Today my Photoshop began locking up
My Photoshop began locking up and shutting down today each time I tried to save a file as a .PNG.
Yeah, ya know, your request for help is next to useless...what version of Photoshop? What OS? What version?
If you want help, you need to help the helper...we can't read minds ya know.

Photoshop 6 locked up while trying to upload cell phone pic...need help!!!!
I tried to upload 97 pictures from my cell phone to photoshop elements 6 on my computer. The first 31 uploaded then photoshop became locked up and I can't do anything with it. I went back through my camera and turns out there were 2 videos of my daughter riding her bike for the first time that come right after picture 31..This has apparently caused the lockup but I don't know what to do. The adobe phone line help support guy had no idea either and said he could'nt support 6.o anyway and sent me to this forum he said was run my adobe photoshop engineers who could help me. I was able to upload all 97 pix plus the two short videos to a windows viewer on my comupter and have deleted the videos off my cameras memory card. When I tried to upload the 97 pix again to photoshop 6.0 it locks up and says these pix already exist in photoshop. I'm very technologically challenged and haven't backed up the pictures on my photoshop in a couple years (Yes..I know..not smart!) So, can one please tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks so much!!!!!!

Did you manage to find a solution for this? We are in NZ and having the same issue across out network of agency computers... Our IT supports answer is to overhaul the machines (at a huge cost!) but we're not even sure this is going to work... a bit ridiculous that you pay for a product you can't use properly and then have to pay for someone to fix it, which even then, might not work!
If you haven't found a solution, we did find a way around the vaildation for Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Bridge. At the validation screen if you click on the text to sign in as another user, it takes you to another screen. Resign in as the same user (yourself) and then it should let you access these programmes. Although you have to do it everytime you open it. Unfortunately we can't get it to work at all for Acrobat, it lasts about 2 seconds and then automatically quits.

my iphone 4 turned black today and my sleep(lock) button doesnt work. I have tried to let it charge to see if it would restart but still nothing. what else can i do to turn it back on??
Unless somebody else has a micracle workaround I don't know. Probably get the phone in for repair since it has been living on borrowed time so far and now you absolutely must have a working button.

I have had Photoshop CS5 installed and working on my computer since it was first released.
Today, it is operating very slow and locks up for 15-30 seconds at a time. When I check with Windows Task Manager I see the Status as "Not Responding". When I check the performance in Windows Task Manager I see the CU usage at only 0% or 1%.
I have deleted the Adobe Photoshop Settings File a number of times. I have shut down and restarted both the computer and Photoshop many times.
I can not get any work done with it operating this way. Can anyone give me a clue as to what may be causing this problem?
Edit: Further checking shows that the delay is very long to open the action window, and longer yet if I try to run any action. Every time I click to open the action window, or to run an action, their is about a 30-40 second delay before anything happens. If I close the action window I can continue working with much less delays.
LawrenceDo you have any drive letters mapped to them?
If so, try turning them on or unmapping them and see if the slowness problem abates.
If this is the problem, in the long run you could access them using UNC names (e.g., if you have drive W: pointed at \\SERVER\SHARE you could just open Explorer windows, etc. using \\SERVER\SHARE directly).
I've noticed my external MyBook USB backup drive spins up sometimes when I'm using Photoshop, and it quite possibly does slow things down while the system waits for it to get to speed. However that only takes 4 or 5 seconds so I just ignore it. It would be nice to one day figure out why Photoshop accesses that drive though. I certainly don't have it configured as scratch.

Photoshop CS6 locks up the computer while doing a few things.
I have been battling this issue since I installed CS6 on this machine. I have been able to reproduce this lock up consistantly using the Lighting Effects, and I can also get it to lock up while using the Lasso tool, and also setting guides, but those are less consistant. I have tried to switch the advanced graphics options around too. It is currently on normal though. I currently have the GeForce Drivers v. 320.14 installed, which at the time of this post is the most rtecent stable build. I have followed basically every post or suggestion I could find on the web to solve this issue, but nothing works as of yet. I have even gone so far as to try every GeForce driver from 295.73 to 320.14 with no luch at resolution. Some of the drivers let me get a little further with the lighting effects, but still eventually lock up the computer... Currently I have had to uninstall Photoshop and then re-install it just to get PDF export to work right, but even after updating to the newest version of PS, I still get these lockups.
Please let me know what I am missing here.

Photoshop files locking up Finder (preview not loading) and empty photoshop files... 18mb!
Hi all,
We've been having some problems with all of our Photoshop files recently. It seems to be a problem that's been duplicated throughout during the design progression.
When using finder to navigate through our design folders, it often locks up for 5 - 10 seconds per file while finder tries to load the preview thumbnails (and fails, showing just the psd icon). I checked compatibility was checked on save as. I also checked the colour profile was being embedded. On some files it wasn't so I checked this, but still having the same slowdown.
As a test I then deleted all the layers in the doc, saved it again - and even though the file only had one blank layer - it was 18mb in size!
I then made a new document of the same resolution, saved it - and boom. 120kb or so and preview works fine.
I then opened one of the problem PSD's with all the layers - dragged them over to a new document of the same size, saved it - and the file and preview in finder works fine.
Obviously there's something of around 18mb in weight in all of our old files that is causing a real issue with finder and previews. Other than layers (as there are none) - what could it be? We're using a mix of cs6 / cc and cc 2014.
Any help on this would be appreciated!OK, that means that the Finder is having problems with that folder. That could be due to corrupt disk data structures, or you could be hitting some of the known (and not yet fixed) bugs in MacOS's Finder related to thumbnails and metadata parsing.
As for file size - other metadata (especially image history, and sometimes color profiles) can really add to the file size. -
Photoshop CC locking up saying "Reading Camera Raw Format" when opening file from Lightroom
When I open a file from Lightroom, CC opens and asks about sending data to Adobe, and no matter what answer you give the program locks up at the "Reading Camera Raw Format" prompt.
What files from which camera do you use? Where are they stored? What system? Are Lightroom and Photoshop properly updated and use the same RAW settings? Provide more info.

Photoshop CS6 Locked/Frozen/Stuck upon startup
I use Windows OS 7, Photoshop CS6. I've run this program on this computer many times before, but now when I try to run it, while it still makes it past the splash screen, the window will lock up in the bottom left corner (only the top right of the Photoshop window is visible). I am unable to manipulate the window in any way. If I cascade all of my desktop windows, photoshop comes back to a regular position, but the window is still completely locked. I've tried restarting the program, restarting the computer, I have added no plug-ins to the program, though I have tried the ctrl-shift-alt advice at the splash screen and no dialogue box will open. Please advise...
To reset you have to enter the keystrokes before you see the splash screen. Immediately after starting.
Look closely when it loads before resetting. See if you can see on what step it stops loading. -
PC; When I launch Adobe Photoshop CC, that I bought, the app "locks" down. It disables my power to create new files, etc. I have contacted multiple times, and all technicians failed to fix it. Any ideas?
P.S. Happy Holidays.All I had to do was update PhotoShop CC. Thanks anyways.

Photoshop CS "Locked" in windows vista 32 bit
Everything in CS works except for Photoshop. Error msg "failed to initialize. go to properties in windows explorer to unlock". I can't find any tab or button in explorer that has "lock" or "unlock". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Run as administrator is set. All the properties match the same as properties for Illustrator and Indesign. Anti virus and windows defender are turned off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had PS CS6 since it came out, and it was steady as a rock. Ever since I've moved to PS CC, it locks up about every 30-60 minutes. It doesn't crash, just freezes. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del and start the task manager and kill the application there to start over. Anybody else experienceing this? I'm running windows 7 on the same machine that had CS6 on it, and I'm not doing anything different than I used to do with CS6. I've applied all the patches that are available in CC.....

Dougdswebb, Looks like PS is not getting the required resources. Reboot the machine and try the below suggestions.

Try resetting the PS CC preferences and check if it's an issue with corrupt preferences : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
Try to open PS CC in Plugin Disabled mode and check the same. For that Press Shift+PS CC icon and hit Yes.

Photoshop 7 locks up when selecting the color picker.
My wonderful Photoshop 7 has worked perfectly for years, but now, when selecting the colour picker, the whole site locks up, requiring ending the task and losing the work in hand.
What operating system are you using?

I had a message that I had an update to my Photoshop Elements 7 and I clicked to do the update. Afterwards, I now can load the program but when I try to do a task, i.e. add a tag, start a new album, etc., the program locks up. I have rebooted mutiple times and the same issue is there. Do I reload the program? If so, will I loose the work I've done in Organize, etc.
The Organizer preferences may have become corrupted, needing to be automatically re-built on a re-start.
Close Elements and click the Windows start button.
Navigate to:
John > AppData >Roaming >Adobe >Photoshop Elements >9.0 >Organizer
Delete the PSA file (with key symbol) and delete Status.dat
Re-start the program
N.B. replace John with your own user name
