To Synch in iMac on UBS 1.0 or iBook on UBS 2.0

I have an older iMac G4 with no USB 2.0 ports and a new iBook with USB 2.0. My kids have iPods generation 4 ("iPodG4"). We have a very large iTunes library and tons of iPhotos which I have been trying maintain on the iMac as our central "tunes machine for synching" (all music purchases made here). Periodically I back up the iMac music library to a firewirehard drive and copy to the iBook so we can used the iBook as a portable "jukebox" when hooked to speakers.
I am getting an iPod 5th generation with no Firewire support.
Anybody have any opinions about switching the main "tunes machine for synching" to the iBook? It seems I really don't have any alternatives if I don't want it to take forever to synch the iPodG5. I would prefer to keep the iMac as the central machine because it doesn't "walk".
Any thoughts are appreciated.

  • Can I transfer music transfer from Imac (10.4.11) to old ibook G3 (10.3)

    Hi,
I've just inherited an old ibook G3 500mhz twin usb which I'm bringing back to life with a new hard drive (hopefully!). I wondered if it's possible to put all my music on it (there will be space on HD) so I can use it as a jukebox in other rooms of my house? I currently have all my music on my recent imac running 10.4.11, the ibook will be running 10.3.
I wondered if I will be able to just transfer some folders from the itunes folder, if so which ones?
    Thanks for any help.

Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello? (it's an echo)
If it can't be done could someone just tell me that?

  • Calendar app that will synch between iMac 10.6.8, iPad 2 and iPhone 5

I am looking for a calendar app that will synch my 3 devices (iMac 10.6.8, iPad 2 and iPhone 5).  I tried upgrading my iMac to the latest version, whatever cat that is.  I hated it ANd it didn't synch properly.  Most events duplicated and some up to 5-6 times.  I might have stuck it out and tried to figure out the replicating issue but I despised the entire interface to downgraded back to 10.6.8.  I am thinking there has to be an app out there that will successfully synch calendars between these devices but from my search in the App Store, most seem to be geared to mobile devices only but I want to be able to see my events when I am at home on my iMac, too.  Does anyone know of an independent app that will do this?

  • Entries Input to iPhone5 Calendar have stopped synching with iMac/iPad

Up until a few days ago, any calendar entry that I input to my iPhone5 would automatically synch to my iMac and iPad. It just worked without me having done any changes to either system.
Now, when I put an entry into my iPhone Calendar, it no longer appears on my iMac but it does appear on my iPad(Original Model).
As I run a small photography studio on my own, it is important that everything synchs - I'd rather not have to go back to using a Filofax.
    Hope someone can help

  • Synch with iMac

Is ther any way to easily synch Pages to an iMac. The program is pretty useless for me until I can truly synch it across all my Mac devices

Peter: You don't have a case to be made to the ACCC. Check what Apple's web site actually says. There's no suggestion that the syncing you _want_ is what Apple advertise or offer.
    The iWork site says:
"iWork for Mac makes it easy to create and design beautiful documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on your Mac."
"iWork for iOS. iWork is also available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch — and it works seamlessly across all three devices."
Only the OS X Mountain Lion web page suggests the syncing you want: "So when you add, delete, or edit something on your Mac, it happens on your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. And vice versa." It's due in Winter/Summer.
The iTunes Store listing for Pages only says iCloud works with iOS devices. And the iCloud web pages accurately describes the "clumsy manual download and upload" process you mention: "You can also drag and drop any iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office document from your computer into one of the iWork apps on icloud.com, and it automatically appears on all your iOS devices, ready for you to review, edit, or present."
Howard's question was: "Is ther any way to easily synch Pages to an iMac. The program is pretty useless for me until I can truly synch it across all my Mac devices".
The short answer without your irrelevant axe grinding is: No, Pages documents don't yet sync with a Mac. This is coming with OS X Mountain Lion in Winter/Summer. In the meantime you can download and upload Pages documents using iCloud in a web browser.

  • Ipad2 will not do Wi-Fi Synch with Imac

    Hello
I am running an IPad2 using 5.0.1 and have an Imac running OSX 10.6.8 with Itunes 10.5.1. I can not get the Ipad2 to do a ITunes Wi-Fi Synch. The "Synch Now" button is always grayed out. The Ipad2 is on my home network C11P2. The Imac is connected via an ethernet cat 5 cable to the router, and connected via WiFi to C11P2 also.
    What am i doing wrong?
    Regards
    Ted

I'm giving this a try to see if it fixes it: On my Mac under iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices, the box was checked for "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically."  I'm hoping this fixes the problem.

Unfortunately many posts of people who claim to have no issues with their 3G iPhones sound pretty much the same.

Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.

  • Migrating from and synching with imac

I am about to purchase the 13'' 2.53ghz macbook pro and will migrate from my iMac. What is the best way to ensure that new work (documents/files) on my macbook pro or my imac is synched with the other machine? Would I use my idisk? If so how? Thanks J

    Hi
I too have an iMac and a MacBook which I like to keep synced (all documents the same on both machines).
I would have to second what the first reply says. Use a USB drive or a networked drive.
I have tried iDisk and quite frankly found it horribly slow and unreliable. If you don't turn on iDisK sync then you only have access to stuff if you have internet access, and if you do turn on iDisk sync it is very unreliable and slow at up loading new files , so I found I could never trust that a file would be there for me when I wanted it next. It is a nice idea, but for me anyway it does not work well enough yet.
I use a USB stick and just plug it into which ever Mac i happen to be using. This has the advantage for me over a networked drive because I can use it anywhere, I don't have to be connected to my network.
Of course mobile me will keep data like calendars and address book synced, and I have to say it does a good job there. It keeps this info synced for me across both Macs, an iPhone and iPod Touch. It is just the iDisk bit of things I find a bit clunky and slow.
    Hope this helps

  • Using Pages in iPad, I save to iTunes and synch w/ iMac.  Where does the Pages document go-I cannot find it?, Using Pages in iPad, I save to iTunes and synch w/ iMac.  Where does the Pages document go-I cannot find it?

Using Pages on my iPad, I save to iTunes to share it with my iMac.  After download I cannot find the documents in my iMac.  Not in Pages, not in iTunes, so where do they go?

Until Apple updates the desktop versions of the iWork apps you have to use iCloud.com in a web browser or iTunes to sync files. You could also try e-mail or DropBox.

  • I just bought an iMac, trying to transfer from my ibook pre intel 10.5.8 - how can i access my excel, word and other old apps?

I bought a new IMac and a new TIme Capsule. The old compter - pre Intel Ibook running 10.5.8 is in the process of backing up. I transfered my apps and find I cannot acces any of my MS Office data, or my Quicken. Lots of stuff I really need there. Gotta be a way to use my old apps, all this data can't just be gone. HELP!

all this data can't just be gone
The data should be fine. But you will need to upgrade the Apps to open the files. For example, MS Office 2004 does not run in the newer OS. You will need to upgrade to MS Office 2008, or later version. The new version will open the older files.
This is true for many Apps. This site has a compatibility table:

  • Upgrading an IMAC (OS X 10.2) with IBOOK (OS X 10.3.9)

I want to use Skype on my IMac; however, Skype needs 10.3 or later and my IMac came with 10.2.
The disks that came with my IBook are 10.3, but they seem to be specifically for the IBook. When I insert the IBook discs into my IMac they just get ejected.
Is there a means of loading System 10.3 from my Ibook (or Ibook discs) onto my IMac?

  • Installing an app from DVD-ROM on an iMac, over the network, to an iBook G4

I have a rather broad question: my in-laws want to install Office 2008 onto an iBook G4. Unfortunately, the G4 only has a CD-ROM drive (ie, read-only), and the Office 2008 install media is DVD-ROM.
They have a new iMac (onto which Office 2008 has already been successfully installed), and my suspicion is that you can share the install disk over the network, but I can't seem to find any detailed instructions on how to do so. I am (unfortunately) Mac-less at the moment, so I can't experiment myself, and my in-laws are about 2,000 miles away, so I can't just pop over and play around until something works.
Anyone have any guidance on how to use the DVD drive on one machine as a way to install on another over the network?
The iMac has Leopard installed, the iBook G4 has the latest version of Tiger.
Don't worry, no licensing issues as it's the Student/Home edition of Office 2008; you're entitled to install it on up to three machines.

Go to System Preferences/Sharing and make sure that DVD or CD Sharing is checked. Ensure both Macs are connected to the same network. Insert the Office 2008 DVD into the Mac with the DVD drive. Open a finder window on the Mac without the DVD drive connect to the other machine. You should see the Office 2008 DVD in the finder window and you can install from here.

  • IMac connects via ethernet fine but iBook doesn't get the wifi connection

I'm not computer literate. I'm told this has to do with the airport sharing but it looks to me like the airport sharing has to do with reading OTHER wifi connections on my iMac. I don't need that. The iMac is connected to the internet just fine. My iBook and my iPhone don't get the wifi connection that it used to get and I can't figure out why not. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
More information would be helpful. Your iMac is connected to your ISP's service with Ethernet? And you are sharing that internet connection for the iMac with other Apple devices from the iMac's AirPort card? Do I have that correct?
If so have you shared that internet connection according to Apple's protocol for doing so?
    My Mac mini is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable to my ISP's gateway. I am sharing the Ethernet connection to two iPod Touches via AirPort from my Mac mini. This is how Apple says to configure a Mac to share the connection;
    1. In Sys Prefs/Sharing highlight Internet Sharing (do not check the box)
    2. Share the connection from: Ethernet (from the dropdown menu)
    3. To computers using: AirPort (check the little box)
    4. Press the button AirPort Options...
    5. Name the Network
    6. Use Automatic for the channel or assign a specific channel
    7. Encrypt the network with one of the choices
    8. For sharing with a non-Apple device; PC laptop, MP3 player, etc, you must use only a 5 alphanumeric character, 40-bit WEP password or only a 13 alphanumeric character 128-bit WEP password. That does not apply if you are setting up sharing for Apple devices only.
    9. Press OK
    10. Check the box for Internet Sharing
    11. Answer any dialog boxes that pop up
Any other forms of configuring sharing the ethernet over AirPort ususally results in various issues.
