To update BIOS or not to update?

Hello, my current desktop is the Compaq Presario SR5413WM. I've recently begun upgrading some of its components, one of which will be the processor. I'm upgrading from the
AMD Athlon 64 LE-1640 Lima 2.7GHz Socket AM2 45W
to the
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Brisbane 2.5GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core
My question is, do I need to update the BIOS? If there's anything else I need to know, please tell me.

Don`t  upgrade the bios as  you may  end  up  not  able to  boot your  motherboard again, take  the following steps in  upgrading your proccessor
1. Change the proccessor and  make sure  put a  cooling  gel (thermal  compound) on-top  at the back before  placing  the fan.
2. Start the  system and  download the   latest chipset for your mother board,  I`M pretty sure  this will  work  fine.

Ok formated with hp tool put the  7680vJ0.exe  and got       updating bios .......bios file not found! no dos prompt if I could get to the dos prompt I thin I could flash maualy with FUDE238.EXE
Yup. That would probably work. I don't know. Not sounding good. Is there a reasonable priced pc shop in your area that has an SPI flash programming device that could flash the chip for you?

  • Satellite L300 BIOS update problem: "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC"

I got Satellite L300 notebook and I want to update it's BIOS (current v1.50), so I've downloaded bios update v1.60-WIN and when I run extracted PS10160M.exe file - I get a message that "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC".
    What I'm I doing wrong?
ps: that BIOS update was automatically suggested after registration on Toshiba website via serial number.
UPD: seems like autosuggestion fail: Manual search shows that 1.60-win bios update not suitable for Satellite L300 PSLBCE model. :-(

Did you download the BIOS for the PSLBCE model?
You cannot use the BIOS from other L300 models, for example PSLB0E.
If you installed Windows yourself using a generic Windows Disc, you will need to install the Value Added Package from the Toshiba website. The BIOS Update requires the TVAP package to detect the machine properly.

  • Qosmio G30-126 - BIOS is not able upgraded on this configuration

    Hello people
I have a problem with my computer where the Toshiba Service had replaced my motherboard. (a display adapter fault).
I have the computer now but the BIOS is very old, is Version 1.90. I downloaded the latest version from Toshiba's site which is 3.90.
When I try to update I get the message " Error. BIOS Upgrade is Failure. BIOS is not able upgraded on this configuration".
I have Windows 7 and run everything in Administrator mode.
I boot from WinPE CD but still not able to do any BIOS upgrade.
The old BIOS does not support USB boot and has some other issues that make the upgrade an important factor.
One assumption I made is that the BIOS has to be upgraded in small steps, i.e. from version 1.60 to 1.70 etc. until I reach 3.90.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I need the upgrade since some features do not exist. Like, USB boot, screen brightness is allways full and cannot change with this BIOS.
It could change with 3.90 on my previous motherboard.
I used the extracted files as you mentioned with Administrative rights. I downloaded the Upgrade files from Toshiba and are supposed to be OK with Windows7
If i have to format the disks and install the preinstall operating system in order to make a BIOS Upgrade, I prefer to buy a new computer :)
I had tried many other alternatives like, boot from various CDs with BartPE (XP), Live CD (Vista) but had no success.

  • Qosmio F60-10L Bios is not working

    Hey there,
    I just bought a Toshiba Qosmio F60-10L.
Now the Bios is not working anymore. Everytime I want to enter Bios menu with "F2" the computer is restarting instantly.
Last week the mainboard has been changed.
But now, after I set a Supervisor password, the problem comes again.
Has anyone an Idea what to do?
    Greets marx

    Hi
You mean you are not able to access the BIOS or you are not able to boot up the notebook?
I think if you had some problems in the past (you said that motherboard has been changed) then I would assume that this issue might be related again to the same reason which appeared previously
Maybe it would be advisable to ask the guys who have replaced eh motherboard for help
Then could remove the BIOS password or Supervisor password and could update the BIOS if necessary

  • BIOS halt not found Pavilion 7580

After attempting to use my HP Recovery disks, it was reported that files could not be copied when recovering XP. I386 files or something to that effect. When I DL PC Doctor & attempted to run it, I received 2 windows that showed AX,BX,CX,DX Patterns & under that was CPU Number 2 (Apic ID 01H) in the first window then in the second window below it for CPU Registers................. & BIOS halt not found. I am unable to recover nor restore my computer. I need help in what to do next. I attempted tom clear the BIOS & returned the BIOS back to defaults but no luck. Anybody with help is welcomed.

I have an SR1750nx, and I ran the PC Doctor Diagnostic
I put a dual core processor into it, and I also received the message  BIOS halt not found.
I then put a different processor and it tested everything in my computer. The bios message never came up.
    What does this mean??
    Do you know???
Do I have a defective processor????
I downloaded every update and driver and, I was never able to get rid of that bios halt not found message.
I have a bran new hard drive, and I reinstalled the  windows xp operating system.
I used a Western Digital diagnostic for the hardrive and it passed the test.

  • K9N2 Diamond - bios does not recognise Intel SSD 520 series

    Hi,
I have a K9N2 Diamond motherboard and BIOS v2.7. I recently bought an Intel SSD 520 Series and when I connect it, the BIOS does not recognise the HDD at all. When I try to install Windows 7, the HDD is shown at the list, but it says that I can not install Windows at the HDD.
I have tried to connect the HDD at SATA port 5 and 6 and set the RAID mode to ACHI and also at ports 1 and 2 and set the RAID mode to IDE. Nothing works.
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    George

.and does the problem appears using the HDD which was equipped in this notebook?
If the BSOD would not appear using the HDD, then a problem is realalted to the inserted SSD drive.
In many cases firmware updates are released for SSD drives and in some cases this might be a solution.

  • HP p6-2120 BIOS will not give me option to change "primary display adapter" for new GEFORCE GT 610

I am trying to change the primary display setting to "PCI Express Graphics", but the setup bios does not give me that option, how can I make that change?

    Futuros, welcome to the forum.
When you install a discrete video card the integrated video should be automatically disabled.  This will allow for the discrete card to be recognized.  Are you having problems with the card not being recognized?

  • X121e bios does not save changes any more

I wanted to boot with a USB drive but did not succeed (system configuration see below).
The ThinkPad showed me the USB drive but did not boot.
I tried changing the BIOS boot order but the BIOS does not save any changes :-(
Changing the boot order and pressing F10 (save and exit) does not give any warning/error.
I tried resetting the BIOS to defaults (F9) but this gives an error message (see below).
No changes in the BIOS will be saved except the time.
Changes I applied to install Ubuntu are still there (e.g. Legacy Boot).
Does anyone have an idea what's happening?
    Thanks!

I've tried quite a bit by now, also disconnecting the BIOS battery over night.
Nothing did work out. Seems really weird ...
Worst thing is that I can't boot from USB HDD: The ThinkPad does not show the USB drive as a boot option (I've tried 2 different thumb drives, one HDD) and I cannot change the Boot order (1. USB CD, 2. USB FDD, 3. HDD, then USB HDD, WLAN).
Any ideas on how to restor functionality? I'll see if I can get an external CD drive ...
On a sidenote: I've managed to replace the internal HDD to a WesternDigital model with more space but it behaves strange delaying the boot process--I've replaced it. Are there known compatibility problems? HDD spcifics: WD Scorpio Blue SATA II 500GB (WD5000LPVT)

  • Bios does not see hard drive

My hard drive failed, and the bios in my T-40 does not recognize the new hard drive.
The new drive works fine in my T-30.
    Johnsfo

The drive did not come with a jumper, but I did use one from another drive. When I placed the jumper in one position and booted, I was able to come to the BIOS and try to auto detect drive with no success.  Then I switched to the second position and booted, a message showed "Scan devices, Please wait". The next message said "Hardware initiate failed, Please check device!!! The BIOS does not be installed. Press (g) to continue".  When I pressed g it went to boot from the CD drive. So I put the Windows disc in, but it came to a point where it noted no hard drive detected.
Saying all this this is my first SATA drive, perhaps there is a motherboard jumper switch that I am unaware of.

  • HP p6210f BIOS will not give me option to change "primary display adapter" for new geforce gt620

    HP Pavilion p6210f NY544AA#ABA
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Changes: Upgraded to 430 watt
In order to upgrade my pc performance I purchased a PNY GeForce GT 620 with 1GB GDDR3. Following the instructions for pc's with onboard graphic I wanted to change the "primary display adapter" in the BIOS to PCI-e. I checked the HP website to find out where this setting is located in the BIOS. I found out that my BIOS does not even show this setting in contradiction to the image on the HP website. I installed the drivers anyway and restarted the pc hoping it would recognise the card automatically which it didn't. The card is supplied with power since it gets warm and the fan spins but the monitor only works on the onboard video-out.
Question: How can i get the pc to run with the new card? Do i have to upgrade the BIOS? (Momentary Bios is 5.7)

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2327c Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped from the factory with Windows 8 installed. You will need to remove the graphics card, DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS, then reinstall the new graphics cards. Please see Computer Does not Start After Installing a Video Card (Windows 8) for more information about your issue.

  • Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?

Why is that 785GT-E63 bios does not allow GPU overclock?
while other motherboard on the same price range or perhaps cheaper allows it.
Anyways there are software solution but I hope a bios support would do. My old Geforce 8300 supports overclocking GPU via bios.

From my past experience, I would try uninstalling CCC and install ATI Tray Tool, or ATI Tools and see if you can OC a bit that way - if you do remember dont OC far just a tad as it will likely cause heat issues and onboard GPU is fanless.
