By accessing the Device Manager, and looking at the Properties of the Nvidia 590/570/550 SATA controller I now know that my device is on the IDE/ATA/ATAPI Primary Channel
Bosskiller, that screen shot of the panel was perfecto mundo
Syar your nuggets of info were invaluable.
Come November 11th, I shall be happier and alot wiser.
Thanks to all who chipped in.

No much of a benchmarker.
All I know is that at 650/1600 those are pretty impressive speeds.
Mind you the newest 800 series are mega, anyone thinking of that might well need a 600+ PSU to be in with that crowd.
yeah 8800 are "pig(power hungry)". in SLI mode 800W PSU as recommended  is listed, how is true is that gonna see in time.
look here we have discuss 8000 series a bit: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101775.msg743942#msg743942

  • SYAR thankyou ever so much!!

Just a quick thankyou post, I have for months been trying to troubleshoot why my bios smartfan would not work at all. It used to then suddenly stopped after a bios upgrade and nothing ever fixed it, numberous flashes resest, fiddling with corecenter or speedfan.
But now since the flash, it works fine and dandy!!
Dunno what ya changed in your bios, but it worked and reset sumin! On top of that even with fastwrites on I no longer lose my clock speeds while gaming! It stays at 401/1100 and no stutters.
    Anyway thanks alot man!

    Thanks a lot .
I have a new noe2 custom bios rev2 based on 1.B0 and will link to it in bios collection thread shortly .
Change from previous custom rev1 is to have usb/kb storage support and usb mouse support enabled by default
as theese disabled cause problems for some after flashing.
Great stuff mate, can you tell me one thing, what does USB shadow mean?

  • Message to Bosskiller and all Fll using forumties.

Firstly thanks very much Guys for the great support you have given me over past couple of days.
    did it guys.
The biggest winning trick to overclock yer Phenomll 920 is to use a PS2 key board. I haven't got a clue what a usb does to the true values in the bios, but if you try to overclock with a usb keyboard your overclocking will go to hell in a handbasket.

  • Odd sort of problem

I have a K8N Neo2 Mobo which stopped working, when the power was turned on at the mains all the fans etc started to run but there was no POST.
After much beating about I got my BIOS chip reflashed Great every thing back to normal, my OS boots up and everything runs as it should BUT,
I cannot enter Setup. Sent the chip back and it tested okay so not the chip or a corrupt BIOS.
When I switch on I get the Platinum boot screen and the options to press TAB for boot menu or DEL for Setup if I key Del all I get is a blank screen and a flashing cursor, if I dont press either TAB or DEL my OS boots normally.
I am at a loss, I have trawled the internet and loads of forums and tech sites but no answer til someone suggested I come here and ask, So I'm asking guys can anyone help me?

This sounds familiar but can't find another reference.
Maybe syar or bosskiller  could help here as I seem to think it is to do with bootblock not being flashed/updated following a bios flash.  Should get resolved with adding switch ("/ wb") to the flash.  Or maybe I'm way off the mark.
You didn't have this problem before the bios flash?
Update:- found this from another thread
    Quote
It's not possible to only flash the bootblock .
The /wb switch flash the bios and bootblock together with main bios block (it won't skip the blocks you saw earlier).
I'm not saying bootblock is bios layout , i say bootblock change sometimes from one bios version to another
if there is a major bios workover like layout new features etc (or bug fix in the bootblock part of course).
Let me give you an example .
You want all the old parts in old bios updated and all data reset then you use the following switches with an award flash :
    AWFL822A W6340VMS.630 /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
    /py - Program flash memory
/sn - say no to create backup bios file
    /wb - Program bootblock
/cc - Clear cmos after successful flash
/cd - Clear DMI pool after flash
    /cp - Clear PnP/ESCD data after flash
/f - Force programming with the new bios files programming algorythm
/r - reset PC automaticly after flash
This will create a complete new bios flash like the board was delivered from factory with a initial loaded bios 6.3
if using only AWFL822A W6340VMS.630 , you will have no clearing/new dmi pool , preserve old bootblock version , preserve old PnP/ESCD data ,and you will have to
clrear cmos with jumper after flashing.
Could try reflashing with switches above; obviously substitute your flash utility and bios file.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Ram problems OCZ

they still only find em as ddr 266 or ddr 333, tried too update my bios too 1.2 but then board gets unstable but can find emas ddr 400 in manuel mode but how too find the ram as  ddr 400 with the 1.00 bios where board is stable.

  • Tips for my K8N Diamond Plus

so although i have been into hardware for awhile now i have never really been a big OC'er.  it was never something i really wanted to do since i work my arse off to get my hardware.  my buddy recently OC'ed his micro-ATX board with his AMD 3700+ from 2.2 to 2.9 on a stock heatsink and he is sitting stable.  this got me thinking and wanting to try out a bit of OC'ing just to see what i am able to push my system until i upgrade from my current CPU to a new 4400+ dual core.  so here is my system and im just looking for tips/a quick walkthrough of what i need to tweak to OC my box and keep it stable.
CPU: AMD 3500+ 939-socket, Newcastle core stock at 2.2ghz
MoBo: MSI K8N Diamond Plus with the 3.09 BIOS
RAM: 2x1gig sticks of PQI Turbo 400mhz/PC3200 timings of 3-4-4-7
    PSU: Sunbeam 550watt SLI certified
    Video Cards: 2x eVGA 7900gt's SLI'ed
that is basicly the big stuff, i have  a X-FI soundcard and all SATA HDD's and stuff but that stuff doesnt really matter too much when it comes to OC'ing.  anyways, im just looking for directions on what i should set my stuff to.  if you could also through in a run down of how HT, the multiplier, my FSB, and the DRAM/FSB settings affect each other i would really appreciate it.
basicly all i would need is something like this for my settings:
    multiplier:
    vcore:
    FSB:
    DRAM/FSB:
    mem timings:
    HT settings:
and anything else i have left out.
again, i would really appreciate the help.

geez guys, can't believe you haven't spoted the mistake yet.
first, the newcastle is socket 754, there is no newcastle core for socket 939.
    k8n diamond plus doesn't have a 3.09 BIOS.
so iostream, please make sure that you get the details correctly.

  • MSI GeForce 8800 Ultra OC Lock / Freeze ups

Hi, this seems to be a general problem not just with MSI, I'm reading exactly the same problems being experienced by other 'Ultra' users.
After 20 or so mins of play (mainly bf2 / COH / Far Cry for me) the card/display driver crashes, the screen flickers and sound pulses then ultimately Windows (XP) locks-up/BSOD's.
If I ctrl-tab quick enough I can go back into Windows and 2d is fine. If I then try and reload a game or any 3d app, it will immediately hang again, ie the only way to recover is to reboot.
The GPU temperature reported is fine around 80 degrees at time of crash.
However, I can run 3dmark2006 to my hearts content with no issue and the same with FSX.
I tried lots of different things, endless driver revisions (yes use Driver Cleaner 1st), re-installing games etc to no avail.
Increasing the GPU fan to 100% with Riva-Tuner has no effect but removing the side panel of my computer does result in no problem (strange eh).
Now from what I have read, it is a problem with the memory being overclocked too much at factory.
So as recommended by a poster to another thread, I reduced the factory 2300mhz memory speed down to 2200mhz and now I am running fine.
I have a large Thermaltake case with 4 system fans so cooling is not an issue. Having said that, even if I had no fans the card should still not crash as the product does not specify any special cooling requirements.
Has anyone else with this card experienced the same problem? Is it a driver issue, or a problem with this card that is known about by MSI? Or is the card faulty, should I send it back?
I reported the problem to my reseller after 1 day and they told me they would need the card for 7 days and send it back to MSI if they couldn't find a fault. I am not prepared to do that and if it is not fit for my purposes, shouldn't they offer me an instant refund even if they test it and it works for them. I know for a fact they won't pay someone to sit there playing bf2 for half and hour lol, they will more likely run 3dmark and then tell me card is fine, when it isn't (for me)!

OMG THIS IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM I HAVE!!
Ok sorry for caps. I have the exact same specs as elmes. I even had the exact same card as him previously x1900xtx from powercolor and it was rock solid for 1.5 years. I got the first MSI 8800 Ultra a couple of weeks ago and I launched EQ2 and lo and behold everything's great until I start seeing a weird black line flash in the middle of the screen every 20-30 seconds. Having had experience with problems like these I knew it was overheating or bad memory on the GPU or so I thought at the time. I have a ThermalTake Armor case with an 80mm fan custom mounted on the side blowing directly at the mobo and CPU, a Zalman 9500 on the CPU blasting the hot air across the case into the back exhaust 80mm, i've got a 40mm at the top of the case blowing the air out, 2 80mm front mounted blowing in and an extra exhaust 40mm in the back and the 80mm fan that comes side mounted on my OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU. So as you can tell the power and cooling is not a problem. Card runs 60c idle and max of 85c during ati tool artifact scan for 5 hours. (bosskiller could you please explain what combined PSU mode is exactly? i've never heard of that either, i have 2 PCI-E cables securely connected to the GPU).
So I launched CoH and same black lines, only worse.  I then went on and downclocked the card to 635/2200 and surely enough all problems went away as far as the black line was concerned. So after poking around the net and ripping out a few hairs on my head for paying so much money for a buggy GPU, i decided to RMA it through Newegg. At the time I thought that maybe the box got damaged being shipped from CA to MA or I just got a bad card...
So I got a brand new 8800 last night, overnighted from NJ in fact. Box in perfect condition and everything inside....
    I launch EQ2.....play for 30 minutes....no black lines...........WOW......n4_disp crash to desktop 5 min later..............
So sure enough I thought ok, don't panic....bad drivers.....uninstalled all of my nvidia drivers (I have an MSI P6N Diamond mobo too btw, had severe problems with software raid, SiL's running well now) and 162.18 release drivers....installed 158.22....same problem.
In an hour, the card started crashing in EQ2 every 5-10 minutes (and this was also at a particularly bad time as I was getting mauled by a lvl 57 epic djinn Al'zheri)....no black lines this time. So off I went and clocked it down to 635/2200 as I had the previous card, all problems vanished. Ran ATI tool artifact scan for overnight....all stable. Played EQ2 for an hour and a half this morning....all stable....
So now I'm certain that MSI 8800 Ultra is clocked too high. In fact go and take a look at the OC settings of other VGA manufacturers, MSI is the highest with the exception of XFX.
So either the QA team at MSI didn't do a proper job or 2 cards shipped from different locations with a 2 week delay in between happened to magically be bad. I'm gonna call Newegg today and see if I can exchange it for another brand.....

  • K8n neo2 platinum lock-ups

Hello everyone, well here is the deal, I ust built yesterday my first amd64 system, specs are as follows:
    amd athlon 64 3200+ Clawhammer
    512mb ddr400 (single stick)
    120gb sata drive
    1 dvd unit, 1 dvd-ram unit
geforce 3 ti 500 (i know, i have to replace it)
    soundblaster live! 24-bit
    stock case psu
Before that, i had the same config but with an athlon xp 2600 + witch an msi k7n2 delta2, it worked fine. But this one, as soon as i start gaming the game will randomly slow down to a crawl and then lock-up the pc... I used to have this same problem with a kt4v which i replaced thinking it was gone bad, though i did notice on that board the 3.3v line was quite faulty, well same thing is happening here, at least i think
If i leave Corecell opened while gaming, the game will suddelny minimize, corecell will pop-up with an alarm and show about 2.8-29v on the 3.30v line... now before i go out and spend some money on a new psu, I need to know if this could be it ? or could it be the old gf3 acting up?
As i said, this same thing used to happen to me with an old kt4v paired with my old athlon xp 2600+, it stopped happening when i switched to the k7n2 delta2 but here it is back again...
    help please!

Well I´m back, meaning that my lock-ups are back
Although this time I think they're not voltage - psu based... all my voltages are on their normal conditions, temps are doing just fine, I can even game with no issues, the problem is my computer is randomly locking-up
I have read and re-read this post, Because I am having the same symptoms as this guy did, just random lock-ups , no time interval, the conditions cannot be reproduced , so Im guessing its either
    a) hardware
    b) bios settings/bios
More info: I upgraded my bios to syar's moded 1.A, turns out I'm running on a Venice 3200+ (not clawhammer as I stated before) ... Cnq is disabled, so is spread spectrum, so is aggresive timings, no dynamic overclocking, no fast writes, no sideband addresing, memory timings are at the manufacturer's specs, no overclocking whatsoever, fsb 200*10 , htt 5x...
Just so u know, the computer has been powered on for the last couple of nights downloading and It runs fine idling, but when i start surfing, or doing whatever it will lock up on a random time/condition basis (it hasnt locked up yet while gaming though)

  • MSI RD480 Neo2 : HT Link Speed

I've just discovered the HT Link Speed limitation in the current 3.2 bios for the MSI RD480 Neo2 and was wondering if MSI is able/going to fix this issue? and add if possible the 2x,3x,4x,etc HTT links??
Previously this was not an issue since i had an AMD Athlon 3400 (with an AMD set 4x HTT multiplier), this created a HT link of 1,000Mhz when running my cpu/memory to 250 mhz. However with my newer X2 4200 which is factory set at 5x, I'm hitting the HT max mhz limit pretty quick..
For the moment i can set the HT Link from Auto to 200, however the limited bandwidth is really chocking the system.
    Regards,

    Thanks for the reply Bosskiller.
In the RD480 3.2 bios there are only two options for HT Links. Auto and 200...  (it's interesting, the popup menu gives the feel that there was plans for more options.)
From my testing, "auto" seems to take the HT speed burned in by AMD. (800 HT (4x) or 1000 HT (5x))
I've dropped the cpu divider down to x8 on the x2 4200 (11x factory) and the memory divider to 166 speed (i've ran this pc4000 at 250mhz ddr with this exact mb, just with the single core 3400 (800 HT 4x) cpu. But just to take them out of this issue.
    (auto)
    215 = 1079.4
    220 = 1104
    225 = 1129
    230 = 1153.8
235 = bios hard lock... (cmos reset)
    (200)
235 = 235 (boots just fine, currently running prime on the cpu's.)

  • K9N Platinum SLI - Powering up the PCIe cards

    Hey everyone,
I've got a K9N Platinum SLI board. This board has a power supply input point called PWR2, which according to the documentation is used to provide power to stable the operation of graphics cards. My graphic card is BFG nVidia 9750 GT. This card has the PCI-Express external power plug in the back, and my power supply has a dedicated (red) connector for this purpose, which I have attached properly.
The PWR2 is currently connected also, into one of the black 12V connectors. Otherwise, everything is running fine and smooth, but I am sometimes (once a day or so) experiencing random shutdowns during intense gaming (playing LotRO). Stress testing does not cause a shutdown: I've ran 3D Mark 2007 straight for 8-9 hours, while having a CPU Burner application toast the CPU at the same time. But no problems whatsoever. No other games exhibit this problem either.
Since I am providing dedicated power through the extra connector at the back of the card, should I leave the PWR2 connector unplugged ? Is there a chance that using these two connectors at the same time causes the 12V rail to overload, and the PSU shuts down to protect itself ? When this shut down occurs, the power LED is left blinking and I need to plug out the wall socket and wait for several minutes before the blinking stops and it starts up again.
My computer has an Enermax Liberty 620W power supply, and AMD Athlon X2 4600+ CPU. So there should be enough juice, at least. I've tried the tips and tricks suggested here. Using USB-connected Keyboard and Mouse does not correct the issue. I've also verified that this is not an overheating issue. My CPU is cooled by a Scythe Ninja tower heatsink and two 12 cm fans. It is possible that the northbride is heating up (it burns the finger on touch when under load), but from the Web, I've understood that the stock passive heatsink should be enough, and that the NB chip can take rather extreme temperatures.
    * UPDATE *
Plugged the PWR2 connector out from the MB, and update the BIOS to 1.10. It's working as usual, but haven't ran any games yet. Heavy gaming usually reproduces the issue, so I'll write more when I know more.

    Updated information on the case.
I've been running 2 days now with the PWR2 unplugged. I have had zero problems with shutdowns since. The only problem I now have is that the USB keyboard and mouse refuse to work in Windows XP after an initial bootup from powered down state. I have to unplug and replug them at the login screen in order to get them work again.
So, I decided to do a final sanity check, and replugged the PWR2, then went gaming. After 2 hours of playing, my computer shutted down for the first time. Plugging in the cable did not solve the USB problem either.
As of this day, I'm leaving it unplugged. It seems like an irrelevant connector, which just causes problems.
    ** Update **
After following Bosskiller's instructions on another thread about using the "Clear CMOS" button and then reconfiguring BIOS from scratch, the cold boot USB issues were solved. The USB devices now work straight after a cold boot, with no need to replug them.
I recommend that the PWR2 -connector info is added to the list of known problems in the sticky thread. If you have a GPU card which takes its power from a dedicated rail (and your PSU has a dedicated connector for this purpose), then leaving the PWR2 -connector unplugged might resolve your shutdown issues, like it solved mine.
After all, according to the manual, this connector is used to give more voltage to the PCI and PCIe busses, and some PCI/PCIe cards might not like this idea at all. There is a reason why these cards have an additional power plug on them...

  • K9N Platinum Problem

    Hello,
I have a K9N Platinum 7250-020 and I read from a different forum to make a new thread about the shutdown issues since it said it wasn't affected. Funny thing is, I'm getting the same exact problem.
    My specs:
CPU: AM2 4200+ (2.4ghz, memory is not overclocked because of the odd multiplier)
Motherboard: K9N Platinum bios 1.2 (tried several of them and they are all buggy!)
    PSU: CoolerMaster iGreen series 500watt
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2gb ddr2 800
    Videocard: ATi x1950pro
    Soundcard: Creative Audigy Platinum
    Symptoms:
I will be listening to music thru winamp and then when I am installing a program it completely shuts off during the middle of installation.
I tried installing a game once from the cd-rom and then it immediately shuts down.
The funny thing of all of this, I never got a blue screen. So I know it can not be because of my Overclocking.
So thanks for reading, please repost if you have anything to report. I don't know when MSI will come out with bios 1.4 for this. I'm so angry...I do not know whether to return this or not. It would have to be through MSI..so yeah. Thanks again!

    Well...this is weird..
Yeah I tried underclocking the bus (now keep in mind I have a AM2, 4200+, and it has an odd multiplier of 11x. Because of this the bus has to compensate with the memory, running at ddr2 800, by running it slightly lower. So if I were to run the bus at 200 MHz, then the memory would be around 366mhz. Thus, that leaves me some head room of overclocking just the CPU since the ram is specified to run at 400mhz.). It didn't help. So since I was running bios version 1.10, I though, "hey..why not update." And so I did to the latest. To my surprise the update description includes: -Improve memory compatibility. Funny, huh?
With that said, I updated and had the settings to what they're specified from Crucial for latency. Then I overclocked to 218 MHz. Thus, resulting a speed about 399.2 MHz for the memory. And to this very moment that I have been running two instances of Prime95, it has yet to come up with a fatal error.
Now like you said, BOSSKILLER, I checked the cpu temperature (with bios version 1.10) and it said like around 40C. Although, once I flashed to the latest version (with it being stable using via Prime95), now the cpu temp in the bios says something around -42C. And it gets better. Since I'm using 64 bit, MSI doesn't have their core center working for 64 bit (to my knowledge). So I decided to see what Everest Ultimate ed. would say. And here is the kicker. It gives a more logical reading for the CPU temp...+39C!
So yeah...lol.... It is working fine and dandy right now! But ehh...in the bios the auto-fan control wont work because the bios sees the cpu temp being negative and so the fan control wont adjust to it.
Anyway, thanks for helping me out again, BK!  It's real nice having someone well...I don't know how to say exactly, but its just nice having someone to go to about my problems!
    Thanks again!!!
P.S. Sorry about the long essay!  :D

  • K9N Platinum HT error

When I recently switched on my computer a BIOS gave me this message:
A Hyper Transport sync flood occured on last boot.
    Press F1 to Resume
It sounds a little .. terrifying and i really don't like the world flood.
    I have:
    K9N Platinum 601-7250-020..., bios v1.7
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    RAM Corsair TWIN2X2048-5400C4 667MHz 2*1GB 4-4-4-12
    MSI NX7600GT T2D256EZ
    Enermax Liberty 500W powersource
It's not first time i have problem with my comp. My comp suffered from random freezes in any OS (ubuntu, opensuse, etc...) and even without OS like in POST or boot device choosing page. I runned memtest and found out that my DDR2 had been broken. Now i've got new RAMs and memtest shows no errors but freezes haven't stopped. And now this ugly message from BIOS. What does it matter? It looks like mobo fatal error.
    sorry for my english

do you change anythink before that happend?
power down PC, remove power cord from the PSU then Clear CMOS Guide
power-up on your PC and check how its going.
    change what?
my BIOS is properly configured and this (1.7) is my fifth BIOS. And I have reseted CMOS min. 20 times since i have got this computer ('cos forgotten password, etc..)
I haven't touched any HT settings as well as FSB and CPU settings! i've only activated  quiet'n'cool and set my rams to 4-4-4-12

  • K9N Platinum won't recognise AM2 6000

    Hi Everyone
My problem is similar to baja_83s post on 21st november.
I've bought a new AM2 64 6000+ but the mobo says contact bios maufacturer.
    Details are;
    K9N Platinum A7250NMS V1.0 042506
MSI's auto update says V1.0 is the latest version.
Have tried the flash USB butwas unsucessful-I just got a 'missing operating system' message when I tried to boot but this seems uneccessary as the bios would seem up to date
    Anyone any ideas?

"Downloaded that again deleted all off USB and ran the utility tool. Ran the MSIHQ again and pointed to the downloaded file .All seemed ok but still got'missing operating system'"
    Follow exact instructions: {Don't delete anything, but format the drive with the Tool below, then rerun MSI HQ Tool to prepare the drive and re-test}

Format your USB key with this Tool ==> http://www.pctipp.ch/ds/28700/28790/HP_USB_Boot_Utility.exe
Then repeat procedure with MSIHQ Tool

  • How do you disable "Network Cable unplugged" icon in systray

Both my current K8N Neo2 and my previous K2N mb's often pop up the "Network Cable Uplugged" icon in the systray when in fact the cable in plugged in and everything is running just fine.  I tried unchecking "Notify me when the connection has no or limited connectivity" but that didnt seem to help.  Any other suggestions?

I already tried unclicking those boxes, syar, with no luck.  Then I tried disabling the Realtek connection (the one i am not using) in DM, and now I don't get the false icon for it (obviously) OR for the nvidia connector that I AM using either.  I also discovered I dont' have the problem with a PCI LAN add-on card.  I'm not sure what is going on but at least that little annoyance is gone.
    Thanks.
