To stop instances at standby
My oracle version is 11.2.0.2 RAC RDBMS on RHEL 5.6.
At my standby site my physical standby database is on 4 node cluster with all 4 instances up. I need to disable 3,4 instances so that we want it to run on only 1,2 instances.To disable the instances do i need to stop apply(mrp) process. And the apply node is node 1.
ok thank you...
I am confused...I know we need to stop mrp(recovery) process if we need to shutdown the databse.
Now in my case i am not shuting down the databse,instead i want to disable the instance, for that i need to stop the instance(in my case instance 3,4) and next using srvctl disable the instance, so that after disable i am planning to have standby database only with 2 instances althought it is 4 node RAC.
In my case do i need to stop the mrp,to disable the instance, and if yes why? My thought is since my apply instance is 1, why do i need to stop mrp that is running in other instance,1, where i am disable 3,4?

Stop/start logical standby db
Version 10203 on AIX
Have to stop/start logical standby db, new to data guard, Please confirm these are the steps to do that
on primary db
SQL > alter system switch logfile ;
SQL > alter system archive log current ; ( to make sure current transactions come thru)
check tail of alert log of standby to make sure these redologs shipped & mined
standby db
SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY; (stop SQL Apply)
SQL> shutdown immediate;
Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remrpt-haprimary db
SQL > shutdown immediate ;
Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remprd-ha
Dont shutdown abort for any case, if both dbs are going down, first stop SQL apply on standby, take primary down and then take standby down)
Startup
primary
SQL>startup;
Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remprd-ha
Standby
SQL > startup
SQL > alter database start logical standby apply immediate ;
Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remrpt-haHi
As you posted ,you are using Real Time Sql apply,So,it is LGWR who transfer changes to standby site.It is very safe to follow these steps for new user.
1.Stop logical standby apply(Standby Database).
2.Shutdown Primary Database.
3.Shutdown logical standby Database.
At startup
1.Start Logical Standby Database.
2.Start Primary Database.
3.Start logical standby apply.
At the case when primary database is taking long time to shutdown processed ,You can also use
shutdown abort,but before doing abort be sure you have stop logical standby apply.When your primary database started,it automatically perform instance recovery.Primary site have to resolve gap in this case.
At the case when you must have to perform shutdown abort at primary database,you can do it.By doing it you will not loose anything.Primary database has to resolve gap and it will take time to be consistent with primary site.

CREATING A SINGLE INSTANCE PHYSICAL STANDBY FOR A RAC PRIMARY

Any help on this.
Regards
SatishThe problem here is probably with your standby init.ora file.
When you create a standby database, the db_name parameter must NOT change. It has to match the primary database. So in your case, db_name ='PROD' and your db_unique_name='DPROD'...

Can I mount another instance of standby database
1. If I have a RAC physical standby database and instance 1 is mounted and is applying redo, can i mount second instance if I wish for example to perform a backup using rman?
2. If instance 1 is mounted and applying redo can I stop it and start instance 2 and continue to apply redo??
Thank you.
Regards.
Cristina.1. If I have a RAC physical standby database and instance 1 is mounted and is applying redo, can i mount second instance if I wish for example to perform a backup using rman?Yes as Emre mentioned, you can mount all of the instances in cluster.
2. If instance 1 is mounted and applying redo can I stop it and start instance 2 and continue to apply redo??Redo apply will active only on one node, remaining standby instances will be idle
So you can start recovery any instance where you wish. -
Just how do i stop this autostandby feature. It was not on my previous ff. Or maybe not set. I need to know how to swithc it off and cannot find a lead in the index or even a list of all the items in the index to help track it. I am working on something and leave to do something else and then come back and it is all on standby. Since Having the ff4 craashes a lot and infact does all sorts of aberrant th ings. Then I have to shut down (slow once crashed) and reboot. So many problems that I am threatening to give up the computer. It is wasting so much time. It never has before.
I want to put in my 2 cents as well in hopes that Apple will start to notice this based on the number of people that are posting the problem. I am having the same problem, which I will describe as well as to what I have seen. I have iTunes open already and insert an audio CD. It appears briefly on the desktop as "Audio CD" and then iTunes accesses information on the CD from the web. It then looses the information and the disk and the CD unmounts completely in the finder. I am certain of the timing, as one CD I inserted had multiple different possible matches found and when I chose one, it unmounted as soon as I chose the right item from the the dialog box. It happens sporadically with no pattern that I can see. Some disks work and others do not. I have been keeping Disk Utility open and when it happens, I just click on the CD in there and click on "Mount Disk" and then iTunes proceeds to import it just fine and then ejects it, as I have set the options. It started to happen after I upgraded to Leopard and also iTunes 7.5. I don't think I tried to import anything between doing those 2 updates.

Can you please suggest?The sapstartsrv is not allowing you to perform the Stop option for instance 10.
The sapstartsrv should create a streamfile in the /tmp/.sapstream5<instance number>13. Check
if this file has the right permition, something like that:
srwx--- 1 <sap>adm sapsys .sapstream51013
To solve the issue you could try:
1. Try restart the sapstartsrv for the instance 10 and check if this will solve the problem.
2. check if the s-bit permission in the program sapuxuserch (note 927637)
3. In the last way you could disable the protect method for sapstartsrv with the instace profile parameter
"service/protectedwebmethods = NONE" and restart the sapstartsrv. This certainly will solve the problem, but I do not recommend it for security aspect.
Before unprotect the web methods you should try to update the sapstartsrv.

Single-instance manual standby for a three-node RAC database
Hi all,
I am wondering how it is possible to create a manual standby database for a rac primary database.
Oracle versione is standard edition 11.1.
I have experience creating and managing manual standby for single-instance database; I am wondering if and how I can instruct the single-instance standby database to discover and apply the three redo threads that I will copy from the primary site to the standby site.
Should I use rman to catalog all the archived log on the standby site ?
Should I configure many LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters to point to many different path, one for each primary instance (i.e. one for each redo thread), and let rman automagically discover all the archived logs ?
Should I configure only LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 , put archivelogs from all threads in the same folder, and let rman automagically discover all the archived logs ?
Thanks for every answer!
AndreaHi,
indeed i catalog all transfered archive logs in front of the recover process.
During the tests i believe (iirc) i was unable to recover from transfered archivelogs without catalog them first. But this statement is out of my mind, i am not 100% sure for this, sorry.
Some more details.
Because it is a standard edition, i have to use on the RAC side ASM. So our normal scripts to transfer archivelogs from primary to standby are obsolete.
So i decided to put the whole standby thing into the database. Now the primary database uses external scheduler jobs to do the work. The standby side is not using ASM, so there is no need to handle the logs in any special way.
The steps are:
1. Get SCN from primary and standby
2. Transfer the logs for the gap from ASM to "normal" filesystem.
3. Transfer (and compress, if not in LAN) to standby archive dest
4. Catalog on standby side
5. Recover on standby side
6. Delete on normal filesystem (on both sides, but on standby with a delay of 2 days just to be sure)
The steps on the standby side are both using the primary scn from step 1 as a parameter to avoid error messages during the catalog or recover call.

Starting and Stopping Instances from Netweaver Administrator does not work.
When we go to our http://<host>:<port>/nwa and navigate to Systems. We see our instances, although we see status and UNKNOWN.
Also, when we click down to see our server nodes, and try and restart them or stop them...we enter our user/pass for Unix and but it doesn't do anything.
Does anyone know what is involved to get this functionality to work? We're not looking install CCMS or anything like that, we just want th ability to start and stop our cluster from the central instance web administration screens.
Thanks,
-TimJust works for us, without needing any config.
If your running unix the alternative method is to use a tool called JCMON, much better than NWA.
log in as <sid>adm onto your host.
jcmon pf=/usr/sap/PEP/SYS/profile/PEP_JC00_xxxxx
for our production portal for example;
Which allows you to do admin on your java instance only.
use the menu options 10 - 21.

Need to stop instance of mc onEnterFrame
(running CS3 and doing this in AS2)
i have a looping animation of a ball rotating, that i need to stop rotating once it reaches a particular frame (we'll say frame 60).
i tried putting:
ball_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
ball_mc.stop();
(ball_mc is the instance name of a particular movie clip. i do not want to reference the actual mc as i have about 10 instances of it on the timeline)
everything is taking place on the main stage at the root level, but i can't seem to get the animation to stop.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
jOh. So many things aren't making sense here.
First what does this mean "...i do not want to reference the actual mc as i have about 10 instances of it on the timeline..."?
The only way to tell a movieclip to stop is to tell it to stop, so you will have to reference it. There are many ways to do such a thing, but without knowing exactly what you are trying to accomplish (with the whole project) it is hard to give exact advice.
The next thing is that I don't think onEnterFrame is what you are thinking it is. It means to repeat the code at the frame rate, it doesn't mean, "Do this when this frame is reached." If you just want to do something when you reach a frame you put a keyframe and add code like:
ball.stop();
All code on that frame will execute before the screen is redrawn. So I think that is what you are after.
Finally, there are a couple of reasons that the code above might not stop a given movieclip.
The first and most common reason would be that you have a scope problem. That that ball isn't a child of the current timeline. So if ball was actually inside another movie clip you might need to do something like
theOrbs.ball.stop();
Or perhaps you have mistyped or misnamed the instance. So if the instance name is Ball and you say ball.stop() it won't work because capitazliation and spelling matter.
Another popular way that stop() wouldn't work is if the animation of the clip is being done by code. stop() only stops the playhead on the specified timeline. So if there is some code making the ball move stopping its timeline won't stop the code.
And a similar issue to the scope and code issue is that if the animation that makes the ball move is actually provided by a movieclip nested inside of ball then ball.stop() will stop the ball's timeline, but not the independent timelines of its children.
So we need to know more about how you have designed your project. -
Import into primary instance in Standby environment
Hi ,
We have a production standby setup in which the both the primary and standby instances are running on verison
10.2.0.4, the platform being RHEL5. We are planning some maitenance activities on the primary which comprise the following:
1) Export 2 schemas (250G)
2) Drop them in the primary
3) Import these schemas back into primary.
I would like to know whether any of these activities would effect the standby synchronisation. Are there any pre-cautionary steps we need to take before starting on this task?
Regards,
PavanHi,
I opened an SR with Oracle for this reason too. but no reply since 2 days :(
If I am doing a schema level export, should the tables be already created on the standby before the import?
Since the drop table is also reflected on the standby
I have a 10.2.0.3 database on AIX 5.3
Its a logical standby and not a physical standby.
does the same apply? Can I drop and do an import and will it work. Or do I need to take any more steps?
Thanks -

Sequence of stopping starting Primary and standby DB
Hi,
what are the sequence of stopping starting Primary and standby DB ?
To stop, which one ,primary or Standby, should be stopped first ?
To Start which one first ?
Thank you.Hi,
what about the 10gR2 logical standbys? When I read the Note:278643.1 to apply the patch for logical database, it seemed that the sequence to stop and start the primary/logical standby was to stop the logical standby first before the stop of the primary one. Please advise me, for a simple situation just to stop and start the primary/logical standby to support a Unix server bounce, what is the sequence we should follow ? Do we have to run some commands to stop/start the SQL apply?
Any idea or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,

Stopping RAC instances on shutdown (10g - RHEL3)
Any advise on the correct way to script instance stop in cluster nodes?
As soon as a node comes up, CRS automatically starts its instances. However, according to alert logs, they are not being cleanly stopped (if left as configured by the installation procedure):
Errors in file /opt/oracle/admin/oragis/bdump/oragi1_pmon_4778.trc:
ORA-00481: LMON process terminated with error
PMON: terminating instance due to error 481
Beginning crash recovery of 1 threads
In other words, on node shutdown, we need to issue
srvctl stop instance -d ... -i ...
What's the proper place to issue this command before the node shuts down?
Thanks,

Sql Apply on standby stops on error
hi all,
I have run into problem I can't figure out.
There are test and production databases, for both there are logical standby databases.
For example, when materialized view is created on primary database, I see error "ORA-16226: DDL skipped due to lack of support", which is ok.
When I try to create index on test database, I got message "ORA-16227: DDL skipped due to missing object", so far OK.
However, when I try to create index on this materialized view, on production database SQL Apply stops at this point, because materialized view does not exist on standby.
Any clues why SQL apply doesn't stop on one standby but on the another standby database it stops after the same statement?
Are there any parameters or smth for this?
Thanksyes, they are both same version and compatible parameter is the same - 11.1.0, they should be created same way on both.
only difference - prod is on solaris, test is on linux.
Problem in this case is not with mviews, but in fact, that if we have some table which is skipped and some index or other object is added on primary, SQL apply stops on standby.
Anyway, what should be the default action if SQL apply encounters an error - is it stopping apply ? -
SAP instance getting stop after some time....

And it stop instance after some time.We are using Veritas (VCS cluster).Its continously search for cleanup of resources!!!!!!!
Regards
AdilSap instance start by that script but after sometime it give message in cluster software that Waiting for Cleaning of Resources.And after sometime it shutdown that instance.
Hi Adil,
When an external application (in this case SAP NetWeaver) is clustered with VCS, there are options to execute scripts at various operation cycles of the VCS agent for the application in question. I would recommend reviewing the application group configuration, corresponding VCS logs, as well as the path to the scripts and their content.
I can assist from VCS perspective if the question still stands.
Regards,
Villi
