To even use garage band?

A few quick questions.
I dont use garage band yet and I plan on buying an apple in a few days.
1) Can I plug my instrument (guitar/bass) into an interface like the Fast Track Pro and use Garage Band?
2) Do I have to use an amp for this, or can I just plug in directly?
3) Can you change the effects of the guitar using Garage Band? Such as change from clean to distortion?
Thanks a lot

You'll love it - I don't even use an interface (had a fastrack and an AUDIO BUDDY pre-amp) but didn't even need em' - I get a hot signal going straight in with a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter (Radio Shack - $5) - my LP has stock HB's - my Imac has some sort of pre-amp in it cause my signal sounds great with GB, Amplitube, Guitar Rig, etc.
Garageband fives you a bunch of amps and different effects too - fully tweakable and allows you to use AU plug-ins too. The JAM PACKS give you even more amps. I also run my Zoom G2 directly in too and use it's amps and effects sometimes... Garageband is a guitar players DREAM COME TRUE!

Check the output settings in GarageBand's preferences > Audio/Midi pane.
And in the System Preferences > Sound  panel.
Also check the settings in Audio Midi Setup Utility.

  • Can I use garage band to edit my own original music from itunes? Or can I import my own music straight from a C.D. or Flashdrive?

Can I use Garage band (garage band '11) to edit my own original music that I have stored in my itunes library? Is it even possible to edit your own music with Garage band ? And how would you import your songs into it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Use garage band sounds in other applications?

I've never had any need to use Garage Band, but have heard that the sounds are good... is there a way to use Garage Band sounds with a DAW, specifically, Digital Performer?
    Thanks

What do you men with sounds?
    Apple Loops
Apple Loops are just aiff file with additional metadata. You can even play them in iTunes. However I heard that DP can utilize the Tempo Match and Key Match feature.
    Plugins
GarageBand support two Plugin standards. AU Plugins and Logic-Plugins. GarageBand doesn't come with any AU-Plugins only Logic Plugins but DP doesnt support them, they are an Apple proprietary format.
    Drummer
The drummer is nothing other than a sophisticated EXS24 Sampler (a Logic Plugin), therfore no support in DP. If you have a lot of time on your hand, you can access the individual audio samples and build your own sampler that can be used in DP.
    Settings
All the other sound settings are just settings files that are only compatible inside the Apple ecosystem of audio apps (GarageBand, Logic, MainStage)
This ecosystem comes in handy when moving between those apps. Now you can create sounds and settings in Logic and use them in GarageBand or MainStage. Here is screenshot from my new GarageBand book "GarageBand X - How it Works" that illustrates that ecosystem
    Hope that helps

How do I use Garage Band to practice my guitar against lesson CDs and backing track CDs

GarageBand on your Mac or on an iPad?
If you are asking abot GB on a Mac you do the following:
Create a new GarageBand project with a Guitar track
Insert the CD and drag the audio file of the Lesson track or backing track to an empty region below the tracks in the timeline of the GarageBand window.
Plug in a set of head phones and put them on to listen to your backing track.
Plug in your guitar and select the guitar track.
Click on the measure where you want to start your recording and select the guitar track.
Press "record" and start to play.

Simple. GarageBand question, GarageBand forum where all those users are jacked into their Macs and can tell you how. Also look to the right of your post to the column, "More Like This."---------------------------------------------->

split the region at the 28th measure

then select only the first region and option-drag it to the end of the song

  • How to use Garage Band to play a live gig (voice and acoustic guitar)

    Hello!
I'd like to know if I could I use Garage Band to play a live gig (voice and nylon acoustic guitar).
I have an M-Audio fast Track PRO (with 2 plug-ins) as well.
Is the M-Audio Fast track strictly for recording or could it be used for live too?
And for the speaker I though about splitting the audio output from the computer into 2 and one would connect to a loudspeaker going outwards and the other towards me as a monitor.
And the set I wanted to do included a DJ.
I have the Djay spin table and the software.
Would it be possible to run GarageBand for me with the voice and guitar plugged into the M-Audio and then into the Mac and equalize it (and either record it or just play through it). And, on another screen the Djay software and also connect the spin table into the Mac and run it together with me?
    Thanks,
    Fernando.

just playing through GB should be fine, but recording, especially with other software running, might fail. if having a record of the event isn't the most important thing, then go for it. otherwise, i'd suggest using an audio editor to capture the event as you play though GB:

  • Using Garage Band Sampler on iPad2.

    Hi.
Using Garage Band ....Sampler simply stopped working and no longer records any sounds.
    Any clue, anyone?

    What is your GarageBand version?
The sampler is part of the in-app purchase in GarageBand 2.0 -  see this Support Document:
Expanding GarageBand for iOS 2.0 content with an in-app purchase http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6032
With a one-time in-app purchase, you can add Guitar Amp, Smart Keyboard, Smart Bass, Smart Strings, Smart Drums, Sampler, and a total of 157 preset sounds. The purchased instruments appear in the Touch Instrument browser after you purchase them.
In GarageBand 1.4 the sampler is here: see  Play sounds with the Sampler  http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.4/index.html#chs392814a5
And in GarageBAnd 2.0 with in-app purchase:  http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/2.0/index.html#chs392814a5

  • Mac-Ignorant.  Can I use Garage Band with PC and Olympia recorder?

I have a 90 minute session I'm trying to podcast. The first thing I did was publish it on mypodcast.com. Naively I thought I could just post that URL in the podcast feed URL. I don't have a MAC. I have a PC. Is there a way (or perhaps a bunch of steps) that I can get my recorded file using Garage Band via my PC? If so then I will download it.... and then if I can use that, where can I post my recording so that I can feed it to itunes? I know a LOT of questions. I did not RECORD using an IPOD.. I recorded using an Olympia Digital Recorder. Please tell me there's a way!!!

GarageBand is Mac-Only, and also commercial

How do I upgrade the ram?
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.
    Crucial
    Other World Computing
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.
