Toast sees Two video_ts files in disc image

After the update to 6 we were getting repeated reports that dvds would not play. All were created in iMovie and burned via iDVD. We created a disc image as a workaround and burned using Toast at 4x speed, 8x Maxell DVD-R media.
The problem is that the disc image contains 2 video_ts files, one for the title sequence, the other for the balance of the movie. When played two videos appear, one of the title and one of the movie.
Are we exporting incorrectly? Is there a way to combine these files so that third party burn software sees one, not two, video_ts files?
G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4)

I don't see how you can have 2 folders called 'VIDEO_TS' at the root level of a disk image - duplicate names are NOT allowed. How can 2 folders with identical names exist at the same directory level of your disk image?
At the root level of your disk image (when mounted on your desktop by double-clicking on the .img file) you should see a 'VIDEO_TS' folder and 'AUDIO_TS' folder. The 'AUDIO_TS' folder will be empty.
Inside the 'VIDEO_TS' folder you should see things like VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS010.BUP, VTS010.IFO, and VTS011.VOB
Since I have the VLC Player installed, double-clicking on the VIDEO_TS.VOB brings up the menu and double-clicking on the VTS011.VOB plays the actual video content. (If I had more than one clip, there would have been more VTSxxx.VOB files.)
Just for clarification: the disk image file we are talking about was made by iDVD 6 using the FILE>Create Disk Image command sequence and no version of Toast was involved. Is this correct?

  • Toast will not compress files for me to burn?

I am wondering if anyone else is having problems with toast compression from video_ts file to a dvd? I seem to have that problems with it. Thanks.

You might try to trash the copy of MTR you are now using and re-download it again.
This a very simple process, and you shouldn't be having any problem.
Start MTR put in the Movie.
Stop the DVD Player and it will then load on MTR. Click to start. When it finishes it will place the Video TS folder on the Desktop.
Close evrything and eject the DVD you were using.
Double click on Popcorn when it opens drag the VideoTS folder from your desktop to the box in Popcorn click burn the RED dot lower right thats all there is to it.

And by the way there isn't anything that is even close to being as good as MTR

  • DMGs and disc images...

    Hi all
Officially made the switch from PC this week and am now the proud owner of a hot new iMac.
I'm loving it so far and finding the transition very smooth, however I can't get my head around DMG files and disc images.
For example, I've downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird. They now sit on my dock and work well, however I have the DMGs and a disc image file sitting on my desktop and I don't know what to do with them.
At first I assumed that a DMG was just like the zip and rar files I was so used to on the PC. I would just unpack them, install them to the destination of my choice, then delete the archive file. DMGs don't seem to be quite the same thing though.
Also, what are the disc image files? I would like my desktop to be as unclutered as possible, however if I try and move these into my home folder, they only come over as shortcuts.
If anyone could guide me through the process I would greatly appreciate it.
    Cheers,
    Heath.

    Hi
There are 2 ways of installing:
1 With apps like Firefox & Thunderbird, you download the DMG
Double-clicking it should open a window with a Firefox icon followed by an arrow &, I think, a folder icon. To install firefox you open a finder window, navigate to Applications then drag & drop the Firefox icon to the Applications window. This installs the application. You can then drag the white disk icon on the desktop to the trash (to eject it).
If you have dragged it straight to the dock then you are running the program from the disk image (you have not actually installed it).
2 Application will also come in form of .pkg file, double-click to run.

  • Save an unencoded iDVD disc image to encode/burn with Toast?

    Hi:
I'm geting jittery image on playback (only in certain scenes) when I use iDVD to encode my disc. If I use Toast to encode and burn, there's no problem, using the same blanks and burner. I saw a post here from someone who said you can save a disc image from iDVD, but then have Toast encode it and burn it; in the help files it always says iDVD encodes its disc images. Any ideas, or any other suggestions as to the jittery playback on a few scenes?

It could be the DVD media you're using or player, etc. If you create a disk image and use DVD Player software to view it, that should be pretty much what to expect on DVD-R playing in a good quality DVD player.

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Disk Utility to burn the DVD.
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (not the .img, the one below) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. Your SuperDrive tray will open. Insert a recordable DVD. (DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and Tiger.
b Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Can iDVD create disc images from VIDEO_TS folder, and burn them?

That first question is pretty self-explanatory.
Background is this: I've downloaded some video folders/files from forum/torrent trading websites. When finished, I have a VIDEO_TS folder, often an EXTRAS_TS folder as well. A while back, I downloaded the app DVD IMAGER to create a disc image. Yesterday that stopped working effectively, so maybe I need to re-download, but I was wondering if there's just a better way? I also downloaded the app called BURN, but can't see yet how that creates disc images.
Once I create that disc image, I need to burn it, and I was using Disk Utility for that. I'm really looking for some help and advice on the best way to perform these processes.
Thank you, and let me know if I need to post in another forum.

Additionally, do you have experience w/ DVD Imager?
Nope. Like I said, Roxio's Toast Titanium is the top application (and is probably the one that most experienced people use).

  • IMovie to iDvd - No audio- disc image did not work-reopen iDvd files empty

I am making a 45 minute movie of a day at Disneyland. (My daughter wants it all so the editing is minimal)
I have tried to burn 3 times. each time takes about 12 hours.
first attempt had an error, i know not when, nothing burned to disc.
second attempt burned to disc, the 6.0 theme looked great, MP3 music played, worked on TV set
NO audio on the movie. trash the disc.
Third attempt burn to disc image. end up with two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. the audio folder is empty. no image
All the audio in the movie is off the video tracks except for ONE sound effect.
Is that causing the problem? Is the update causing the problem?
When I reopen any iDvdproj the themes are all blank even if the project file size is 5.8 GB. that does not seem right.
I have another smaller project with the same problem, the iDvd files are blank when I reopen them.
Right now I am trying to compress the movie into a QuickTime file but all the options were confusing since I am not an expert. in another 6 hours I will have results I have no idea how big the file will be, but the image willl remain the existing size ?? I am afraid it will be too small.
How come it seems so easy to make a dvd to watch on you own TV yet so IMPOSSIBLE?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iLife 06 updated

    Hello Wade,
the problem seems to be the audio. Give us a little more info on what audio you used in the iMovie project (original audio, music, MP3, Aiff...).
Also: what audio setting does your camcorder have? Should be 16-bit, 12-bit is a big no-no with iDVD, see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=494268&tstart=0&start=45
12 hours seem a long time to encode 45 min of video ... your mac should be able to do that in 4-5 hours max. I would suggest you convert all MP3 audio to AIFF before importing to iM.
If your original audio is 12-bit you can try to export the whole audio (original & music) via QT using the audio only option with 24-bit Integer, then re-import into iM.
Get the latest QT update, if you haven't done so already.
Also do some basic iDVD troubleshooting:
    1. free some space on the startup drive (15-20GB recommended)
    2. Trash preferences (com.apple.iDVD.plist) and empty trash
    3. Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility
    4. Clear Cache Files (Tools: CacheOutX, Onyx)
Have a look at what John Beatty says in this thread about iDVD trouble shooting:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=508221&tstart=0
Third attempt burn to disc image. end up with two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. the audio folder is empty. no image
the AUDIO_TS folder being empty is perfectly normal for Video DVDs, only music DVDs have audio in that folder
    hope this helps

  • Disc image file & CSS encoding?

I originally exported a project with CSS encoding from DVDSP to a DLT tape for replication. (DDP 2.0 with CSS)
I then created a disc image file of this project and don't remember if I had checked CSS format. Is there a way to determine this by looking through the Video_TS folder or possibly another way.
    thanks,
    dave

    Dave,
Disc Images, per se, cannot have CSS applied to them (they're fixed at 2048 bytes per sector). This is so you can write the Image to DVD-Recordables - which is not allowed to have CSS on them, or mount the Disc Image on various machines; again, no CSS allowed in that application.
For sure, Disc Images do have CSS applied to them, but this is only during DDP 2.0, DDP 2.1, or CMF formatting. Though then, you'll have an unplayable Disc Image in that case, until the replicator applies the unscrambling keys during mastering.
So, if you left the CSS option on, it would have no affect (setting ignored) if formatting a regular "img" to hard drive or Recordable.

  • Disc image file exported from Encore CS4 won't work

    Hello,
I have a problem concerning the export of a disc image file in Encore CS4. I recently upgraded to CS4 and wanted to continue my project which I started editing with CS3. While working with CS3 I already did image files from this project for burning and testing the DVD. Back then it worked with no problems.
However, since using the CS4 version Encore does the image without any problem, but I can't use the image file in any way afterwards. I mounted it with Daemon Tools as I did before, but the DVD won't play in any software DVD player I have installed (Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime) nor can I access the file structure over a file manager. Nevertheless NeroInfoTool and ImgBurn say there is a DVD in the virtual drive. Then I exported the DVD project into a folder and now I can see the files in the file manger but again no player will play it.
Has anyone experienced this before and is able to help? It would be very appreciated since I don't want to downgrade back to CS3 :-)
It's Encore CS4, Version 4.0.1.048 on a 2,8 GHz HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 UT, lots of HDD space, XP + SP3.
    Thank you,
    Chris...

    Hey,
thank you both. As I said no player accepts the project exported to a folder. It doesn't matter if I point the player to the video_ts.ifo or just the folder - it won't play. As a consequence I re-installed Encore CS3 in which exporting worked fine and guess what - the exported image and folder output doesn't work either. Since it worked before in CS3 it comes down to the conclusion that either I did some editing to the project that screwed the project or Encore CS4 did. Checking for mistakes in the project and previewing in inside CS4 everything seems fine. So might it be CS4 that ****** up the project file??? I mean it's full of strange bugs so it could easily be that. I even updated my Daemon Tools yesterday and it won't make a difference.
Or could it be something else I haven't considered yet? Any ideas? I just don't want to build the whole project again which might not even work if it's some other error. This is a desperate call for help
    Thanks,
    Chris...

  • How do I burn a disc image (img file) to dvd?

I created a disc image from iDVD, but my disc drive on my home computer is broken. With a flash drive, I copied the img file onto my work computer & burned the file to disc. However, while the file copied, the disc doesn't play as normal dvd. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Though the replies above were very helpful and most likely would have worked, my work computer doesn't allow access to Disc Utilities. However, I bugged my IT guy and he showed me another way, using the Burn Application. I just needed to use the correct setting, as was mentioned above, I was burning data & not DVD. I'm sorry I don't have it in front of me, but I think I had to click the DVD tab & then select DVD/Video from the drop-down menu. One quirky element: I wasn't able to drag/drop the img file into Burn. I needed to drop the contents of the img file (the VIDEO_TS folder). Then it worked fine.

  • Difference between video_ts and disc image?

hey all, i'm wondering the difference between "saving as video_ts" and "save as disc image"
is there any way to save a disc image that has permissions to "read and write?"
i need to modify some ifo files on the video_ts folder (change from 16:9 pan and scan to 16:9 auto letterbox) and when i save as disc image...everything is read only...

You can read a disc image within iDvd'08 /apple's dvd player app but it is not possible to also enable permissions to both read and write (to the best of my knowledge). However,if you do find such a way, then please let us know.

    Hi there,
I need help converting quicktime .mov files into an iso disc image. i have a large-scale dvd burner that converts these iso files into DVDs.
Any idea what software i'd use to do this?
I've looked at "burn" and one or two others, and they seem to go "straight" to dvd.
I don't need "movie theater" quality, but something useable. I'm also new to the mac and this may be very apparent, and I just don't realize it b/c i'm new.

  • Issues with saving disc images using Toast 8

I am having issues saving disc images to my portable hard drive using Toast 8.
First, I'm attempting to save Dual Layer disc images to my portable hard drive for future use. I turn compression off and select DL DVD above the burn button, and select "save as disc image" from the file menu. As that point the program seem to freeze and I get the whirly-spinning rainbow. After a few minutes a window asks me if I'm buring single or dual layer. I select dual layer. Then a box appears that says "writing ...".
After it's complete I check the portable hard drive and I've got EIGHT disc images all titled "SAMPLE DISC IMAGE TITLE.TOAST.001" .....002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008. File numbers 002-008 open in itunes, and file number 1 mounts with an error that will cause Toast to crash.
This is so weird and confusing.
When I save the image to the desktop, its saves fine. BUT, when I try to copy it to the portable hard drive it gets all the way to the end and reports an error message.
    Please help. Thanks
    17 inch PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz 80 GB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   External HD: Lacie Portable 100gb

After several weeks of searching and an error code 1309 I discovered the issue is not with TOAST but with my external hard drive. The drive format is FAT32 which does not allow single files to be transfered in excess of 4gb. I was attempting to create disc images of dual layered dvd's which can be up to 8 gb. Since the drive was incapable of accepting a file that size it created seperate files that made up the size of the original file.
Example: 7.8gb file transfered to FAT32 external LACIE drive. Lacie creates 8 files: 7 are 1gb, 1 is .8gb.
There is probably a program that could put these files back together but I've already experienced too great of an ordeal.
Unless the user needs the external drive for use on a PC & MAC there is not a reason to have the format of the drive set to FAT32.
I will be using Disk Utility to reformat the drive to "HFS+" in hopes to solve this problem.

  • Encore cs4 creates invalid disc image (iso file)

I have a video I edit in premiere cs4, exported an .mpg file that I import into encore to create a DVD. This works mostly fine (I have to delete the .xmp* file before importing to encore).
Today I edited the video, re-encoded the mpg file using quality 5 and 2 pass vbr, and added a slide show (about 6 photos) to the encore project. It also builds fine to a disc image (iso file). But when I try to burn the iso file using windows 7, it tells me the iso image is invalid. I tried imgburn and got an  error message like this:
    session 1 track 1 MODE1 .... 2054
    dvd format: MODE1 .... 2048
If I ask imgburn to continue it then says something about CSS and encryption, which I don't use, so I assume the iso file is too messed up.
I burned a DVD5 directly from encore, and it works in a dvd player.
Any idea why this invalid iso happens and whether there is a work-around?
Since cs4 is not the latest version, I assume there is no hope of bug fix?

There seem to be major problems in the disc creation process. I am struggling since several days now and I am not able to produce a working Blu-Ray Disk or iso image with Encore 5.5:
    - when producing Blu-Ray ISO images, you get an ISO that is recognized as DVD iso in all virtual drive programs. Therefore, you cann not burn them on a BD-R disc, also viewing them is not possible because it is a "DVD with blu-ray content".
    - when burning directly to disk, Encore does not close the sessing. This means, the Disk is not playable on all home Blue-Ray players. It was playable on my computer, but after closing the session manually the disc was a coaster.
    - when burning on a virtual burner (Virtual CD 10), the Blue-Ray plays ok on my computer, but I am NOT able to make a ISO image from this disk because some errors (unreadable blocks) on the disk are reported during creation and image creation stops.
    - from time to time (not reproduceable), Encore produces an additional AACS folder on the created Blu-Ray.
I am an experienced user and dont have any issues with other software solutions, but with Encore I was not able to get any usable results so far.
