Toast 7 Disabling UOP's?!

So i came across something interesting today...
i completed a DVD-9 for a client and they requested a check disc - pre glass master.
naturally i used Toast 7. usually when i burn a DVD-5 i use the data tab with the UDF option checked and never had any type of problems. today however, i needed to burn a dvd-5 and used the video tab's "burn from a VIDEO_TS" option with the "compress if necassary" checked on.
nothing out of the ordinary happened, the disc played, everything was fine.
then i received the QC report, AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
all UOP's and some of scripts were not functioning correctly and my end actions in video were not jumping to the right menu buttons.
i thought maybe my project became corrupt, since it was pretty intense, so i rebuilt it from scratch.
same outcome when compressed using Toast 7 "burn from a Video_TS" option.
so i decided to to elimanate some video clips to make my project a DVD-5 and i burned using my Data > UDF option and everything worked! WTH!
of course, when i emulated from Apple Player and Simulator, everything worked fine. it was the burned disc that was the problem.
i first noticed something was wrong when the "Burn from the Video_TS" disregarded my JACKET_P from my original Disc Root. Once again, the SAME client noticed this!
so to sum it all up:
Video tab > "Burn from VIDEO_TS" disregards:
UOP's
JACKET_P
and some scripts (i have not checked for consistency, but i didnt notice a pattern of which it disregards)
i wonder what happens with ROM data?
by the way, i checked to see if anywhere there was the option in Toast 7 to actually disable certain things, NOPE!
this is off topic, but i emailed Roxio and wondered if they could (in their next major upgrade) actually let the user decided what VTS can be compressed, since it seems to do it to the largest VTS. sometimes, my project is minimally over (< 20megs but never > 200 [since sometimes clients love to add content the last minute]). in these instances, i would much rather compress the less important content (like bonus features) rather than the feature.
one thing i am unaware of though, does it compress only the video, or also the audio?
i guess just have more control over programs such as Popcorn, Toast 7 and similar programs.
anyway, this was information i thought i would share with you all
Mike

Hi Mark:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Since your software is new you might want to check with Roxio and see if they have any suggestions.
Good luck.

  • Using Next/Prev on Track with stories causes player to stop

I have a Track (125 mins long) with four clips in it.
I'm using chapter marks, a dual layer break mark and stories to either play all or each clips separately (with return to button selected.
Now, the navigation works fine, as long as you do not start to use the remote buttons Next or Previous. I want the user to being able to do this when the "Play all button" is selected. But eventually I end up playing my First Play or the player simply stops.
My current workaround is to disable UOP Next and Previous for my Stories.
I know that some DVD players "cheat" and allow the user to jump between clips and Tracks even if the navigation is properly set up.
Am I missing something here? Any tips are gratefully appreciated.

I figured this is what I have to do... too bad I didn't realised this when the project was still in develop... :-/
And sure, all the Tracks have their End jump set, and a Menu call set, too. The Title button is also set for the project (jumping to the title menu, accoring to which language choosen after First play).
And why the heck are the manufacturers making DVD players that does not follow the DVD standard???

    Hi indest,
I understand you and the users frustration. I agree that sometimes things just do not work as they should. Anyway, thanks for bringing up the issues. I'll need to check into the trackpad thread before escalate this case in full to engineering.
In regard to the WiFi issue, we had escalated this case much earlier but due to this model comes with different wifi card as well as situation changes based on different routers used, it was very difficult for the enginering team to pin point out the real root case. I'm sorry that it haas been dragged this long. But based on the information I have currently, our engineering team is testing on a beta driver provided by Intel and we're also trying to get affected machines as a sample for our further analysis. I'll need to catch up with a few folks in regard to this issue.

  • How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

    Dear Helpful Open Source people.
I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?
The button is shown in section 3 of "Open a Link in a New Tab" in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-tabs-firefox-android
PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.

  • Toast audio disc not read by other mac

I burned some CDs with Toast 10 Titanium for my disabled sister. The discs were burned from apple lossless rips I had in iTunes. Once burned they appeared on my desktop as an audio disc with the album title and the tracks appeared in iTunes. So, all good.
Unfortunately, after I gave the discs to my sister, it was found that one of the discs skipped. By the way, all the discs played on my sisters Sony mini system. I put the offending disc into my dads mini system downstairs and after reading the disc it said no disc. I then popped the disc into my dads iMac, my old G5 iMac. The iMac read the disc and then it popped up on the desktop as untitled. It also did not appear in iTunes. When I double clicked the desktop icon, an empty Finder windo opened. Get Info said it was an 8kb file. It basically looked like a blank disc! I'm confused. I tried another one too with the same result.
    What's going on?

You probably should take this question to the D-Link people, since we focus here on the MacBook Pro hardware.  My guess is that the CD is for a PC and not Mac, especially since it sounds old.
Apple's AirPort Extreme is your choice if you want to go Apple.  It's a typical Apple product.  Works perfectly (usually), does some cool things (I believe you can set up three separate signals for guests, etc), and easy to set up with a Mac.  Also, I find it incredibly easy to troubleshoot, but that's just me.  My only complaint is that it seems to have a slightly shorter range than other products, but I'm not sure I have evidence to back that up, so it's just an opinion.

  • Error Type 2 Installing Roxio Toast

I was able to find an old copy of Toast Titanium 5.2. It installed just fine on one of my Quicksilver G4s and burned CDs like a champ. The Graphite G4 I have though, it would not install Toast at all, I got an error message after clicking "I agree" on the agreement. I also tried installing another program and got the same error, so I know its not an issue with Toast. These are the errors that came up, at first it was Error Type 2, then switched to 1:
"The Application "Toast Titanium 5.2 Installer” has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 1 has occurred. You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer."
"The Application "Toast Titanium 5.2 Installer” has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 has occurred. You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer."
Both computers are on OS9.2.2, the Quicksilver has 768mb of ram and the Graphite has 448mb of ram I believe. I tried holding 'Shift' while booting to disable extensions, but got a different error, assuming it needed an extension. I went to the extension manager and set it to base extensions only, but had the same error. I only assume the installer package is corrupt or something. Any tips would be greatly appriciated!

And Im back ... I GOT TOAST INSTALLED! lol. Started disabling extensions, disabled the 9.2 extension set, restarted, got a 'interfacelib--getcomponentresource' error when opening the installer. Enabled the Quicktime extension set, restarted, and it worked! Was able to install and use Toast.
But one last problem that I discussed before which on a clean restart, I cant click on anything untill I force quit finder and let it reload. Ive narrowed the problem down to the Open Transport extension. With the extension off, everything is fine, with it on, same problem as described above. I know Open Transport has to do with networking and this computer is normally on a network with a server(currently not on that network). Is that extension completely neccissary? Thanks for all the help thus far!

  • No Auto-Update for To Do list, session message and toast message

After LC ES Server hardening, we noticed that auto-update is not working for To Do list, session message and new task notification toast message. Before server hardening, all of them are still working fine.
Does anyone know why auto-update is not working after server hardening? Is there any specific port numbers which need to be enabled/opened to solve this issue?

JGroups is an open source project that allows processes to send messages to one another. LiveCycle data services uses it for its messaging implementation (basically it configures the server to multicast messages to all the listening clients...even in a clustered environment across different LAN/WAN).
In most cases the default configuration will work fine, the problem is that if you are running a firewall on the server (or your local machine...i.e. windows firewall) the ports that JGroups uses for its communications can be blocked. In a local environment its easy enough to disable windows firewall and bounce your server to get things working.
In a production environment you need to open the ports that JGroups is using. These settings are in the Global Administration settings (as mentioned by WorkspaceUser above). If you export it and look at the JChannelConnectionProperties you'll see the ports its using and you can set your firewall to allow communication to those ports.

  • Opening .toast files causes my MAC to become unresponsive

    Hi,
My Macbook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2010 -  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 -  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB - Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)) has recently developed an extremely frustrating problem, it occurs whenever I try to open a .toast file, whenever I do my MAC just hangs and becomes so slow it is unusable and I end up having to power off manually.
I am a picture researcher so I often need to grab stills from my DVD collection. The way I like to work (which has always been the most effective and reliable means of doing my job up until last weekend) is to rip my DVDs, compress the TS folder to a single-layer DVD sized image file using Toast Titanium. I would then open the .toast file and transfer the compressed audio and video TS folders to a folder on my external hard drive. This has always been the best way for me to maintain a balance between image quality and file size.
Since last weekend however, when I was ripping and compressing about 15 discs toward the end of the session my MAC was unable to open .toast files without hanging for ages and becoming unresponsive.
I have since upgraded to Lion, upgraded to the latest Toast Titanium and upgraded my Little Snitch as I thought this could be causing the problem, but nothing has helped I still have the same problem.
If anybody has experienced this, can shed any light on what is happening and hopefully offer a solution to the problem I would be most grateful.
    Thanks is advance,
    Michael.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Possible attack on my network, fire wall is disabled and I can't turn back on!

I called iPhone customer service because my phones wi-fi is greyed out and they transferred me to a "network specialist" that said my computer's firewall has been disabled via a network attack and it would cost $1200 for him to fix remotely?  I called the 1-866 235-7733 customer service number at  www.techsupportcenter.org in which I thought was affiliated with Apple.  I tried calling the Iphone support number via the apple support number and I have to buy a $20 over the phone tech support session, what is going on with my Mac products?  I never had to worry about network/hardware corruption, thats why I have Mac products... maybe things have changed?

It's a scam,DO NOT give them access or you're toast, it's a variation of this...

  • Can I disable the audio pitch adjustment when using frame rate conversion?

We have a mov file containing digitized film material with audio scanned at 25 fps (1 frame film for 1 frame video) while the film should be 18 fps.
So both video and audio are too fast.
Compressor provides the framerate conversion so source plays at x frames per second.
This works well for video but the audio slowed down remains the pitch it has in the original speed. A great feature but an unwanted result in this case.
Audio should be at a lower pitch since it was recorded too fast.
Can we disable the pitch adjustment, when using rate conversion, so the pitch is corrected (lower) as well?

    Hi Jason
This does sound tricky - the only other suggestion that I can add to David's is to use the smallest GOP setting you can, I'm in PAL land so the default is 12frames but I push it down to 7, this forces more I-frames into your mpeg. It makes the file size higher but in a project your length it doesn't matter. Make sure you encode your audio to .ac3 (use the Dolby 2.0 preset in compressor). Although David's limit is 7.4, if I'm not playing back on a laptop I'll set my CBR to 8Mbps (in Compressor CBR is called 'one-pass').
Once you create your mpeg, play it back in Quicktime first to make sure there are no artifacts full screen (with Simulators reduced size sometimes artifacts exist in your orig mpeg that you may not notice).
Also as David said, DVDSP doesn't re-encode an existing mpeg so something else must be going on. Before you re-import your new mpeg, delete your DVDSP prefs and any menu mpegs that it has created.
If you have Toast, try just doing a Build, instead of Build & Format. This will give a VIDEO_TS folder that you can then burn in Toast. Use the Data tab and select DVD-ROM/UDF.
If this doesn't work I don't know what will.
    Good luck!

  • Disable file service in single user mode?

After a failed (with an error) attempt to install the latest security update, the iMac won't get past 'waiting for apple file service' during boot. I presume the botched install left something bad, so I'd just like to get it booted so I can retry the install to see if that fixes it.
Safe startup doesn't work - it just reboots part way through.
So I'm trying to figure out how to disable the service altogether, from single-user mode.
Does anyone know what file(s) I need to modify, or what 'defaults' incantations I need to do, to disable it?
    iMac G3, 600MHz Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I managed to disable it - moved the AppleShare folder out of /System/Library/StartupItems - but it just hung on some other service.
The CD/DVD drive is toast in this thing, so I can't boot from the O/S disks either. Target disk mode doesn't work either, even though it is supposed to for this model.
    I'm looking into netboot now.

  • Toast 5.2.3 Extension Conflict

Okay, just what was the extension that the Roxio Toast extension has historically conflicted with? I've been searching other sights, but I just can't seem to find the discussions on this topic.
    Thanks in advance.

Toast conflicts that I've seen discussed previously have involved the following extensions:
    Disc Burner Extension
    Authoring Support
    SDAP Authoring Support
    USB Authoring Support
    FireWire Authoring Support
Disabling all five permits the affected versions of Toast to work properly. I'm not sure whether or not Toast 5.2.3 is one of those versions.

  • DVDSP now using Toast - burn speed?

I just purchased Toast 7, so I could vary my burn speeds. I have had good success with DVDSP, but at times there are compatibility issues.
I moved my Video-TS folder into Toast 7, put in a Verbatim up to 8X DVD and when I tried to select the record speed options, my only options were
    Best
    4X
    8X
    etc...
I thought that I could burn slower than 4X, but it did not give me that option. I did notice before I put the DVD in, 1X was an option. Could it be my DVD?
Any thoughts? I would like to burn at a slower speed.
Oh and my drive is a Sony DVD RW-DW U21A
    Thanks!

It depends how you use Toast. Version 6.0.7 added the Video>Advanced>DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS option. This removes those files, the PAR folder etc for you and adds a AUDIO_TS folder too.
You'd be best off making sure the disc is region all, R7 is disabled by default, and then outputing an .img to use in Toast,
