/Nuendo. . . nor will it work with Digital Performer. Nor Live. Nor Sonar.
The project mix 8 is different. It is not a Digidesign piece of hardware (although I know someone on here is going to yell about how Digi and M-Audio are the same or something. . . but they're not)
and it is made to work with multiple platforms.
Unfortunately that's just the way it is.

  • I have connected the adapter and cable from imac to GVA HD tv but nothing seems to be happening.

I have connected the adapter and cable from imac to GVA HD tv but nothing seems to be happening. Any suggestions?

Was that message showing a s dialog when selecting the tv connection as a sound output device?  I ask because I don't know the exact context of that message and never heard of it before.
It may be helpful to take a screen shot of both that message and also the list of the sound output devices while the tv is connected.
You never specified your model (year) of your imac so I don't know its limitations.  Maybe some version doesn't support sound through the mini-displayport (hard to believe any model wouldn't with mini-displayport).  But if that is the case you may have to resort to analog stereo from you stereo line out output jack to your tv.
One final thing.  The mini-displayport adapter you have may not support audio.  That was a possibility a few years ago.  That is why most places that sells these things also explicity specify whether the adapter supports audio.  For example, monoprice's adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
or even the Moshi adapter sold through the apple store.
Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support
Note both these adapters explictily say they have audio support.

  • HT5299 can i connect my sony smart TV via thunderbolt port for better resolution.

can i connect my sony smart TV via thunderbolt port for better resolution.

You can connect the TV via the Thunderbolt port. However if the result is "better resolution" would depend on what resolution you have now (I'm guessing you mean with the HDMI adapter?)
I'm myself connecting the Mini Mac with a Thunderbolt->VGA adapter to my TV and get full 1920x1080 resolution.
Have you checked your Display settings? Make sure mirroring is off, then check what resolutions you can get on the current connection.
Please return with some more data.

  • Can I Connect My Firewire 400 Peripherals To Thunderbolt?

I hav several external Hard Drives and a digital camera with firewire 400 connections.  Is there an adapter cable or some other method to get me from there to the thunderbolt?

Yes. You need to adapt them to FireWire 800, also known as 9-pin, and then to Thunderbolt.

  • Itunes compatability with digidesign 003 audio interface

I have a Macbook Pro and Itunes my itunes previously would work with my digidesign 003 interface and one day it just would not be recognized, when I go to sound preferences in the mac i dont see the interface anymore now i also have a digidesign Mbox mini that always shows up and works perfectly, can anyone help me with this problem......Thanks

Yes the 003 works fine with Logic using the Core Audio driver available from the digidesign website (or that comes with the 003 when you buy it). The macbook pro will work just fine with that interface. I use mine with a Macbook Pro 2.16GHZ aluminium and a Mac Pro 8 core.
And works fine with OSX 10.5.6.
