  • How can i install Linux (Ubuntu or Kubuntu) and Windows at the same HDD?

    Hi everyone
I have Toshiba L20-148 and I have the Toshiba Product Recovery DVD and I have the Ubuntu DVD
I'm only able to install Linux or the Windows XP Pro that i have with the recovery DVD
and the only way i know to install them both together is by installing linux then windows... but whenever i try to install windows usin' the data recovery it just formats the whole HDD and install windows only...
    any help?

    Hi
The boot manger can be set manually in the Windows system properties.
Please go to the control panel and select system
    Then select the Advanced tab
In the advanced tab please select the option Settings in the Startup and recovery area.
A new window should open and you should use edit button in the system startup area.
You should see something like that:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
To add a further booting option you should change it for example to:
    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\Linux="linux kubuntu" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

  • Installing Software on Intel based Mac Laptop

    Hi
    Just to clarify.....
Can I install a PC program on my 'partitioned' Windows Hardrive?
I wanted to be able to run a PC program: 3D Max 8 and do some work on a 3D grphic. I was unable to open this graphic file on my Mac as (created in 3D Max). I tried Adobe After FX 6 but it wouldn't open the file either.
So, I thought the solution would be to install 3D max application on the Windows side of my computer. Am I mistaken in my assumption that this is possible?
If it is, how do I do it? The installer is in the Shared folder on the Mac partition.
    Cheers
    Tracy in London

    Thanks.....I will try that.
Don't have Boot Camp. Will check it out.
One more thing......I shut down the computer while it was in Windows. Now I want to boot up on the Mac side. Whats the Keyboard shortcut for this? Don't have the install CD with me.
I can't believe this! I should have gone back to the Mac side before I shut down.
    Cheers

  • XP 64bit on Mac Pro direct install - I did it before, but why can't I now??

Really frustrating this. I previously had an XP 64bit installation on a separate drive (WD 300GB) on my Mac Pro using a slipstreamed XP disk. I didn't use Boot Camp just did a direct install of windows, somehow.
I wanted to clone that drive onto a smaller 160GB drive I had so I could make use of the WD for backups - noting worked, so I ended up having to do a clean install of XP on the smaller drive. But this time for some reason a direct install doesn't work! I have no idea why.
I can boot into the XP CD and start the install but after the first reboot to continue the installation it can't read the drive and looks to the CD again. If I take out the CD I get an error telling me there's a disk hardware problem.
The only way I can install XP is with a Boot Camp partition first. However if I do this none of the XP disk partitioning tools will touch the disk (because they don't support GUID). I need to create a partitioned XP disk so that in the future I can reinstall the OS if I need to without wiping my data. Boot Camp doesn't seem to let me add an extra partition either. Ugghghg!!
What the **** did I do the first time around that let me do a direct install??
Alternatively can someone tell me how to create a new partition on the XP drive (by shrinking the current XP partition).

  • ADE mac laptop help please

I have an intel based mac laptop OS X v10.6.4 and use Firefox v3.6.8. and downloaded the most recent flash player.  I am trying to read library epub books on my mac.  I have unintalled and reinstalled ADE too many times and I did it according to adobe's recommended steps.
Here is the problem; I install the app but no set-up assistant runs.  Furthermore, when I open the app, all there is is a black screen and nothing at all in the menu bar. No options, no nothing.  I tried adobe chat and they couldn't help.
note: I own a kindle and am aware that epubs "can't" be read on it. I would consider purchasing a nook or a sony if I could confidently get ADE going.
****Thank you for reading this and any help and advise is greatly appreciated****

Hi, This thread may be helpful or at least point you in the right direction to receive some help. I am totally unfamiliar with ADE or any of the Readers. I just search sometimes for answers for others:-)

I use a mac laptop and installed Firefox as I can't use my CMS .
In this CMS my invoices are in pfd. At the moment I can't open it but only download it. There must be a way to open them as well but I can't find what and how to change it so I can open it as well.

  • Adobe Connect on PPC-based Macs?

    Hi there,
Adobe Connect 9 needs at least FlashPlayer 10.3. But this version doesn't seem to work on PPC-based Macs.
But i cannot  find a proof. Is there a way to take part via an (non-intel) PPC-based Macs?
    Thank you in advance.

You can find the past releases of Flash Player here:

FP 10.1 is the last version that I see supporting PowerPC Macs, but I could be wrong.

But you can install any version of Windows or Linux legally on an Apple notebook.  That has to do with license agreements.   You can read all the license agreements for Apple's operating systems here:

    This tip explains how:

It may be time to sell your Acer, and get an Apple instead.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

  • HT3669 Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. Can someone please advise me how I get the printer to work with my i-Mac? I have installed it but documents don't print. Thanks

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

  • Installing Leopard 10.5.x on an older Intel Core Duo based Mac Mini

I have an opportunity to purchase a new in box Intel Core Duo based Mac Mini (last years model), seller is throwing in a sealed copy of Leopard 10.5.x and says I can install it, but I'm wondering if someone can tell me how well Leopard will run on a Core Duo. Would it be better to stick with the pre-installed Tiger on this hardware?
Are there any pitfills to running Tiger vs Leopard?
The system would be for my wife who is most interested in iLife 08 apps. Can the Core Duo based Mini handle iDVD and iMove well?

    Hi
I am using an imac 20" with an intel core duo processor. I was also told leopard would run fine on that. For me it does not. I installed in April and immediately had frequent crashes and freeze ups. I have been using macs since 1987 and never experienced so many problems. I did everything I could think of to solve the problem - clean erase and install, upgraded to full Ram capacity, upgraded to Iwork 08 and Ilife 08, turned off all wireless. Tons of time and extra expense. NOTHING made a speck of a difference. I finally called Apple support. They went through various software and hardware tests, including a new archive and install. It actually crashed twice while I was on the phone. My rep enlisted the help of a senior person, who told me it was most likely a hardware issue, even though all hardware tests he ran with me while on the phone were fine. He said it was not a leopard issue, and I should probably take it to a service place - at my own expense of $350 to look at the hardware (as I no longer have a warranty). I said first I was going to downgrade to Tiger, because I really did feel that Leopard was the problem - after all, these only problems started as soon as I installed leopard (he said that was just a coincidence). I said if the problems continued while running tiger - then I would go to a service location.
GUESS WHAT? I have reinstalled Tiger, upgraded to 10.4.11 and it works beautifully. SO I am convinced that the problem is the intel core duo processor - everthing else was ruled out, with the help of apple themselves. Ilife 08 and Iwork 08 run better than ever (I have 2GB ram installed)
My suggestion to you would be stick to tiger, at least for a while. There is nothing on leopard that you really need - it is much prettier and has more bells and whistles and takes more memory, but in my mac experience, tiger is the most stable OS ever - I am delighted to have returned to it.
If you do decide to upgrade to leopard - go for it, but don't struggle for as long as I did. If you notice problems, just go back to tiger. After reflecting on the experience, I believe Apple knows of the issue and is simply not going to invest in debugging an older processor model - I definitely got the feeling that the support people would rather I believe my Mac was about to die, and get me thinking about purchasing a new one, which would solve the problem completely.
Sorry for the long post - I am new to forums
By the way, my imac also runs idvd well.

  • Can i install an entire Xp in my intel based mac mini?

can i install an entire Xp in my intel based mac mini?
    no boot camp.
how to do that if impossible?

    Hi Matthew!
Boot Camp will be the closest you'll come to your goal. A Mac is afterall intended to run Mac OS software first and foremost and Windows is only a secondary OS. But it is possible to boot into Windows after using Boot Camp to get it installed and then delete the Mac partition. You can always reinstall the Mac OS later.
Or you can still use Boot Camp to get Windows installed and just never boot back into Mac OS X (leaving it on its own partition). But why have Apple hardware just to do that? You'd be better off selling your Mac Mini and purchasing an Intel machine that will run Windows natively.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Installing Leopard onto a Non Intel based Mac

My friend just bought a new intel based Mac Pro with Leopard. It came with the install discs. Is it possible to take those discs and install them onto a computer that is a Dual 1.8 GHZ Mac that does not have an intel processor?
    Thanks in Advance

no, it's not possible. It's also against ULA but in this case it won't matter because this will not work anyway.
You need to buy a retail version of Leopard to install it on your Mac.
