To Do's Greyed out in mail?

When I first installed leopard the to do's worked just fine. I haven't used them for awhile and just today opened a few messages that I wanted to create a to do from and the to do button is greyed out. I haven't changed anything and have tried to close out mail and restart but nothing is working, any help?

when you select and open an email, you need to select text within the email to be able to create a to do.
hope this helps

  • Contact list greyed out in mail

Since the Yosemite update, my contact list is greyed out in mail. I can't select any contacts to add to the "to" "CC" or "BCC" fields. I went to my privacy settings to see if mail had permission to access my contacts, but mail isn't even on the list of apps requesting permission. HELP?

Same problem in iMac version. For now, I've laboriously added the names one by one to a new message then saved it as a draft. Now at least I can load the draft, copy the address field then paste it into my real message. At three separated clicks per address, building a 65 member list is crap, Apple!

  • .Mac Outgoing Server Greyed Out in Mail

I'm trying to use my original .mac account and all the information goes through fine when using the Mail wizard but when .mac appears in the mail preferences, the Incoming Mail Server is greyed out and hasn't carried over the information I originally put in. It also won't let me enter anything into the field.
The account type I've set up is MobileMe IMAP
    Can anyone help, please?

Setting up a MobileMe IMAP should not longer work, as the settings will be wrong.
Go to icloud.com and sign in with your apple id (guess that'll be your @mac address?).  Verify you see your mail correctly there.  If you do, remove your @mac email from mail menu >> preferences >> accounts.  Then, go to system preferences >> icloud, sign in with your apple id and put a check beside 'mail'.  Your mail will be automatically setup for you in the mail.app.  If you want to send from your @mac address, click the pull down menu beside the "from" field while composing an email and select that address.
You can also set default address to send from in mail menu >> preferences >> composing.
iCloud mail settings are not supposed to be edited manually unless you're setting up it up on a system prior to Lion.

  • Incoming mail server has changed, but greyed out in Mail, can't be corrected

The incoming mail server for my website's email account has changed, but the incoming server box is greyed out and doesn't allow me to change it to the correct one.  I do not want to delete the account and start again because all mail and contacts associated with the account will be lost.  So far all the suggestions regarding greyed out incoming server boxes have to do with iCloud but while i use iCloud, I don't use it for mail or have an @iCloud email address.  They also involve starting from scratch with Mail, which would be a huge problem for me trying to save all my emails and reconstruct my mailboxes.
What gives with this issue? a lot of people seemed to have it, though I saw no responses later than 2012.  Unlike other people, I can still get my mail, but the server certificate always comes up invalid.  I can tell Mail to trust it, but This greyed out thing is certainly a bug or unintended consequence.  I want to be able to change that field.

Sorry, Guess I solved my own problem anyway.  Perhaps this will help others.  I unchecked "automatically detects and maintain account settings", closed and saved the mail preferences window ( I had also updated my outgoing server info which was not greyed out )  I closed Mail and when I reopened it, the incoming server was no longer greyed out and I could change it which I did.  I may recheck the auto detect box once I have ensured that the port settings are all correct.

  • Why is the 'send' icon greyed out in mail? I cant send any mail.

Recently bought bought a Macbook pro so i'm new to this! My mail has been working fine both sending and receiving but recently the send icon is greyed out and I cant send anything! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I tried it but it didn't work. After some playing around I found that the outgoing mail preferences had altered. Not sure why the setting changed but never the less its working again. Thanks again

  • How to fix Hide Mail option greyed out in Mail menu?

I can no longer hide Mail in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 by using the Command-H keyboard cammand or by selecting "Hide Mail" in the Mail menu since the option is greyed out. Not a problem in any other program. Is this perhaps a corrupt preference file?

Are you using Full Screen. If so, the option isn't available as you can just switch desktops to "hide" whatever is in Full Screen.

  • Use this mailbox for greyed out in Mail 7

Since upgrading to Mavericks (and Mail 7) I can no longer assign the sent messages folder in Mail.  My IMAP provider uses a "sent items" folder under the inbox which I had previously used Mailbox->Use This Mailbox For->Sent to get it synced correctly across all my devices.  Unfotunately all options under Use This Mailbox For are greyed out since upgrading to Mavericks.  This is the same for all my IMAP email accounts.  I am able to change the settings on my iOS devices but no joy on my mac.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'm not sure but I think I deleted the account from the Internet Accounts preference pane instead of from Mail's preferences. Could that make a difference?
Anyway for me the behaviour isn't consistent at all. In three IMAP accounts one does't have the problem at all, one shows the "Use This Mailbox For" options "Sent" and "Junk" selectable and the other two greyed out, and for one account only "Junk" is selectable.
    Strange.
The two accounts that have the problem are from the German provider Strato. Though I don't think it is a provider issue.

  • Gmail account greyed out in mail

I have a problem with my gmail account on my iPhone 5s, I've already had it with the iPhone 5 after installing iOS7 and recreating the mail accounts.
I have two Gmail accounts in my mail app. The first account works perfectly. The second account is configured like the first one BUT after receiving mails the account (the whole account) is greyed out for about 10 to 15 minutes. The Gmail app itself works fine, it's just the problem with the iOS mail app.
Does anybody know why this happens?

Hi, I do have the same pb : entering the inbox of a specific account which greys out after first reading.
I have no solution but There is a way around it : If you close the mail app and restart it, you can access back to the inbox and read your mail. But after checking another account it greys back again.
I use gmail. I am wondering if an app I donwloaded and gave access to my gmail account did not mess up the gmail account itself. I checked in gmail and took off the authorization of this app. + deleted the app from Iphone. No change.
Also if I add the mail account on antoher iphone or ipad the same problems comes back.
I have more than 10 accounts on the iphone and only this one creates pb.

  • "Send" Greyed Out in Mail 3.6 and Entourage 12

The Mail 3.6 application on two different computers refuses to send anything out--when you hit Reply, the message bow has the Send button greyed out. If you save the message, choose it in Drafts and then choose Send Again from the Message menu, it open the message box--with a greyed out Send button. If you look in the Sent folder, the message is not there. The same problem is now occuring with Entourage 12. I am running OS X 10.5.8 on an iBook G4 and a Power Mac G4, both fully updated, with Permissions repaired etc. I tried reinstalling Mail 3.6 with Pacifist and the same problem occurred immediately. I find Mail to be a terrible program in general but this seemsw to be the fault of something larger.

  • Mail preference greyed out

When I click mail icon to open mail only the top task bar appears.  The actual mail window doesn't open.  When I click on Mail in the task bar the preference option is greyed out.   Mail had been crashing lately. Now it doesn't open at all. I restarted my computer but that didn't fix it.  I went into accounts and all of my e-mail addresses are still there but it can't verify the account when it asks for the passwords.  How can I fix this?
    Thanks

Please take these steps to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Restart the computer. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. Any custom stationery that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to preserve that data. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
    Step 2
If Step 1 doesn't solve the problem, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Cannot move junk email to Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo, greyed out

I've searched but so far no luck.  Ever since I added my two Yahoo email accounts on my iPhone 4, I cannot seem to send junk email from my inbox to my Bulk Mail folder, it is greyed out.  First off, I've confirmed that the Bulk Mail folder on my iPhone is the same as my Spam folder in Yahoo mail on the desktop.  I can see the same emails in both folders.  Anyone have the same experience and found a way to correct this, or is this just a Yahoo limitation?

I am having the same problem, but I'm not very clear on how to follow the steps.
    went to my yahoo account in IOS;
    hit edit, hit "new mailbox" at the bottom right corner of the screen;
    entered a name;
    below that, it has "Mailbox Location", I opened it;
it list all my personal folders, I am stuck here.
How do I "point the mailbox location to the Bulk Mail folder", as instructed? Am I missing a step?
This is for iPhone 4S, with the latest released version. Thank you!

  • IPhone Mail app send button greyed out

I have a new iPhone 6 plus with a single IMAP mail account. I can receive mail and reply to mail that's been sent to me but when I start a new mail item the send button is greyed out.
My mail server settings are correct and I've tried reentering the SMTP details, resetting the network settings and restarting the phone. I've tried sending to different addresses and always include a subject and text in the body but the send option never becomes available.

Open Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account information. In the box for the Outgoing Server, I suspect None is selected? Make a selection of the correct SMTP, and that should resolve.

  • After 10.9.4 Update: Mail Messages Grey Out Upon Deleting-Don't Move to Trash?

    Hello,
After 10.9.4 Update/MacBook Pro with Retina display: Mail Messages Grey Out Upon Deleting-Don't Move to Trash? I believe I must join those who are having trouble with mail after this latest update. Deleted messages just turn a light grey in the message panel and don't move to trash until after I quit and restart mail. I have also experienced the screen "Freezing" ... no spinning beach ball, just the pointer frozen. This has happened only when I use mail and requires a "hard" re-start to correct.  Is this a "feature" of the update, or is it a problem? Thanks!

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
Quit Mail and empty the Trash. If you still can't, log out or restart the computer.
