To run a mapping using owb 10g expert

Hi All,
My requirement is to run the mapping in OWB using an expert.I created an expert using OWB and associated the mapping with the expert using Add/Remove expert option.I validated and generated the expert.But when i run the expert through start option in design center then my target table in the mapping does not get loaded.This shows that i am unable to associate my expert with mapping.
In expert editor, i linked start_task with custom_dialog_task which is again linked with the end_task.It seems i am missing some steps.Please let me know what all steps need to be followed in expert editor interface to run the mapping.Response is awaited.
Thanks

You're better off asking that question in the [OWB forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=57].

  • Star Schema Using OWB 10g

    Hello,
    I would like to know whether is it possible to build a star schema using Oracle OWB 10g?
    If so how could I do build one? Any help is highly appreciable.
    Regards

    Hi ,
    You can use Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler .
    SQL Developer Data Modeler provides a full spectrum of data and database modeling tools and utilities, including modeling for Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD), Relational (database design), Data Type and Multi-dimensional modeling, full forward and reverse engineering and DDL code generation. The Data Modeler imports from and exports to a variety of sources and targets, provides a variety of formatting options and validates the models through a predefined set of design rules.
    Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler can connect to any supported Oracle Database and is platform independent

  • How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?

    How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?
    We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
    I reviewed user guide. It have little info on expert of OWB 10g.
    I like to know/learn more about it.
    Do we have cookbook type of docs?
    How did our forum members learn about owb 10g expert?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Here are various bits and pieces that should get you started, I'll see if there is a cookbook, I know we have an internal one.
    There is an introduction paper here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/pdf/Oracle%20Warehouse%20Builder%2010gR2%20What%20is%20an%20Expert.pdf
    There are examples on the utility exchange, probably a reasonable one that uses the built in components is the data mover expert;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
    There are other interesting examples, such as the create dimension from expert that helps building a dimensional structure and maps. For this one I added simple java procedures for a shuttle dialog and a data entry table that allow different information to be captured.
    See the create dimension from expert here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
    Another example on accelerating map construction is the SQL to map accelerator which uses the OWB custom dialog to get information, and can be found at the blog post http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/newsItems/viewFullItem$198
    You can edit these experts and see the code, the data mover expert has much less code and just glues together pieces of the OWB UI components into a task list that is more specific for the user. The create dimension expert is much more tcl oriented but really simplifies the task at hand.
    Cheers

  • OWB 10g: how control files are generated?

    We are using OWB 10g within a 10g Database. We want to know how control files are generated by OWB in the file system. The reason we need to know is because our DBAs do not want to create directory objects pointing to NAS devices, their policy states that all directory objects should be on SAN shares. We rather use NAS shares since it simplifies our batch (too long to explain here). OWB has the "CREATE ANY DIRECTORY" privilege granted. Is it using this privilege to create a directory object for the path we specify the control file in the mapping or is it writing directly to this path? We checked the directory objects created (SELECT * FROM DBA_DIRECTORIES) after deploying a control file and it didn't seem to have created any new ones. Anyone knows how OWB creates these control files?

    Yes, indeed that's what we were after. We basically wanted to be sure we are not breaking an internal policy that says that "Oracle directory objects can not be located on NAS shares". The reasoning behind this policy is that NAS shares are not deemed highly available or high I/O devices hence our Oracle DBAs will not allow us to create any Oracle directory objects in NAS shares. The policy states that all database data should be stored in SAN shares which are directly attached to the servers and are therefore high I/O devices. It is arguable if the OWB data we want to load is really part of a database, we believe it is not. There are other implications in our environment about using NAS instead of SAN (NAS can run in active-active mode across different data centres, whereas SAN requires replication since it doesn't usually work well in an active-active mode across different data centres). So based on your answer we should be fine since OWB reads and writes directly to the files without using Oracle Directory Objects which supports our theory that these are not DB specific files and are only "OWB App" files which can then sit on a NAS without breaking the above stated policy.

  • OWB 10G R2 with 9.2 DB....

    At my company the standard for databases is still 9.2. Since this is a large organization, we are a little slow to adopt the latest versions (we are still running OWB 9.2.0.8).
    According to the FAQ, Design repositories for OWB 10g R2 can be setup on a 9.2 DB.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/owb_10gr2_faq.html#37
    In the FAQ, it also says to look at the Certify page in Metalink to see what databases are supported by OWB 10g R2:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/owb_10gr2_faq.html#35
    In the Certify page, only 10g R2 DB appears to be certified for OWB 10g R2.
    Is anyone running OWB 10g R2 with 9.2 DB (for both Design and Runtime environments)? Any problems with this setup?
    Since OWB 10g R2 is a new release, could it be certified for 9.2 DB later?
    Since it is not certified for 9.2 DB, will Oracle give support if we run into problems?
    I thought one of the major advantages of OWB was suppose to be compatibility between database versions. I was surprised not to see that 9.2 was not certified.

    Hi,
    You can have OWB 10G R2 on Oracle 9.2.
    We are using OWB 10G R2 on Oracle 9.2.
    I have done instalation on both Windows and Unix environment.
    What you need is patch 9.2.0.6.0

  • Owb 10g R2

    I’m new to owb and I’m using owb 10g R2. I need to create a map to return a set of values based on the latest process’s date.
    The map reads data from a view source and then using sorter operation to sort data by ORDER_NUMBER, DATE_PROCESS, ORDER_STATUS asc
    ORDER_NUMBER     DATE_PROCESS     ORDER_STATUS
    A00378091          06/23/2011               1
    A00378091          06/25/2011               3
    A00378091          07/15/2011               5
    A00447816          05/17/2011               3
    A00447816          05/20/2011               5
    A00447816          06/25/2011               4
    I use the aggregator group by order_number to get the max(date_process) but I don’t know how to get a value of order_status.
    How do I crate a map to return the value as
    A00378091          07/15/2011               5
    A00447816          06/25/2011               4
    I very appreciate your help, thanks.

    Thanks Igor. I still don’t know how to do it. I’m sorry that I’m not clear that the set of data are not in a table yet.
    The following is a list of steps in the map.
    1. Read data from view (~ 900,000 rows)
    2. Sort data using sorter operation.
    Sorter operation ORDER_NUMBER, DATE_PROCESS, ORDER_STATUS asc (data are not in a table)
    A00378091      06/23/2011      1
    A00378091      06/25/2011      3
    A00378091      07/15/2011      5
    A00447816      05/17/2011      3
    A00447816      05/20/2011      5
    A00447816      06/25/2011      4
    3. Aggregator group by order_number to get the max(date_process). I don’t know what expression on mrp_order_status to get the latest value based on max(date_process). I can’t use min/max(order_status) because it gave me a wrong order_status’s value
    4. table (loading type Update/Insert)
    order_number is a key on a table and I need to get the latest data of date_process and order_status from the sorter (or aggregator) to update/insert into a table. So the data in a table will contain
    A00378091      07/15/2011      5
    A00447816      06/25/2011      4
    I never use table operator, I try to find the site so I can learn more about it. Would you please explain step by step? I very appreciate your help.

    Hi All,
    We are using OWB 10g Release 1.
    We are planning to create a production environment, where we will only deploy the code generated by OWB. But, the mappings(packages) that are generated using OWB , use some audit tables. So , we are wondering if we have to install OWB in production environment also.
    Anybody who is having idea abt this , please reply
    Thanks in Advance

    No; you CAN have only one design repository and in this, as many runtime connections as you would like: (development, test, education,pre-production, production etc). This might go against good application development practice, but it is possible, and can be perfectly ok in smaller warehouse projects with few developers. And thenyou don't have to go through the hazzle of moving metadata between repositories, in the correct order. One advice though: Have different passwords for the runtime connections, so you don't connect to the wrong runtime environment by mistake ;-)

  • ODBC Connectivity in OWB 10g

    Hi,
    I have one of my data source as AS400. I have setup a DSN to connect to this data source. I want to know how I can connect using OWB 10g to the AS400 data source using this DSN.
    Is there any other way that I could connect to the AS400 data source using OWB 10g without using any additional drivers which involve a cost :-) ?
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Harshad Borgaonkar

    Hi Harshad,
    You can do this with the heterogeneous services.
    http://www.datadirect.com/developer/odbc/oracle_heterogeneous/index.ssp
    has a good description of what to do.
    You'll have to setup the heterogeneous service on an Oracle database on the same platform for which you have ODBC drivers for, presumably Windows.
    You should then be able to connect to this database in OWB and create a connection under Databases -> Other -> ODBC or Other.
    Cheers,
    Colin

  • OWB 10g/11g version control

    I am using OWB 10g release 2 but there is no feature for version control. The snapshot feature and export/import can help but Its very difficult with big project.
    Is there any new feature with OWB 11g release 1 or 2 for version control ? Do you have any proposition for version control in 10g ?

    Hi Robin,
    In the repository there can be only one version at the moment. If you have to work on an older release, you have to load it into another repository.
    We proceed as follows:
    1. Build a collection containing all objects that belong to the release
    2. Export that collection
    3. Check the file into CVS
    4. Import the file into production repository (in production db)
    5. Deploy from the production repository to the production target schema
    That way the release that is currently deployed on production is also in the production repository. You may do hotfixes directly here or just have a look at what is currently deployed.
    In our development repository we can work on new features.
    I gave a talk about automating this process on DOAG 2008. You may request the presentation here [http://www.metafinanz.de/leistungen/leistungsbereiche/bi-reporting/data-warehousing/kontaktformular/|http://www.metafinanz.de/leistungen/leistungsbereiche/bi-reporting/data-warehousing/kontaktformular/]
    Though the slides are in german they show the architecture and should give you some idea.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

  • How to run a PLSQL mapping without using OWB Interface

    Hi there, does anybody know how to call a PL/SQL mapping <mapname.main> function without using OWB interface. We will have to create some other mechanism to call those generated mappings....
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Marcelo ,
    You can use the following code at the sql prompt to the run the mapping .
    DECLARE
    RetVal NUMBER;
    P_ENV WB_RT_MAPAUDIT.WB_RT_NAME_VALUES;
    BEGIN
    RetVal := <Mapping Name>.MAIN(P_ENV) ;
    COMMIT;
    END;

  • Function usage in OWB 10g Mapping

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie of OWB 10g.
    I do have in flat file (.csv) a column with value as "ABC 1.2", "ABC 2.0", "XYZ 2.1", "XYZ 3.0" etc.
    I wanted this value to placed to the oracle database table as such & as truncated value as "ABC" for both version of ABC & as "XYZ" for versions of XYZ.
    I have mapped in the mapping editor where the database table has 2 columns. One to place the data from flat file as such & the other column to be the truncated or transformed value.
    I have mapped from flat file to the first column as such & for the value to the second column i do have a function which does the process of transformation.
    I validated, Generated, Deployed & all are successful. On execution of the deployed mapping
    I face a problem as :
    Record 7: Rejected - Error on table "username"."tablename", column "second column name".
    Column not found before end of logical record (use TRAILING NULLCOLS)
    Since i have 256 records, to all those i do face the same situation for all records.
    Plz do enlighten me how to go about to place the data from flat file to the database table column as the same value & the transformed value in another column in database table.
    Thx in Advance.

    Patrick is correct. i have earlier assumed you had the procedure created and was just attempting to executing a mapping from it.
    by the way, the "instruction" to use this script is embedded in the run_my_owb_stuff.sql file itself (i will cut and paste it here)
    [BEGIN EXTRACT]
    How to use install and use function:
    - Logon to runtime repository owner and run this script. This creates a function run_my_owb_stuff
    - grant execute to run_my_owb_stuff to <runtime access user>
    - connect as runtime access user and run something along the lines of:
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('result '
    || to_char(<runtime repository owner>.run_my_owb_stuff( '<runtime repository owner>'
    , '<target location>'
    , '<type: PLSQL, PROCESS or SQL_LOADER>'
    , '<mapping or process name>'
    , '<system parameters>'
    , '<custom parameters>'
    end ;
    Because of the defaults you can leave any input parameters into
    run_my_owb_stuff empty, such as p_system_parameters and
    p_custom_parameters. For an implementation, consider changing the
    defaults (such as p_repos_owner) to make live easier. Also, consider
    taking out the dbms_output.put_line messages in a production situation.
    To run this script, a user has to have been granted roles WB_R_<runtime
    repos owner> and WB_U_<runtime repos owner>. The runtime access user
    will have these roles granted.

  • I need to run a map against a particular dataset  - how can i do it in OWB

    Hello again :)
    I need to run a map against table on a particular dataset (WHERE clause) - how can i do it in OWB?
    The map is loading data from table A into table B (doing all sorts of wierd and wonderful things in between). Now table A had more (a lot more) data added which i have to load into table B.
    How can i modify my map so that it only runs agains this newly added data (normally i would do a where clause).
    i cannot find how to do it in OWB :(
    The map i am runnig is fairy complex so i didn't really want have to create another table/view of the data i need then remap in all etc.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you very much
    Kind Regards
    Vix

    Hello AP
    Well that is the thing - records are constantly added to table A all the time and then undergo tramsformations and loaded into table B. What i want to do is somehow indicate in the the map to only run agains records that have beed added (colmn2 = 'value').
    At the moment i created a view for the desired dataset (colm2 = 'value') and remapped everything. But it is a bit of a pain:
    1) there are a lot of functions and each takes a number of columns (i have some functions taking up to 6 diff columns)
    2) i have data loaded to table A all the time and i need to then transform and load it to table B. so i try to aviod doing the whole re-mapping thing all the time.
    In TOAD it would be a simple statment 'where colm2 = 'value' and all my functions will be run agains those records that satisfy the condition. How can i do it in OWB?
    If i use filter - i would have to use 'mid' table where filtered records will be loaded and from that use 'mid' table as table A in the map. does this make sense?
    the main disadvantage is the performance - moving data from one table to 'mid' table etc.
    I tried using conditional load filter and it still doesn't do what i want.
    After trying diff options i decided to ask people here about it. The only thing i have left to try is to ask Oracle support. I am sure it would be a 'user knowledge' as i am sure this functionality exist i just can't find any references to it.
    Thank you very much for all your help. In fact this forum helped me a lot with a number of other issues :)
    i just feel like a lemon coz it is very simple thing and i can't find how to do it...
    Kind Regards
