To givingupusa - a simple Encore Tutorial

To givingupusa - a simple Encore Tutorial
I have CS5, so you need to go slowly to be sure you find the correct commands for your
version of Premiere Pro and Encore
This is for DVD only, since I don't do BluRay
Verify these steps with the book or PDF or help file!
Go past this tutorial exercise for links to online Tutorials
Even if you have a later version, this is a good book to learn Encore
http://www.amazon.com/Focal-Easy-Guide-Adobe-Encore/dp/0240520041/ref=sr_1_1?
This note is written specifically for "givingupusa" who can't get Dynamic Link to
ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277266925
work... but, of course, anyone who is learning may find this to be helpful
Do your editing in Premiere Pro... do NOT use Dynamic Link (this exercise is to be sure
that you may create a file that Encore will use, and that Encore will, in fact, open
properly and actually use that file)
If you are editing HD, read this
Tutorial HD to SD w/CS4 http://bellunevideo.com/tutorials/CS4_HD2SD/CS4_HD2SD.html
This is just a test, so you don't need anything fancy or long in Premiere... a file (or
two?) totalling 10 minutes to as much as half an hour is all you need (keep this test
short, so you find out "quickly" if things work, or not)
When you are done editing, make sure you have selected to export the entire timeline,
then export to either DV NTSC (or Pal) Widescreen or DV NTSC (or Pal) if you are
editing 4:3 video
File-Export-Media... then, on the lower left, select Source Range of Entire Sequence
Upper right select Format Microsoft AVI then just below that Preset select NTSC DV
Widescreen (or PAL DV Widescreen) for widescreen material (if you have been editing
HiDef source) or NTSC DV (or PAL DV) if you have been editing SD material that is in
the 4:3 pixel ratio
Output Name will show a default of Sequence 01.avi which you double click to change to
a file name (and location) of your choice
Export Video and Export Audio are both checked by default... do not change that
Make NOTE of what it says after Output and Source... for this test, going from HD Flip
to DV AVI, mine says
Output 720x480, 29.97 [fps], Lower, Quality 100 - 48000 Hz, Stereo, 16 bit
Bottom right click Export... a window will pop up with a title of "Encoding Sequence
01" with a progress bar in the window... exit from Premiere when done
The result will be a FileName.AVI file (of course, FileName is YOUR actual file name
that you selected) which has video and sound all in one file
Find the Encore program icon that was created when you installed Premiere Pro and
Encore... double click the icon to start Encore... or, if you can't find a program
icon, click START - All Programs and then find Encore in the appropriate Adobe program
group
When Encore starts, select New Project and give it a name and location, and be sure the
DVD option is checked
Make NOTE of the Transcode Settings on this New Project Screen (NOTE that if you exit
from this project and come back to it later, you would select the project name you just
created, instead of New Project)
If your AVI file is large enough that you are going to do a dual layer DVD, Right Click
the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator (or you WILL have an Encore error!)
Make sure you are in the PROJECT panel (look on the upper left) and then File — Import
As - Timeline, and select your AVI File
In the lower right Library panel, use the Set: General, and Drag an appropriate Blank
Menu or Blank Menu WIDE to the Project Panel
In the Project panel Right Click the Menu and set as First Play
In the Flowchart panel in the center of the screen, Drag the AVI and drop it on the
Menu
While in the Properties panel on the upper right, click the AVI file once to set the
focus, then set AVI End Action to Return to Last Menu
Back in the center, with the menu selected, you will a wide button with text (mine
always defaults to Party Highlight 1 for some reason) which is the link from the menu
to play the video
Right Click and Rename (if you wish, figure out on your own how to move this command
button to a different location)
On the top left, select the Build panel
Click the Check Project and then Start in the popup window, and NOTE and fix any errors
3 main Output options are DVD Disc (to go direct to a DVD) or DVD Folder to create the
DVD file structure on your hard disk or DVD Image to create an ISO for later burning to
a DVD
I normally build an ISO and use the FREE Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/index.php? to have more control over the burning settings (burn at the slowest speed
act=download
possible for a better burn) use Verbatim or Tayio Yuden discs (Change the ISO’s Name
via the Browse function)
For this test, I will use DVD Folder and create the DVD folder on my hard drive so I
may then play the DVD from that folder without burning a disc... only do this if you
have a DVD player installed... otherwise, burn to DVD to test at a TV
Even Empty the DVD-ROM says it uses 526k – for the "usual" overhead
Last step is to actually build the ISO File or Folder... I used H: for the folder (you
will, of course, use a drive letter appropriate to your computer setup)
After Encore finished, I used WinExplorer to find the VIDEO_TS folder, which (for my
short test) contained
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
When I double clicked on VIDEO_TS.VOB my DVD player was activated, and the menu came up
on screen, where I could click the name I gave my movie... and the movie began to play
If you do not have this result... report back with all the NOTES you made and with any
error messages
If you are able to create a DVD this way... give up on Dynamic Link and use this
process
Now, some general information about Premiere Pro and Encore

  • Simple introduction/tutorial on how to make Cocoa-Applescript Applets?

    I'm looking for a simple tutorial on how to make Cocoa-Applescript Applets.  I'm pretty new to Applescript, but fairly good at it, and I was wondering how Cocoa-Applescript Applets worked.  I was curious as I've been wondering if it was possible to somehow display images in Applescript, and it apparently is the only/easiest way.  My problem is that I haven't been able to find any tutorials on using it, so I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction, that'd be great!
    thanks in advance

    The main difference is with how the Cocoa APIs are used - in addition to the AppleScript and AppleScriptObjC release notes, there are some examples and resources at Mac OS X Automation.  Note that in Yosemite, AppleScriptObjC is available to all scripts, not just applets and libraries.

  • I need a Adobe Edge simple machine tutorial!

    Hello, I'm looking for a tutorial that will help me make one of the fallowing machinesin adobe edge; 1. A lever is a stiff bar that rests on a support called a fulcrum which lifts or moves loads. There are three classes of levers. 2. A pulley is a simple machine that uses grooved wheels and a rope to raise, lower or move a load. 3. A wedge is an object with at least one slanting side ending in a sharp edge, which cuts material apart. 4. A wheel with a rod, called an axle, through its center lifts or moves loads. 5. An inclined plane is a slanting surface connecting a lower level to a higher level. 6. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a pole which holds things together or lifts materials.
    I hope someone can help!

  • Custom StyledEditorKit: simple example/tutorial?

    I'm trying to write a simple EditorKit to color specific parts of a text (and later different fonts). I extended StyledEditorKit for this, but can't get any text to be colored in my JTextPane. The Java Tutorial and also what I've found in this forum and google didn't show how to start writing a simple EditorKit.

    Well, I have a simple example that shows how to start. Of course it's brute force colorizing always the complete text and only works for well-formed XML, but it's a working example of how to write your own EditorKit. It shows that only a few things have to be done.
    public class XMLEditorKit extends StyledEditorKit {
         * Constructor.
        public XMLEditorKit() {
            super();
        }//XMLEditorKit()
         * Overwrites super.
        public String getContentType() {
            return "text/xml";
        }//getContentType()
         * Overwrites super.
        public Document createDefaultDocument() {
            return new XMLDocument();
        }//createDefaultDocument()
    }//XMLEditorKit
    class XMLDocument extends DefaultStyledDocument {
        /** Attributes for XML element tag. */
        private MutableAttributeSet tag = null;
        /** Attributes for element value. */
        private MutableAttributeSet elementValue = null;
         * Constructor.
        public XMLDocument() {
            tag = new SimpleAttributeSet();
            StyleConstants.setForeground(tag, Color.blue);
            elementValue = new SimpleAttributeSet();
            StyleConstants.setForeground(elementValue, Color.black);
        }//XMLDocument()
         * Override AbstractDocument.
        public void insertString(int offset, String str, AttributeSet a) throws BadLocationException {
            super.insertString(offset, str, a);
            colorize();
        }//insertString()
         * Override AbstractDocument.
        public void remove(int offset, int length) throws BadLocationException {
            super.remove(offset, length);
            colorize();
        }//remove()
         * Called when document content changed to revalidate syntax highlightning.
         * Only works correctly for well-formed XML.
        private void colorize() throws BadLocationException {
            String text = getText(0, getLength());
            int startIndex = 0;
            int endIndex = text.length() + 1;
            int openIndex = 0;
            int closeIndex = 0;
            boolean outOfTag = true;
            while (startIndex <= endIndex) {
                openIndex  = text.indexOf('<', startIndex); //next '<'
                closeIndex = text.indexOf('>', startIndex); //next '>'
                if (outOfTag) {
                    if (openIndex >= 0) {
                        setCharacterAttributes(startIndex, openIndex - startIndex, elementValue, false);
                        startIndex = openIndex;
                        outOfTag = false;
                    } else {
                        setCharacterAttributes(startIndex, endIndex + 1, elementValue, false);
                        break;
                } else { //withinTag
                    if (closeIndex >= 0) {
                        setCharacterAttributes(startIndex, closeIndex - startIndex + 1, tag, false);
                        startIndex = closeIndex + 1;
                        outOfTag = true;
                    } else {
                        setCharacterAttributes(startIndex, endIndex + 1, tag, false);
                        break;
                }//next occurence
        }//colorize()
    }//XMLDocumentSo, to start write a custom EditorKit,
    1. extend StyledEditorKit (or DefaultEditorKit, if you like)
    2. create a document class extending DefaultStyledDocument
    3. overwrite insertString()/remove() in your document class to implement your custom text styling.

  • Problem with simple script tutorial

    In comparing and trying to replicate visibility functionality via scripting, I downloaded ChangingVisualObjectProperties.pdf to work on while going through the Scripting Basics PDF from Adobe. However, what should be a simple task has proved vexing.
    In a word, I can't get a button to change the visibility of a textfield object. I even went to the extreme of setting my file up to be identical in structure and naming convention to the tutorial file. Next, I did screen grabs of all the important property settings for the tutorial file and replicated that in my file. And finally, copied and pasted the actual bit of JS from the tutorial to my example. All to no avail.
    Attached are two files. The first is the sample script tutorial from Adobe's site entitled ChangingVisualObjectProperties.pdf. I've included it simply to make it easy for anyone who wants to compare the tutorial to my sample file. The button in question is CheckBox7.
    My file is called MyChangingVisProps.pdf and contains only two objects, CheckBox7 and TextField.
    If someone could tell me what I'm missing, I will be very grateful!
    Graham

    Well, I just found the answer in another post.... File-> Save As and choose Dynamic XML Form!
    Is there some reason this doesn't take effect when setting options in the Properties dialog?? Talk about a GOTCHA moment!

  • Simple, Easy Tutorial/Guide on Transcoding Video Clips into DVD-Video

    I have purchased the combo of Photoshop Elements 9 and Premier Elements 9. I am new to these programs. I printed the entire 300 + pages of the Premier Elements 9 user guide off of the adobe website. I am totally overwhelmed by all the features and have given up on creating a project, fearing that the program is too complex to attempt.
    If I tell you what I want to do on my project, is it possible to distill all that 300 + pages onto just the essentials of what I need to do?
    If there is a simplied tutorial in this forum, perhaps you could direct me to it.
    I have various video clips on my hard drive and simply want to encode them into the DVD-Video format and then burn them into a DVD-R so that I can watch through my DVD player.
    I would like to create a menu and submenu. Also, creating buttons with thumbnails and labeling each thumbnail with text. I would also like to create a backgrounds for the menu and submenu and the ability to extend the duration of the background image or video. I also would like to create chapters within the submenu.
    I'd really appreciate if you could help in this matter. I'd really like to be able to use my new Adobe program.
    Thank you in advance for your help. I'll check back to this thread on Tuesday to see if I received any responses.

  • "Play" on remote vs. "Enter" - Simple Encore Menu Question

    Hi All,
    I haven't been able to find a good answer to this question as of yet, so I am hoping someone has a clear answer!  I am creating one of the simplest menus possible for my project.  It is composed of a screen capture from my timeline as the background image and a text button which is the name of the short film and acts as the "Play" button.  My project is only one timeline, so nothing complicated.  I am able to make the video play from the menu when I use the remote and physically push the "enter" button, but I would like it to play whether I push the "enter" button OR the physical "play" button on the remote.  I can't understand why pushing play on the remote wouldn't count as using the button?
    Thank you for your time, and if there is any solution or work around, this would be great!  Some of the people who watch my videos don't understand the difference between "enter" and "play" and then the whole thing feels much less professional.
    Thank you!

    I'm having this same issue.
    I have a single menu with one item that is going to play one timeline of video.
    I'd like to have it set up where the user presses play or enter and the video plays.
    I'm not able to do that. I haven't enabled any overrides. Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks so much.

  • Installing Encore after I have installed Premiere CC

    OK - it's simple!  I want to burn a DVD from premiere, and so I want to download Encore CS6.  There are simple tutorials for how to do this and they all say the following:
    Open Creative Cloud
    Click on Your Apps
    Under Premiere, click on "more information"
    ...and then a few more steps to download encore
    However...  I have already downloaded premiere CC, and so the "more information" link is not there.  Instead I have an option to "view tutorials".  How can I download Encore CS6 from here so I can make a DVD for my parents?  I have the project all ready for exporting.
    Waiting with baited breath, and hoping to be able to thank someone soon..

  • Unhappy With Encore

    Hi Joe,
    I've discovered, with frustration and blinding annoyance, that the standard Windows keyboard shortcuts do not work in Encore CS 5.5 (which is what I have). Strange thing is that if you go to Edit (using your mouse) and pick Cut, Copy or Paste, they all display the Windows keyboard shortcuts next to them.
    Anyway, the only way these functions will work, is you have to go around the long way and use the mouse. What I can't believe is that Adobe let this slip through. I had a major complaint about Audition CS 5.5, in which the loop function does not work properly. That I could'nt believe either. After much complaining and moaning, the general feeling in the forum, and from Adobe reps, was that I should buy the updated version CS 6. I said, why the hell should I, when I paid money already, to have this thing working in this version?
    Another thing about Encore is that it must be the worst software I have had the displeasure of working with... it is unfriendly like a hungry lion, very badly designed, and contains a design that I would call archaic. One example: you have a "Selection Tool" and then you have a "Direct Selection Tool", and they need this, because one cannot do both... Jeez guys... are you taking a leaf out of Nokia's book? We had a saying for Nokia after they launched the N-Series phones: we said all their designers must be on drugs, to be making such obviously bad mistakes in their system design.
    A while ago I read in one of the forums that Adobe has software full of holes, and I found myself thinking that that was a bit harsh. Now, in hindsight, I realise this contributor obviously had a bit more experience with the Adobe software than I had, because I find myself on a daily basis, agreeing more and more with him.
    I have the whole Production Suite. In After Effects, the damn thing does not give you the facility to export in exactly the same format as that which your imported clip is in... if you want to do that, (which is in most cases what you want, so that it fits right into the PP project you're busy with) you have to jump through hoops and rings of fire. It is so painfully clear that a simple, single function "export in same format as original clip" is badly needed. And then the program rarely exports properly... it exports with missing frames, almost every export.
    I am bitterly disappointed with this software, and the situation is now just such that I will wait for a much longer time before I upgrade again, if ever. Wow Adobe... this situation is dire, and borders on the shameful.

    Not all of these are for the latest version, but most of the information is the same

    Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and
    then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or
    folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like
    his program)
    Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as
    the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a
    Memorex box)
    When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your
    burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no
    DVD player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality

  • I am trying to install Adobe Encore, but it has been discontinued. Can I install and activate a previous version using my Single App Premier Pro membership?

    I am trying to burn and author a Blu Ray DVD. I do not have a usable version of Encore , as it has been discontinued. I currently have a Single App membership for Premier Pro CC.
    I was advised to install Premier Pro CS6 as Encore comes with this package. I did this, and the software downloaded but an error message came up saying my membership had expired. I think this is because I do not have permission to run Preier Pro CS6 using my Premier Pro CC membership. How can I get the software using my current membership? Or do I need to upgrade my membership to a full Creative Cloud membership in order to use Encore?

    CS5-thru-CC PPro/Encore tutorial list http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1448923 will help
    The bottom section of the link above has several Adobe links, and other information, on downloading Premiere Pro CS6 and the bundled Encore CS6, and the TWO ADDED downloads for the Encore library content, to author a DVD or BluRay... and the tutorial list includes learning how to use Encore... pay particular attention to the picture in reply 3 at this link - https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1516173 (picture first posted by Ann Bens and reposted by Stan Jones)

  • Encore CS6 Timeline Button Endpoint Error

    Adobe has succeeded in making the burning of a project DVD as impossible as possible.
    WIn 7 Pro 64 Bit
    I downloaded the previous version of Premiere Pro (PP) 6 and installed it to get Encore. Then I had to uninstall Premiere Pro 6 because it was crashing my rip in PP CC. I download and install the functional content for Encore 6 (EN6).
    I open my project in PP CC. I built my project fully in one timeline in PP CC. It has hundreds of images, video clips, voice overs and music. I added 8 Chapter Markers to my one timeline and named them appropriately. I exported a DVD Mpeg2 video and audio to my DVD Folder. I took a screen capture and exported it to PS CS6 and made it a PSD.
    I brought everything into EN6 and began building my menus. I have one video file and audio file in the EN 6 timeline with 11 chapter markers for the entire 27 minute film. I only want to put 8 on the menu. I create Poster Frames and assign them to the chapters in the timeline. I brought in my psd and set it as the background of the menu. I chose the Film Video Button from the buttons panel and dragged it on the screen. I duped the button until I had 8 for each of my 8 scenes that are within one timeline. I name each button appropriately and associate each button with the right scene and go to the flowchart.
    In the flowchart panel all my scenes show up below the main menu Thumbnail and they are all named correctly and start the correct scene when clicked. However the individual scene thumbs can only be associated with one end point and they all have the same name. Whatever name I type into the Timeline name field becomes the name for every scene thumb. In this case they are all named "1". I only get to associate one thumbnail out of the entire set of 8 thumbs to an Endpoint and every other Thumb receives the same Endpoint I suppose its ok because I want them all to go back to the menu at end.
    So Adobe Tech support says this is a workflow issue, but can't identify where the problem in my workflow is. There is no resource they can find for me online and I cannot find anything relevant to the issue. So he advised me go to where the real experts are - The Forum - Pat yourselves on the back as you are all unsung heroes out there working these forums. He also had me send him my EN6 file and will get back to me in 4-7 days.
    Does anyone have any idea what I have done wrong in my PPCC or EN6 workflow to create this problem?
    Does anyone have any idea what kind of dope the premiere pro engineering team was smoking when they developed this fantastic way to create a DVD?

    Thanks Stan - SO here is where an Adobe Tech recommended this tutorial

    Hi ,
           Please find Encore Tutorial link mentioned below :

    3.       Chapter 3 (Buttons & Wiring up our Project)
    4.       Chapter 4 (Checking & Building our Project)
    5.       Chapter 5 (Creating a Web DVD)

    8.       Chapter 8 (Creating Slide-shows Part 2)
    9.       Chapter 9 (Creating Slide-shows Part 3)
    But I have now solved the problem - The solution is don't use Adobe and you will be fine. I imported my H.264 into Movie Magix Edit Pro 17 and finished burning the project in 45 minutes. Trying to burn a DVD with PPCC and EN6 is as much fun as hitting yourself in the head with a ball peen hammer.

  • Permissions issue when seeing DVD drive in Encore

    Hi,
    I currently have an issue when using CS4 Premiere Pro Encore in that I can see the DVD drive available (build) when I have admin rights to the machine, but when I change those admin rights to Power User, the DVD drive is not seen by Encore. I am using the Roxio DE 10.3 (Dell's cut down version) as a DVD/CD writing software.
    I would be very grateful for any help on this issue.

    As far as I know, Premiere/Encore REQUIRE Aministrator right to operate fully
