To move an image behind a part of our "first picture", as if two layers are overlapped !

Hello,
I'm french, and I already posted a question a few times ago, on this forum and I was very satisfied with your quick answers, so I come ask again a little question...
It's about Photoshop CS6 and I would like to know if it's possible to move an image behind a part of our "first picture", as if two layers are overlapped (the first picture and the picture that I add !) and one layer was partially hidden by the first !
It's quite complicated to understand and explain... I know ... and I'm very sorry ...
Example: If I want to move a book behind furniture (which is located in the center of my "background" or "first picture", surrounded by a nonuniform setting !), so to see only part of the book and the other part is hidden by the furniture ! Like the picture below (where we see that the "Coraya" is behind the desk !!) :
I thank you in advance for all your quick responses and I congratulate you in advance to your understanding and your professionalism about Photoshop !
Makarsh

Makarsh,
One easy way to accomplish that look is to add a Layer Mask to the "book" Layer, in the shape of the furniture, that you wish to hide part of the book behind.
That would probably be easier by creating a Selection for that part of the furniture, with the Selection Tool of your choice. I personally like to do such work with the Pen Tool (creates a Path), as it is very exact. However, if one is not comfortable with the Pen Tool and Paths, then the Lasso (perhaps constraining it for straight lines) might be easier. If you do use the Pen Tool, when complete, go to the Paths Panel, and from the little arrow in the top-right, choose Make Selection.
Then, with that Selection still active, go to the book Layer, and click on the Create Layer Mask icon, at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
If necessary, you can do touchup to that Layer Mask, after it has been created.
Good luck, and hope that helps.

  • Move Type without leaving residual type image behind

    In InDesign, like Freehand, I can select a block of type and
    hold the cursor still for a second, then move the text and see it
    while it is moving for better placement visually. The problem is,
    in Freehand, it leaves the original image of the type also in place
    where it was before I started moving it. Is this a feature that can
    be turned on and off, or, is there a way to not leave the residual
    image behind when moving a text block?
    TIA,
    Ken

    By the way, after I complete the move, after releasing the
    cursor, the original block of type disappears, as it should because
    the type block is now moved. I just would like it to never remain
    in the first place.

  • Animated Gif with large base image & small animated part.

    Hello guys
    I'm not really sure how to explain that, due to my limited English comprehansion. I will try with images.
    I can easily create animated gif out of multiple layers, given each layer is identical, with small changes accuring over time.
    But I yet to figure out an animated gif, that uses one large image for the base, and only small part of it is animated.
    I always get the animated part working, without the large base applying across all the frames. All it does, is flashes once
    the frame is reached and then moves on to being transparent, showing only the small animated part.
    For example, this is a GIF made with Galaxy S4, of my friend playing with his phone, imported into PS CS6. On the Galaxy,
    after I record the GIF, I can use my finder to touch, mask and freez parts I don't want to move, and leave only small, animated bit.
    When I import it to PS, it shows one layer with full image, and bunch of frames with the animation part only.

    Problem is, once the image is open with PS, I'm not able to export it to keep it working in the same manner. Given the Samsung's
    gifs are 8 to 10mb, it's hard to edit it, to make it more size friendly.
    The gif clearly works the way I describe, so there is a setting or method I don't know about.
    If PS is not best tool for editing GIF, what other apps would you recommand I use for it?
    Thank you for the taking the time to read
    best regards
    Monica

    This has been an ongoing issue for me since I switched from Powerpoint to Keynote. Most of the animated gifs with transparent backgrounds that I used with Powerpoint are no longer transparent in Keynote. You may want to search for those earlier threads on this topic...
    To summarize: I've had to open up my animated gifs in After Effects and use the Color Key effect to restore transparency, with mixed success.
    Good luck!

  • Move an image in a mask in Keynote '09

    Is it possible to move an image with in a mask using the build in or the action effect? I want the photo to slowly scale up but stay inside the mask.

    Unfortunately, masks are considered part of the image for builds and actions. You would have to construct a graphic with an appropriate "hole" (an old-school mask).

  • How to put image behind text on new pages?

    Hey I usually drag photos into my pages doc and then write text over them by selecting "place object in background" or whatever it was. I do that to make flyers and tourbooks. On the new pages it is not clear to me how to do this.

    Due the rewrite of Pages v5, about 100 features and functionality are missing from the prior release of Pages, the original that now resides in your /Applications/iWork '09 folder. My recommendation is to use the older, but more functional Pages ’09 v4.3.
    If you want text to flow over a background image in Pages v5, do the following:
    Under the Format panel Arrange tab, set Text Wrap to None.
    Drop your image in your document and position it where you want. Even opaquely over existing text.
    Menu > Arrange > Section Masters
    Select Move Object to Section Master
    Make Master Objects Selectable
    Immediately, your image is now in the background with yellow grips, and any existing text is above it. At any time, you can move or resize that image behind the text.
    Still suggest you retreat to the older Pages though.

  • Understanding what it means to move an image off LR3

    I've moved thousands of images off LR3 and off my Macbook.  But previews of those images remain in LR3 even though the underlying image is no longer there.  How do I move the edits and adjustments still appearing in LR3 as a Preview image, off LR3 and off the Mac?  I get a notice the image cannot be exported because it's no longer there.  When I initially moved the images off the Mac, I mistakenly thought I was moving the edits and adjustments too.  But not so.  I was just moving the same original file which came over from my Nikon D90 to LR3 on my Mac, now off the Mac.  How do I connect the edits and adjustments which are as I understand it what LR3 IS, and which appear as the Preview images, to the images that go with those edits and adjustments, that are no longer on my Mac?  Do I import those files again?  Get them hooked up with with the edits and adjustments I earlier made?  And export them again, this time somehow keeping the edits and adjustments together with the underlying image file?  Feeling a tad confused what's going on here.

    LR stores the location of an image file and the adjustments you made to each image.  If you use LR to move the images, then the location within LR is updated to the new location as part of the LR-move operation.  If you use a different method outside of LR to move the images (e.g. Finder or Explorer) then LR has no idea about where the images are.
    LR already knows about the images, it just doesn’t know where they are so you don’t need to reimport them, again.
    To reconnect the adjustments to the image, you need to tell LR where the image(s) moved to.  If you preserved the folder structure as you moved the images then the task is relatively easy, you can just do a right-click on a top-level folder with a question-mark in the lefthand panel in Library and choose Update Folder Location, which lets you tell LR where that folder moved to, and you can do this for each of your top-level folders in LR.  If everything was imported under one top-level folder, then you only need to specify that and all the images under that folder will be updated.  If there are many top-level folders, then you’ll need to specify the new location of each, one-by-one.
    If, however, you moved the images into a different folder structure than when LR last knew about their locations, you’ll need to do the updating at the granularity of the equivalence between the old structure and the new structure.  Worst case, you might have to right-click on each folder or each image and update its location, but hopefully you left the folder structure the same as you moved them off the Mac, and there aren’t that many folders to reconnect.

  • Images Behind Text in RTF Template

    While creating a few rtf templates, I noticed that if an image is to be shown behind text then the image will not render to back to .rtf by bi pub.
    If I put the image inline with text, it renders just fine.
    Am I missing a step that would allow me to render the image behind text or is it just working as intended?

    Thank you.

  • My hard drive is full. How do I move my images to an external drive without 'losing' them in Lightroom?

    I am a recent convert to Lightroom 5. I currently have a single catalog stored on my hard drive. All the images in the catalog (about 20,000) are stored on the same hard drive. This hard drive is now full. I need to move the images to an 2tb external drive but don't want to lose them in Lightroom. (I am keen to keep the catalog on the existing hard drive and back it up to the external hard drive). I have tried to work this out for myself in Adobe help etc but I am uncertain and mildly worried at the prospect of messing this up. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • How can I move an image/file around inside a document with text already in it?

    I'm learning In Design on the job, and it's a real challenge.  One big problem I'm having is, after I've placed an image inside a document with text in it, how do I place it precisely where I want it?  Sometimes I need the image flush to the left, and sometimes I need to center it.  When I place it, it doesn't land where I need it to be.  Things I've tried work sometimes but not other times.  I've tried going to Paragraph and reducing the setting to zero to move an image flush to the left of the text frame/column (I'm working with a three-column page).  Sometimes that works, and sometimes it does not.  When it doesn't, I've tried using the Selection tool to drag the image, but it doesn't respond.  Could someone give me an idea of what I'm overlooking?  I'm finding that InDesign has many settings, and all it takes is for one setting to be what it shouldn't be for things to go badly wrong.  I'm having other issues too, but in this discussion I'll stick to this.

    Sounds like you are anchoring the images in the text flow. That's fine if you need them to move along with text during editing, but is usually not required and often counter productive. If you place your images as separate objects in their own independent frames they can be positioned anywhere and moved at will. If they need to be anchored, consider using Custom Positioned instead of inline.

  • Embedding image in Description part of Appointment

    In my requirement, I have to send an appointment with image as attachment, embedded (in display mode).
    for creating document, I am using CL_DOCUMENT_BCS  class, inside that class  i am using
    CREATE_FROM_MULTIRELATED method for creating the document. In this method we have to pass below object lo_mime_helper. Before passing it, I am filling it with image and appointment.
    For image:
      CALL METHOD lo_mime_helper->add_binary_part
        EXPORTING
          content      = i_graphic_table
          filename     = 'WIPRO.BMP'
          extension    = 'BMP'
          description  = 'descriptiongif'
          content_type = 'image/bmp'
          length       = l_len
          content_id   = 'content_id_1'.
    For appointment
    lv_sr_title = 'Invitaion for the Meeting'.
    clear lt_text.
    create document as an ica l object
      lt_text = lo_appointment->as_ical_object( ).
      CALL FUNCTION 'SO_RAW_INT_TO_RTF'
        TABLES
          objcont_old = lt_text
          objcont_new = lt_text.
      data wa_text like line of lt_text.
      data text_length type i.
      data full_length type i.
      loop at lt_text INTO wa_text.
         text_length = strlen( wa_text ).
         full_length = full_length + text_length.
         clear text_length.
         CLEAR wa_text.
      endloop.
    clear l_len.
    l_len = full_length.
      CALL METHOD lo_mime_helper->add_textual_part
        EXPORTING
          content      = lt_text
          filename     = 'Appointment Meeting'
          extension    = 'ICS'
         description  =
          content_type = 'application/rtf'
          LENGTH       = l_len
          content_id   = 'content_id_2'
    Now I am passing lo_mime_helper to methofd for creating document
       TRY.
          CALL METHOD cl_document_bcs=>create_from_multirelated
            EXPORTING
              i_subject          = 'my subject'
              i_multirel_service = lo_mime_helper
            RECEIVING
              result             = document.
        CATCH cx_document_bcs .
          MESSAGE e672(so) WITH 'bcs error while creating bcs_doc'.
          EXIT.
        CATCH cx_bcom_mime .
          MESSAGE e672(so) WITH 'mime error while creating bcs_doc'.
          EXIT.
      ENDTRY.
    THis is sending a mail, but both image and appointment are going as attachment, even when I am setting Disposition type as I(Inline) in debugger. I want it to go as appointment with image embedded in body part.
    When I am using CL_APPOINTMENT class, its going as appointment perfectly, but how to embedd a image in body part then.

    Well, RAID-1 isn't quite the same as a backup, but it is close.
    Personally I would (and do) have my C: drive just be for the OS. And
    my pictures/catalogs are on separate RAID-1 drive(s).
    So,, How do I move the images over and keep everything intact?
    Depends. If you start LR, and open your old catalog, all your photos
    will be missing (have the "?" on them, since the location changed).
    You'd have to right-click on the "?", and "Locate" the files, in their
    new location.

  • Cannot move some images in iPhoto to desktop

    I cannot move an image from iPhoto to my desktop.  Also, when I click on the image in iPhoto to enlarge it, I get an exclamation point.  When the image is small size in iphoto, I can see it.  But if I click on it to enlarge it in iphoto, I get the exclamation point.  Don't know why this is happening?  I have Iphoto 09, version 8.1.2 (424)  My goal:  Be able to move any image in iphoto to my desktop and not get the exclamation point anymore.

    The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the link to the original image - and that's why you can move it to the desktop.
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
