To sync or not to sync...

This is making me feel very old, but after using an iPhone for over a year and mac products for many more, I still feel shaky on the subtleties of syncing. Am I asking to much to be able to sync to more than one computer without losing everything? I have a work Macbook Pro, A desktop PC, an iMac and a windows netbook, I use all of these with practically equal regularity. I find myself needing to add a file from one machine, take off a file another, sometimes I am on the road and may take one of 3 computers. I also record music on both my desktop PC and iMac and use tracks while playing shows/touring. The last tour I was stuck because I couldn't add backing beats to my iPhone to use for the next show because my phone was synced to my desktop PC. It is really frustrating for a person who does not have a "home base" computer, but rather a a series of computers to fill specific functions, of equal importance and necessitate usage with my iPhone. I am prepared for(though not happy about) the probable response of, you purchased a Mac product, deal with the restrictivness of iTunes." It just doesn't seem to be beneficial to limit it like this. Any suggestions as to how I can work around this?

Each time that I have checked that off to manually manage music and videos it warns that everything will erase and sync to the new library when I attempt to apply the change.

I'de like to install packages from the extra repository.
So I tried:
pacman --sync
This told me:

have you used --refresh yet?
So I did this.
But still pacman --sync tells me the same.
I have
Include = /etc/packman.d/extra
in /etc/pacman.conf.
What else is missing?

Don't know that this is the problem but you have a spelling error in your code line.
Pacman doesn't have a "k" in it.
Oh, yes. I have made the error when a copied it. But in the config file it is in fact without 'k'.

I know there are loads of posts with same issue and most of them were related to proxy and connectivity .
This was case for me as well (few months back). Now the same error is back. But I've confirmed that FW ports and proxy are fine this time around.

I've checked proxy server connectivity. I'm able browse following site from WSUS server

I did telnet proxy server on the particular port (8080) and that is also fine.
I've doubt on certificates, any idea which are the certificates which we need to look? And if certificate is expired then (my guess) we won't be able open the above mentioned windows update catalog site?

I've already tested CONTENT DOWNLOAD and it's working fine. WSUS Sync was also working fine for years with proxy server configured on port (8080) and WSUS server on port 80.
My Guess (this is my best guess ;)) is this something to do with Firewall or Proxy side configuration rather than WSUS. However, I'm not finding a way to prove this to proxy/firewall team. From their perspective all the required port communication open and
proxy server is also reachable. More over we're able to access internet (Microsoft Update Catalog site) over same port (8080).
Any other hints where I can prove them it's a sure shot problem from their side.

Apple TV Bug: selecting Podcasts to sync does not work: syncs everything

I have even tried to restore to factory settings, then downloading latest software, deselecting everything but one podcast (video) and look, indeed, no movies, no music but then all podcasts from my entire library are synched to the ATV despite only selecting one... Apple, please can you fix this.
I also have the problems others are reporting on the movie and TV show synching and disappearing but think that has enough attention right now..

It seems that the Apple TV is really designed to stream and connect with media that is on an Apple desktop that is always available to update and sync data.
Synced content plays independent from any computer, streaming is only possible with a computer running iTunes. You have to judge for yourself whether the 40 GB drive holds enough content for the time when your computer is not available.
I only have my laptop available in my apartment for perhaps three hours at the most. During that time I am probably working on it, so it is not just idle to do syncing.
Syncing runs fine in the background. The network bandwidth is the limitation, not your computer power.
Also I was wondering if people could give me advice on the specs required of a Mac mini to run video playback.
The mini should have no problems playing back the video (and recording it). Other people in this forum who have used their mini as a dedicated video server might jump in.

generally set that variable to be DATA:\ accross the country.
All distributions, however, distribute to %DEST_VOLUME%\Replicated
Files\<distribution>
The Replicated Files directory was added using the Add Directory button as
a subdirectory of DEST_VOLUME.
I had this same setup in my test network and had no problems with volumes
being wiped after pressing synchronize. I am reading some postings,
however, that to set the variable to the root of the volume is a very
dangerous practice.
Is that a ZFS 3.02 problem, or does it still exist on ZSM 6.5 ?
Is the 'Replicated Files' directory offering me any protection against
this problem?
Unfortunately the test network has since been dismantled for use on
another project so I cannot test these things myself.

The Synchronize Directories option on 3.02 has indeed some very bad
limmitations (you might want to read the appnote about creating
distributions for more info about this), this option has been changed
completely with ZEN 6.5 where you can specify per directory what needs to be
synchronised.

I am unable to sync my music, applications, movies, etc. to my iPod touch. The only way I am able to bypass the message that pops out when I try to sync (the one in the title) is by clicking "Apply" instead of "Sync". To do this, I make changes to Apps, Music, or Movies (...) and the buttons "Revert" and "Apply" will replace the button "Sync".
My problem is most likely not due to using many accounts because I only have one and it is the only one that I use. I do not share accounts with my family members. Still, I have tried everything here, nothing has worked for me. Since I don't often listen to Podcasts, I have deleted them from my iPod. I have no idea why I am unable to sync and no one seems to have the same problem as me.

The apple id's are the same and only 2 devices authorized. Meessage states to go to STORE and Authorize Computer. When I do I get a Message it is already authorized

The problem appeared to be a Pending Request on the IPAD for the new ICLOUD option to share Keychain. I cleared that up and it appears that fixed the issue. Thanks for your help

I want to move voice memos from my iPhone to Windows desktop. I saw several posts about syncing them to iTunes. Thats not what i want. I want to copy them to my desktop not just sync to iTunes. Unable to copy - paste from iTunes either.

impossible to do anything simple on iTunes, I managed to wipe all my recorded voice memos when I tried to move my files from iphone to desktop, instead they just "sync" I never got the point with sync, why can't you just export files and import files from desktop, simple as that why make it so complicated

Windows XP + iTunes: (sync) photos not copied...cannot be displayed on ipod

I'm sorry if this is a known and solved issue but I'm really frustrated about it.
I have bought a brand new ipod Classic 80GB. My system is running Windows XP SP2 (up to date) and iTunes 7.5.0.20. I have an NTFS Hard Drive (2 Partitions, C and D) and a FAT32 Hard Drive (1 Partition, E).
Every time I try to sync my ipod through iTunes with a video or photo I get the following error message: "Some of your photos, including the photo PHOTO_NAME, were not copied to the iPod IPOD_NAME because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
What is this? I have followed the photo (and video) sync procedure to the letter. On my laptop (also Win XP SP2), iTunes works just fine! So there's nothing wrong with my photos/videos.
I looked around the Internet and found there's a similar issue in Windows Vista with RAID and/or NTFS. I do NOT have RAID or Vista.
It there a known bug also in Windows XP? Is there a fix expected?
I tried moving my photos on a USB FAT32 Stick but still I was unable to sync them with my ipod.
Any help or information will be much appreciated.

Near as I can tell, iTunes DOES NOT like a JPEG with an embedded color profile. I too have been seeing a simliar issue and did some troubleshooting last night to arrive at this conclusion.
Pictures exported from Adobe Lightroom would sync to my iPod Touch via iTunes without any issue. However, Pictures saved from Adobe Photoshop would fail with the error "Some of your photos, including the photo PHOTO_NAME, were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
This set me to looking at the differences in the JPEGS that Lightroom was creating vs. the ones that Photoshop was creating. I finally arrived on the inclusion of the color profile.
Pictures exported from Lightroom, while converted to the sRGB color space, did not include the profile in the image and sync via iTunes just fine. Photoshop, on the other hand, automatically includes the profile when saving as a JPEG and these pictures WILL NOT sync via iTunes. Even if you tell Photoshop to not include a color profile, it includes a piece of metadata that says the profile is not specified (which is distinctly different from Lightroom which omits the metadata entirely.)
Choosing File|Save for Web... (as opposed to File|Save As...) in Photoshop does not include any color profile (just like exporting from Lightroom) and syncs via iTunes just fine.
I'm very curious to know if the images that you (and others) are having problems sync have, for some reason, a color profile embedded in them. In Windows Explorer, you can right-click on a picture, choose Properties, select the Details tab and look for the Color representation property. My assumption is if it is blank, the picture will sync fine, but if it is anything else it will not sync.
It'd be great to get confirmation from Apple if this is indeed an issue - that JPEGs with embedded color profiles are not sync'd with iTunes. I'm going to do a few more tests today and see, if by chance, including a Mac color space on the image enables it to sync or not.

I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.

When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them. Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view. I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes. My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.

I just recently tried to sync with my desktop using Itunes and once they were synced I cleaned up alot of the contacts using outlook but when I tried to sync them not all the information from outlook made it to my iphone. So after looking a bit closer i have noticed that when i have the phone plugged into the computer it shows the songs but when i dont have it plugged in and i go so the song icon on the bottom of the music menu screen it says i have no songs!
