To people accessing Hotmail on their iPhone using POP3

Do you consistently get an audio alert when new email arrives?
My yahoo account always notifies me, very rarely on new email arrival to my Hotmail account do I get an audio notification - I do get the visual notification (i.e. number overlaying the email icon)
I'm trying to determine how widespread this is - I've already changed my phone once, Apple Support say noone else has registered this problem. I'm trying to narrow down what may cause it.

In answer to the above.
1. I'm not using Izzymail.
2. I have a paid Hotmail plus account which supports POP3.
3. Incoming servier is pop3.live.com and outgoing smtp.live.com
My issue is that I do not receive the audio alert (and vibrate) when the iPhone receives new mail coming into a POP3 account.
I've tried every combination of creating the accounts manually, syncing, creating them in a different order; setting different accounts as the default, etc.
I have 3 email accounts; Yahoo which works fine; and two POP3 accounts one of which is Hotmail and both these account suffer the problem.
I've exchanged the phone twice now and I didn't think it was hardware anyway so was looking for confirmation that other people also have this 'bug' with POP3 accounts so I can address it with Apple as a software problem.

  • Accessing HOTMAIL from my IPHONE.

There has been a problem with accessing hotmail in the last few days.  I'm seeing that as of today, the problem is supposed to be fixed, (says that on Microsofts website) but i STILL cannot access hotmail from my iphone!  HELP!

It appears Hotmail is having issues with mobile access to their servers:
"Hotmail is working for all web users and POP-based accounts. Some mobile device users relying on EAS (Active Sync) may see problems accessing their email, calendar and contacts. We are working to restore their access."
"Fixing the problem is taking longer than we hoped. We'll provide an update by Jan 11 12:00 PM. We apologize for the lengthy interruption in service. Jan 10 12:05 PM"

  • Is anyone having problems accessing WIFI with their iPhone

Just noticed that yesterday I can't access WIFI with my iPhone 5s.  Happened at my office and at home.  WIFI works both places as Macbook works.  Anyone else finding this ?

I don't wnat you to have any issues with your device, tracybayne! Let's get to work to make sure we get you up and running. Have you been able to try to reset the network settings in your phone? The best way to do that is to go into Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. The phone will power cycle and then you will need to re-type in all the wi-fi passwords again. Once that is done, please re-test it out. Keep us posted.

  • Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Yes. My wife and I each have our own Apple ID and used the same computer to sync our phones with iTunes. The best way to do this is set up separate user accounts on the computer. If you are logged in to your account on the computer and your wife wants to sync here phone, you would log out and she would log in. These keeps all your stuff separate and avoids a ton of confusion.

  • How can I use my hotmail on an Iphone

What kind of system is hotmail is it an IMAP? I'm using my hotmail the most so I would like to know how can I use hotmail on an Iphone.

MS does not use an industry standard email account protocol (IMAP or POP) for accessing a free Hotmail account with a non-MS email client. You can access a paid or Hotmail Plus account ($20/yr) as a POP account with the iPhone's email client and the same with any other email client on any platform - Mac or Windows PC.

  • If Iq backup my iPhone using my icloud can someone else using the same Apple ID as me back up their iPhone to icloud?

If Iq backup my iPhone using my icloud can someone else using the same Apple ID as me back up their iPhone to icloud?

If they sign into your iCloud account with your ID, their iCloud backup would then be in your account.   However, they would also be sharing your iCloud account and any data they sync with the account (contacts, calendars, etc.) will be merged with yours and the merged list will appear on both phones.  They would also be able to access your email account and their photo stream photos would be merged with yours (as you would be sharing the same photo stream).  Furthermore, if they are using iOS 7 and turn on Find My iPhone while signed into your account, their phone will require your iCloud ID and password in order to be turn off Find My iPhone, sign out of iCloud or erase and reactivate their phone.
Unless you wish to share all this data, and have the other person's data merged with yours you should do this.  (iCloud accounts are really designed to be used by a single person.)

  • HT201272 If I create separate Apple IDs for my children, will they still be able to access content I have purchased on their iPhones and iPads?

If I create separate Apple IDs for my children, will they still be able to access content I have purchased on their iPhones and iPads?

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.
    Apologies for the lengthy response..

  • Has anyone used MC Helper to reset hotmail on their Mac?

Has anyone used MC Helper to reset hotmail on their Mac. I just did and I'm am worried as I gave them access to my computer over the phone. They have solved access to my hotmail account though, but they charged $200 for it plus a years free support. I was very suspicious but in the end went ahead. I now fear that they may be a scam of sorts. They could have implanted or encrypted something on my mac. Is this likely? Does anyone know? I'd be most grateful.

LogMeIn Rescue is for one time support. This is a common tool used to support users. Microsoft uses it when they do support. I use one of the LogMeIn products myself when working with clients.
In the future if you need help with a Microsoft product you can get free help on the Microsoft forums.

I guess if you travel the iPhone is not the device to buy.
And which device to buy for travel? As far as I know other smartphone platforms even don't have an update facility like AppStore. And by the way what are your criteria for the perfect travel phone? I would place being able to use it in other countries (world phone), having easy access to internet and email and ability to remotely sync Contacts and Calendar on top of my list. All of which iPhone is capable like few other phones.
I'm sorry, John, but your statement seems like utter nonsense and is misleading for others. First being able to update apps doesn't cross my mind as a main functionality for travel. Second I was just travelling to SC and easily installed a new app from iPhone and updated an existing one. In your case I believe there's a mishap with AppStore. Probably you have a false update notification. Just compare versions of the apps you have with the versions of the same apps AppStore shows. I bet version are same. That's why it doesn't let you install.
If you want to sync your iPhone Contacts and Calendar (which seems more like a genuine travel requirement) you can do it via MobileMe or Yahoo and few other similar web services.

    @Satterp
Not sure if you were responding to me or OP - my iPhone is on 5.1.  The OP at the time of writing was on 5.0.1.
Also, the OP and I had setup our Hotmail as an Exchange server (similar to IMAP), not POP3.

  • Cannot access iTunes on iPhone using open Wireless network at Panerra Bread

I cannot accees itunes from my 4G iphone using the Panerra Bread wireless network. I get error message: "Cannot Connect to iTunes Store". I have strong (all bars)signal on iphone for airport/wireless icon.
    Please advise.

Panera Bread requires customers to agree to its wifi terms of service before being able to use their internet access.
You do this by opening MobileSafari and accessing a webpage. The router in the Panera store will divert your request for that webpage and take you to a Panera webpage where you can read and agree to the terms of service.
Once you do that you can access email, iTunes wifi store, and any other webpage.

  • Using Hotmail on the iphone

I have problem activating my hotmail account as the primary acct. Everything else works on my phone except for the mail. I am not so sure if the phone is faulty or if i am doing something wrong
    Can someone help me out.
    iphone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Actually, the best way to access Hotmail accounts is via web. use safari to go to mail.live.com...you have to use it just as you would on your computer, but at least you don't have to have mail forwards all over the place...
BTW - I love it when it says "sent from my iPhone" on each email account I send out from yahoo

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The picture sycn is one way - computer to iphone.  The photos are also reduced in size when synced to iphone so they are not of the original quality
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup of your computer.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good at all, you can e-mail the pics to yourself - keep in mind they will never be of the original quality

Did you set up restrictions for changing account info in Settings/General/Restrictions? If yes, disable them and try again to edit your mail account info.
