TOC and Glossary on PDF export

Is it correct to say that when we export our work to PDF file, we cannot include the auto-generated TOC and Glossary in the PDF output?

That's been my finding, yes.

  • TOC  and hyperlinks in PDF

    CS3 (5.0.4) on Mac 10.5.7 (Leopard)
When I generate a TOC, if i select the "Create PDF bookmarks" option, the entries also create hyperlinks to the location within the PDF.
In the PDF, if I click on the TOC entry, it jumps to the page where the entry starts.
    All well and good.
Where I am confused is the Hyperlinks panel in InDesign.
These hyperlinks do not show up in the panel.
However, if I select the text in the TOC and choose "Hyperlink Options..." in the Hyperlink panel, it gives me the options for that link, including a weird name, such as .7890 that I assume is auto-generated.
So it seems that there is a hyperlink there, I just don't see it in the panel.
(I do however, see a list of bookmarks in that panel.)
If I create a TOC where the "create PDF bookmarks" is not checked, it still seems to create hyperlinks, they just aren't active, or they don' t have a destination(?). If I select text in the TOC and choose "Hyperlink options..." it shows me the options (the hyperlink type shows up as "All Types"). Furthermore, I can't select the text and choose "New hyperlink" which indicates to me that there is already a hyperlink there.
Can someone explain to me how the creation of hyperlinks/bookmarks from a TOC is working and if I can make the auto-generated hyperlinks appear in the hyperlinks panel?
I've read through the sections in Help and in RealWorld InDesign CS3.
    Thanks!

No, is not at all a problem related to maintaining forms.
    All the contrary.
Please be kind and read again the post, is a problem with links, with the integrity of the file, with anomalies in behavior, just with many things far beyond the user that can not be reduced to that known resource:

  • Images scrambled and error on PDF export since upgrade to 2014.1 / 10.1.0.71 build

I am using a mac and just upgraded to the 2014.1 / 10.1.0.71 build.  I was working on a file and installed the upgrade (I know I shouldn't have done that while in the middle of a project.  Brain lapse), but as soon as I opened the file the images are scrambled when viewed on "high quality display".  If I view them on "typical display" they show up fine.  But now when I try to export as a PDF it throws an error and will not export.   The only solution I found was to reopen each image and save them out again as a new .psd, pdf files.  Then it seems to export properly.  If I try to import the previous files it says there is not an import filter for that file type.  Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Hello,
it turned out to be an application problem that somehow only manifested itself since the upgrade.
The problem was that we performed an update to the DB in the Corba object's deactivate method. The object had the method activation policy, and the update was a left-over from way back when the object was stateful.
There was a race between the last update (xaostart/xaoend cycle) in the first Tuxedo server and the commit (xaoprepare) in the second Tuxedo server.
The fix is to move the update out of the deactivate method and add it at the end of the service method(s). Alternatively we could have switched to transactional object activation, but since there is only one invocation to the object, that did not make sense.

  • Best way to get SharePoint workflow to trigger InDesign XML refresh and PDF export?

What is the best way to get a SharePoint workflow to trigger the refresh of an XML datasource within an InDesign document, and generate a PDF export? The datasource would be hosted by SharePoint.
    Would InDesign Server be required?

My understanding of the license is that Adobe requires you to use InDesign Server for this sort of thing.
But the implementation is probably the same either way. Periodically poll, or find some way to trigger it.

  • Signed up twice for adobe pdf export to word and still not working - anyone else have this problem?

signed up twice for adobe pdf export to word and still not working - anyone else have this problem?

    In XI.
I can’t just export to word as I have done in the past in one simple click.
Convert to button is greyed out.
Now I have to save the pdf file on c drive when I am in outlook…then goto export pdf file…then find file then export to word.
I bought new computer with windows 8 (which is awful) and then bought pdf export again…
Any thoughts on how I can get back to one simple click again when I open a pdf file from an email in outlook?
    Thank you,

  • PDF export in Linux

    Hello,
I'm using the Crystal Reports Java SDK from Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 (normal Java code, no JSP) and want to export a report to a PDF file. When the report is exported under Windows XP, everything works fine. But if the report is exported under openSUSE 11.1, the following exception is thrown:
Exception in thread "Thread-4"" java.lang.NullPointerException at com.crystaldecisions.reports.exporters.format.page.pdf.fontembedding.opentype.OpenTypeFontManager.run (Unknown Source)
I'm guessing that the font which is used in the report is not present in openSUSE. But the only font being used in the report is the default one ("Arial"). I tried to install additional fonts via YAST, but I do not know which fonts are needed.
The problem only occurs when exporting to PDF. Excel export works fine on both operating systems.
I would be thankful for any hints!
    Robin
    P.S.:
The code looks approximately like this
    reportClientDocument.open("Test.rpt", OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);
    reportClientDocument.getDatabaseController().logon("LOGON", "PASSWORD");
    PDFExportFormatOptions pdfOptions = new PDFExportFormatOptions();
    exportOptions.setExportFormatType(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    exportOptions.setFormatOptions(pdfOptions);
    reportClientDocument.getPrintOutputController().export(exportOptions);

Hello again. I've copied the files into the specified directory and now the PDF export works fine. Thanks again for your support!
But I've got another question. Currently, I'm trying to print out a report instead of generating a file. Here's my code snippet:
    PrintReportOptions printReportOptions = new PrintReportOptions();
    printReportOptions.setPrinterName("//SERVER_NAME/PRINTER_NAME");
    reportClientDocument.getPrintOutputController().printReport(printReportOptions);
Printing in Windows works fine ;-). But if I'm trying to print the report in Linux, the printer cannot be found because it's a windows share. So here's my question. How Do I configure the report engine so that the report can be printed to a windows network printer?

  • Script that worked in CS does not work in CS4 - multiple open page, print , pdf export and close

I had a script that worked great for me in Indesign CS. But now does not work in CS4. Anyone knows what needs to be done to make it work again ?
When I drop folder with indesign files on top of this script:
    1. opens first page
    2. turns specific layer on
    3. prints using preset
    4. exports using preset
    5. close without saving
    6. next page
Anyone who can give me solution or idea how this should work is greatly appreciated.
    on open sourceFolders
    repeat with sourceFolder in sourceFolders
    tell application "Finder"
    try
-- If you would like to include subfolders, you say - every file of entire contents of folder…
set idFiles to (every file of folder sourceFolder whose file type is "IDd5") as alias list
on error -- work around bug if there is only one file
set idFiles to (every file of folder sourceFolder whose file type is "IDd5") as alias as list
    end try
    end tell
if idFiles is not {} then
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
set user interaction level to never interact
repeat with i from 1 to count of idFiles
    open item i of idFiles
    tell document 1
    try
set visible of layer "ImagesTag_Layer" to true
    end try
set myPreset to "letter size" -- name of print style to use
    with timeout of 700 seconds
print using myPreset without print dialog
    end timeout
set myPreset1 to "pdf preset name" -- name of pdf export style to use
set myName to the name -- name includes .indd should remove at some point
    with timeout of 700 seconds
export format PDF type to "users:temp:Desktop:pdf:" & myName & ".pdf" using myPreset1 without showing options -- set path here format ComputerName:Folder1:Folder2:......:FileName.pdf
    end timeout
    close without saving
    end tell
    end repeat
set user interaction level to interact with all
    end tell
    end if
return 10 -- try again in 10 seconds
    end repeat
    end open

(Disclaimer: me not an AS guy!)
First thing I noticed is the interaction level is set off. If you comment out this line
set user interaction level to never interact
you might be able to pinpoint the exact error -- ID will display a standard "failed" dialog, hopefully showing the line that it fails on.
A quick question: the script assumes two presets in your InDesign: one for print ("letter size") and one for PDFs ("pdf preset name"):
set myPreset to "letter size" -- name of print style to use
set myPreset1 to "pdf preset name" -- name of pdf export style to use
Do these actually exist in your CS4, with the same (non)capitalization and spaces?

OK, I need to be able to have a linked TOC, and also have destinations created in FM10 that will not be lost when I 1. Save the book as a PDF; then 2. I need the PDF to be as small as possible, but without losing my destinations. Anyone know how to do that??
I had been saving as a PDF and then reducing the size of the PDF by printing it as a PDF with a degree of image compression. I write manuals with a LOT of screen captures and line art that needs to be clear. So it is a balancing act between image clarity and PDF size. The PDFs on the web need to be smaller - sure you can undertsand.
Anyway, when I print the PDF again, I lose both my destinations and bookmarks.
Anyone know of any way to avoid that?

Control the images by creating a custom PDF Job Options and then selecting it in the PDF Job Options drop-down of the PDF setup dialog box (File > Save as PDF...)
Create the custom PDF Job Options file with Distiller. If you do not have Distiller, open the Printing Preferences of the Adobe PDF printer. Start with the Smallest File Size Job Options settings and Edit.

  • Keynote and PDF Export

Exporting Keynote presentation in PDF via email is a great feature that has been awaited by potential business users.
However, PDF exports from ipad do not seems to be supported by acrobat especially on PCs/windows system. Font conversion seems corrupted and text appears with bullets.
Any hint on how to send keynote presentation converted in pdf properly ?
    Many thx

I also ran into a bug with PDF export today. The PDF displayed properly on my mac, but when viewed on other laptops (and when uploaded to Scribd), the text was missing. :/
Workaround was to export the keynote file to my mac, then use the desktop keynote app to re-export as PDF.

  • How to allow non-text page into TOC and have it export to ePub?

    Hi there,
I've got an InDesign book file with several document files added as "chapters."  One of these files is the title page of the book, which is composed entirely of graphic images (i.e. there is no text on the page).
I want this page to be visible in the table of contents when exported for Kindle and/or ePub, but I can't for the life of me figure this out.
I've tried creating a layer on the title page and adding "Title Page" text to it and applying the correct TOC style.  This gets the page on the TOC, but the "Title Page" text is visible.  I've tried turning off "Print Layer" and "Show Layer" for this layer, but the text is still visible on the page when exported.
    Any ideas?
I'm beginning to think that I'm going to have to edit the TOC manually after it's exported, but I was trying to avoid this.
    Thanks,
    Kim

    Hi Wagner,
Thanks for the reply.  I've tried what you suggested in #1.  In short, I:
Created a style called Chapter Number Invisible based on my Chapter Header style, which is a TOC style.
I made one change to this by making the color "Paper."
I then added the text, "Title Page" to the title page and applied the style.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Kindle export handles white or non-colored text, and thus, I still get the text showing on the page after export.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, it looks like I'm going to have to edit the TOC manually, which is a pain.
    Thanks again,
    Kim

  • Fonts jagged in InDesign and PDF export

I've been troubleshooting this issue for days, with no success. I'm using IDCS6 on a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion, and it probably happens with all fonts, but I've noticed it specifically with "Din mittelschrift" at a large pt. size and 100% magnification. It wouldn't be a terrible thing, since it's not noticeable in most of the document, but I'm trying to create a catalog of sorts (as a series of 2-page spreads) and the brand's name on the cover has the most obnoxiously rough edges - I can't send the PDF off to anyone in this condition.
I'm an experienced computer user but an InDesign novice, so I've been trying various things I've found online that successfully solved others' problems, without having a very clear idea of what many things in ID do. Reading a few Adobe tutorials didn't enable me to fix things, either.
I've seen others post that jagged-looking fonts can clear up when exported to a PDF, but that didn't work. When I export to a PDF, interactive or not, it appears jagged at 100% - though strangely enough, at 300% it looks fine.
I checked my ID display settings. It's jagged even at High Quality - and display settings in InDesign wouldn't affect the PDF, anyway.
I made sure the font was installed in the proper place (Library/Fonts), cleared my font cache, and restarted the computer.
I tried converting the text to outlines in InDesign.
I tried setting the opacity to 99.9%.
I changed the color of the text to a grey (240/240/240) to reduce the contrast in case that was an issue.
The rest of the document appears fine in InDesign and as a PDF. No extreme jagged edges or low-quality appearance.
Right now the document is intended to only be viewed on a screen, but since I'm unsure if I'll ever be asked to prepare it for printing I created it using ID's print layout. I've been avoiding converting it to a web layout because that would mean hours of reformatting, and I figure that fonts should render with smooth edges no matter what the layout is set as.
I think I've done more than what's listed above, but forgotten the specifics.
I'll try anything short of destroying the catalog and starting over.
    Thank you!

Can you take a screenshot of what this looks like and post it?
Also, I've noticed that sometimes weird crap will show up when you view something in Acrobat. Like you can see a line between the font and the stroke, but when you zoom way in, it looks fine. It will print fine as well. Just a display issue. Can you print it? When you print it does it look like crap?

  • Generate a PDF export and getting the file or the bytestream to modify it

    Hi everybody
I have a web dynpro application and want to get the bytestream or the PDF file itself.
Is there a function (RFC, J2EE-Method, ABAP methode/class) where I can say
"Hey function, generate a PDF export of a BI report and save the PDF file <br>somewhere in the KM or return the bytestream of the PDF"
I must be able to define following parameters
    -BI template name
-values for the selection mask (the same as the BEx BI-Commands to prefill a field in the selection mask)
-KM path + filename (if the function saves the file in the KM)
    What I already tried:
    Broadcast to KM
I can start the broadcast automatically using the report RSRD_BROADCAST_STARTER. But the problem is that I can't generate a broadcast setting and so I'm not able to define the filename and selectionmask data dynamically.
    Package RSRD
When you enter the transaction SE80 and look for the package "RSRD" there are a lot of interesting classes and methods. But I couldn't figure out how to call them to generate a PDF export of a BI report.
    FM RSADOB_PDFREPORT_GENERATE
This function module have all the parameters I wish. The problem is that it does not work anymore. It's just an internal test for the SAP guys themselves.
    So ...
Have anybody an idea how to solve this?
How to generate a PDF export of a BI report and fill the selection mask and get the PDF (as bytecode or file in the KM) ?
    Thanks lot
    Klaudio

    hi,
Like you said.. steps are simple and clearly mentioned in guide.
    1. create a variable of type string
    2. after configuring the file adapter , go to corresponding receive activity , go to properties tab
    3. search for a property with name as jca.file.FileName . This basically keeps track of file name
    4. for this property, give the value as name of variable created in step 1 above
    5. Use this variable anywhere in assign / transform

  • I Paid for PDF Export and the files are not converting correctly

I purchased PDF Export to take a PDF file and convert it to a text file so I could import it into excel, when doing so I get a bunch of extra symbles plus the numbers that i'm trying to convert are not complete.

Could you try disabling the 'Recognize text' function and convert the file again?
Let us know how it goes!
