To Hang Time

1. Do you get paid by Apple to do this?
2. if not, why are you so committed to this day and night all the time for years?

There is no one person or persons who is/are Hang Time. Hang Time is the code name for an Artificial Intelligence program created by Steve Jobs and Apple to instantaneously answer the questions from Garageband Users throughout the world at any time.
The more CPU power you have and the more RAM your computer has the more you can feed The Hang TIme program.
It love to snack on flash memory sticks.

  • There is a lot of hang time opening and during the running of firefox. I only had 4 tabes open and it just hangs at different intrivals. It is really annoying.

Hang time for Firefox 16 every time I open the browser it hangs. Then it hangs intermittently while i am trying to work. It does this about 5 to 6 times during my work load. It only has 4 pages opened up. I normally like using firefox. However I am a tech and I push the limits of my laptop and my browsers. With Opera I have at least 20 tabs opened and when i re-open it it take less time for it to come up then it does firefox. All 20 pages are up and running while i am still waiting on firefox to get unstuck. I have gone into the settings and have tried to reset things. How am I supposed to do that when I can't even get the browser to respond because it is hanging there. I have to force close. I can't even get into the settings because once I do, It hangs and then the settings page is just sitting there for ever. I sat for 20 mins with it hanging just because I wanted to see just how long it was going to keep doing it. I have an AMD vision processor and using windows 7. with 4g ram. so what do you suggest. I like many of the features that firefox offers.....and have been a user for years...I would like this looked into please.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

Since downloading Maverick I have a long hang time, computer crashes, can't use word and I can't access finder, why? Also, iTunes is horrible. While I'm listening to my music iTunes will just stop playing the song for at least 5 minutes and I can't force quit why does it do that? This is the first time I have ever felt like my iMac is just as bad as a PC and I wonder if Steve Jobs would have let the program be relase to the public with all the problems involved. No wonder Maverick was free. IT ***** BIG TIME!

    Hello, vanvu.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Since you are experiencing this issue with both a wired and wireless connection only on your home network and not at other locations, this issue would related to your router.  I would first recommend power cycling the router and testing the connection again.  If the issue persists, try updating your routers settings per the article below.

  • Hang Time...was it beginners luck??

About 6 weeks ago, I got some great advice from Hang Time regarding 'syncing up' Garageband with I-Movie. I got both I-Movie and Garageband recording and performed a 'hand clap' (audio spike) which showed up on both programs. I then dragged the I-Movie track onto Garageband's Movie Track, lined up the audio spikes and bingo... perfect sync. Hang Time... do you think I can get it to work now??? Not a hope. Very frustrating. I simply CANNOT get the audio spikes to line up. I've tried starting GB first, then immediately starting I-Movie. I've tried it the other way around too. I've tried 'creating a new project' in I-Movie, NOT creating a new project etc. No matter what I do I cannot get the audio spikes to 'line up'. One spike plays before the other. What am I missing (besides a brain?). Thanks.

One last comment today Hang. I also have Logic Pro which is a fabulous program. I think Garage Band is a poor choice of a name because it too is a killer program. Garage Band sounds kinda cheap. I know there are lots of people out there who haven't tried GB perhaps because they are unaware of just how amazing (and powerful) the program is. What I truly love about GB is how seamlessly it integrates with my Logic Pro. Just a dream tandem!!! Thanks for saving me hours of frustration with the 'uncheck snap to grid' advice Hang. ~Kingdominium

  • E1200 - Hang time issues

The E1200 is a very nice router for the price. The range of features is solid and the install is very easy. I would have given it a clean 5 stars but since install I've been having hang time issues where for about 8-10 seconds the internet connection will completely die out via the router, it doesn't happen through the modem. Firmware has been updated, settings combed through.. Haven't found the reason behind it. All in all it's solid and this is probably more of an issue I'm missing but until I find it I will leave the review as-is. Happy shopping.

This was my post via amazon after purchasing this router. I'm actually debating returning it as the problem is still occurring no matter what settings I run on.

  • Hardware or Software Problem?? "Hang" Time issue

I have no definitive answer or resolution thus far for this
problem in the forums and wanted to re-summarize it here, one more time, to see if anyone has
any other suggestions before i toss in the towel on self-repair efforts and invest in Apple Service.
    Problem:
    On a dual MDD G4 1.25, which i normally boot/use OS 9 on)
there is now a system 'hang time' of anywhere from 15-25 secs. in various circumstances including:
On boot-up, just after the Finder has loaded, I can move the mouse cursor but the Mac won't respond to clicks for up to 15-20 secs. Then, the "buffered clicks" get executed at once.
This hang time also occurs within certain applications, and on startup of IE Explorer there is an abnormal delay between the Open command and completion of startup cycle(opening to Home Page).
At first it appears a system freeze, but then ultimately system interactivity resumes eventually.
This machine is on a high-end Tripp-Lite power conditioner in a recording studio.
The problem seemed to begin after a day where i had multiple power fluctuations/outages requiring cold reboot several times.
I have swapped out both 512 Dimms and tried running with each separately and the problem remained.
TechTools has been run, OSX Permission Repairs run/re-run..
and i've done an OS 9-only "restore/reinstall" of that
System. I also ran a defragmentation off of techtools.
    Memory 'tested' as okay.
My internal HD is a 160g, one partition.
Since the problem occurs within OS 9 and i did reinstall that system, i would tend to think that rules out the System.
I can't detect any similar problem under OSX!
Things tried that didn't resolve it:
Emptying Servers Folder in the System Folder. Desktop Rebuild, PRAM/NVRAM resets, VM Off, Extensions OFF restart, (no change), Startup Items Folder/Prefs Folder EMPTIED and restart; no change. All Devices (USB/Firewire & Cable Modem, Keyboard/Mouse) disconnected/Restart; no change.
MemTest run on Dimms; Reported as OK.
Is there any point in reinstalling Sys software given all
this, or any ideas on what else to try?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    A. Invest in a UPS to go with your line conditioner.
    B. Run Apple Hardware Test
    C. PMU reset and/or reset-nvram in Open Firmware.<<
Hi and Thanks. Yes a UPS is on order.
As to resolving the existing problem, I have performed
Steps B and C. The problem was unchanged.
<div class="jive-quote">Are you working off one drive? two? same bus or separate?<<</div>
One 160g drive (same bus, one large partition).
Might want to zero your drives, even invest in a couple new drives (Hitachi T7K250 160GBs $72 each OWC but out of stock) or something similar. Even Maxtor 300GB 16MB cache are nice.<<</div>
So this could in fact be symptomatic of a damaged HD?
This is the major step I have not taken as of yet. Reason
being, given that OSX seems to function without issues,
I questioned why OS 9 would behave erratically on the same
    HD.
If memtest says RAM is ok, that helps. Best test for RAM there is for consumers.<<</div>
Yes, a couple of memtest tests have "okayed" the Dimms.
You've reinstalled programs from install disks?
    Tried with fresh preferences?<<
Applications/Programs have NOT been reinstalled because it
does not seem to be appliation-related. The problem appears on boot-up with the new 'hang' time after desktop appears, per previous description. It manifests with similar delayed processing periods in certain applications also. Hence I
surmise it to be Hardware or System vs application-specific.
Prefs have been replaced by way of trashing ALL prefs from the original System Prefs folder at the time System 9 was
reinstalled and subsequently using a Temp-Prefs folder to
remove them all and reboot. With NO prefs, the identical
problem appeared during the startup completion process.
Latest version of TTP for Classic OS 9? for OS X? (4.5.1 beta is pretty good). <<</div>
Yes, using the latest version of Tech Tools and it has been
run on the OSX application but there is no feature (that I
found) within TTP that allows one to choose ONLY the System 9 Folder (not on TechTools 4+ versions). It boots only as,
    and in, OSX.

  • Data extraction hanging/time-out for certain FISCPER parameters

    Hi all,
Our process chain that extracts and load data from one cube into another hangs when the FISCPER parameter value range is on the same fiscal year and the 'period to' value is 09 or less.  We've tested this also using RSA3 and the same result happened.
Below are the FISCPER scenarios that we've tested using both our Process Chain and RSA3:
2009001 to 2009012 -> test result is ok
2008001 to 2008011 -> test result is ok
2009002 to 2009012 -> test result is ok
    2009001 to 2009009 -> test result is not ok:loading hangs/time-out
    2008002 to 2008008 -> test result is not ok:loading hangs/time-out
Can anyone share the solution please if this was also experienced before?
    Thanks in advance.
    Aloy

This has been resolved.  Oracle release earlier than 10.2.0.4.0 still uses factview when selecting records.  Because of this, certain issues arise and one of these is the time-out during data selection. the problem can be solved by disabling the use of factview or by upgrading oracle database.

  • "Hang time" problem continues... Diagnostic advice anyone?

Hi, I posted another thread on this and the issue remains
unresolved... I also don't know if it is an OS 9 'system' vs
hardware problem but here's a summary of what's happening.
On a dual boot MDD 1.25, which i normally boot/use OS 9 on)
there is now a system 'hang time' of anywhere from 15-25 secs.
    in various circumstances including:
    1) Startup/Restart: Desktop appears, but the wristwatch icon indicates processing, and the startup doesn't fully resolve to where i can do anything(mouse/keyboard control/commands) for a lingering amount of time. At first it appears to be a freeze, but then ultimately system interactivity becomes functional, i.e, the cycle 'completes'
"eventually." In short there is a radically delayed response time which reminds me of the kind of behavior
you'd expect from bad memory chips. Still, i have swapped out both 512 Dimms and tried running with one or the other and the problem remained.
The problem also occurs specifically with a browser app,
(IE Explorer). Same scenario; command to open the application and get a delay of up to 20-30 seconds (wristwatch icon appears) before it ultimately 'resolves' and opens. Several other apps have shown the same behavior.
TechTools has been run, OSX Permission Repairs run/re-run..
and i've done an OS 9-only "restore/reinstall" of that
System. I also ran a defragmentation off of techtools.
    Memory was 'tested' as okay.
My internal HD is a 160g, one large partition.
One sidenote. While my gear is all on high-end Tripp-Lite
power conditioners (this is a recording studio machine),
it seems to have started acting weirdly a few weeks ago,
after a day where i had multiple power fluctuations/outages.
after a stormy day where powe
i an not sure if this sounds 'symptomatic' of any one thing in particular.
I'm reluctant to bother reformatting/reinstalling everything if it isn't necessarily a software vs. hardware problem at
fault. Since it occurs within OS 9 and i did reinstall that
system, i would tend to think that rules out the System.
BTW, i can't detect any similar problem when running the OSX
    system on here.
Not sure where to go from here with this... If anyone can
help, i would be most grateful.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I would look over Apple System Profiler logs for some
possible clues. (This may help if there is more of a USB related hardware issue, like keyboard or its hubs...)
Ron, thanks for the idea, but so far the problem is still a mystery.
I trashed the Profiler prefs and restarted. Same 'hang time.' - I can
describe it a little more clearly. In the case of a start-up/restart, the
desktop fully appears, the cursor is moveable, but the wristwatch icon
indicates some form of actity still processing and nothing can be done
for approximately 10-12 secs, at which time, after the watch icon blinks
off the screen, control is 'released' and i get mouse/keyboard control.
Here's another observation. I do hear a definite 'swooning' of the drive
during this hang period...(as if it's accelerating...?)... Maybe i've just
never paid attention. AFAIK this machine is generally pretty loud.
"My internal HD 160g, one large partition.
My personal take is that I do not believe Mac OS 9
would run efficently on a HD with that wide open
capacity. First of all the ATA controller needed a
48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) "crutch"
to get it that far. My open question was Mac OS 9('s)
HD drivers written to actually do that?
Well, that may well be an issue, but i know that up until a week or two ago when i posted about this, the delayed-response problem wasn't
    happening.
At this point i'm verging on having the hardware checked out tho if
there are any other ideas i'd gladly try them first. It's sheer speculation
that something's damaged internally and i don't know if a reinstall of OSX
makes any sense since the problem SEEMS to only be apparent within
    the OS9 System environment...
If anyone can suggest where i might go from here, i'd be most grateful.
    Mike

  • HP Envy 1414 Windows 8.1 Desktop - File Explorer hangs, time stops on taskbar

    Hello,
The problem I'm having seems to occur atleast every day. When the problem starts, the desktop background (picture slideshow) will go to a black picture, and I often notice that the time is incorrect, and often stuck. Also when this happens, the items on the taskbar will either be in the wrong spot, or invisible, and when I click on one icon it may or may not open a different one. The only thing that seems to correct this is by hitting ctrl+alt+del and signing out and then back in. The other problem happens less frequently, and what happens is when I click on anything in file explorer, such as a video or a picture file, file explorer will stop responding. This does not seem to happen as often as it used to. I seem to be having the primary issue more often since I updated to 8.1 last month.
Any insight on this issue will be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to find a similar problem with the same product on other web pages.

  • Very Bad hang time when 1st opening Safari 5.0.2

Every time I 1st open up Safari It hangs for 4-5 seconds before it loads the page.
    Message was edited by: Seanrobrien

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
You could also try these codes as well: 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x
    This is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

  • Long hang time, videos and photos not being processed in playback

I just purchased a new iMac desktop complete with the 3.06GHz processor and iLife '09. Expecting to be editing in fast speeds, I am real disappointed in that when I import photos and various video clips, then playback what I've compiled (either in the small playback window or full screen), the software does not show the clips being played. Oddly, the software might display a clip from a few sections back or forward that have nothing to do with (as an example), the photo that should actually be playing at that point in time.
Furthermore, when I export the project into a Quicktime, all the clips are correctly being shown, but this only happens during export. Lastly, there appears to be significant wait times (spinning color wheel) for no reason whatsoever, even when the project is very short in length with few complex edits and/or fancy effects taking place.
iMac has 2GB 800 MHz RAM, plenty of room on a 500 GB HD and all software is up to date.
Any insight anyone has would be very much appreciated. I basically purchased this new desktop for the sole reason to edit and compile projects faster than an iMac from several years ago, and this is really frustrating to say the least.
    Thank you.

It may help you to click /Software Update. If you Mac is brand new, it may not have the latest updates.

  • Load using 'olapicmd' hangs/times out

I hope someone as seen this and knows what might be happening (the Hyperion KB did not help). We are using 'olapicmd' (6.5.4) to load data from an Oracle view into Essbase 6.5.4. The process runs and it appears to have loaded all records from the view/table, but does not disconnect cleanly. Essbase reports a network timeout (EIS and Oracle are on 1 server, Essbase on another). Sometimes the olapicmd session hangs and does not timeout. The view has 63-77 million rows. Breaking the loads into smaller chunks seem to work.thanks, Merry Christmas

If you put them in the ear together it should work. It has to do with the classloaders being different. I don't know the details though, could anybody elaborate?

  • Really long hang time after hitting record?

New to Logic and the following problem:
When I hit record to record on a new track, I get the spinning rainbow ball for a good 20 seconds before recording begins. And when it starts recording it starts 20 seconds into the songs. Thanks for your help!

The traditional answer to this is you are most likely recording to an external drive which is formatted as a Windows FAT32 drive.
For your Mac, this is a bit like shaking hands with lepers. (Love it, I never thought I'd get this phrase in here!)
Your external drive should be formatted as HFS+, and then it will work fine. FAT32 is a horrible file system that shouldn't be used on Macs except for reasons of compatibility, and barely even then...
