To hot CPU in a water cooled G5

Hello!
My G5 DP 2.5GHz is water cooled and quite noisy. The fans are also ramping up and down all the time. Today I installed a Temperature Monitore and it shows:
CPU A 62° C
CPU B 49° C
when the computer is doing nothing (except that I'm writing this text). When the G5 is really working the readout is something like:
CPU A 79° C
CPU B 57° C
So, the CPU A is always running 50% hotter than the other one, which can't be ok? Or is that normal for liquid cooling systems, that one CPU runs much hotter than the other?
(The CPU Card/Surrounding temperature is for both nearly the same)
Hope anybody has an idea what going wrong with my Mac.

Can you be a bit more specific about the problem? (Do you know what the problem is, how much it will cost,...)
And is it something that could fry my G5 next time I switch it on, or is it more like it is not good in the long term.

    I am running idle (cpu) at btw 44c and 46c. When I installed a game (quake) and then played it my temp rose to 52c. So I guess I am ok right now. I would like it to run a little cooler however.
    I am running Innovatek -
    CPU block
    Northbridge Block
    Video Card water block
    2 HD blocks
    Innovatek Konvekt -O-Matic passive water cooling heat dissipation: over 4 pounds and 13 1/2 inches long by 9 inches high
    Also I am using the NEW Nanotherm PCM+ on all blocks (cpu, gpu, northbridge)
    All the blocks are smooth, no leaks. I am using an Eheim 2011 pump which also holds over 1000ml reservoir AND I have a tank-o-matic 280ml reservoir. I am using distilled water with the Innovatek conditioner (2 bottles equaling about 30% ratio). I have two fans in the system.
    The only temp I can gauge is my CPU. I do not know how to check my GPU or Northbridge temps although I would like to know how, please. My ambient room temperature is around 72 to 74 degrees.

  • GTX 480 Water Cooling Needed?

    I'm looking at purchasing a GTX480 and looking at the reviews it seems that many indicate it runs hot.  I know some of you are running this card and would like your thoughts on watercooling.  Do your cards run too hot?  And specifically if you run water cooling, what parts are you using that work well or would be recommended?  Ideally I would want to purchase a system for the CPU and GPU and not have to figure out each tube and joint separately.  Much thanks in advance.

    I agree with Baz, I use the HAF X case--lots of room, lots of fans, including one dedicated to the 480, and it's been running nice and cool. The large fans means it runs very quiet as well.

  • MSI Big Bang XPower II - Corsair H60 Water cooling issue

    So I am using a Corsair H60 water cooling on my MSI Big Bang XPower II mainboard.  I have followed the correct instructions on installation but every time I turn the computer on once it its 31 it shuts down.  Everything seems to be working correctly except the cooling.  There are no instructions that really relate well to installation for this water cooling to this mother board so I have tried placing the pump power and the fan power on various different inputs.  I have the pump just on a sys power fan and the 120mm fan blowing through the coils on the back of the machine connected to the CPU 1 head fan (as instructed in their videos).  I am not 100% sure the pump is working but I know that the fan is working and the hardware overview shows it recognizes the fan.
    anyone have some ideas to try to see if I can get this to work? I am also wondering if it is a faulty pump or something but it seems to be working.

    The pump is not working. The 3-pin connector for a fan header is just for reading out pump speed. You need to power it with the molex connector.

  • 3.3 Ghz. Overclocked, water cooled, MacPro 1,1 won't boot

    I'm not good at writing, so bear with me...
    Please understand all that I did can be filed under the categories of "For Fun" or "Because It Was There".
    MacPro1,1 generally worked fine, but I think my PSU fan wasn't working and I shorted out the front panel USB.
    Doing video, thinking after 5 years need a new Mac, but read about upgrades processor upgrades & decided to try.
    So... Got two X5350's, did the BSEL and vid mods and got a usable machine for everything but processor intensive stuff. Might have been the heat from the PSU, but seemed more related to proc's temp. Decided to watercool. (Don't worry, I'll do an entire article on this later. Should be interesting, I've set it up to dump the computers heat to a GeoThermal ground loop)
    I'm on vacation now. But right before I left I finished leak testing and did the first attempt at booting and...
    No joy.
    Got chimes, RAM bank LCD's, and didn't see any mobo warning lights. But no video (oh yeah- EK water block on a 5770 pushing two 30" ACD's). Didn't hear it accessing the hard drives at all, and the fans went up to full speed.
    PRAM, SMC, yadayadayada... Still November Juliet.
    BUT... I never reconnected the CPU's heatsink temperature thermistors to the mobo. The only one I was able to get off without breaking was to the Northbridge.
    Questions:
    A.) Does the lack of connected working thermistors explain the lack of booting?
    B.) if A=True, then (**THE IMPORTANT QUESTION**) how to I get (buy, manufacture, or steal) a replacement pair?
    C.) if A=False then Oh God, what have I done and how do I fix it?
    To complicated matters, while getting the bubbles out (lifting/tilting) the computer slipped out of my hands onto it's side (mobo side down). No obvious damage, but the Koolance CPU-340 waterblock's are nickel/copper and kind of heavy!

    Oh baby, its up & running! It was the RadioShack transistors that did the trick. (This just slays me... after $40 to get 25mm 3.5M screws, I get the answer to the thing puzzling me most from RadioShack.) See it at

    I've been having some Display issues with fine sparkly lines on the mini display port monitor (not the main with the ADC). Now, mind you, it's the FAR mdp because when you use the near one the second monitor won't come up with boot (always. even before the overclock). NOWHERE as bad as the old 8800. That one sparkled so bad it was like... (Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ohhhhh...).
    This also seems to be heat related. I've noted that when I can stress the GPU the Temp of "CPU A Proximity" sensor rises. And it's not the CPU that's doing it, I showed this just by repeatedly testing the GPU in CineBench. (BTW, did you know Handbrake uses the GPU? Up to 40% at some times!).
    So the next step is to unplug the 5770 and stress the system via Screen Sharing, but my guess is that there are issues with how the Mac uses the cards. Seriously, the X1900. the 8800, and now the 5770?
    Nah, I'm not buying it anymore. They've got heat and power issues that they don't want to address, probably because it'd need an EFI update. And they ain't gonna do that 'cause EFI is really the only way to "Obsolete" you into a new purchase. And if they did, they'd have to address the "PSU fan won't go over 600rpm" issue, or face accusations that they 1.) Don't know how to fix it , or 2.) Don't wanna fix it- you just need to go buy a new computer!
    Anyway, if I can figure anything about the Displays, I'll come back & let ya know.
    BTW, yeah, I wanted an upgrade but I was more concerned with the extra seven 100 Watt light bulbs I have in my office (MacPro=400W, 2 30" ACD's=300W), and how to get rid of their heat. Hey, I'm middle-aged, fat, live in Texas and have two school aged kids that didn't like seeing their old man working at his desk in his underwear & wiping sweat from his face & pits with a shop towel. On the upside, the annoying neighbor kids quit hanging around.

  • Doubt about sys fans and connection of water cooler pump

    Hello, I have a motherboard MSI Z97 gaming 7 and need to know which connector you guys recommend connecting the water cooler pump H60 Corsair: sys fan or cpu fan?
    I want to connect the pump in the sys fan 1, 2 or 3, but need to know if I can put the SYS Fan running at full speed 100% for some bios option, it is possible? So I can leave the option CPU Fan 1 and 2 free for fans.

  • Water cooling for K8N Neo4

    I am thinking about trying out an alternative cooling method for my motherboard. Core Center reads my CPU Temp at 125 F and System Temp at 129 F on average.
    Wanted to know if anyone has tried any water cooling kits that fit on this motherboard msi K8N Neo4 Platinum.

    I have the regular CPU heatsink/fan that came with the AMD64 X2 4800+ CPU. I have a Cooler Master Cavalier 3 case with One 80 x 80 x 25 mm Front Fan ( intake) and One 120 x 120 x 25 mm Rear Fan ( exhaust ), also has like a CPU air duct on the side panel.
    Just wanted to know if anyone with the same motherboard has been able to fit a waer cooling or A/C type cooling that will clear the voltage regulators or other parts around the CPU.

  • Hot CPU?

    ok well I was running a hot CPU so I reinstalled the HSF thinking it might have been my fault.. This time I cleaned everything off and installed AS5.. Well im still getting just about the same temps.. between 60-65C idle.. Is that hot? Gaming im getting about 70C or so. Im using the retail AMD HSF which runs at 3100rpm for an AMD Barton 2800+. I also have what I believe is sufficient case airflow.. I have one intake fan at the front of my case and one exhaust fan in the back of my case. My Antec PSU also has a fan on the bottom of it (in the case) and one blowing air out of the case (on the back of the PSU). According to my motherboard my case temp is 35C although it does run about 5 C cooler if I open up the case.. but then it is kinda loud and annoying.. Any help would be appreciated.. P.S. I believe Bartons are the hottest running processors available so im not sure if this is a decent temp.. but I dont think so..

    Anyways 70 °C is really at the lower end of the usual mainboard self-protection shut-down temperatures. You should do something about this.

    Was nice and clean, used ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Thermal surface Purifier. I think either the CPU or Mobo was on they way out as in the end the CPU gave up the ghost. I done quite alot purchased 2 heatsinks with 2 months of each other.
    I used an applicator to spead the paste on plus i also followed instructions i this post

  • Zaleman Resorator Fanless Water cooling system

    Hello everyone
    Have not been here in a while....
    I was wondering if any of you have tried or have the new Zalman Resorator water cooling system?
    I just installed it on my system (cooling CPU and GPU) and after running sisoft sandra burn in utility for the CPU for 6 hours straight I only saw a 1 degree c increase in temps I have the CPU overclocked from 2.8 to 3.2 229fsb 9800 pro is not overclocked. Temps were 51 idle and 52 after 6 hours of the burn in utility.
    It seems that this system Holds temps very consistent between idle and load.
    All case fans were set at 50% spd.
    This system is soooo quite now.
    any thoughts?

  • Switching to water cooling

    In my first custom built PC, I wanna switch to water cooling. I want the kind that feeds throughout your PC and cools RAM, CPU etc. and I also want the cable to glow blue. (not necessary but would be cool.......no pun intended ). any help?

    That's probably a little outside of the scope of this forum. 
    Found this guide that looks easy to follow and pretty comprehensive, though.... Hopefully it will get you on the right track.

  • Lightning water cooling help!!!

    I recently bought an asetek closed loop water cooler for both my reference 7970 and my lightning 7970.  When I pulled off the twin Frozer and put on the pump, the lightning card would not accept more than one monitor (I have 6, 3 in eyefinity and 3 just because I can.)   everytime I plugged in a second monitor, the lightning would last about 2 seconds, then freeeze the computer.  I evn unplugged the pump's fan cable from the card and connected the Twin Frozr fan cable, and still a no go.  When I COMPLETELY installed the twin frozr again, the card went back to normal. 
    Anybody have any thoughts on why?  Is there a special signal being sent by the Twin Frozr fans?

    The closed loop cooler they are only selling on ebay.  It is a cpu and gpu cooler with a 120mm radiator.  I had the gpu pump hooked up to the lightning card, and the cpu pump to the reference 7970.  The brackets are for nvidia cards, I used the ever popular ziptie method of holding the cooler to the lightning card.  It worked fine, but like I said, for whatever reason when I hooked up a 2nd monitor (display port, or dvi) about 2 seconds later the screens went blank and everything locked up.  This happened in windows and in the UEFI Bios, didn't matter.
    I just wanted to make sure that the card did not need its fans.  It is possible that I did not have a solid connection to the core.  I am going to try again next week (spring break, a great time to break things because you have plenty of time to fix them!) and use a shim between the gpu and the cooler.

  • General water cooling temp question....

    So I've got a water cooling loop set up with both my video cards and my CPU... My CPU idles at 40c, and i haven't seen it go past 60c under full load. My 2 video cards run about the same 42c at idle, and 63c in fur mark under load... This is with my radiator fans at half speed. Got 4 120mm 133 CFM fans on it.
    So my question is are these bad temps?
    p.s. my loop goes CPU VID card 1 then VID card 2.

    The temps look good and if the PC is rock stable with them don t worry about it.Over 80 Celsius may look bad ,but thats not your case.
    The GPU should be able to do even 80 Celsius.

    Been combing the web trying to find an answer for my question and stumbled upon this forum. I figured you might know. I just purchased a combo pack on Newegg that had a MSI 990FXA-GD80V2 motherboard and AMD FX-8150. Seeing how the stock fan/heatsink barely keeps the heat in check i was looking for alternatives. What i want to know is if the motherboard would work well with the CPU cooled by lets say CORSAIR H80 water cooler. I know from recently help a friend with his rig that without the normal CPU fan some motherboards them selves overheat. Only way we fixed his was to bolt a separate fan on the mobo for that issue. 
    So a recap on my question. Does the motherboard its self have adequate cooling to allow the CPU to have watercooling?

    The question of heat is covered in a few areas.. air flow of the case itself.. to include amount of fans, and if you plan to run, in your case the FX-8150 overclocked or not. At stock speeds the CPU cooler that came with the CPU will work fine.. possible with even a small OC. If you are planning to OC and/or play with variable OC's and testing.. a better CPU cooler is the way to go. The new water cooling systems like the H80/100 and other self contained water coolers are good. Better than a self built water cooling system, there is less chance of leakage.
    If you take the time to look at CPU cooler reviews... a lot of good air coolers are cooling better than a cooling system like the H80. A real nice thing about the coolers like the H80 is airflow in the case. It also takes a case that can handle the size of some of the air coolers. A lot of them are huge in size. I have a friend who has both the H80 and H100. He tells me that he likes the cooling of the H100 better. He does serious Overclocking. I also own the 990FXA-GD80 and have an FX-8150 on the way. I am using a Zalman 9900. I plan to continue using it.. that said, my friend is trying to talk me into an H100. My case is the Antec 280 and it is possibly the largest case on the markey with 7 120mm fans running, plus the CPU cooler. If you look at the bottom of posts we list our equipment. Being new here, you might not have read the posting guide. If you give us your information, how you plan to use and overclock or not we can give a better answer.
    To focus on your question.. like Svet answered... yes, the H80 should do a good job.

    Hi, I have an HPE-580t running Windows 7 64-bit & I'm looking to try messing around with some overclocking, but my temps using air coolers are running a bit high.  I'm trying to find a decent water cooler (preferably closed loop cpu cooler) that will actually fit in this case.  I've been searching to see if I can find anybody that has one, but not having any luck.  Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    HP uses a locked bios so forget about over clocking.   I have the same motherboard in my HP e9280t so if you can figure out how to do then let us know.
    Many water coolers do bolt to the top of the PC and vent up so your cabinet is also going to be a problem.
    This Cooler Master 212 is one of the best non-water models on the market.  I don't think that it would fit in your cabinet.

  • Water Cooling an MSI GTX670 PO/OC

    I make a call to all water cooling enthusiasts out there! I am roaming the internet trying to figure out if the MSI GTX 670 PE/OC edition can be water cooled. The card varies quite a lot in terms of length from the ref card and a tiny bit in terms of component's shape and placing but still not so much that they look too different. I had prepared a naked card comparaison and url link to all hardware I'm talking in this post but apparently I am not allowed to post any link whatsoever.. On a forum..
    Ideally I'd like to use a full body water cooling solution like the AXPC Razor GTX670 or the Heatkiller GPU-X³version but I'm unsure if it would fit and cool as good as with the reference card. And if it does, does any of the elements left uncovered on the right (because of the extra length of the MSI card in comparaison to the ref.) would need tiny custom radiators on them to keep cool (and if it suffice).
    If it turns out these full body are absolutely incompatible with the MSI I guess a more conventional universal GPU water block (XSPC Raystorm) would work or is it still, for some reasons incompatible? If it is, like I hope, a viable build, I'd also have to place plenty of custom heat-sinks on all the memory and other components that would otherwise be cooled by a main body water cooling solution. Would the card then be cooled enough, provided on top of custom copper heat-sinks, a 230mm side fan blows fresh air right on the card?
    I love MSI products and just upgraded to the MSI 670 power edition from my MSI 560ti 448 power edition because I've always been very happy with MSI products, I realize ideally reference cards are best for water cooling  because of their generic shape but I had the 670 before deciding to go GPU water cooling. I don't feel like sending back the MSI for a ref just yet if I can custom cool it I'd much rather use it.

    It is not possible to cool the vrms passively with these tiny coolers to be glued on. Just the airflow of a side panel fan won't help. This cooling is insufficient and could lead to a dead card.
