To remove all personal information from an iPhone I am about to dispose of, is it sufficient to use the "erase and reset" command in Settings, or should I do something more?

I am about to replace an iPhone 4.  I want to make sure that it contains no recoverable personal information, such a contacts, photos, e-mail, etc.  If I use the erase and reset function in Settings will that be sufficient?  Or is there a way to write over the old information in a manner similar to a "secure empty trash?"

  • Removing all personal information from e-Mac.

I have just purchased a new i-Mac and whilst I have no problem in transfering all of my stored information from the e-Mac to the i-Mac I am concerned about erasing every bit of personal information from the machine, from e-mail access information to any passwords stored on the machine. How can I be sure that this is all done yet have a saleable e-Mac with all of it's software intact?

The easiest way is to put a new installation of your OS onto the Mac.
Insert your Install disk 1 into to the drive and then Restart, and hold down the C key to take you to the installation windows.
Select your language, the start up Volume and choose Erase and Install.
At the point your registration process starts, abandon the registration, quit and eject the disk and switch of the computer.
This will allow the new user a freshly installed system, whereby they can complete the registration process themselves. Make sure you hand on the disks.
If you want to be extra thorough, you can, booted from your Install disk, use Disk Utility to Zero All Data, before doing the Erase and Install described above, and if you want to be paranoid thorough, you can choose to overwrite the disk with several passes before doing the installation described first. Note this latter process can take from several hours to several days depending on the selection and the size of your internal hard drive.

  • Removal all personal information from macbook before sending to reseller

I want to purchase a new macbook and would like to send my 2008 in for resale but I would like to insure there is no personal information remaining.  How is this accomplished?

You should use the original install disks that came with the computer to erase the disk and reinstall the system and bring it back to 'Out of the box' condition (i.e. as it was when it was purchased). You don't have the right to include any software you added later as this is licenced to you. You should also include the disks when selling it as the new owner will need them if he runs into a need to reinstall.
To erase the disk, insert the install disk (or the first one if there is more than one) and reboot holding the 'C' key down. When it's loaded, don't start an install but from the 'Utilities' menu choose 'Disk Utility'. Select the internal disk in the list on the left and then click 'Erase'. Name the disk 'Macintosh HD' and set the 'Format' drop-down menu to 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.
When the erasure has taken place quit Disk Utility and proceed with the installation

  • How to remove all personal information for your blackberry?

I am currently an Altel subscriber, whom is being switched to AT&T.  I would like to sell or donate my current blackberry 9630 as it is in new condition.  How do I ensure all my data has been removed and it is safe to do so?  I checked online and it says to replace your SIMS card, but with what?  Wouldn't it have to be carrier specific?  But then if I put in an AT&T Sims it would not work, would it?  As they are saying we have to have new phones?  Please advise.  As you can tell I know little on this except I love my phone

    Hello jodeebryant,
In order to remove all personal information from the BlackBerry you are first going to want to ensure the memory card and SIM card have both been removed. Whoever you sell it to will need neither for the BlackBerry to function or can get their own.
Secondly, you are going to want to do a Security Wipe to the BlackBerry. Do this by going to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe. Before you do this ensure you have either done a backup on BlackBerry Desktop Manager or do not want ANY information that is stored on the BlackBerry.
    Goodluck and hope this helps,

I have got an iphone 4s and to add some songs to the music library i have to remove all my music from my iphone and then sync it all again to just add some new songs, it requires a lot of time, can somebody help me!??

    Hey baby birch
You are able to sync purchased content from your iDevice to a new computer as long as the comptuer is authorized
To authorize the computer follow these steps
At the topi of the screen next to File- Edit -View, click store then Authorize this computer.
Enter in your appleID email address and password and click authorize
**If you do not see the File Edit View option, At the very top left corner you should see a little square click the square and click show menu bar.
Now that your computer is authorized click the file menu button, then click Devices, then go to your iPhones name and then click Transfer purchases this will allow you to transfer all of your purchased content to the computer
Now if you want to transfer your non purchased content to the computer you can do so if you have wif and the previous computer on the same network as the new computer with home sharing

  • Erasing all personal information from old phone (got a replacement)

My camera button fell off my Droid X so they sent a replacement. First of all the guy at Verizon was wrong because "everything including by personal backgrounds and ringtones" did not switch over, just my contacts.
But my main concern is following the instruction to "erase all personal information from the old phone". I looked at the security options and settings and I don't see where this is possible.
I'd rather speed this up since they say they will bill me for the full retail price of the phone if it's not sent back in 10 days.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Calendar schedule blank. All appts disappeared from 3g iphone calendar synced to yahoo. After Yahoo corrected error message on their website and I re-synced my iphone, calendar reappears but will not allow edit from iphone. I can't find settings within Yahoo or within my iphone to alter editing options.
How can I get access to edit and delete the Yahoo calendar from my iphone? I never schedule anything from the Yahoo webpage. All my appointments and reminders are scheduled from the iphone.
    iOS 4.2.1 (8C148a)

My Yahoo email account worked just fine on my iPhone 4S  for the last 2 months. Then this morning I started receiving the apple.imap.mail,yahoo error.  I tried all of the steps above in solving the yahoo email issue including numerous hard re-sets and deletions of my yahoo account settings without any success. So I gave up trying to use the default Yahoo setup option.  I added my Yahoo account back as an "other" type email account and then had the option to choose to set it up as a "POP" account instead of an IMAP type. I then just used the server settings recommended from Yahoo Help for a Yahoo Plus Email POP (or just google yahoo plus email pop settings). This works and I am back in business.
I'm not sure if this will work for yahoo mail classic accounts.
Frustrating that this issue seems to have been going on for quite awhile and Apple still as not made any acknowledgement of this issue or proposed a fix for those of us that can not resolve the issue with a reset.

  • How do you remove all personal info from a notebook when getting it ready for the recycle program?

I havae purchased a new notebook and am getting my old MacBook Pro ready to submit to the recycle program at Apple. The list of "to-do's" asks that you remove all your personal info and take the notebook back to it's original settings. Does ayone have any advise on how to do this?

Boot from the original OS installer disk and do an Erase & Install.
When the Mac reboots into Mac Setup Assistant you quit and shut it down.
It's now a brand new Mac... just like when you got it.

  • How do I remove my personal information from my old iPod touch?

Hello everyone.  I am looking at buying a fifth generation iPod Touch and my father gave me the idea of giving him my third generation iPod Touch.  How do I go about removing my personal data, including my Apple ID from the device?  When I get the new iPod, I want to have my existing Apple ID set up on the new device.  Will my father be able to add an Apple ID to my third generation iPod Touch once he has created his own Apple account?

  • HT1918 How do I remove my card information from my iPhone 5

I'm trying to remove a credit card from my iTunes but don't know how to do it from my phone

You don't need to worry about being charged for app updates.  You have to explicitly agree to any charges on your iTunes store account by tapping a "Buy" prompt if a charge is required.  Apple requires that your have a credit card on file in order to update purchased apps.  (Among other things, Apple uses the billing address associated with your credit card to validate that you reside in the same country as the iTunes store that your device is signed into when you make purchases or perform updates.)

  • The App Store asks to "verify" my personal information, For my name, state, credit card, etc. I don't even live in the US and I don't have a CC, nor do I want to give away my personal information. I just want to download free apps. Any work-arounds?

    Title says it all.
I'm really getting sick of websites getting more and more into your business. Google forcing you to get a G+ account and asking for your identifying information, for example (like your phone number).
It's extremely irritating, and I'm opting out of everything that enforces the such. If Apple begins pushing like this, I will just close my relationship with the company and obtain apps by using third-party software to force them onto the phone.
But before going that far, I'd like to find work arounds.
First of all, I don't even know why it asks me for my "state". I don't even live in the USA anymore, as I moved to China (though I won't use the Chinese store as I don't speak or understand the local language, which is Chinese).
All I want... is to continue using the English App Store to get free apps from here in my home in China, without getting stopped by Apple asking for more info on me. I don't want to share my name, I don't want to share my address, and I can't even complete the form as I no longer have a "state" and don't have any credit info.
So that's just that. If there's no way around it I'll find another way to install apps without the App Store.
Sorry for the message tone, I'm just really irritated with the way the internet is getting.
    Thanks in advance!
    - Alex

The living issue is complex in my case. Legally speaking, I have no personal residence globally. I just live wherever my father goes, which is everywhere. I'm an expat and it seems that these sites aren't really expat-friendly. They seem to be built for localization and assume everyone stays in the same place.
I don't know what I'd be considered. I'm a US passport holder and live in China, but I only speak some Chinese and I can't read it (it using non-latin characters is just too much for my mind's memory to handle). Besides that, I'm not interested in popular Chinese apps. They tend to just be annoying and kooky and generic and put together badly, often full adware and spyware (speaking for most Chinese software, in fact). In fact, a lot of apps I want are illegal in China (YouTube, Facebook, etc) and I use a VPN to use the services. I assume I wouldn't find these apps on the Chinese store. In fact, last I checked, there wasn't many English apps on the Chinese app store. This is probably due to their strict moderation or something.
I've been going to international schools since I got here and college would be in English too. I can speak some Chinese, but not read it.
Well, I guess the answer is that I can't use the App Store in English. So I guess I'll just sign out everything on my phone involving my Apple account and just start using third-party tools to do my business.

  • Hi, recently my iphone 4 has been removing all my emails from my Outlook email. I see them, read them, then when i open the folder again they have gone! Is this something to do with icloud?

    Hi,
My iphone 4 has 2 email accounts. Gmail and Outlook. I receive and send messages from both. Gmail is default.
Recently my Outlook messages have started to disappear once they have been read. They then appear on my business PC. This is not helpful if I am in Sydney Australia and my PC is in Europe.. How do I stop this from happening please?
    Regards
    AP

Aprp44, the easiest thing you could do, is delete your outlook mail, and readd it. That will usually take care of almost any issue you're having.
