Toast 6 Problems

I know these forums don't tend to address 3rd party app problems, but I can't seem to find a solution elsewhere.
First of all, after years of struggling with my long-in-the-tooth G3 imac, I am getting a new 17" core duo imac tomorrow (YAY!!) and I was hoping to install Toast 6 onto it. I tried copying it to my old computer so that I could put it into a folder that I have created to copy to the new machine, but when I tried to copy it off the CD, I got the following alert:
"the alias "butterlib" cannot be copied to theis destination because it doesn't support the alias."
I have found a couple of references to this dialog box on the net but no solutions. I'm assuming this file is in the Toast package file because after I abort the copy, the toast app is there on the desktop, but it has a generic app and will not load. The extra software (CD Spin Doctor etc.) won't copy properly either.
I'm pretty sure the CD is not corrupted or damaged because I can open toast from the CD and it loads perfectly.
Can anyone help me? Maybe I could copy the folder in terminal, would this help? (If so, can someone give me directions on how to do that as I've forgotten what little I knew about UNIX)
Ben

Toast 6 may not run on your Intel Mac. I don't know if anyone has tried it, though you can ask on the Intel Mac forums like the MacBook Pro and iMac Early 2006 forums on this board. According to the two Rosetta compatible listings I know of on the web, they mention that Toast 7 though is compatible, but nothing of Toast 6:

  • Burning a bluray :fcp or toast problem?

I have recently bought a lacie Blu ray drive to burn my films on to blu ray disc.
I tried my first one and previewed the film in toast , all seemed fine.
One unusual thing, it asked me to convert my NTSC film into PAl. This film was shot entirely on A Pal camera and all my setting in FCP are set to PAl.
MORe importantly the finished disc when played on my PS3 did not work. THe menu screens popped up fine but the film was just one black screen with no content whatsoever.
I don't know if this a problem with toast or FCP which is why Im posting here. Also because every time i try to register on the toast forum I get this message:
"The registration code did not match the one displayed, a new code has been generated, please try again"
Ive tried again about a sqillion times and a ready to explode.
If any one has had either of these problems please help

I Imported my quick time movie into toast, checked the preview was ok , it was. Then a message popped up and said your movie is in NTSC (it is not) would you like to convert it to PAL? so I clicked yes and let it burn. It confirmed that the disc was completed successfully and showed that the 5.8 gigs of material had been written to the disc.
When I popped into my PS3 to play , the PS3 showed the menus fine but when the film played just a black screen came up, although it showed a bar which stated the correct running time of the movie.

  • Toast problems

    Hi
I am using EyeTV to record VHS tapes (PAL) to my mac then using toast to burn them to DVD.
Now, I just burnt a DVD and when I put it in my DVD player the picture works, but there is no sound. When I run it in my mac however, it is fine--I get sound and picture.
Is there a way to fix this? It is quite urgant.
    Thank you
    Cjbates

yes, for some reason that I haven't figured out yet, it is supposed to be empty.
The only other thing I can think of is that the software (iEye TV?) that you are using isn't properly converting the files to DVD format that a DVD stand-alone player can read but your mac can. I think that Toast just burns the files to the DVD.
I don't have any experience yet with it (need to get myself a faster computer!), but perhaps you need a program like iDVD (Apple) or Popcorn (roxio)?
You might try going over to the Roxio forums like Templeton Peck suggested and post your questions there. I've had to do the same and I've gotten some great ideas there.
    Good Luck!

  • SL Toast 10 still problems

When I just had my Imac for some time with only Leopard installed I purchased Toast 10 from Roxio.
I can not remember any problems using the program in these earlier days.
Recently I had many problems with this program.Unstable connection messages,-50 error messages.Unable to write and so on.I have installed 3 upgrades for the Toast 10 program and still all drama. One of the solutions I found was connecting an external DVD writer .Much to my surprise the program works without any hick up.I wonder how other users go.From what I see lots of problems everywhere.I am not too happy to be obliged to use my external solution.
If you are also a user of Toast 10 and Imac SL did you solve the issue?
Today again I could not complete a DVD with internal nor external DVD drive.
Connection not stable ,error-50 other error.I have now just restarted the computer and try to make a DVD with my external writer again. This problem drives me crazy oh what could it be that I can not make my DVD's anymore!!!

I am writing this answer to myself and anybody having toast problems.
First it is all very much quality of the dvd material and I found this amongst others to describe.
    http://vimeo.com/groups/gwv/forumthread:13332
I have also followed the advise to first save as image and had no failure since.
From Iphoto slide show I used the bottom export option.
    The videos I get are H 264 with Audio Mpeg-4. ( format 864x540)
I am happy to tell that my problems are solved and I have written many success full DVD's again

  • Burning photo CD with Toast Titanium 7

I tried to post to Roxio discussions, but there was very little Mac activity there, so even though this is probably as much a Toast problem as a Mac one, I'm hoping someone can help me. I also tried to download the "patch" Titanium 7.0.1 but failed (that's a 66MB file and my internet connection is dial-up).
I'm trying to burn jpegs created in PhotoShop CS onto a CD-R or RW. Of the 36 jpegs, a few of them turn up as readable openable jpegs, but most come through as applications my computer doesn't recognize. There's also a bewildering array of other files turning up on the burned CD that I never put there, e.g, a folder marked "SEGMENT" full of ITEM0001.DAT; files called VCD, CDI, MPEGAV.
Here's what I've tried so far: change name of photo; try jpg and jpeg; try no after-the-period abbreviation; shorten name of photo still more by using a single-digit number (with and without .jpg).
Here's the most common "Kind" listed on these unreadable CDs: "Unix Executable File."
Roxio has been basically a non-stop headache. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion to burn the disk using the finder. However, when i insert a blank CD into the (La Cie) burner, the disc doesn't show up on the desktop. I can open iTunes and click Burn Disc, and it will burn. Or I can open Toast and drag files there for burning, but that's it.
    Other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • No Toast after 10.4.4 ?

Folks ... I have reinstalled & updated Toast to 6.1.1.
I have a LaCie DVD/CD RW burner and an old QUE!Fire CD burner.
Both are Firewire and both have been working perfectly.
Both appear to start to burning process just fine ... and then after "Verifying Items" ... nothing but the spinning color wheel appears and spins & spins.
It is as if the program hangs up.
All of the computers I have access to have already been upgraded to 10.4.4 and are working flawlessly otherwise.
    So what gives !!
    ---alan

One thing you can always rely on is deleting the preferences and trying to run it again. You should have a couple of files in your home directory Library/Preferences: com.roxio.Toast.plist and maybe also Roxio Toast Prefs . Move those to another location, also check the systems preferences directory , /Library/Preferences/
Also, try burning a disk in finder to determine whether the problem is with your drive and tiger.... or.. whether it's a toast problem.

  • IMOVIE DVD RECORDING PROBLEM

I use Toast 8 to burn DVDs on my Intel iMAC 24" after editing and saving movies in iMovie HD 6.
When I drag the final edit version of an iMovie project to Toast's video pane for recording, a number of earlier saved versions of the same project also load - which I thought had been automatically 'trashed' by Mac/iMovie once a new edit had been saved? (and I cannot find these versions anywhere on the Mac, they only 'extract' and appear in the Toast pane).
So, I then have to identify the latest one listed in the Toast pane (by date and time), out of maybe four or five, and clear the rest before starting record.
How can I load only the final edit version without earlier versions irritatingly appearing in the pane (as if by magic from nowhere)?
Is this a Mac/iMovie or a Toast problem, or have I just missed out somewhere?

Thanks, but iMovie Help doesn't appear to give this advice (?), in fact it says iMovie projects can be exported direct to iDVD (?). I am using Toast, not iDVD, but why is there a difference here?
Also, as said, occasionally some footage does 'strange' things when converted to QT.
Example: Footage transferred from a visually pulsating image (originated on a 1920s 30 line mechanical TV scanner invented by J L Baird) has an acceptable rippling effect seen in iMovie. When converted to a QT (full quality) file the rippling becomes a rapid strobing flicker, ie something is changed in conversion. DVDs made from each - one from iMovie and from QT conversion - produce the same effects.
Any info on what happens in conversion to QT causing such a problem?

  • Quicktime TOAST VIDEO CD export, mpg files, audio sync out

I used the TOAST VIDEO CD option from my FINAL CUT PRO 3.0 version to make mpg videos to upload to my website, so it seems to be the easiest format where a PC platform and MAC platform can both run this file...
well lately, i can't remember what i've changed, if anything, but the files that I export, become out of (audio) sync when they become mpgs. However, I can do mp4 and its fine, or any other format. But when I do video toast cd (.mpg), and I play the file on the laptop, its audio is out of sync. I am running QT 7.0.1 downgraded from 7.0.4, that i was using earlier... with Final Cut Pro 3.0, and running Mac OSX 10.3.9
please someone help me with this, its driving me nutso!
    please

It sounds (no pun intended) like a Toast problem.
QuickTime doesn't export to MPEG-1 or 2 formats and it isn't involved with the conversion. Maybe you can find an answer in a Toast user forum (if any).
I've never had any issues using the steps you use but my conversions were from original QT formats (not .avi) and the files were under 5 minutes.

  • Quicktime 5.1 audio merge error?

    Hi everyone,
I need advise with a problem using Quicktime 7 Pro's audio features.
There seems to be a problem merging two mov files:
I merged two movs, they both have the same setup of 5.1 audio, each in one audio track, same channel order (as checked using cmd + j - audio settings).
The second mov has got an additional audio track with stereo (lt/rt) information. I deleted the additional track before merging. Then I exported the audio as AIFF and it shows correct 5.1 audio in the film inspector window. Finally I burned the video and audio file on a blu ray disc using Toast.
To my surprise, the audio displayed by my soundsystem is 5.1 for the first minutes and switches to stereo, after the point I merged the movs.
I got a lack of understanding here, maybe it is a Toast problem, but I wanted to ask for advise here, too. Maybe I made an error merging the files.
    Thanks in advance, cheers

    JediVaidez,
Sorry, for not getting back to right away. Spent the last few days on Black Sea. In Istanbul it was 35 degrees Celsius in the shade so some cool off time in the sea was needed.

    The microphone site is...

I just searched the prices and this is what I found.
    H2-PRO 7.1 Surround Microphone
    $5,670
    Captures 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound.
    Requires phantom power.
Includes cable with 8 XLR outs.
    H3-D 5.1 Surround Microphone
$1,602 Captures 5.1 surround sound. Requires phantom power.
Includes 5m cable with 6 XLR outs.
H4 Super Mini 5.1 Surround Microphone
    $2,358 Camera-mount mic.
    Uses 4 AA batteries.
    Outputs 2-ch.
Dolby Pro-Logic encoded audio or 6 outs via 3 stereo mini jacks.
I found these prices on Saved By Technology's website (http://www.savedbytechnology.com/main/productsus.htm) They are in US dollars.
Then I get the gear I will post some examples and how-to details on the web.
I use Digital Performer to edit my final audio sequence and mix with a Tascam DM-24 digital mixer. You can mix with the program just fine but I like to push buttons and faders with my fingers, not a mouse. You could also use Sound Track Pro or even FCP. Use Compressor to encode your AC3 file for the DVD.
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to burn long movie on Bluray

Longer movies, edited in FCP , converted to QT, won't burn on my external bluray LG-burner. Short movies: no problem.
I get this error code from Toast 10:
    - The drive reported an error
    - Sense key = medium error
    - Sense Code = 0x10
    - Invalid block size for command.
Does anyone know what this means and how to solve the problem?

and I adressed this forum because it is definitely a Mac related problem. < </div>
Maybe, that's just your best guess at the moment.
it's not aht we don't want to help but it's not related at all to FCP. It's a Toast problem because that's the application you have chosen to attempt to burn BD content. FCP gave you the file yo needed to move to Toast, yes?
Contact Toast. But since you've started this thread, when you figure it out, please come back and tell us what you found out form Toast that helped you solve the problem. That will give us some information to help future Toast issues and provide a thread that will pop up in Toast/Blu-ray searches.

  • How to burn with DVDSP

Hi chaps, you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems, I have still not resolved the burning with Toast problems but as an alternative I thought I'd try burning in DVDSP however when I hit the 'burn' icon a message appears " Formatting successful formatting finished" what am I doing wrong (forgive my ignorance, I have been handed this project and know very little about DVDSP) Regards and have good weekends Roger

you may have spotted my other post outlining my problems,< </div>
    Negative, not a clue.
A project that DVDSP interprets as already burned wither has no elements or has, in fact, been burned.
Try saving your project under a new name or making a duplicate of it at the Finder level. You want to maintain it s assets but you want to discard or at disassociate its MPEG and PAR files. You can do that a couple of different ways but the easiest might be to find them and place them in a trash before you launch DVDSP or, if you don't like that idea, copy the MPEG and other DVD encodes to a another drive and discard the originals.

  • IDVD and Toast-anyone else had this problem?

I apologize for the long post, but it is necessary to explain the situation.
I have made 4 projects in iDVD6, 2 SL, 2 DL with no problems. I edit in imovie, send to idvd, then make images which I burn with toast (though I know it is not recommended for the DL). I have not had a single problem....until 2 days ago.
I have created a 5th project, a DL, in the exact same way. The problem this time is that when I try to burn it with toast, I get this error:
    Sense code = illegal request
    Sense key = 0x26
    Invalid field in parameter list
The toast people have been no help. They say it's just a problem with the image file. I have re-encoded it 4 different times (14 hours a pop!), to no avail. I was able to burn one of them with disk utility, but it no longer will . The image mounts and plays just fine on my mac.
So....I tried burning straight from iDVD. I get the "multiplexing" barber pole for awhile, then it says "finished recording", spits out the disk (still blank) and just freezes. I have to force quit.
I have tried trashing preferences, repairing permissions, all the suggestions I have seen in these forums and nothing is helping.
Thanks for bearing with me through that explanation. Is there anyone who can offer any suggestions? I would be forever grateful!
Emac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5) LaCie external dual layer

Yes, my chapters follow those rules. The image file is 7.6 GB and I have 30 GB free on my startup disk. If it matters, I always encode onto and burn from an external hard drive. I am starting to wonder if my drive is the culprit. I went back and tried to re-burn old images that previously burned fine and am getting the error with those, too. I am going to try to get some input from the LaCie folks, too.
If anyone has anymore suggestions, I would be grateful.

  • Problem with iphoto, printer, and toast

Can someone direct me to a discussion on this topic. I seem to have a driver problem or something...when I go to print anything, from any program, said program crashes.
Toast titanium won't open properly, and then won't even force quit no matter what I do.
Iphoto won't add to library anymore.
My Sibelius lost all it's fonts, and I'm sure there are a few more things I haven't even noticed yet. They all happened at the same time which is why I reckon they're all the same problem.
I'm running an Imac g5, so I know it's old! Also- I cannot locate the original cds that would let me do a reinstallation. Is there somewhere I can get them?
Oh I hope someone somewhere still running pre intel reads this.

Try running a reset printing system. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Then hold down the Control key and click your mouse in the Printers list. A menu showing Reset printing system should appear. Click this.
Now restart your Mac and then add the Canon driver again. Hopefully this gets things working for you again.

  • Problem with file meta data in Toast

From a reply to my previous question, I learned that meta data in the file information window cannot be edited. Actually, I really want to get rid of this meta data (not just hide it), because in some cases it disturbs certain operations.
Assume the following situation: I have a file named "my song.aif", which I want to burn on CD using Toast. So I open Toast and shift the file with a mouse action into the Toast window. I expect the title of the track to be "my song", but the name of the track unexpectedly changes to say "Title 2". Checking the file information window of "my song.aif" I see that the extra information contains "Title: Title 2" (which possibly was added by itunes). Files without meta data like this retain their names in the above operation.
Since I would like to avoid editing the titles in the Toast window, I would appreciate hints on the problem.

You can't directly edit the metadata, but the application that created it obviously can, so it depends on the particular application. In this case, editing the song information in iTunes changes the metadata. Usually the song title is the same as the song name, but Toast might be looking at something like the ID3 tags. The ID3 tags are stored in the .mp3 file itself and not the metadata database - I am not sure what iTunes does with the ID3 tags (or what Toast is looking for), but you might try converting the tags.

  • IMovie audio problems when burning in Toast 6

    Hi,
i've tried to burn an imovie project in idvd 5 but i get 'the error #-1 was reported' like most people have been and i've tried loads of things suggested to fix it with no joy.
I then sent the imovie project to toast titanium 6 where it burned fine. However, when i watched it i noticed that although toast had picked up all the audio (both dv audio and aiff), it did not pick up all the volume adjustments during the movie. how annoying! for example: i have an aiff clip that fades into a movie clip with the sound gradually going down but Toast picks up the sound staying at the same level. this also happens with volume adjustments in a DV file.
Any suggestions why this happens / how i can fix it?
    Cheers,
    Andy

    Andy,
This question is really in the wrong place - this is the iDVD '08 forum and not the iDVD 5 forum.
From the description of your problem using Toast, it sounds like you didn't actually export a DV video movie out of iMovie.
Export a DV video movie out of iMovie (it will run 13 GB per hour) and play it back with the QuickTime Player to see if the audio settings you made are really there. If this movie plays OK, you can bring IT into iDVD or Toast for turning it into a DVD.
If the DV video movie you created STILL has audio problems in the QuickTime Player, ask you question about THAT issue in the correct iMovie forum.

  • Burning disk Problems. Toast/Compressor

So I'm burning a movie I made onto a DVD from a prores 422 quicktime file using toast and/or compressor and the disk is always messed up.
When burning with compressor the disk gets stuck about halfway through playback, after the burn is complete. I can skip past this part on my DVD player using by fast forwarding.
When burning with Toast the beginning of the movie on the disk skips frames or is pixelated for about 5 seconds. The rest of the movie plays fine and normal
    I'm using a samsung BD/DVD burner.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

This is hard because playback issues can be caused by a variety of things:including the physical media (which might be one defective disk, a batch, or just a sub-standard brand); or the DVD player; or an excessively high bit rate that the player can't easily read, or (less frequently) difficult content that the compression process had trouble encoding.
I would start by trying another player.
Since you did two separate burns, it's not a problem with a specific disk. But if switching players doesn't work, try a different brand – say, Verbatim, Maxell, or JVC Taiyo Uden.
If neither of the above works, then try a lower nit rate setting - say, 7.2 Mbs max, and perhaps put in a compression marker or two at the places in your movie where the playback freezes.
    Let us know.
