Today I had too much coffee

By installing of an EHP1 on a solution manager at this time by 50% finalization, I've broken my own record of creating ABAP dumps...
at this time and for today:  "11431 Runtime Errors" on Jun 25, 2009 4:26 PM

A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?  Obviously the device is operational.  Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn?  If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

You can't. The ONLY solution is to restore the device. If there were an easy way around the passcode lock, it wouldn't serve much purpose, would it?

  • Help. Too much coffee.

I an not a newbie when it comes to computers, but I am not a software developer and don't want to be,
and I know little or nothing about Java and don't want to, but I am confused, very confused.  This all started
because I got into bit torrents (Azureus) but have decided that is not for me.  So I wanted to back out all the
stuff installed on my notebook related to this.  The installation of Azureus included the need for JRE 1.5.0.1
(jre-1_5_0_01-windows-i586-p.exe) which was installed.  I have uninstalled the Azureus software but have
a ton of Java stuff and need to know what I should do IF ANYTHING.  Thanks for bearing with me so far.
What follows is all the information I have gathered about this matter.
C:\Program Files\Java contains the following folders.

      j2re1.4.2_05
      j2re1.4.2_06

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files contains the following folders.  Please note that browsers installed are

Your help will be most appreciated.
You can direct replys to [email protected] if necessary.

I just hate all the effort involved with
reinstalls from the OS up. You certainly know as
well as I do that adding and removing software always
leaves residue. Whatever, I do appreciate the help I
received on this thread. As for your sense of humor,
it sucks! If you want to continue with this nonsense
let us get off the forum. E-mail me direct.
[email protected] should work for you.
Cool down, Glenn. I have to admit, when I read your post about BitTorrent, I thought pretty much the same as javajugs did... it just sounded like it. The situation was pretty much like the moment a (female) friend of mine once proclaimed on a party - without any context - "I'm a virgin". This lead to many a raised brow from those who heard it, and to curious glances at her boyfriend, until she finally muttered "I meant my star sign"...
Sometimes, people just associate the wrong thing. Don't be aggravated by that. Say it how it is, and everything's cool.
Back to your problem: does it still exist? You shouldn't need to reinstall the OS just because of Java, and the uninstallations of the JVM work relatively cleanly. If you want to really make sure that all of it is gone, check your file system, the registry and the environment variables - the PATH was extended and the CLASS_PATH was added.
After that, either re-install Java 1.5 JRE or don't, depending on how much you care. It's not necessary for everyday's use (except applets), but it basically doesn't hurt to have it either.

  • Too much activity?

Every so often, on my work computer, a G4 Titanium, iChat will knock me offline and when I try to sign back on, it says I was kicked off because of too much activity. The strange part is, this usually happens when I haven't touched it in a while.
    Any thoughts?

    HI Daniel,
Does it imply you had too much activity or that the Service had too much Activity and you were only logged in so it closed you out to make room ?
I have not seen a message I could interpret either way.
I have seen a Too Much Data too Quickly message related to some of the below.
Do you have any Add-Ons that alter the Status Message frequently or have the iTunes Status item Active ?
Any AppleScritps to do similar ?
Any Add-On that changes the Buddy pic frequently ?
Or send s streaming video as Buddy pic (Animated iCon ?)

  • Apple USB keyboard drawing too much power

I had my apple slim keyboard for more than a year and it always worked perfectly.
Last week I started receiving this error message at the login screen:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
Changing the USB port used to solve the problem. Since this Sunday I can't get the keyboard to work on any USB port.
No other devices are using the keyboard as an HUB and the iMac has all the latest updates installed.
I tried on a Macbook and got the same result, while if connected to an HP laptop it works.
    I already tried:
    - changing USB ports on the rear of the iMac
    - attaching it on an externally powered USB HUB
    - resetting PRAM
    - resetting SMC
    - cleaning the contacts of the USB cable and the ports on the keyboardù
    - attaching usb devices to the ports on the keyboard will give them power, but those are not recognized by the system
Any clues? I ran out of ideas...
    thanks

It's related to the current drawn through the USB port itself which us monitored by the SMC and interpreted by the OS. Without getting too technical, Macs are better "tuned" to detect these issues. It sounds like your keyboard is dead or dying as it is drawing more than it's allocated current threshold. Solution, replace the keyboard. Some possible causes over time include, sweaty hands, humidity, coffee - it's the sugar over time that does the damage.

  • 2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

    Hi, all.
Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

  • OS Lion Slow, is it too much for my MBP?

    hi everyone-
I have a 2007 model MBP, 2.33 GHz Intel core 2 duo. I upgraded everything I could within the last year with a 500 gb internal hard drive and 4GB 667 MHz memory installed. Out of that 500GB hard drive, almost 290GB are available.
I upgraded to Lion and everything seemed to run well at first and was impressed with the speed. However recently everything has slowed down. I searched the forums and found tips on disk repair and repairing permissions, which ended up making the OS unable to boot at the startup screen. Thank god for time machine. Long story short, I pulled out my old Snow Leopard disk and reinstalled (yes I also tried the lion recovery, which didn't help), and then went and reinstalled lion from the app store. 1 weekend later and now Monday, I'm back to having everything running. However today I am noticing that the apps are lagging once again, and I'm constantly getting the beach ball and little gestures are taking forever to load.  Could Lion be too much for my MBP, which up until recently flew?
Any and all suggestions will be helpful. I use my MBP everyday for my workload, so getting this to perform again and keep up with my demand is extremely important.
    Thanks!

Check the SMART status in Disk Utility. Other than that, not that I know of. Perhaps more advanced disk utilities like Disk Warrior, but I don't know.
You would hear the disk making a lot of noise if it were having issues accessing a bad sector.
I had a drive that started causing slow-downs and beach balls for a while. Erased drive and reinstalled. Same thing. The SMART status in Disk Utility showed Verified up until the drive died completely.

  • Usb port rejects midi Keyboard saying too much power being used?

    Hello,
any one had an issue with their USB plug in device saying that it was drawing too much power so have disabled the device? I bought my son a keyboard for Christmas. However just today it's stopped letting him use the keyboard due to the USB connection failure. Any clues?

This is a common problem with USB ports. The only permanent solution is to create your own powered set of USB ports. You do that with a powered USB hub, any powered USB hub will do. You plug the hub into a wall outlet for power, and to the Mac for connectivity. All your USB devices can then be plugged into the hub without drawing any extra power from the Mac. Cameras, printers, scanners, keyboards, what ever are all plugged into the hub. You can have as many ports as you want!

  • Using too much power

Help, my dearly beloved 60 gig classic a couple of weeks ago stopped charging with the usb cable. I have a I-fusion speaker system that I bought along with the Ipod a few years ago and it is able to charge the Ipod. Here is the problem, Today when I tried to sync it told me that my usb device was drawing too much power and shut down. I tried a couple of different cables and put it on my pc and then tried my MacBook Pro and had the same result on both. Anyone have any ideas? I am a missionary in Mexico and really do not have much access to help, I have changed my own screens and battery and earphone dock in the past (a year and a half ago) so I can take it apart if anybody has any ideas. Long, Long past warranty, just want my old friend back.

Bumping this one last time to the top. Anybody have a suggestion, love my Classic. No shops close, live in Mexico. sorry for the bump, but don't want to pull the plug.

  • Suddenly using too much data?

    Hi everyone,
I have had my iphone 5 for over a year. For the first couple of months I had problems with using too much data but eventually learned it was my email causing the issues (it was updating automatically). Fast forward this past Christmas. I got an iPad 2, and ONLY use it at home when it's connected to WiFi. To be completely honest, I am not even 100% sure if it supports cellular data at all, although I don't believe it does as there's nothing mentioned of cell data in Settings. Now for the past 2 months, I have been using too much data and having to pay extra on our cell bill and I have no idea what has changed besides updating the iPad and my phone (I just updated my phone a couple days ago) to iOS 7.0.6. The charges aren't enormous or anything, I think it was around $8 extra last month but still, I don't know what has changed. I have already gotten a text from my provider (Telus - Canadian company) today saying that I am now paying for my data usage, because we (my husband and I combined) have used our data alotment for the month. I know the problem is my phone because I used about double the amount of data as he did on our last bill. I tried calling my provider, but I was on hold for ages so I will give it another go tomorrow if I can't get something figured out in the meantime.
So my questions are: 1) Could it be the iPad using data? I do have it set so that it backs up to iCloud when plugged in (I believe, my sister in law set it up for me), and it syncs my photos from iphone to the ipad. As you can probably tell, I am just slightly technologically illiterate here. I also did get a new keyboard case for it last month that uses bluetooth.
    2) If it's not the ipad, any ideas of where the data could be going? I use my phone mainly for texts and calls, Facebook, email, some internet browsing, but it is set to WiFi. I mostly use it at home where there is a WiFi connection. Although my young kids do play Angry Birds and watch some videos when we are driving. I don't believe the amount of games they play and videos they watch have changed though, that has been an ongoing thing.
Thanks for any advice, I would like to nip this in the bud before something gets out of control.

Update: I got my bill today, and as suspected I have used way more than half of our shared data plan (which is 1GB - I used 1760Mb). I have had my cellular data either completely turned off, OR turned on but not allow any apps to use it (I noticed that I was having some issues with not being able to send/receive texts if my data was compeltely turned off... Not sure why, but that's another post I guess)  since I started this post. I called Telus and she wasn't able to tell me where any of my data was going, she just kept saying "well you've only spend $3.69 in data for last month" and asked me if I was completely closing out apps, which I do every other day or so. She just recommended that I download an app called My Data Manager to set a limit on how much cellular data I am using, however the app doesn't tell me WHERE the data is going which is my concern. So I'm kind of back at square one. I'm not sure if I should allow my kids to play their games and do as I normally do on the phone until the data gets racked up and then I can try to figure out where it's going, or what. My billing cycle started on March 18 and since then I have used 1MB (approx.) of data, but I was in the US for 4 of those days and had the data turned off completely, so again not sure where that 1MB went. One thing I have started doing that is new, is playing downloaded music (music that I have on iTunes, and put onto my phone) in the car. I thought since it is music that I have put onto the phone (not streaming music) it wouldn't be using any data, but on March 19 (the day before we left for the US), I was playing music in the car with my data turned off, and when a song ended and I tried to play another one it said that the cellular data was turned off and I needed to turn it on. I didn't turn it on, but I did put the phone into airplane mode and was able to play my music that way. Could that be using cellular data? If so, then I know where it has been going!
