Toast warning

As Toast is often talked about here as an alternative to iDVD I thought I should tell you about my recent experience. I went to their web site and Toast 8 was being offered at $79 including a $20 mail in, usually $99. This item shows on the purchasing procedure right up until the end then although the mail in offer is still shown the value is set at zero. You can't download the pdf file that explains that the offer ended in 2007 until you have paid. I think this is very shoddy. I am still waiting for an explanation from them.

To continue: the mail in rebate expired three months ago yet still appeared as an offer. Now to add insult to injury Roxio brought out Toast 9 on the same day as they sent me Toast 8 the very same day! I have not received the disc yet but I have received an offer to buy the upgrade at $29.99.I wrote to say that I didn't find this fair (you must agree it is shifty)and asked for an explanation. I am told that the only (note 'only') way I can get the upgrade is to return 8 first for a refund and then purchase 9. No apology for their sharp practice just a note to say that they are sorry I am confused. The cheek of it! If this is what passes for customer care with them I feel it my duty to warn people of what I consider cheating.

  • Can't erase (rewriteable) DVD using Disk Utility

I'm trying to erase a Maxell DVD +RW in my Mac Pro's SuperDrive, but when I click on Erase in Disk Utility (I've tried both Quickly and Completely, and both the drive and the disc itself) it just spins for 30 seconds, and then stops (with all the data still there).
I also downloaded PermanentEraser and dropped the disc icon into the app icon, but it also spun for a while but did nothing. I tried selecting all the files on the disc and manually dragging them to the Trash, but when I try to empty it I receive an error code of -61.
What's going on? Does DiskWarrior somehow create startup disks which can't be erased?

Hey, if you do that ... you can throw disk directly to the trash. if you used fast
erase option, you can only use disk utility !!! trying to that with others software make disk unusable.
when I started to use rewritable disks I did this mistake over more of 10 disks, before I understanded it. Toast warn you, when you use fast erase.

  • Removing warning messages - PTMW

    Hi,
I must to restrict the message apperance for transaction PTMW. In PTMW, when managers click on Goto -> Process Process Messages, they should see only the error messages. I tried to use badi PT_BLP_USER, but without success. Can you tell me how I can do this requirement ?
    Thanks

The warning messages are fine and normal. (You may want to sellect a different build folder, looks lik eyou are building to where your apps are?)
Not sure about how you are trying to burn them (I use Toast or DVD SP itself), but in general make a new disc, then add the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders

  • Toast 8:  number of jpegs on CD - Mac: unlimited  PC: limited but how many?

I Make "Photo CDs" on Mac using Roxio Toast 8. They work fine on Mac. But some of my PC customers are having problems with pictures displaying on their Windows XP systems.
A PC friend says their may be a limit to how many pic files a PC can handle from a Disk (CD/DVD) or either I need to split pics up into separate folders on the CD so the PC can properly preview them.
Anyone know what this problem's solution is or exactly what IS the magic number of pics I can put in one folder on a CD that won't cause the PC to display warning like "Preview unavailable" and tick off my PC customers? Help! Def

Questions regarding Toast should be posted on Roxio's own forums, as they'd obviously be geared mored toward your issue than an Apple forum since Toast is not an Apple product:

  • Low Battery warning at 90%

I have a G4 ibook, that didn't get used for a long time, (over a year) and  I am using again after my newer laptop was stolen. The battery may be near the end of it's life, but I am confused by getting a "low battery warning" dialog box, when the battery indicator says 90%.
If it was just dropping quickly I'd assume the battery was toast, but I don't get the conflict between the two pieces of information.
Is there any point in resetting the PMU? Should I just consider this a not-so-portable until I replace it?

Have you tried calibrating the battery?
Calibrating your computer's battery for best performance
If that doesn't help, resetting the PMU may not help, but it wouldn't hurt.

  • Missing fonts warning when opening a Keynote file

I'm using Keynote 2.0.2 on a Mini Mac. Having searched for an answer to the ubiquitous "Missing Font" problem when opening a Keynote file, I was wondering if upgrading to the latest version would solve this problem. Unless it does, we would have to think twice about upgrading the software. A lot of users seem to have the problem with version 3 too. Does anyone have a solution to this? The presentation runs perfectly well, but the warning message is annoying and doesn't look nice when presenting to clients. HELP!
1.42 GHz Mac Mini PPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB DDR SDRAM

I've experience this same problem multiple times. There is a way to get rid of the troublesome font, thereby getting rid of the annoying message. I may be glossing over a step or two, but it goes something like this:
    (1) In the Finder, right click on the Keynote file and select "Show Package Contents"
(2)Locate the index.apxl.gz file and open it. The file exands -- then open the index.apxl file with Textedit (or Word). Throw away the gz file.
    (3) Do a search and replace -- find all instances of the troublesome font name and replace it with a non-troublesome font name, such as GillSans
    (4) Close the text file.
Opening the Keynote file should now proceed normally. Note: Better practice this on a dummy file until you are sure everything works. I imagine that if you muck up the index file that the orignial Keynote file might be toast!

  • Accessing tunes from within STP or Toast

When using Toast, or Motion, or Soundtrack Pro, etc media browser files provide access to iTunes for selecting whichever tune you want. Very nice. However I cannot see all my tunes. They're listed in Compilations, Albums, etc. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the ones I want to appear in that browser window. For instance, in iTunes I imported 4 tracks. I selected them, created a playlist with those 4, and indicated they were a compilation. I also included them in an existing playlist that does somehow appear in the browser in outside apps (Motion, STP, Toast, etc). But no matter what I try, those 4 songs are not accessible from within Toast. I simply cannot see them to burn to a CD. They are songs that are legal, nothing shady from that department, but my eyes and brain are foggy about how/where those browsers are accessing the data. Any help appreciated.

There used to be something called high-level API. Abandoned ages ago because most of us preferred the "real thing" or went to scripting.
TextStyleRange like all the other Text scripting objects are second class citizens of the object model - they are created only on the fly as "proxy" objects. On the down side that means they consume memory until the document is released/saved/closed, and may fall apart (point to the wrong chunk of text) after any manipulation in preceding text. Besides the implementation is overkill by several degrees - each instance (I think it was kTextScriptingSuiteBoss) is the equivalent to a whole selection suite boss.
That said, you can use IScriptUtils to access kScriptInfoManagerBoss.
IScriptRequestHandler is aggregated there to execute script requests.
Be warned that constructing such script requests also has some learning curve, and the interfaces in the scripting area are extremely unstable across InDesign versions. Every other version renames methods, classes, adds or removes arguments. You will need plenty preprocessor conditions for cross-version code.
From the plugin side I only use that approach where the official interfaces do not work and the working interfaces (as used by scripting) are not exposed. One concrete case is TOP (type on path).

  • Final Log Checkup:  Warning: file will not be included...

    Just a final checkup...
I am currently building my finished DVD project on to my master disk. I've noticed this throughout my test burns as well. The alert comes up saying:
Warning: The file 'filename.ext' found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
This error doesn't seem to affect the performance of the DVD, so is this just a reminder message? Does it really mean anything in the end?
    Thanks

That is a good warning. You don't want those files in the VIDEO_TS folder and dvdsp removes them when formatting to media.
Some methods in Toast will remove them for you too but others you'll need to manually remove them.
See p567 of the dvdsp 4 manual, plus the PAR folder etc will be removed,
    -Jake

  • How do I bypass modified asset warning

I want to burn the movie into iDVD as is, but if i let it update after a modified asset warning, i always lose the scene selection and I have to do it all over again. What can I do?  I am using the good old iMovie 6, and iDVD 7.1.2

There's a bug in iDVD regarding modified assets.  It's best to start over with a new project. Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Do you know that when you have the movie as you want it in iMovie 6 all you need to do is close iMovie and drag the iMovie project file into the iDVD window to get the movie into iDVD? There's no exporting needed.

  • PMG5 suddenly goes to sleep (When using Toaster Titanium)

Since yesterday my dual g5 2*2,7 have developed a new problem.
Im trying to toast a dvd for my sister as a x-mas gift, but whenever I start the encoding process the computer after a few minutes suddenly goes into sleepmode without warning. Im suspecting some sort of heating problem because if I wake it up shorty after it goes down in sleepmode again a lot faster than if I wait for a while. Any tips on how to verify any heatproblems? leaks maybe?

  • IMovie audio stutter+ iDvD audio encoding = Toast ?

In the 8 days since I finally got into iMovie, then iDvD, I've encountered both the skittery / unstable audio Playback of iMovie audio & now iDvd's audio encoding issues . [ app "not responding" while still chuggin' away, etc\etc. ]
It was good to hear from an iApp specialist that these are known issues being 'addressed'.
But it's quite disheartening when a GoOgle ( or Forum ) Search shows woes & hope from 2005 & before.
Will iLife 7 iron out much ? [ or introduce a whole new set for us to spend months grappling with ? ]
My real question here, well the head-of-the-line question ! . . . is > after reading a Macobserver post from 2/06 on Toast 7, I have to wonder if it fills in many gaps and opens the pallette while solving some problems.
It doesn't have slide transitions , but it's work could go to iMovie/iDvd ??
( too many toys in the toybox !! -- pardon my overwhelment )
One hard-fact question that's more answerable is > After my 1st "hung in audio // not responding" Disk Image burn , a Wec-Chat Agent considered it 'dead' & I cancelled it. Is there a headless body in a folder somewhere ?, and is that what "delete encoded assets" is for ??

So !...I'm a' confused w/ all the ways to 'archive'
an iMovie project. i created an .img, a
Data-Disc...which could burn a DvD of the project,
but not open in iMovie...yes ?
Warning: we're going to jump a bit from topic to topic.
    • An archive is a backup copy of something. The purpose of the archive is to preserve the thing as it exists today. An archive of an iMovie project "captures" it as it exists today. If necessary, months from now you can use the archive to re-create the project as it exists today.
    • The archive can take many forms. It can be stored as a disk image — a file stored on your computer that uses a .dmg suffix and looks and acts like a hard disk. Or it can be a ".zip" file created in the Finder. Or it can be a simple duplicate of the project stored on a hard disk or DVD. (A disk image file or zip file does not save significant hard disk space. An iMovie project can't be compressed to any significant extent.)
    • iMovie's menu command File > Burn Project to Disc is there for the convenience of iMovie users wanting to copy the project to a DVD — as a computer file. But iMovie can burn a DVD only if the entire iMovie project fits on one disc. Technically, it doesn't create an standalone archive, it simply copies the project — with all the files and folders the project contains — onto the DVD, then burns the DVD.
    • The Finder lets us create an standalone archive of a file or folder, using the File > Create Archive Of command. The command copies everything to a file that has a ".zip" suffix. If we want, we can tell the Finder to burn the zip file onto a DVD. The zip file has to fit on one DVD.
    • Backup applications like Retrospect can create archives too. Retrospect can store the archive on a variety of media. The backup is stored in a format only Retrospect understands.
    • Most of us also have another backup solution available to use with iMovie. Exporting the iMovie project back to tape is a good backup. For most projects, the clips return as clips when the tape is re-imported to a new project. Clips like titles and transitions are no longer editable, of course. Note you must re-import the material to access it.
IS there a way to save a 29 GB project to one DvD
    • Regrettably, no. An iMovie (or iDVD) project cannot be larger than will fit on one DVD. Most iMovie projects are larger, of course. For them, the File > Burn project to disk command cannot be used.
    • Software exists, however, that lets us back up an iMovie (or iDVD) project across multiple DVDs. These include Toast and Retrospect, the pre-eminent Mac backup software.
    • iMovie projects stored on DVDs have one huge disadvantage, however. We must copy the project back to the hard drive to open it in iMovie. iMovie doesn't let us open a project stored on a DVD, for Movie can't write to the disc. (The DVD is, by definition, a locked medium.)
Note too that if the backup DVD is created by Retrospect, Retrospect is required to copy it back to the hard disk. (Sorry, I'm not familiar with Toast.)
    • The Finder's File > New Burn Folder lets us burn computer files to a DVD as files. It can copy disk images, zip files and any other kind of computer files and folders to the DVD. Used in this way, the DVD functions like a small hard disk. It can't burn across multiple DVDs.
    • A DVD containing data files is different from the DVD iDVD normally creates for us. DVD Normally creates TV-playable DVDs, not data-file DVDs. For these, iDVD encodes the video of our iMovie projects as MEPG-2 video, the language a DVD player understands. No computer data files are involved, at least not files a computer normally understands.
    • The iDVD command File > Archive Project serves a different purpose than the archive of an iMovie project. Yes, it backs up the iDVD project too, but we usually make it for a different reason.
The iDVD project has no video or audio of its own, just a link to the reference movie iMovie stores inside the iMovie project. If we want to be able to burn a DVD of the current iMovie project some time later, or burn a DVD after the iMovie project has been discarded, we will have a problem. The source material may be gone. The iDVD archive solves this problem by storing a copy of the source material inside its archive.
So If you want to preserve an iDVD project as it exists today you can tell iDVD to create an archive the includes all the necessary source material from the iMovie project. Now the source material will be "static". We can open the archive sometime later, edit the DVD menus if we want, and burn another DVD.
    • iDVD also offers the File > Save As Disk image. This command is not associated with archiving. This command is almost the same as burning a DVD, but it "burns" the encoded material as a disk image file instead of a physical DVD.
The disk image can be played in DVD Player on our Macs, and we can use Disk Utility to burn a DVD of the disk image.
"Burning" a disk image from iDVD is a good way to check the encoding by iDVD. If the disk image "burns" okay, the physical DVD we burn with Disk Utility will probably be okay too.
    • As you suggested, the best solution may be an external hard drive. It's not only the easiest to use, it lets us access the iMovie project whenever we want.
    • Much of what I've said is associated with routine backups, so I want to say a word about those. We always need backups of our important projects. At the very least, we need to keep a copy on a separate drive. Drives fail.
Experts say that we need to back up our computers daily, and maintain three backup copies, called backup sets. We need two backup sets that we alternate every day or so, both stored on site. And a third backup set stored off-site. (Off-site because our beach house may burn down and the high tides caused by global warming may carry the ashes out to sea.)
Retrospect does an incremental backup for me each night, backing up all the Macs in the house. The on-site backup not being used by Retrospect is stored in a fireproof data safe — a fireproof paper safe isn't cool enough. The third backup set is stored in a safe deposit box at a bank. I rotate the bank set every month or so with one of the two in-house backup sets. The two in-house backup sets are rotated every few days.
For backup media I use "bare" drives connected to a Firewire "dock", like this ComboDock. The drives snap on/off in seconds.
    http://www.wiebetech.com/products/ComboDock.php
    • Some on-line retailers include Retrospect with the drives they sell.
    Hope something here is useful.

  • Final Cut Pro X with Toast 12

I have attempted to burn a DVD from a downloaded mov file from FCP X . Roxio Toast 12 boasts that it can replace iDVD. I have been on the Roxio forum and others are having the same problems as me with not being able to successfully burn a DVD. Toast 12 apparently does not operate with Yosimite. Is anybody else having the same problem. If others are having problems with Toast 12 can Apple warn people off purchasing Toast 12.

AVCHD discs are usually regular DVDs that can hold HD content.
They require a bluray player to play the finalised discs.
Toast can create these if the bluray plugin is installed.
    BTW:
iDVD worked just fine on Yosemite 10.10.1.

  • Toast Titanium 7.1.2

After installing Leopard and attempting to burn a disc I get the following error message:
Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error.
    Result code = -13780
I've tried reinstalling Toast and get the same result.

I am keeping OS 10.4 until they fix Leopard (10.5) to sync my notes and contacts from iPhone. But I opened Toast 7 and got a message about an available update. Why not? But after I upgraded from 7.1.2 to 7.1.3, Toast crashes every time I try to open it. My guess is that 7.1.2 works with OS 10.4 but 7.1.3 ONLY works with OS 10.5.
This is ridiculous! Now I can't download 7.1.2 because it's no longer available from Roxio. If I want to use Toast, I'm stuck with version 7.0.1 which came on the CD I originally purchased. Just be warned and check your Mac OS version before upgrading Toast!

  • Warning - Broken Pipe

    Somebody! Please help!
Every time I download any file in .DMG format, it fails to mount. I get a square box Warning that says: The Following Disk Images failed to Mount:
then it says the name of the downloaded image and a reason. The reason is always the same- it says: Broken Pipe
There is nothing on this in Apple's knowledge base or in the support area. I'm lost.....

    hi thewex,
This is a copy/paste from MacInTouch. It might apply to you.
    "Matt Ruben
Great coverage on Tiger. I just experienced - and solved - a very nasty conflict between Tiger and Virtual PC 7. It's a bit long and complicated, but I've provided a short version too.
    SHORT VERSION:
    - A VPC helper application breaks Tiger's Disk Utility and all disk- related applications.
    - Trashing the helper app fixes the problem, and still allows VPC to function (though it may not be able to mount some types of disk images)
    LONG VERSION:
    (1) There's a VPC Disk Image handler bundle that lives in /System/ Library/Plug-ins. I assume it helps VPC mount certain disk images.
    (2) Upon upgrading to Tiger (via an "archive and install"), when you first launch VPC, it says you have to reinstall certain VPC components. These include the Disk Image handler and a couple of kernel extensions - components which are in subdirectories within / System/Library and are thus not transferred over by the archive and install process.
    (3) The VPC Disk Image handler, when installed, prevents Apple's own diskmounter helper from working. As a result, all attempts to mount DMG files in the Finder fail with a "broken pipe" error; Disk Utility will not launch; Toast Titanium will not launch; and, I presume, any application that interacts with the diskmounter helper will fail.
    (4) Moving the VPC Disk Image handler to the trash immediately restores all of the lost functionality of the Finder, Disk Utility and Toast Titanium.
    (5) The Good News: VPC will still launch and function after the Disk Image handler has been trashed. I do not know if it is still able to mount disk images, however - haven't had a chance to test it."
