Today's Mini-trick: seeing actual Key Photo crops
Hi. One in a wildly infrequent series. The usual caveats apply (mainly: there may be a much simpler way to do this; it is likely not to be useful to you).
The Key Photo in a Project is the image Aperture uses in the tile which represents the Project in Project View. Those tiles are square. The problem is, how to accurately preview the square crop Aperture will use, so that you can better select which photo to use as the Key Photo?
In Project View, hover your mouse cursor over the name of the Project and use your left-arrow and right-arrow keys to move from image to image. Hovering your mouse cursor causes Aperture to display the Project's images cropped to the tile, instead of the the whole image fit within the tile.
Type {Spacebar} to set the currently displayed image as the Key Photo.

I'm just curious what other people are seeing for real world large file transfer speeds on their network.
I recommend that you check out this excellent article provided by SmallNetBuilder as they throughly tested the latest generation of the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. You can use their findings as a baseline to compare against what you are seeing.

I have created numerous Events which are labeled and contain pictures, but in the Events window, teachhe group just appears as a black square with the title of the event underneath it in white. When I scroll down the full Events window or move the picture size setting, I can see a key photo for each event, but then when I stop, the black squares (where the picture should show) reappear. So when I click on "i" to set change or set a key photo, there is just a black square - no photo.
When I open the Event group, I do see all the photos in the group. I looked at the Online Help and didn't see this problem addressed.
I'm new to this version of iPhoto, so there must be a setting I have missed.

Thanks.Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

I'm not a "Cloud" member. I just upgraded to Lightroom 6 from Lightroom 5. All was working well yesterday. Today Lightroom will not open (Windows 7). I see the logo photo over my Lightroom platform but nothing loads and I see "Lightroom not responding." I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?
Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.

When I open Iphoto, I see all my photos for a second and then they disappear and only a white dotted box appears. Then I click on it and for photos is a triangle with an exclamation point. It doesn't happen to all but quite a lot. how to I get them back
Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software? Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

Hello I have a problem with my ipod touch 1G the problem is that see me key to the floor! No more key photos in "Photos" view?
After upgrading, I can no longer see key photos in "Photos" view. Is this a setting that I can change, or did iPhoto '11 drop this feature?

I was able to see all my photos previously. When I click on Computers or Screensaver, an automatic download begins, but the same event keeps loading.
I know the exact theme/page you're referring to... you could create a book with that layout in iPhoto and then export the book as jpgs by selecting Print, then clicking the pdf button and select pdf to folder as jpeg. You can select just the one page by selecting the print from X to X page numbers inthe print dialog box. Just remember that the number on the page doesn't necessarily correspond to the actual page number--count the pages in the preview to determine which page you're on. iPhoto doesn't number the cover or intro page, but the print dialog counts them.
This will create a new jpg file that you can import to Aperture and use in an Aperture book on a full page bleed formatted page. I've used a combination of Pages and iPhoto layouts to create many of the books I've done and use the Print>PDF to folder as jpeg to export the files, which I then import as full page bleeds into Blurb's booksmart (don't care for many of their layouts). The only potential issue is the proportion isn't always the same, and the resolution from the pdf exports is a bit lower than I'd like--but if I'm using Blurb, their books are smaller, so it works out okay. -

*Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
*Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
*Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
*Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.

.Mac Web Gallery - How to change key photo and order or galleries?
How can I choose which photo is the key photo for each .Mac web gallery? Also, how can I re-arrange the order of the web galleries?
I would really love to see a solution for this too ! Unfortunately I think apple just didn't implement it in Aperture. My .Mac web gallery is about events in my life and it doesn't make any sense to have it sorted alphabetically...
Not being able to simply set a key photo is really annoying too.
The worst is that these two functions are available in iPhoto. All they had to do was copy and paste...

MobileMe Gallery from A3 Does not Display Key Photo
When I post from Aperture 3 to MobileMe, the Gallery preview pic does not display the key photo anymore. Skimming still works, but the preview pic as seen in the gallery is not displayed. Instead of the preview picture, an icon is displayed that is gray with two stacked pictures.
If I go to me.com and manage the gallery from there, I do see a preview picture but not the key photo. Instead, I see the first photo from the project.
In Aperture 2, I did not see these behaviors.

I can skim the gallery (like an event) but then it just gives a generic thumbnail as the key photo. -

I'm wasting a lot of time searching for the right keyword for what I'm trying to do, ack! Please help!
My video starts with the orange linen background and then the titles swoop in.
When I export the video the image I see in Finder is this blank background.
In iPhoto, you can skim pictures the square for each event and pick a "key photo" to represent the event. I thought there was a similar feature in iMovie.
I want to skim to the frame I want to show when the file is selected in Finder, (and also the static frame that shows in a web site or YT until user clicks the Play icon) tell iMovie to make that the representative frame, and be done with it.
I have searched and searched for various keywords in help, online, and Apple support with no luck.
What is this feature called and how to make it happen? Anyone?

You may need to rebuild your iPhoto Library (by holding CMD + Option while opening iPhoto) to clear up potential inconsistencies in your library's database.

How to set the Key Photo in .Mac Web Gallery ?
Has anyone managed to set the key photo in a .Mac Web Gallery album ? The key photo is the photo used on the main page of the Web Gallery to illustrate the event.
In iPhoto, all you do is select in the left column a published .Mac Web Gallery, right-click on the photo you want to set as the key photo, and select "set as key photo".
In aperture, you can do the same in a project, but this will only set the key photo for your "all projects" view. This key photo is not used when exporting the project to .mac web gallery.
In all the web galleries I export from Aperture, the first picture is used as the key photo, it's really a problem. Any solution ?
Message was edited by: skissThere is a small "Header Bar" if you will in iPhoto, you can drag the photo you want to that header bar and I think that accomplishes what you want if I understand what you mean by Key Photo (the photo that shows up in e-mail if you forward the gallery to others). My wife and I stumbled on that solution as we were trying to figure it out. Actually I think wife gets the credit, she had the mouse in her hand when it happened .

I hadn't realised you can do that on Events, I have always right clicked on it and brought up the option to Change key Photo. That doesn't work the same way n Faces, so thanks for the Space Bar trick.

I am having problems seeing old events/photos. It looks my problems started when I updraded to OS X
I am unable to see my old photos/events on IPhoto and I fear I might have lost them for good. It looks it all started when I upgraded my OS to OS X Maverics.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
