To what extent does auto-syncing work...?

I have researched this but can not find the answer anywhere.
I need to know to what extent does auto-syncing work?
I started my library quite some time ago, and I didn't want to use the auto-sync feature. My library has grown very large and to be honest, I still wouldn't mind doing the manual syncing if my behavior and/or needs hadn't changed. However, I am now going back and adding artwork and making some slight modifications to several songs. Overall, through one type of change or another, this will affect the vast majority of my library. What I need to know is if I were to make info-related changes, will the syncing make the modifications on the ipod, or will they be ignored?
For instance, here are some of the types of changes that I am beginning to make:
- Adding Artwork.
- Changing a track name from "Living in a box" to "Livin' in a box"
- Adding info to the various fields such as album author, comments.
- Modifying a track name from "Love is a Battlefield" to "Love Is A Battlefield"
- Changing an album name from "Miami Vice Soundtrack" to "Miami Vice [Soundtrack]" or "Shrek (Soundtrack)" to "Shrek [Soundtrack]"
- Updating an artist's name from "Jackson Five" to "Jackson 5"
Any insights would be most appreciative.
Bill

While in Manual sync, any changes you make in iTunes will not get put onto the iPod until you drag the songs over.
Any changes you make on the iPod thru iTunes will not be on the original in iTunes.
Any rating,
Any reason you are using manual sync instead of Auto sync?
If you don't want (or can't) to put everything in iTunes on the iPod, use selected playlists and manage those playlists.
When you make changes to the songs in iTunes, they will get updated onto the iPod automatically.

It does not cover my question about in what order does the sync work?
Does the first signed on computer copy its information to the cloud?
Does the second computer/pad/cell then download the information from the cloud overwriting the information on the second device even if some of the information is different?
What happens to the information on the second device that is not in the cloud?
If you delete a record (eg a bookmark) from the second device how does it then delete it on the first device?
What are the keys to the different types of information?

Hi I have answered you questions inline below:
Does the first signed on computer copy its information to the cloud?
Yes when you first set up the account or when you first add a device to the cloud, if it is not the first time, it will merge with the other data
Does the second computer/pad/cell then download the information from the cloud overwriting the information on the second device even if some of the information is different?
By default it merges. There is no option to change this.
What happens to the information on the second device that is not in the cloud?
It will sync at the next sync interval if that data is selected to sync.
If you delete a record (eg a bookmark) from the second device how does it then delete it on the first device? What are the keys to the different types of information?
It resolved the entry the next time the first and second device syncs. Can you elaborate on the second part of this question?

  • How does wifi sync work?

Hi.  From what I have read, iTunes will automatically sync with iOS5 devices if they are plugged in to electricity (and if you have set up your device to sync over wifi, and if iTunes and the device are on the same wifi network).  But when does the auto sync occur?  Once a day?  Multiple times per day?  What triggers the sync to start?  Thx

    Gooood morning;
It' s realy very simple. If you don' t forget to enable the checkbox for wifi sync in Itunes on your computer.
If you did so and you have the ipad plugged in to electricity, then you can see in the preferences from the ipad that the checkbox for synchronisation is active. Push on it and the synchronisation will start and end later automaticaly. I tried it three times on an evening and no problems.....
It only toke me only 2 weeks to find out how!!! hi hi. The reaseon was I forgot to activate the wifi possibility on my mac.

As there is a sad lack of iSync for the above phone does anyone know if remote sync works on a P990i with a .Mac account?
And if so, what are the settings?

The version from Microsoft is very buggy and crashes a lot for me. I've had better luck with CoRD (which crashes on rare occasions) and have compiled the Linux rdesktop, which runs like lightning but doesn't have the nice features of CoRD.

  • How far ahead does calendar sync work?

Does anyone know how far ahead the calendar sync works? Or is it limited to a certain number of entries - if so how many?

    Thanks.
I had a few entries that didn't sync about 6 months ahead but they appear to be OK now. I've only recently started using sync (to Google calendar and contacts) and I've had a few teething problems. However most seem to have righted themselves so it's almost as if sync needs some sort of running-in period before it's fully up to speed! Odd.

  • Does CC Sync work properly with ANYTHING...?

    Getting really frustrated with CC...
One of the benefits I was looking forward to was the ability to sync my settings, KB shortcuts, layouts, export presets, etc. on all machines; no more having to cart around KYS files, or recreate my setups every time someone brings me in to work on their machine. Only I haven't been able to get sync to work properly for a single app yet.
PS and Illustrator will only let me sync with the account of the person who owns a particular license, which is useless to me as a freelancer; AE won't sync ANY of the settings for me, in spite of the fact that it goes through the motions and pretends like it's syncing; Premiere will sync my settings and workspaces, but not my KB shortcuts. Seriously, what the 'eff is going on here? Does anyone have any suggestions here? Beyond, like, "that feature doesn't exist!" or "wait for Adobe to fix it!"...?

  • What file does iSync sync from?  Is there a master file?

My computer just synced. (I have it set to sync once a day.) I got a strange message telling me that it wants to revert back to my old mailing list and when I went to do a Google search I found my settings reverted back to how they were the other day.
I'm syncing from my iPad, iPod, iDisk (mobile me) and iMac. If I make a change on iPad will that override any change I made on iMac? Or, will it always be whatever change I made on iMac will overwrite what's written on another device? I would think it would be chronological and not from device.
I want to make sure that the changes I put into place with bookmarks, contacts and the like stay. Can you point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,

iSync doesn't sync with iPads, iPods, MobileMe or between Macs. iSync is only for syncing contacts and calendars (from Address Book and iCal) to non-Apple mobile phones via a USB or Bluetooth connection.
The MobileMe Sync forums start here: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
Syncing in Mac OS X does not have a "master file" (except on the very first sync). Everything will be kept in sync across all registered devices no matter where you make changes, additions etc. That's the whole point of syncing.

  • Does Microsoft Sync work with Windows 7 64 bit Outlook 2010 when you connect via Bluetooth?

I was using Microsoft Sync and connecting to my laptop using the sync cable when I was running a 32 bit OS and Windows Vista. I just got my new laptop and it has Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I've read it'll still work using bluetooth to connect vs the  ync cable. Has anyone been successful doing it that way? I have a 700W treo.

Nope. The printer now appears in the list, but I can't print to it. The port is shown as:

  • Nokia E72: Does Google Sync Work ?

    Hello,
I want to sync google calendar entries with my Nokia E72. Google provides Sync for doing this. But they also have mentioned to use Mail For Exchange version 2.09 or later for setting up Google Sync. I tried once using mail for exchange and phone hung. I don't know if its because of this version conflict. Has anyone tried Google Sync with nokia E72 ? Did it work?
    Appreciate your inputs.

  • Does auto fill work or not?

I have enabled auto fill on my iphone (os 4) and also on my mac for safari.
I cannot get it to work on iphone. The button is clickable, but it does nothing. I have manually logged into the web site several times, still the button does nothing. I am testing it for Google Voice logon (a gmail account login).
How do you get this to work? This should be simple.

Same issue here. Enabling Autofill in Settings does not have any effect on any of the sites I have logged into, while it worked fine for these same sites under iOS3 (fields were prepopulatd). The "Autofill" button is greyed out.

  • How does auto update work in AIR 2.5?

    Hi,
We are about to deploy Adobe AIR Runtime 2.5 in our organization.
To do this we use the following command line
    AdobeAIRInstaller.exe -silent -eulaAccepted
This works great. But I am not sure how to disable the automatic updates.
When reading the Adobe AIR configuration guide, http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/admin/WS485a42d56cd1964167ea49bd124ef17d52a-7ff5.html it says I should create the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\AIR\UpdateDisabled and set it to 1.
But when I run the AIR SettingsManager application after I set this registry key it says that automatic updates are enabled.
And if I choose to disable automatic updates from the tool it creates the file %APPDATA%\Adobe\AIR\updateDisabled.
How can I make sure that automatic updates are disabled for all users on all the computers we deploy Adobe AIR Runtime 2.5 to?
Since we are doing an enterprise deployment it is not really an option to ask each and every user to run AIR SettingsManager every time they logon to a new computer
    Regards Erik

    Thanks Chris!

  • Will auto syncing work with an iMac G5 and an iPhone 3gs?

So - like so many people, I have lots of questions about iCloud, iTunes 10.5, and all the rest of it. At the moment, I'm running iTunes 10.5 on my G5. I haven't yet upgraded to ios 5 because I'm somewhat wary of losing functionality and data. But -
If I do, will autosyncing work? I would really love to have any tunes, apps, etc that I buy on the phone show up automatically on my computer, and vice versa. But I have the strong impression that those of us who have older machines are being frozen out of a lot of functions. I don't know if you don't need full iCloud access for autosyncing. And I can't get iCloud on my iMac.
I hope my question is clear! If not, I'll try to clear it up. Basically, I want ios 5 because I want autosyncing. But, if autosyncing won't work for me, I don't know that I want to go through the trouble of upgrading my phone OS when everything is working ok as of now.

I found that the match function does work - I can download purchased songs to my phone with no trouble at all. So I'm happy!
