I would like to file a complaint through this community regarding my encounter with the Apple Hardware Repair Service in HongKong involving both Apple Technical Support in Hong Kong (Tel: 2112 0099) andAuthorized Service Provider - Wah Fung Computer Services Limited.
For background information, I had purchased my Macbook Air 11" (Late2010) at the end of October 2010 in Hong Kong (with valid purchase receiptstill with me). The machine to this date is still under the standard one yearwarranty. I am one of the first to pre-order this machine when it was firstannounced back in late 2010 and waited for the pre-order to arrive for 3 weeks.So you can see how much desire and hope I had on this machine.
Just about 1 and a half week ago, the MBA screen failed. About 50% of thescreen turned bright white, while the rest of the screen is still displaying.It just happened overnight with shutting down the MBA, closing the lid and thescreen failed the next day when being turned on. At this point, I must stress that the condition of my MBA is as follow:
- No scratch, no cracks and no dent on the monitor lid and the rest of theMBA body;
- No scratch, no cracks and no dent on the monitor glass;
- No scratch, no cracks and no dent on the inner surface, i.e. keyboard;
- No visual damage or any sort;
- No dropping or no sign of any impact suffered; (Again no cracks ordented surface);
- No water damage;
Unfortunately, when I bring this failed machine to Wah Fung Computer ServicesLimited (Authorized Service Provider in Hong Kong) for carry out repair worksthat is covered by warranty, Wah Fung had informed me that they considered themachine had suffered "physical damage" and whether the machine isconsidered under warranty is out of their jurisdiction. Hence they advised meto contact "Apple Technical Support Hotline of Hong Kong - Tel: 21120099" to explain to the representative regarding my case for their followup. Despite disappointment on the Authorized Service Provider, who had notproactively follow up on my case and instead "kick" the responsibilityball to the Apple Technical Support Team, I nevertheless had gone through thetrouble to contact them to explain my case. The first time I contacted Apple Technical Support is on July 18, 2011, I explained my case and the representative informed me that she will get back to my by Wednesday (July 20).
On July 21, the same representative called me back, again informing methat the machine had suffered “physical damage", which had not seen or comeinto contact with my MBA. I again need to explain to her that my MBA had notsuffered any scratch, cracks or dent or even any sign of physical damage. Therepresentative then transfer my line to "Customer Care and RelationsRepresentative", which basically throughout our whole conversation had continuouslyto repeat the phase " physical damage" without offering any customercare at all. This Customer Care Representative, who again had not seen or comeinto contact with my MBA, had informed me that the Technical Engineers in UShad made the "final" judgment that my MBA had suffered "physicaldamage". And so how did the US Technical Engineers came to this"final" judgment?? The Customer Care Representative told me that thisjudgment was made from by looking at "PHOTOS" given to them by thestaff in Wah Fung Computer Services Limited (Authorized Service Provider inHong Kong). So again the US Technical Engineers, who had not seen or come intocontact with my MBA, had came up to the "final" judgment that my MBAhad suffered physical damage and then telling me to pay $6300 HK dollars(approx. 808 US dollars) to repair the monitor while a new 11"inch 64GBMBA is costing $7688 HKD ($999 USD) The Customer Care Representative cannotexplain or proof to me the cause of the physical damage, according to her, thisis because all the people and engineers, who most of them had not even physicalseen, examine the MBA had said that it is cause by physical damage.
To be honest, if I had crashed, hit, hammered, or accidental dropped orimpacted, water damaged my MBA in any sort of way or if the warranty had beenexpired, I am willing to accept it as physical damage and pay this money to getmy MBA repaired or consider other option to get a new one. However, without anyphysical or visible damage (or any damage mentioned above) of any kind, andwith the MBA still under warranty, but I am still being accused of implyingphysical damage on the machine without any evidence and need to pay huge sumsof money for its repair, then I am really disappointed with Apple's service andthe so called "warranty". Every hardware product can basically haveno warranty, because every failure as defined by Apple can be"physical damage" that may occur without any impact, scratch, dent orcracks, no matter it is hardrisk or motherboard, whatsoever; even it may havemanufacture defects or latent defects. So what’s good with the warranty andApple care plan??
I hereby summaries my points as follow:
1) No physical damage on the machine, no scratch, no cracks and no dentetc;
2) The people and technicians who refuse to repair my MBA and decline itsvalid warranty for repair service, calling this as the "final judgment", had NOT physical seen orexamined my MBA and so called "final judgment" are made by photos;
3) No proof on the machine had suffered physical damage, why it is not manufacturerdefects??;
4) Authorized Service Provider and Apple Technical Support Hotline bothkicking the ball to each other on the repair service
I sincerely seek the community attention on this matter as it had beenfustrating communicates with the Authorized Service Provider and AppleTechnical Support Hotline in Hong Kong. I hope Apple can look into the situation, examine the machine to realize that it had not suffered any damage and offer me the repair service which I am entitled to under warranty.

1) I am having trouble with an excel file wanting to save when no changes were made. As soon as you open the file and exit. It prompts for a save.
All excel versions are 15.0.4701.1002.
Using a table.
the functions CELL, OFFSET, TODAY, INDIRECT, NOW, INFO and RAND are not being used.
2) Same file. 2nd person is being told they are opening the file as read only - but when they are quitting excel prompts them to save the file.
Everything was working fine. I started having problems with Excel, IT wiped my version out and re-installed office.
File is on networked server HP - Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
We are all on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I really hope someone can help - the excel expert had no answer - and passed me along to here.

I copied the whole file and started deleting worksheets one at a time and testing it by closing it and re-opening it then closing it again – to see if it wanted to save.
Once all the pivot tables were deleted – the problem went away.
I found that some of the pivot tables had automatic refresh upon open, so this caused the excel to think data had changed.
It is fixed now. By clicking on one cell of the pivot table, analyze, options, data and uncheck the 3<sup>rd</sup> square down to not automatically refresh. NOT A NETWORK ISSUE.

How do I correct the error message "an error occured while downloading....dismiss"

I recently started receiving the error message "an error occurred while downloading" on an intermittent basis when trying to download pictures in some of my Yahoo groups using Yahoo mail. When it occurs the only way to clear the error message is to click on a highlighted "dismiss" [a term I had never seen used before these error messages started] which shows after the error message.
When the error shows for one pic in the posting it will show for all the pics in that post. When the error occurs for an individual pic it will also show up if you try to "download all".
These errors will show up for a posting sent from the same sender via one email group while not for the exact same email sent to another group. It is not restricted to an individual who is posting or a specific Yahoo group and appears to be truly random.
Recently I found an example of the same error message in a posting from a Yahoo group in my Gmail account as well so it is not restricted to Yahoo mail alone.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?....Does anyone know how to fix it?

Hi saxxy60, I have not encountered this error before, but I have when the internet connection is lost in the middle of the download. You can try to get more elaborate errors if you try to reproduce the issue with an HTTP traffic capture.

The epic story First; Then the happy ending at the end of the tribulation?
I have recently upgrade to BtInfinity Option2 and had already a hh3 wich the BT engineer sayd was just fine for the job; I had a exellent speeds of about 75 Mbps up and 20Mbs down aon cabled connection and 35-45 Mbps up and abut 11 Mbps on Wireless connection to the HH3 also my Home Network was working without faults! But this lasted only for about 2-3 weeks!
The HH3 started to go crazy it would reset and restart by it own accord quite often speed dropped to only about 13 up and 1 Mbps down on wireless altough the cable connection was consistent in reaching the same good results as before Home Network was not a problem ever! Phoned BT Customer Service they made me made what they call a " Power cycle" of the sboxes on the wall, HH3, PC reboot etc.. all on the phone and all the procedure took ages! This did Not solve the problem, as a matter of fact at times was getting even lesser speeds on wireless and the HH3 was still going crazy resetting and restarting on its own; Home Network and cable was fine all the time, So I went to another call to BT and got the same results and procedure to go trough "Power Cycle"; the wireless speed and HH3 problem was never resolved! The BT people told me that after all I was getting what should be expected that my cable connection was fine and that probably the fault was on the wify Lan card on my Pc. but it was the same with my other pc and laptop connection!
So I thought that the problem was on The HH3 and decided to order and buy a HH4 and the Broadcom USB dongle to connect with it! BT Never offered me to exchange the Modem for free as I think I was entitled even because the installation date came on the dates they offer a Free HH4 for Upgrading to BTInfinity.
Got the new HH4 and USB dongle delivered, got them installed and powered up as per instructions, and BINGO!!!
Tested and now getting same speeds either by cable or wireless trough the Broadcom USB dongle!! 75 Mbps Down and about 19-20 Mbps Up!!! Hurray!!
But after that discovered and noticed other problems: The Home Network was no Longer working!
I went trough all the setting in the Networking Sharing Settings and every thing was alrigth just the same settings as always and before..the only thing different was that my PC was not Broadcasting on the Home Network, Invisible to all my other devices!
Went to check the wireless settings on my PC and noticed that my old connection trough the Network with my PC Wify card was still there even if not conected, I decided to connect that instead of the Dongle provided and bougth for The HH4 and presto My Home Network appeared again, so as last test went to test wireless speeds and was still better than with the HH3; About 20 Mbs Down and 11 Mps Up good, but not as fast as with Broadcom USB dongle!
At this point I plugged the Dongle again and noticed that both the Pc Wify card and the Dongle were broadcasting to the same HH4 at the same time another decided to connect both to see if they connected, and they did!!
Guess what: Now I got the Maximum Speed of 75-76 Down the Home Network working just fine!
Hope Is going to stay like this for at least 2 years now! BT Infinity looks Great now!
PS:
Another little issue: with use the Dongle gets very hot, and when is too hot the speed drops dramaticcaly to about alf the speed, but if you let it cool down for a minute is going to function just fine again, at the same time I never loose connection because still got the PC Wifi card to connect when I want or need anyway!

I finally got my DCR-HC21 to work a few weeks ago by
unplugging all of the cables connected to my iMac G5,
waiting 4 minutes and then plugging everything back
in. It worked perfectly right after that.

Having trouble with a audio file. Need help please!

This may sound funny and not to related to any of this at first, but if anyone here knows about the game portal, then they know about the ARG that went on during last week and may even still be continuing. None of thats really important but if anyone cares to know, basically VALVe released a new update with 30 new sounds, 26 of them moarse code/sstv pictures. 3 of them called dinosaur_fizzle 1 2 and 3. Infact, each one was named dino_1 dino_2 and so on.
The main sound that no ones been able to crack is called Dinosaur_noise. Its obvious there are voices in it and its some sort of major clue, this file is way out of league with the other ones. No ones solved it 100% or cleaned it enough to make basically anything audible.
Now this started March 1st. Since then i have worked hours on the audio file. I have gotten close, but not close enough.
Thats why im turning to someone here, that can do a through analysis of the audio that adobe or reaper just cannot do.
In the attachments is the original file itself with no editing what so ever.
Heres some collected data.

Heres what i know personally.
-Noise reduction makes it a lot worse and adds strange harmonics and artifacts.
-Most filters do the same.
-Clear voice around 15 that says THATS AMAZING.

What you are asking for is very unclear. Why do you even want to do a "thorough analysis of the audio"? No one is going to do your project for you.

I upgraded Lion recently to 10.7.3. Since that time I am having trouble with my wireless connection. All other devices are fine, but I keep losing the connection since the upgrade.

I received the same error message after I had recently updated iTunes to 10.5.1 and I had wirelessly updated 13 apps. I had to go into iTunes and select Apps, on the bottom right it said I needed to update 13 apps. I updated the apps via iTunes and then synced again without an issue.

Yeah, I couldn't think of another way to get you straight to the actual XML file. I guess what you are saying is that Google Drive does not have an appropriate server, which is why it gives https instead of http as a head.

Having trouble with DVD Video files. Please Help! :)

Hi I recently got a film DVD I wanted to take a clip off. However although I can watch the section I want in Windows Media Player, when I import the film into Premiere - some of it is missing! there are 4 files '4-1',4-2','4-3',4-4' which make up the movie. I can load them all in but 4-3 is missing the last 15-20 minutes, even though I know its there - cos this file is the same size as the previous one which is full length. Does anyone know why this would be? The DVD is unencrypted.
Please help - its quite annoying that the small section of film I want is the bit that won't appear! Thank you very much

Based on this one line:

I was assuming that it was not protected. However, as you point out, some aspects might be, and the OP might not be completely aware of this.
If there is protection, I strongly urge anyone to respect that, regardless of their intended use of the material. Copy protection is there for a very good reason. Regardless of what one might be able to do, they should be 100% ethical, and honor any/all copy protection. This is true for material from a videographer, or from a commercial studio. Should you need to use the material in such a DVD-Video, you should contact the author to get first permission, and then the original source material, that has not undergone the MPEG-2 compression to DVD-Video.
Again, I assume that the OP knows that this is NOT an issue, and will not figure into the problem. In that case, all above does NOT apply in this case, but some other reader might make note of it.

I often proof my work in preview then edit images in photoshop and rename from there. The dsc images are renamed to correlate the name of the class etc. i.e. dcs_001 is saved as the file name required 7A.jpeg etc.
The file names are required to correlate what is what and so on..........
