Toast and DVDSP

Just a quick and easy (dumb) question.
I often see several of you menion that it is better to burn in Toast than in DVDSP. I am interested in buying Toast if that is true.
My question: how do the interfaces work together? When burning a DVD in Toast, do you just use the Video_TS folder created with DVDSP, or is there an option in DVDSP to burn with Toast after it is installed?
Thanks!
Mike

Mike:
The best workflow I found is Creating Disc Image in DVDSP and burning it with Toast. But you can burn the image file with Disk Utility too.
Another option is using the VIDEO_TS folder in the Video option of Toast to build a DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder.
There is no connection between DVDSP and Toast, you must use one after another, but using Toast you can set burning speed and set copy quantities.
You'll find a detailed description of the workflow in the link.
Besides that, Toast is a GREAT application.
Hope that helps !

    How do I make a blu ray DVD on my iMac? I have purchased TOAST and the blu ray discs, but now I find I need a third party software to do this? What kind or which software???

    Have no BD-Burner - but I think I tried to Save as a DiskImage of full movie in BD-Quality
    Roxio says:
    Drag, drop, burn
    Drag, drop, burn
    Toast 11 is the easiest and fastest way to burn your music, video, photo and data files on to CD, DVD or Blu-ray Disc™ for both Mac and PC. Archive up to 50 GB on high capacity Blu-ray Discs.
    Indicates to me that a full BD-movie could be burned as this.

  • Fotomagico and DVDSP

    Anyone currently using this combo to create a Slideshow > DVD?
    I'm currently using Fotomagico 2.2 Pro > iDVD ("Professional Quality" Setting in iDVD) and getting "decent" results when burning DVD's but I know this can be improved upon with perhaps a better process by using Compressor and DVDSP.
    Fotomagico has HD QT Export Settings of 720p and 1080p. Which produce an acceptable quality QT movie. I think I am unfortunately locked into the few Export settings they have.
    Here are the details of the HD 1080p HD QT Export as displayed from the QT Player Inspector:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz, H.264 Decoder, 1920 x 1080, Millions
    FPS: 30
    Data Rate: 8.42 mbits/s
    Normal Size: 1920 x 1080 pixels
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I want the least amount of loss when going from these Exported HD QT's > DVD. I know I will most likely not achieve a result that matches the original Exported QT file, I'm just looking to get as close as possible.

    Excellent, Thanks for the reply David.
    Definitely helpful and feel that gets me half way there at least understanding the overall concept of how to do this right.
    So once I have the Lossless Codec QT Movie exported from Fotomagico (ie. your recommendation of DVCProHD or ProRes HQ) This QT movie will be the best choice to load into Compressor to do the MPEG2 conversion for a DVD?
    As I understand it so far I want to do all my codecs/converting with Compressor before I load it into DVDSP as to avoid DVDSP doing any MPEG conversions esp. the MPEG2 conversion.
    If that is the case, what settings are wise to use in Compressor to do the DVCProHD > MPEG2 conversion/encode?
    Thanks for all the advice so far.

  • Send both Toast and Tile Notification simultaneously using Template feature of Notification Hub

    Hi, I am using WNS(Windows Notification Service) With Notification Hub to send Push Notifications to my WP 8.1 Application. I am basically sending localized notification using Template feature of Notification Hub. I have used Localized
    News example  reference for sending localized used.
    Here are my templates and how I am registering them, also How my Dictionary payloads look like :-
    Toast Template Method :-
    public static string GetToastText01Template(string param,string line1)
    return string.Format(@"<toast launch=""$({0})"">
    <visual>
    <binding template=""ToastText01"">
    <text id=""1"">$({1})</text>
    </binding>
    </visual>
    </toast>", param, line1);
    Tile Template Method :-
    public static string CreateSquare150_150BackgroundTextTemplateWns(string backText)
    return string.Format(@"<tile>
    <visual >
    <binding template=""TileSquarePeekImageAndText01"">
    <image id=""1"" src=""ms-appx:///ApplicationIcon_173_173.png"" alt=""alt text"" />
    <text id=""1"">$({0})</text>
    </binding>
    </visual>
    </tile>", backText);
    Registration With Notificaiton Hub (Part of Register Method basically) :-
    var toasttemplate = GetToastText01Template("NavigateToPageUri" ,GetToastCultureKey(culture));
    await _hubClient.CreateWindowsTemplateRegistrationAsync(ChannelUri, toasttemplate, tags);
    var tileTemplate = ToastFactory.CreateSquare150_150BackgroundTextTemplateWns(GetTileBackTextCultureKey(culture));
    await _hubClient.CreateWindowsTemplateRegistrationAsync(ChannelUri, tileTemplate, tags)
    Toast payload In terms of Dictionary :-
    Tile Payload Dictionary :-
    Note :- I have ensured that Keys for both the templates must be different during registering the templates so that both templates doesn't mix with each other.
    Problem :- When I am registering only one Template, doesn't matter Whether it is Toast or Tile, I am able to get the notification on my app successfully(Both of Toast and Tile ,individually, working fine). But When I register both of the
    Templates simultaneously or Individually, then none on them is working.
    Questions :-
    1) Can you let me know how basically Notification Hub select the Template from Payload Dictionary ? Like in case of two different registered templates.
    2) How can we send Two localized Notifications simultaneously using Template feature of Notification Hub?

    Hi Tanuj,
    Selection of template/registration always based on tags not based on payload keys.
    Just to explain, you have following two devices.
    device A - toast template,  tags: {"en-us", "toast"}
    device A - tile template , tags : {"en-us", "tile"}
    device B - toast template,  tags: {"en-fr", "toast"}
    device B - tile template , tags : {"en-fr", "tile"}
    If you call a method  SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us”)) like this,  That will target the toast and tile both notifications to the device A.
    But if you just want to send the toast notification to device A, you have to call something like this,
    SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us && toast”)). FYI Second parameter is a tag expression: Please refer following link to know more about tag expressions:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn530749.aspx
    To answer your second question, register template with language tag along with other tags (just like above example). Then when you are sending notification, include that tag in your tag expression.
    Example: SendTemplateNotificationAsync({“properties of template”}, “en-us && toast”)), this one send toast notifications to all “en-us” local devices.
    Thanks,
    Sateesh

  • Blue Ray with FCP and DVDSP

    Any ideas when the new FCP version will be out and if there are any plans for Blue Ray support for current versions of FCP and DVDSP.
    Thanks

    Apple is always mum on these issues.
    No who knows can tell.
    It's blu-ray™, BTW, not blue ray.

  • Toast and wonky preferences on a Powerbook G4?

    I am having trouble even force quitting Toast in Tiger. the machine has to be completely shut down by holding the power button.
    I notice that the Toast preferences and even some others, while they have the correct name have the Microsoft Entourage symbol on the icon. What is happening here?
    I have run Disk Utility, Diskwarrior and deleted the preferences and still the preference icons are wrong and Toast 8 will not shut down or run either for that matter.
    Help
    paddy

    First,
    What versions of Toast and M$ are you using?
    Be sure to update to the latest ones as there have been some fixes to both.
    Second
    What are you doing with toast? DVD's, Movies, Data, etc?
    The reason I ask this is I had a similar problem a while back while trying to make some DVD Movies. The problem turned out to be that even though the file sizes showed the correct size the actual files internally were corrupted. I trashed them and re-exported the files to make the DVD Movies.
    Search for Roxio on the hard drive you will find these Prefs to delete:
    com.roxio.Toast.plist
    Roxio Toast Prefs
    You may also want to delete com.apple.finder.plist
    Sometimes one has ot manualy reset the icons via info as the icon will sometimes get imbedded into the app's info.
    Have you tried to also create another user account and see if it happens when that user is logged in? If it doesnt then it is within the login that it happens on, if it happens still then you may need to reinstall the app. You may need to trash all references to the app including the app itself.
    More than likely you have a conflict or corrupted file.
    Worst case though is hardware failure of one type or another.
    Good luck

  • Toast and 16:9

    Hi all,
    can anyone tell me how to keep 16:9 aspect ratio when burning a DVD in toast. It keeps the exported .mov squeezed. I have been using DVDSP but toast would be much more efficient if it can be done.
    Cheers for any input,
    Si

    One way to do it is to Build the DVD in DVD SP (make sure to set the track aspect to 16:9 letterbox, will letterbox on 4:3, full on 16:9) then Burn a DVD using Toast (burn from Video_TS option, make sure to keep Audio_TS folder there also) I have not really explored Toast to do 16:9 so there may be another option and have not bothered getting 7 yet. But this works otherwise.

  • Exporting to DVD via compressor and DVDSP - fixing poor quality dissolves

    Hi,
    Im having real problems with the quality of the dissolves when exporting my 59min project out of FCP, into Compressor and then into DVDSP. I exported it out to Compressor 2, used DVD best quality, 90 min, 16:9 (project is for PAL) , had the bit rate 6.5 - 7.5 etc. In the finished product the dissolves are grainy and really noticeable during the transition of 1 sec.
    When we were doing test burns, using a reference movie (export/quicktime/untick make movie self contained etc) and burnt through Toast, all was fine. so I know it is not the work done in FCP its the settings or something in Compressor or something in DVDSP? Not sure.
    I built and burnt the project through DVDSP and also took the build (Video TS folder) and burnt it thorugh Toast as well and got the same result! Very frustrating and now I have to deliver a sub standard product to my client for a launch tomorrow. They are burning off 50 copies for it. Very upsetting. But before they do the replication of 1000 I want to sort this out.
    Is there another way to get my project out of FCP and into Compressor? For example is it possbile to export a Quicktime and full quality? I've never done this and was wondering if it is an option.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

    You can modify the encoding settings in the DVDSP Preferences menu. There's a tab at the far right labeled "Encoding".
    Just to confim - when I import the QT file into DVDSP, do I then just drag it onto the timeline as you would with the M2V file? Then just drag in the AC3 audio file.
    Yes.
    Then do I do a 'Build' in DVDSP to get the Video TS folder? Do you normally burn then through the DVDSP or burn in Toast for example.
    I normally build to my secondary internal drive first and open that folder with DVD Player, just to make sure I connected everything properly. I prefer to check my project in DVD Player rather than use the built-in simulator, primarily because I can then fast forward my tracks to make sure my jump points and buttons work.
    When I'm ready to burn a disc, I burn directly from DVDSP.

  • Most of my equipment has toasted, and I need the data back.

    I must have been a very, very bad person in a past life. This week has been more technologically harrowing than I'd thought possible.
    My cherished Titanium Powerbook died after a valiant battle, and the Apple techs said that there was nothing they could do, Apple just doesn't support such antiques (not sure if they meant me or the PB). They did let me download my files onto my 80G Smartdisk FireLite, and though the PB hard drive was acting a bit wonky and transfer was slow, I got most of the files. Most everything already had been backed up on the FireLite, but I grabbed the remainder. This means that My Entire Life resided on the FireLite.
    I was about to download the files onto the G4 cube, and plugged in a USB hub with an optical mouse and a jump drive on it--and something started to burn. The jump drive, the mouse, and the hub fried. Now it looks as though the well-named FireLite is toast too, since though it powers up, it won't mount and nothing recognizes it. The cube is fine.
    I still have the hard drive from the late lamented Powerbook, so if it holds up a bit longer, I ought to be able to save most if not all the files. Can I do this myself if I can get an external case to power the PB drive? And if the PB drive does indeed hold up, could I continue to use it? (This would be helpful, since the MacBook Pro won't run Classic, which is necessary in the short term for all my current programs and most peripherals.)
    If an external case is feasible, can someone give me specs for what to get? I'm hoping it's affordable, though I'd also look for one to borrow.
    If it isn't feasible, would someone please shoot me now?
    Thanks.

    Hi A,
    Just one thought to add: I would get a FireWire enclosure so if you ever want to clone an entire HD on a Mac, you would then have a secure backup which was also able to boot said Mac.

  • Converting DVD Files to DV with Toast and Storage Issues

    Hello all.
    In regard to my previous posting of converting to DV in Toast, I have started this new thread because I can't seem to reply to the other posting. When I originally dragged the Video TS folder from the DVD into the Toast window, it somehow didn't load completely although it seemed as though it did.
    I then decided to import the material via the Media pane and everything then worked fine. These are movies originally filmed in 8 mm silent movie film a long time ago. I had sent some of them away to be transferred directly from film to MiniDv tape which gave me excellent clarity and color. But that was expensive. So I decided to transfer my remaining film which I had transferred to VHS tape when that first technology first came out.

    Hi
    It takes a while.
    How much free space is there on Your boot hard disk ?
    How much free space is there on the hard disk where You store Your streamingDV file ?
    How long duration is Your movie ?

  • Music dvd in Toast and iTunes 9.2.1

    I am trying to create a music dvd in Toast 10, but it always crashes right at the very end when it is supposed to write the dvd or the image file. Looking at the recovery file in Toast, the last completed file is the dvd folder, though that is probably not completed.
    Someone on the Toast 10 Pro forums suggested that burning a music dvd from Toast 10 Pro was messed up with iTunes latest update. At first I was trying to burn 26 playlists (26 cd's in other words), and Toast would crash. Then I combined playlists simply by dragging the separate tracks into a single folder. That's where I am now. But Toast still will not burn the dvd or finish the disk image. Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.
    Mac Pro ver 1.1, 13 gig ram, 4 X 2tb hd's, OSX 10.6.4, Toast 10 Pro 10.0.7

    Found out how. Lots of work with manual entry of track names. But it works.

  • Deinterlace for Menus (in Photoshop, Motion, and DVDSP)?

    I have a slide show built as menus (people like their buttons, so i'm not using the built-in slideshow) and I'm not sure what settings to use in Photoshop for the Deinterlace filter. The options are:
    Eliminate: Even or Odd Fields?
    Create New Fields by: Duplication or Interpolation?
    Also, is there a way to do this in DVDSP 4?
    Also, for the menus I created in Motion 2.0, should I keep those progressive, and let DVDSP 4 encode them, or should I export from Motion 2.0. If so, what are the best settings for Menus?
    Thanks!

    A professional DVD player using component video, progressive scan, looks absolutely stunning, I couldn't believe my eyes. However, a consumer quality DVD player adds considerable jitter to the menus.
    OK, this is one of two things, depending on what you're really seeing on screen.
    If it really is a "jitter" kind of effect, it's probably due to fine detail in the image, or fine horizontal lines, even if the original image is not a capture of an interlaced TV image. The only way to really solve that is to blur the image slightly... even a 0.5 pixel Gaussian blur will help reduce the jitter without blurring things too much. You'll have to experiment to get the best tradeoff between image detail and lack of jitter.
    However, since you're seeing a difference between the component-connected DVD player and the "consumer" DVD player, it could also be that you're seeing "chroma crawl." When a player is connected via a composite connection (the RCA-style jack, usually color-coded yellow), or via an RF connection (heaven forbid), highly-saturated colors like reds and blues will seem to have a crawling border of pixels around them. These get reduced considerably when the DVD player is connected via S-video and almost completely disappear when you use component connections. Unfortunately, most people probably still use composite or RF (jeez) connections, so unless you tone the images down by desaturating the colors, they will see chroma crawl.
    If you use Final Cut Pro, you should be using its Range Checker to make sure your colors and brightness are in the safe range. Photoshop has a Broadcast Safe filter, but frankly it's not very effective.

  • 16:9 in FCP and DVDSP

    I'm sure this has been asked multiple times and I did try to find my answer there but I just want to ask again...
    I am needing to create videos in 16:9 aspect ratio. We shot on miniDV with a canon XL2 with 16:9 selected but I'm having troubles figuring out how to have 16:9 on a DVD without it being letterboxed.
    I tried to follow all the instructions and have created a 16:9 sequence, but I only checked the anamorphic box and didn't change the actual pixel settings.
    Would someone be able to tell me how to set up a sequence correctly, export and create a DVD so that my 16:9 video will play without being squished or letterboxed?
    Thank you so much.

    I use the XL2 as well. When you capture, select the "DV NTSC 48 kHz anamorphic" preset. That will flag the video as 16:9. Export (I use Compressor...making sure that Compressor knows it's 16:9 as well). Import assets into DVDSP.
    If I'm correct, when you specify "16:9 Letterbox" on the track inspector in DVDSP, you're telling the DVD player how to project the video if it's being watched on a 4:3 TV. If it's being watched on a widescreen capable of 16:9, then it should show it fullscreen without the letterbox. Don't forget to preview it with the Simulator (you'll have to choose the 16:9 option on the simulator as well.
    After you've built the DVD, open up DVD Player and test it out. It should be a widescreen player with your video without letterbox.
    Anyone else out there, let me know if I'm wrong. Might want to do a search in the DVDSP forum, as well.

  • How to make iMovie dvd with Toast and external burner

    I have a powerbook G4 (without superdrive so have an external DVD burner) and Toast. But Toast wont allow me to drag iMovie file there. Help?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    You first have to make that iMovie project into a DVD project in iDVD, then save that as a disk image, and burn the disk image in Toast.
