To MacBookPro or Not To MacBookPro?

I am a Mac G5 owner with a 30" ACD. Use it for web development and Photoshop most of the time. Looking at upgrading and am confused as to go with a new MacBook Pro 17" or Intel Mac Pro Quad.
Any recommendations as to why I should and should not go one way or the other?

If you dont need to be portable i'd go with the Mac
Pro.
More internal storage capacity and more power.
I agree, although a MBP will certainly handle your type of work. I went from a PM G5 to a MBP and love the potability factor, built-in iSight and wireless capabilities.

Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Most likely needs to be run under an admin account. What's yours?

Is it plugged in?
Does the cable show any sign of fraying?
Is there power coming through the outlet that powers something else?
Have you tried holding down the power button a few second and then letting go?
Does it have an externally removable battery? If it does, does removing the battery solve the issue?

IPhone 4s sync with MacBookPro but not with iMac

Hi!
My new iPhone 4s 6.1.3 sync perfectly well with my MacBookPro 10.8.4 but my iMac 10.7.5 never recognize it.
I already:
- Restarted my iMac and my iPhone 4s several times
- Have done a "restore from backup" on my phone
- Have restored the phone to factory settings
- Tried disconnecting the phone multiple times
- Used different cables
- Used all usb ports in my iMac
- Uninstalled iTunes and all its components and re-installed it
- Downgraded iTunes 11.0.4 to 10.7
- Repair permissions in iMac
- Remove third-party software (like Little Snitch, Peer Guardian, ...) [NOTE: this software are installed in my MacBookPro too. The MacBookPro is a exact copy of the iMac. Software, preferences, documents, etc, are identical]
- Started iMac in Safe Mode
But syncing still don't work between iPhone 4s and iMac.
iTunes don't recognize it, but the iPhone charge the battery when I plug it to the iMac.
ITunes in MacBookPro always recognized the phone since I bought it.
What else can I try?

I'm trying to import my old "on myMac" mail folders from my 4 yr old MacBookpro to my new macbookpro. Help. I didn't have iCloud or me mobile. I searched apps but can't find anything that addresses this problem. I liked the old mail program and how I could create many files or smart mailboxes. Any ideas would be appreciated. Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you don't have a backup copy of the Domain.sites2 file that iWeb uses to create the site you'll have to start over from scratch. However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing image, audio and/or video files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site.

Macbookpro will not boot 10.6

A user in my company left his MacBookPro in a cab and upon its return will not boot. When you power up the Mac, you get the initial white screen and pinwheel...but it just spins. Nothing else happens. What can i do to resolve the issue. I'm sure I can wipe and reinstall the OSX but was looking for another way if possible.

Insert the original install disk and hold down the "C" key when you initially power up. This will cause the mac to boot from the install disc. When the install screen comes up use the Utility Tools Menu on the Menu Bar. Try running the Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk.
If that doesn't work, you can do an "Archive & Install" that will re-install the operating system without deleting any of your files / programs.

Windows 7 on MacBookPro Lion not starting, it gets to the end of the windows logo then nothing...

I have a problem with getting Bootcamp going on my MacBookPro sometimes. It will get to the end of the winows logo start to show the bllue winows 7 pic and then nothing... I have to re-start several times with the same issue till I get the safe mode dialogue. If I then get into control panel - system and security - check for performance issues it says superfetch is not running and also asks about choosing start up programs sometimes. I can set bootcamp etc to run from the start up program dialogue to resolve that issue but it vstill brings up the super fetch issue as unresolved. Lion will start up ok but not windows. ?This issue only hapens at temporatures of 12 centigrade or lower. Any ideas?

you don't need or have to have superfetch
do you have an SSD?
not sure why but seems like you nailed the issue: cold temp - and disk drive is too cold or not spinning up properly
try booting from Windows DVD and perform any checks and repairs.
schedule or force it to do chkdsk on the partition next time

Linking Keynote on iPod-Touch with Keynote on MacBookPro does not work.

I purchased Keynote 5.0.5(942) for my MacBookPro (MacOS 10.6.7), and
KeynoteRemote 1.2 (53) for my iPod-Touch 4th generation.
I am trying to link KeynoteRemote on the iPodTouch with Keynote on MacBook Pro.
KeynoteRemote gives me a Passcode, which I enter in the preferences panel on Keynote for MacBookPro.
Verification does not work. Nothing happens, and after sometime an error message appears that
verification has failed.
I have tried to do all combinations of setting the firewall on or off, and checked out all linkage and network settings.
Does anybody know what the tricks are to get KeynoteRemote to work with Keynote on MacBookPro?
Or does KeynotePro not work at all?

IPhoto on my MacBookPro does not open - shows a box "Aperture library needs to be upgraded". I do not have Aperture installed and I am not interested to do so.

On my MacBookPro - After updating iPhoto 11 to version 9.3.1, it does not open and shows a box "Aperture library needs to be upgraded" with choices to update or Quit. If I quit it closes iPhoto - if I try to update it goes to the App Store and requires a purchase of Aperture - I do not want to purchase Aperture.

If you tried the First Aid Tools without success, make a backup of the iPhoto Library and rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager as described by Terence Devlin:

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Hello anyone out there who can help. I insert a cd with music into my MacBookPro and it does accept it and it is running, but it does not show any titles. I know that the disc is full, because I have checked it on a PC. can somebody help?

ICal on my MacBookpro does not Sync with my iPad an iPhone

I have installed OS Lion on my MacBookpro. But the MacBook does not syncronize via iCloud with my iPad or my IPhone. iPad and iPhone have also the latesed Software. ICloud is activated.

Make sure Calendars is switched on.

Im running Mt. Lion 10.8 MacBookPro 5.5 Unit is 3 yrs old had original battery in it. Battery was not holding charge longer then a hour or so also receiving message from the battery icon " Replace Now". I ordered the battery Original battery was "A1322 they sent me a A1322 After market replacement. I installed it . I ran the Coconut-battery, Battery charge shows 100%, Battery Capacity 100%. I also got this from Coconut: Mac Model MacbookPro5,5 Age of Mac 35 mouths Bat Load cycle 5 Bat Temp 29.8c .

try a different type of reset - might or might not work but it's worth a shot...

My MacBookPro is not finding external hard drive

My 2TB WD Ultra My Passport external hard drive for Mac stopped showing in the Finder of my MacBookPro (10.9.1), although it does show as "Unmounted" in the Disk Utility. When I hit the "Mount" button, nothing happens. What do I do?

If you intend to clone or install to this drive to make it bootable, you need to format the drive first. Below are directions for formatting:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing an External HDD
• Connect external HDD to computer
• Turn on external HDD
• Start up computer and log in
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and launch DU.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel.
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
For more partitions than one, after you have selected the number of partitions adjust the size of the partition by selecting the top partition and typing in the size; then move down if more adjustments need to be made.
(See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Repeat above procedure to erase each partition
• Quit Disk Utility.
