Today's update has hung at completing installation ... Less than a min remaining

The blue bar is almost full and shimmering wit a about 1/32" space un filled at the right hand end.
It has sat there for about 10 min now
Before I force a power shut down and reboot is there anything I can try?

and it seems ok though it sat at the white screen with the grey apple logo for about ten times as long as it did for a normal boot I can hear time machine backing up the now updated OS
I sure wish there was a way to get this old pro to take more that the 4 gig of ram it came with. I bet that the small ram space has something to do with the OS updates hanging at the end this way.

Latest update 7.1.2 stuck with less than one minute remaining

I Couldn't download anymore apps and noticed I needed to update my software to the latest version so thought that this would solve the problem. I started the update at 11pm last night and after waiting 2 hours with it on charge and connected to wifi it still said less than one minute remaining. Searches on internet suggest a hard reboot but will this loose my apps as some I have are no longer available to get? I have backed up photos etc to the cloud so not too worried about those.

If you can't download apps, it's probably because you don't have sufficient storage space. You need to increase your Available space.

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.

try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

Migration assistant has halted at "less than a minute remaining"

Im in the process of transferring my MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro.
Since I didn't have a Thunderbolt cable and the ethernet cable is not an option on the new MacBook Pro I have done it wirelessly.
At the start is had 29 hrs to complete…I have been extremely patient until now…this is 2 days into the transfer.
It says it has "less than a minute remaining"…would be great if that were true.
Its been stuck on that now for 3 hrs.
I did note the time remaining kept going up and down during the transfer so I'm hoping this is the case and it will eventually finish.
Any suggestions on what to do if it doesn't change anytime soon?

I had this problem migrating from my iMac; a late 2009 24in FW800 with Mavericks, to a late 2013 27inch Thunderbolt. Migration Assistant hung at "lass than a minute" for over an hour and change... My back up drives had two F800 interfaces and a USB. I was abe to plug an additional drive into one of the remaining available ports on the back of my Time Capsule drive. This woke up the Time Capsule drive and finished the migration installation process.
I beleive the setting "put Hard Drives to sleep when possible" must have been on by default on the unused OS without my awareness. The action of plugging in an additional drive to the remaining port on my Time Capusle back up drive woke the Time Capsule drive up and then in completed almost imediately. Hope this helps and that any future readers have a BAck Up drive with more than one port and an extra device or drive they can plug into in (Daisy Chain Style) to get the Capusle drive to complete. It says "less than a minute remaining" and has been stuck on that for over 12 hours. I'm transferring information from my PC to Mac - all was going well for the first 8 hours, then it just hung.

Hold down the power button for a few seconds to force a shutdown, then restart. It will probably be OK.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.

Similarily, the iPad 2 did not get Siri and some other features in iOS 6.

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. Had you followed the Setup Assistant's on-screen prompts when you initially turned on your new system you would be running just fine by now. My guess is you haven't been exposed to Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips.
Migration Assistant (MA) and Setup Assistant (SA) are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA creates a new user account which can be confusing to some users. If you successfuly migrated then log out of your existing using account and you should see the new user account. Log into that account then you should see the migrated data. If you do then use Pondini's Transferring files from one User Account to another.
However if you have totally made of mess out of things then I'd start over, this time using the Setup Assistant Tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) Then try the update again.

TS1702 I am updating my IPAD to version 5.1 and the update has stopped before completion. What is the procedure. If I stop the update or restart the IPAD will the update be corrupted and also the IPAD operating system.

You may also want to go to:
~/Library/iTunes/
This is done by going to the "Go" in the Finder and select Go To Folder. Copy and paste:
~/Library/iTunes/
In to Go To Folder selection. Look for a folder called iPad Software Updates. Delete anything in that folder and re download the upadate.

Today's update has helped...here are settings that are working for me...

So, whatever Apple released today seems to have solved some problems. Finally, my new 80211n base stations are working well -- great speed, two base stations, extending the network, USB printer connected to satellite station, all A-Ok so far. After much experimentation, here are settings that are working for me:
Radio mode: 80211n (80211a compatible)
Security: WEP
IPV6 off
Choosing 80211n/a compatible makes WEP security an option, and with WEP, speed is good. WPA still slows things down too much for me.

I've had no problems with WPA. I set my network to "g only" using the alt-key when selecting network type. I turned off NAT, I think that's helped a lot. I've had headache after headache, restarting a few times a day--I had a stable wireless setup with two Expresses for months... I'm hoping this update is going to solve some of those "Where did the Expresses go?" mysteries (restart and they're there again...) Haven't lost iTunes for a few days now, that's a bright spot. I had given up initially on using my external HD for a wireless iTunes repository, with the exception of needing to restart when I wake up or when I come home, iTunes has been trouble free: albums quit cutting out after a few tweaks, and movies and TV shows play straight through now: no further "fade-out-so-iTunes-can-inform-me-it-can't-save-library-do-you-want-me-not-to-r emind-you-again"
I think the major early element that contributed to iTunes stability was to choose a channel. Then g-only, since I have no n-capable elements, then turning off NAT, which I gather is "newish."
Like I say, I have high hopes for this update.
