TOC hyperlinking

I've created an Indesign book file and I'm trying to get the TOC page hyperlinked for export to EPUB. I've tried everything but nothing holds once I've exported - not hyperlinks and not bookmarks. Anyone have a solution?

Sounds like you need customization that isn't practical w/iBA. The default TOC is designed so that iBooks readers can expect a certain amount of navigation consistency.
In that case, you may want to look at using Pages, as an example, where you'll have considerable more control.
That said, confirm you iBA process w/ Publishing With iBooks Author

  • PDF Maker Tab missing, Convert Word to PDF w/ Hyperlinks TOC

    Hello all,
I have been reading documents for days and still do not have any answers.  Obviously frustrated, but still going strong.
Here is my situation, we have word documents that we are converting to PDF that have TOCs/ Hyperlinks and Bookmarks in that are not converting to the PDFs.  The guests will be viewing these documents in a PDF reader.
I am using MS Word 2013 and Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
Everything I read keeps talking about a Adobe Tab in Office.  I have checked to make sure the add-in is selected but nothing appears.
Please help, I just talked our company into spending the money for Adobe and now it is not working.
    Thank you for your help,

Certainly you need the Acrobat tab in Office, it's that which you need to focus on fixing.
Have you applied all updates to Acrobat XI? What version do you currently have (11.x.y)?

  • Building Book TOC in CS4-Problem with cross chapter TOC links in Acro pro

QUESTION: How do I fix the CS4 or ACROBAT v9 Pro Extended problem to fix cross chapter TOC Hyperlinks in BOOKs.
PROBLEM: When I build a CS4 BOOK TOC, the TOCs show up in the .indd. However when I .pdf the book, the links fail.
I am an experienced Framemaker v7 Pro. In the last 2 weeks I have had success designing a 10 chapter book in CS4.
This was very intuitive! Congratulations CS4 developers.
    Thanks CS4 developers and community.

    HI there,
I recreated the TOC and now the update works. I think perhaps I edited the previous TOC within the TOC rather than in the actual documents and perhaps that caused the update problem.
    So problem solved.

  • Hyperlink in Table of Contents

    Hi.
I can make page numbers in TOC to act like a hyperlink (Inspector//Document Inspector/TOC/ tick "Make Page Numbers Links"), but is it possible to make the whole paragraph in TOC to become a hyperlink? It's much easier to click on paragraph.
    Thanks
    Miran

Thank you both Fruhulda and Peter. In meantime I learned that once exported to pdf, TOC hyperlinks works. And that's exactly what I wanted.

  • Odd id tags in exported EPUB

I've just exported an EPUB from InDesign CC 2014, and I've noticed some odd id tags scattered throughout the text at apparently random locations (in between words, etc) -- there is also one right at the beginning of the HTML content. They look like <a id="x.16448"/> (that is the first one) and the five-digit number always has 16 in the beginning, but increases in increments of about 3-9 as I move through the book.
The print edition of this title had an index, but I've deleted all the index reference tags already. I don't think it's related to the TOC either. Any ideas? I can regex them out easily but I'm just curious.
    Thanks
    AZ

I went back and turned on Hidden Characters and there are two dots there (like a colon). I've seen this mentioned elsewhere on these forums in a discussion about TOC hyperlink errors on EPUB export:
toc hyperlinks that don't have target text anchor information
So I guess they are unused hyperlink destinations, and they can be deleted in ID. But I'm not sure I understand how they ended up in my text.

  • Dragging multiple pages from TOC to the topic to create automatic hyperlinks

In my project, I have few topics that contains the hyperlinks of approximately 10 topics. Now, I drag individual page from the TOC to the topic page to create automatic hyperlink. However, I want to select multiple pages in the TOC and drag them at once to create appropriate hyperlinks at once. This will save my time in creating various links.

    Hi there
That's not presently possible with RoboHelp. You need to consider asking for it via the Wish Form (linked below)

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • How can i get browse sequence widgets to follow hyperlinks instead of TOC?

I've created a screen layout based on the standard desktop layout and am using the default browse sequence (back, next) widget buttons included with the layout. Our topics include a number of hyperlinks to other help topics - for example, a dialog box overview topic might include a link to a how to topic for that dialog. I would like the browse sequence buttons to follow the hyperlink paths to the previous and next topics viewed. Right now, they instead go to the previous and next topics in the TOC. Is there a way to modify the properties of the buttons to follow the hyperlinks instead?
    Thanks for your help!

I think you are confusing Previous and Next in a browse sequence with Previous and Next as in path followed by the user.
A browse sequence is not necessarily the next item in a TOC. It is whatever you set up, TOC order is a default.
You can have path followed Previous and Next in addition using javascript methods. You will find solutions posted in these forums.

  • TOC  and hyperlinks in PDF

    CS3 (5.0.4) on Mac 10.5.7 (Leopard)
When I generate a TOC, if i select the "Create PDF bookmarks" option, the entries also create hyperlinks to the location within the PDF.
In the PDF, if I click on the TOC entry, it jumps to the page where the entry starts.
    All well and good.
Where I am confused is the Hyperlinks panel in InDesign.
These hyperlinks do not show up in the panel.
However, if I select the text in the TOC and choose "Hyperlink Options..." in the Hyperlink panel, it gives me the options for that link, including a weird name, such as .7890 that I assume is auto-generated.
So it seems that there is a hyperlink there, I just don't see it in the panel.
(I do however, see a list of bookmarks in that panel.)
If I create a TOC where the "create PDF bookmarks" is not checked, it still seems to create hyperlinks, they just aren't active, or they don' t have a destination(?). If I select text in the TOC and choose "Hyperlink options..." it shows me the options (the hyperlink type shows up as "All Types"). Furthermore, I can't select the text and choose "New hyperlink" which indicates to me that there is already a hyperlink there.
Can someone explain to me how the creation of hyperlinks/bookmarks from a TOC is working and if I can make the auto-generated hyperlinks appear in the hyperlinks panel?
I've read through the sections in Help and in RealWorld InDesign CS3.
    Thanks!

No, is not at all a problem related to maintaining forms.
    All the contrary.
Please be kind and read again the post, is a problem with links, with the integrity of the file, with anomalies in behavior, just with many things far beyond the user that can not be reduced to that known resource:

  • Convert word 2010 TOC to pdf without numbering and hyperlink errors

I made an automatic TOC (Table of Contents) for my Manual of procedures using the automatic creation under the Reference tab-create a table of contents. It looks great in word. I made sure the hyperlink is clicked in word as well. When I convert this document to pdf using adobe acrobat XI, the numbering of the TOC just changes to incorrect numbering. And the hyperlinks work only for a few initial pages only. I have 22 pages. Once converted, the TOC shows that I only have 16 pages and the linking is incorrect. How can I convert this and keep the numbering correct and also allow for the hyperlinks in the pdf document? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I bought this product (Adobe XI pro) for the same purpose. After waisting many hours and digging through google and Adobe community, I learned it doesn't work, at least not for Mac. I HATE ADOBE!!!! GIVE MY MONEY BACK!
This is a 15-20 year od bug in Acrobat. That Adobe refuse to fix. In this case they blame MS Office claiming they don't have the "proper hooks" for web Links. But it’s a red herring. The Mac Version of Office has the same exact hooks as the PC version. You can take a Mac version of the word file. Unopened on a PC and Drop on AcrobatPC and the links will appear. This has been proven by MS MVP's and employees. The defect is squarely with Acrobat and acrobat alone.
You can have weblinks as long as they have been created with Office Auto-correct feature both http: 's and mailto: 's.  Go to Print menu > hold down PDF key until context menu apppears. Next choose adobe PDF. Now when first screen appears choose quality of PDF and whether to have Acrobat or reader Open immediately.   Click okay. Next screen  browse to desired save location. And you can alter the name. Click save. Tou links will appear and will be active.
Another way which is easier  for one or two page PDF's:
Save word file in .docx format.
Now Dragthe file from save location and Drop on top of the Acrobat icon in the Dock.
Wait for a few minutes while file is processed (it like using Distiller) You might be able to dring a couple of cups of tea or coffee while waiting.
The the PDF will suddenly appear
    Save immediately.
Now any links created by autocorrect will appear and be active.
Both of these two methods only started working in Acrobat X, and XI so someone finally figured partially how to fix the 15 year old Problem

  • TOC imported as Text Inset does not have active hyperlinks in PDF

    Hello,
The template I've inherited uses a method in which the TOC appears in the main FM doc as an imported text inset. To create the TOC, a standalone TOC is created and then imported as a text inset to the specific location in the main file. When this FM file is saved as a PDF the TOC page's hyperlinks don't work.
--Am I doing something wrong, or is this a limitation of importing text insets as a TOC?
    Thanks,
    Donna

  • Hyperlinks that return back to TOC?

    Hi all,
Sorry if this is a common question -- I've tried searching the InDesign help resources and on this forum too but haven't turned up any answers, so here goes!
I'm currently exporting book PDFs with print presets, and then manually clicking the checkboxes to add bookmarks and hyperlinks (doing this because automatically creating an interactive PDF doesn't allow me to make single-paged PDFs). Anyway, the links within my table of contents work just fine, but I'm wondering if there is an easy way to have the links jump back to the TOC? (So if I click on Chapter 1: The Beginning, I am taken to page five or whatever, and then if I click on the Chapter 1 heading, I can be taken back to the TOC.) I've seen this in action but just can't seem to figure it out. Thanks in advance!

    Hello Gary,
what about selecting the TOC styles and give all TOC levels a smaller font of one or two points in size, or would the TOC texts be too small by doing that? Than give the TOC levels another font, for example a condensed one. You can set different styles for the titles and for the numbers (but you can't save the different styles in the style list). The last two ways I can imagine (and of course the most work intensives), is to change the page layout or do the TOC by hand.
Unfortunatly, there is no way of inserting any kind of symbol, whitespace or control character (only one tab stop for setting the spacing between the title and the page number and the symbol that fits this spacing) to the TOC.
    Frank.

  • Pages9 hyperlinking and TOC in templates

Is adding a Table of Contents impossible when using a template in pages. I've watched the videos and read the instructions (looks simple) but can not hyperlink or create a TOC. Looks easy but when I build a file using one of Page's templates, all the choices (Sections button in the toolbar, Header 1 and Header 2, select page numbers, etc. in the inspector panel) are not there or greyed out? However if I open a Word Processing document everything works as far as bookmarks, hyperlinks and building a table of contents. In apple's video for Pages they are doing it on one of their Template styles.
Any help would be much appriciated. Thank you.

I haven't counted, but about half the templates are Page Layout and the rest are Word Processing. All the templates in the Word Processing section of the template chooser will allow TOC.

  • TOC treeing in sync with hyperlink navigation

A requirment for the project I'm working on is to create a process map (check) that links to procedure documents (check, using hyperlink mapping).  All good, but the TOC in the left pane needs to open/tree out to the document that has been jumped to through the hyperlink.  Is there a way in RoboHelp 9 (upgrading tomorrow) to make the TOC sync to the open document?
    Thank you,
    Rob

    Hi Rob
Saying "HTML" is the output is like asking what brand of automobile you drive and you tell us it's a Car.
However, you did also say that "it's the output for the company intranet" so that does hopefully narrow the choices somewhat. So my guess here is that it's either WebHelp, FlashHelp or Web Based AIR Help.
I'll choose WebHelp here. If it's something different, you can come back and tell us or possibly you will see what I'm showing here in the dialog and that may help with another output type.
Look at the Navigation section of the Single Source Layout recipe.
