To which folder does OSX background saved TextEdit recovery files?

Hi, while traveling without an internet connection I workd on a TextEdit file which was probably saved in the background automatically as a temp recovery file...somehow I lost the file, whether through a failed iCloud synch upon returning home or whatever...I think though that I may have backedup my system with Time Machine before losing the file altogether. Could a background recovery version of it be in a folder accessible through Time Machine?
(By a background saved recovery file I mean the temp TextEdit file which in the event of a crash or system restart would allow the file to be recovered.)
Thanks

  • Which folder does Photo Stream use?

    Where does iCloud Photo Stream store photos and push photos on the Lion?

    As far I can see there is no user accessible folder. The images will just appear on the devices and applications that have Photo Stream enabled. You cannot delete individual images from the stream. You can delete all by resetting the stream from your iCloud account settings on the iCloud web site.
    Remember that you must update iPhoto and/or Aperture to see the photos on your Mac.

  • When upgrading to the latest version, I end up with a Firefox 18.0.2 update box which just gives option of saving an .exe file, nothing else. How do I upgrade?

    Hi, the box that appears is the 'opening firefox setup 18.0.2.exe'
    I only have the option to save the file http://download.cdn.mozilla.net, or cancel.
    No run option or where its downloaded to.
    Any help to upgrade to the latest version welcomed.
    Many thanks.

    Click the save button. After the file finishes downloading, double click it, and install the newest version of Fierfox

  • Choosing which folder to save downloaded files to as soon as file is downloaded?

    I'm completely new to this so if there's a simple solution to this, do forgive me and thanks in advance for your patience!
    So I've just started messing about with Automator today and read about Applescript.
    I'm basically trying to find a way of having a prompt for me to select which folder I'd like to save downloaded files to, as soon as the files are downloaded into that folder.
    I've tried a couple of things:
    Setting up a Folder Action in Automator for my Downloads folder.
    'Revealing items in Finder'
    'Get selected items in Finder' (thinking that this somehow grabs the items that were revealed and selected in the previous step)
    Then running an Applescript (as an 'action' in Automator) to do something like this:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
      tell application "Finder"
      set the destination_folder to [choose folder with prompt choose folder]
      end tell
    end adding folder items to
    Or something like this:
    on run {input, parameters}
      tell application "Finder"
      select files
      move files to [choose folder with prompt choose folder]
      end tell
      return input
    end run
    As you can probably tell, I really haven't a clue (although this is addictive and I can't deny I'm enjoying myself)... I've tried a few more variations based on scripts I've seen dotted around the web doing similar things but I didn't hold on to them so I can't show you them. The script  actually runs really smoothly, and runs through with no errors - I copy a file into my downloads folder (to test) from another folder. The Downloads folder opens up automatically, selects and shows me the file I've just added then pops up with the window prompting me to choose a folder. It's just that when I do end up choosing the folder, the file doesn't move at all. The window disappears then pops back up again, then disappears after I press 'Choose' for the second time, as though something has happened. I suppose the files that the Finder revealed, selected and 'got' had no connection to the following action/script?
    What do I need to change? As I said, completely new to all of this so please do treat me like I'm a bit stupid!
    Thanks!

    Others have already given alternative pointers to solve your specific problem, but I can understand the desire to roll your own
    From your script samples, you're on the right track, but are missing a couple of key concepts. I'll try to clarify.
    Your script:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
      tell application "Finder"
      set the destination_folder to [choose folder with prompt choose folder]
      end tell
    end adding folder items to
    First up, let's correct that 'choose folder' command. Specifically, the prompt - it should be a string (enclosed in quotes). As it stands, conceptually, you're kind of invoking 'choose folder' again, and the result of that is used as the prompt on the first 'choose folder'. Not going to work so well.
    Instead, your choose folder should look more like:
      set the destination_folder to choose folder with prompt "Select a folder:"
    Note how I've quoted the text and now it's interpreted correctly - the selected folder will now be stored in destination_folder.
    Now that you have the destination folder, what you need is the files to move. Fortunately, Folder Actions provide this for you in the way the command is called:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
    In this case, these_items is a list of the newly added files., so all you need to do is move these files to the destination_folder:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
      set the destination_folder to choose folder with prompt "Select a folder:"
      tell application "Finder"
      move these_items to folder destination_folder
      end tell
    end adding folder items to
    Note how I've moved the 'choose folder' line outside of the 'tell application "Finder"' block - there's no need for it to be in there, and this way it will prevent the context switch where the Finder comes active to ask you for the folder.
    Incidentally, this is a 'pure' AppleScript implementation, not an Automator action. The Automator action would be radically different in that the files would be passed into your workflow - you'd need to store these in a variable, then prompt for the destination folder and store that in another variable, then use the move Finder items action to move the files, like:
    Personally, I prefer the AppleScript option

  • Saving photos to the web by creating events. Called the destination folder does not exist.

    Hello,
    I ask you for advice (assistance). A week ago I re-installed the PC and installed to the computer again Photoshop CS5. Everything works for me except for the function of storing images for web by creating events. Called me constantly destination folder does not exist. The problem I had before. I ask you this advice on how to solve this problem.
    Thanks for the advice

    hi,
    i don't know if i integrate your code correctly, but it doens't work for me. I presently create skin for client and this plugin is really usefull for me.
    i use win7 64bit home edition, and photoshop cs5
    there is how i integrate this :
    // EDIT ALEX GRENIER
    function getPreferencesFolder() {
         var userData = Folder.userData;
         if (!userData || !userData.exists) {
              userData = Folder("~");
         var folder = new Folder(userData + "/xtools");
         if (!folder.exists) {
              folder.create();
         return folder;
    function exportChildren(dupObj, orgObj, dupDocRef, folder) {
    if (getCSVersion() >= 10) // CS3 Only
         // Create assets folder in Flex app's directory
         // var tempFolder;
         // tempFolder = new Folder (folder + "/assets/");
         // tempFolder.create();
         // EDIT ALEX GRENIER
         var tempFolder;
         tempFolder = getPreferencesFolder();
    i put the code creating the folder in comment and put your code in place, i also put your function before the function creating file.
    With the base code (without modification) photoshop is able to create my folder assets, but when it try to export the png, it export nothing, so i have a empty folder.
    thank you,
    Alex

  • Background saving does not work in background when it is part of an action

    I LOVE the new background saving function. I do agree with a nother post that it would be nice to have some kind of progress bar when in full screen mode though.
    The other thing I noticed is that if you make an action that has a "Save" command in it, it will NOT do that in the background but rather in the way of previous versions, with the progress bar window pop-up.

  • Background saving bug CS6 (stalls)

    Background saving bug CS6
    Problem:
    1. Was Editing a rather large and complex file, 16bit, 1,6GB
    2. Pressed ctr+s to save the progress
    3. Immediately launched a 3rd party plugin, Niksoft Define 2 (I mean with two keyboard shortcuts in a row, within seconds of each other)
    4. Plugin started
    5. Background saving got stuck at 0% and went nowehere as the plugin launched.
    6. No progress on the background saving after the plugin exited, and not able to save as a new file because PS said it was already saving the file. After 20 minutes still no progress. Taskmanager showed PS using 0% CPU and no disk i/o activity even though it stated it was saving.
    Workaround
    1. Duplicated the entire psb to a new file inside photoshop.
    2. Saved and it worked fine.
    3. Had to terminate photoshop via the task manager as it wouldnt let me exit "before file saving was complete".
    My workflow here was probably a bit quick and "incosiderate", but I would still consider this behaviour  a PS bug - I mean whats the use of background saving if it stalls when you are doing other tasks. Anyone else experienced this?
    (OS W7 x64+PS CS6 EXT)

    I have experienced this bug many times and it is very frustrating. There is no pattern to when it will happen it just happens out of the blue, I work full time commercially in 8, 16 and 32 bit regularly, file sizes averaging 5gb sometimes much larger and the bug has occurred in all these instances. I have however made these observations:
    The original PS version with bg save had this fault and to my knowledge there was no easy work around apart from a very laborious process of Scripts/Export layers to files. Any duplication and resave of the document did not work as it was held in a queue behind the first file stuck on 0%
    The next version of PS, CC and possibly first release of 2014, had a work around as suggested by someone else, by simply duplicating the file and saving. This would then jump the queue of the first file which was stuck on 0%.
    The latest version of CC 2014 updated a couple of days ago has resorted to the first patten, i.e. duplicate and save but stuck in the queue, thus no work around.
    This is a very serious problem which has gone on a bit too long. I am prompted to write this because it happened to me again last night whilst working on a 6gb 32bit render layer file, costing me a fair bit of time and effort on a commercial job.
    I always use bg save and 10mins recovery, when the problem occurs I am able to use PS as if nothing has happened but unfortunately cannot save, I am thus forced to force quit the application. Unfortunately in this instance the force quit is not seen by PS as a crash and therefore offers no file recovery. What I think we need is the following:
    The ability to force abort a save of the stuck file so that we can save another.
    The ability to access background saved files even if PS has not actually crashed, this would have saved me last night.
    In addition, a 5-10gb file takes a while to background save, during this save I cannot make a smart object. I would like to be able to pause a save so that I can make the smart object and then carry on my work whilst the save continues. This applies to recovery save also.
    Adobe please help us out and address the problem.
    Many thanks, Mark.

    Did you try to build the application (Project->Build in Visual Studio) ? If the error doesn't go away then and you have no other compilation errors (if you do you need to fix these first), you should replace "FolderExplorer" with the namespace
    in which the Folder class resides. If you haven't explicitly declared a namespace, you will find the name of the default namespace under Project->Properties->Root namespace. Copy the value from this text box to your XAML:
    xmlns:my="clr-namespace:FolderExplorer"
    The default namespace is usually the same as the name of the application by default so if your application is called "FolderExplorer" you should be able to build it.
    If you cannot make it work then please upload a reproducable sample of your issue to OneDrive and post the link to it here for further help.

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

    Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
    I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
    If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
    Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

    DrewPowell wrote:

    It does both at the same time.
    When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
    You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
    This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
    I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
    Then there are no "extra" files around.

  • File or Folder does not exist

    I'm having a wierd problem with a png image which generates an error in my script.
    I'm building a UI using the group constructor, here is the line code I'm using to load the image:
    myImg:Image{text:'',image:'(image_folder)/image.png', alignment:['left','top']}
    The script runs with one image but not another one which is also a png of the same dimensions, bit depth etc. For some reason I get the 'file or folder does not exist' error message. If I replace the image with a known good one the script works.
    I've re-generated the image a dozen times. Still no joy.
    I'm not a total noob, though I infrequently write scripts and am completely prepared to learn I've made totally maverick error.
    Any thoughts?

    myImg:Image{text:'',image:'(image_folder)/image.png', alignment:['left','top']}
    I'm assuming that "(image_folder)" is a placeholder or variable and you are concatinating for the file path to the image? When checking file paths for images or what not, I usually try...
    alert(File.decode(File.openDialog()));
    ...to verify that my path is correct. Sometimes there's a extra slash or something I am missing.

  • Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

    (Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
    We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
    Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
    \\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
    Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:"  in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
    Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".
    Thank you so much.

    There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
    I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
    Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

  • Help! Order of photos in a Folder does not match order of albums

    I have seen dozens of threads on folders and albums, sorting them etc. However did not quite find an answer to this one.
    The question is : Why the order of photos in a Folder does not match with the order of Albums I have created underneath the Folder?
    In other words I created a floder and placed within the folder a few albums we will call G, K, C ...etc in the chronological order in which I want to show the pictures. The pictures within the album are not strictly chronological. ( I will explain more if this is an issue)
    Next when I click on the Folder, I notice that the photos are grouped by the corresponding Album which is what they should be, however their(photos) order did not correspond to that of the Albums. In other words, in the Folder view, I see photos of K first and then may be G and then may be C. I am not able to change that order to G, K, C..the way I want. This will mess up the slideshow for me.
    For clarity, I created each album simply by dragging corresponding event down into the Folder. The events are sorted by date and ascending in View>Sort Events.
    I appreciate any suggestions please!
    Thanks

    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
    or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try the slideshow again.
    NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
