Toddler spilled coffee on six week old MBA

My precocious toddler managed to spill coffee all over my brand new macbook air (six weeks old).  I reacted very quickly however the keyboard is a cruncht= mess.  I tried to clean everything.....even managed to get under some of the keys.  Not sure what to do next.  I broke two of the scissor clips in the process and right now I'm just crushed.  I really can't afford two new computers.

You can start here:

It will tell you how to contact Apple for service depending on your location.
Good luck.

  • I have a six months old iPhone 5s, it discharges the battery in 1/2 day without extensive use, 5 trips to the Genius Bar to no avail... Frustrated.. Ready to get rid of the phone, very disappointed in apple support!!

I have a six months old iPhone 5s that I use and have to use for work purposes, I have for a approximate battery life of seven or eight hours.
I went to the Genius Bar on five occasions and did not receive substantial help. I was told that I would have some applications crashing in the background but was unable to be told which ones they were. The phone is still on the warranty, but it's Apple tells me that it is not the hardware but my usage. I compared it to some of my colleagues and none of them has a battery problem like I do. I feel like I am left with a product that is not stand up to its specifications, and as a customer being totally left alone with a smart phone that does not even last through a workday. Any suggestions how to get through to Apple with this?? I was always very impressed with Apple's customer service and care up until now, obviously. Now Im ready to jump ship...

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • Shift key somehow stuck on my 2-week old MBP

Did anyone have this problem before?
I turned on my 2-week old uMBP 13" and it wouldn't accept my password! After minutes of frustration, I booted into Single user mode and that was when I realized the Shift key is somehow stuck! Typing will show everything in capital letters, typing "1" will show "!", etc.
No physical damage has been done to this computer, I have not spilled any liquids on it and the keys are definitely not physically stuck (I did pry them off and check to see if there was anything under there).
    Any ideas?
    Thank you so much!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This sounds like a defect and should be handled by warranty. If you have an Apple Store nearby make and appointment and bring it in. If you did not then contact Apple on Monday using the phone number in your manual and call them. They will help you get it taken care of. You are covered by 90 days of phone support so take advantage of it!

  • Spilled coffee on my macbook and now making beep and quieter.

I recently spilled coffee on my macbook and then the hardrive stopped working so I removed the hard drive and saw that it was covered in sticky old coffee. Then I bought a new hard drive and put it in.... The hard drive didnt show up when trying to install mac os x!!!! :O
Now I was thinking it could maybe be the hard drive connector but iunno.
ALSO when i boot it up it takes REALLY long to get to the menu screen for installing mac os x!! AND it also makes a wierd noise like this... beep beep... beep beep... every few seconds!
Anyone know what could be wrong?!?!?!?!?!?

Nobody can tell you specifically what to do next. There could be so many things wrong.
You probably ruined some components in the process and I think it's permanently damaged. If you're handy, you could try to repair it yourself, but this might be an arduous process. The procedure would then be to isolate the components that are causing the slow boot and the beeping. The iFixit.com site is really good for this, with spare parts and repair manuals.
You could also try to sell it on eBay (as broken, just for parts) where it might still fetch you a nice price.

  • My home button keeps getting stuck, my IPhone 5 is four weeks old?

The home button on my iphone5 keeps getting stuck, the hone is four weeks old?

    No it is not common.
If the device is so new, why would you not take it to Apple?  Did you possibly spill something on the device that could have caused the button to become sticky?

  • Spilled Coffee on MacBook Pro

My 9 month old decided to spill coffee (1/2 cup) on my MacBook keyboard. I immedetly unplugged it and shut it off. Tried to turn it on a few min later and nothing happens, no power. Right now I have the back off of it and its sitting in rice.
My question is, since I have already decided to buy a new one cause its my work computer is, what are some things I can start replacing in it to try to fix it? Motherboard? CPU? Power source? Where do I start? I am going to try and fix it and then sell it to try and off set the cost of a new MacBook.
    Thanks guys. :(

First, the fact that you tried to power it on a few minutes after the spill isn't a good thing. It takes days for liquids spilled into a computer to dry, and turning a machine on while wet is almost a guarantee of damage. The fact that it won't respond at all means that the logic board is probably fried, at a minimum.
Also, note that using rice on a laptop is a very bad idea! Rice will get inside the vents, ports, optical drive, etc and do more damage. If rice ends up getting inside the machine and getting wet, you will end up with a sticky, starchy mess that will conduct electricity and cause shorts even after the liquid is dry.
Finally, don't even think about selling this machine to someone without fully disclosing the issue! That would be quite dishonest, possibly even fraudulent depending on the situation. You don't want that kind of trouble. If you want to try to get what you can from the machine, there are companies online that will buy damaged machines for parts. They will pay only based on testing the machine and determining which parts are still functional and salvageable. You may not get as much for the machine, but you also won't have to worry about someone taking legal action against you.

  • It's less than three weeks old and the paint.s already flaking off..

Imagine my embarassment! Here I am telling all my friends how great my new Macbook is---the high quality---and the mat finish "paint" is already flaking off to the left of the mouse pad. My God! It's like a bad used car! I may hate the Windows OS and love this MacBook but I had no idea that it had some sort of sprayed on finish. Now it looks like crap; it looks old, used and cheap.
And it's not even three weeks old!
Hmmm...has this happened to my three year old HP laptop? No. How about my four year old Gateway? No. Maybe my six month old Toshiba? Nope. Only my over priced MacBook.
Now...why am I posting here? Because I can't get the lame on line service request system to accept my request for assistance in any mode.
"Painted on quality"...worse than the blue screen of death.
Since I can't get any support---the phone number doesn't offer a choice for my problem---maybe I should drive an hour to the nearest Apple store---and stand outside showing everyone who comes by what a seventeen day old MacBook looks like.
    Cheesy and disapointing....never again!
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   First Apple....Probably my last

Listen, it really is too bad that this has reportedly happened to your new machine. I am sure that if you take it to a certified apple technician they would send it away for you to be fixed or maybe replaced. I also have dealt with APPLE CARE on the phone and they have been great, in the past. Try to phone the apple care number again and talk to a real person, forget the menu. Having said all that, I still wish that my APPLE was made in USA, even though I would have to pay more, I would.

  • How do I get the coffee stain out of my MacBook Pro screen? Spilled coffee on it e

I spilled coffee on my MacBook Pro this morning .... used the cool setting on my blow dryer for 20 mintues to dry out the keypad ....
Switched it back on in 4 hours .... everything works , except I now have a coffee stain behind my screen .... is there a way to absorb that out
or do I have to buy a new lid for my computer ?

You might have to have a new screen installed.  It's not too expensive ($160) and it's DIY, if you have the right tools and skills.

Having AppleTV remember the password is optional.
Logout of iTunes store, log back in and hopefully next time you come to purchase you'll be prompted for your password but decline the option to remember it.  You might also want to look out of parental controls on the unit.

How can I migrate data from an old MBA to a new one without having access to the screen of the old one? The screen of the old MBA is damaged !

If your "older" MBA has a Thunderbolt port then it isn't that old. See Target Disk Mode about how it's used. Note that without a monitor you won't be able to tell from the screen when it has fully started, and if it succeeded in starting in TDM. If it did, then the hard drive should appear on the Desktop of your new computer. You can then access it to transfer your files. You can even use Migration Assistant or any backup utility to transfer data. Just don't try to transfer system files.

  • Does Your Exchange Calendar Currently Show Events More Than 2 Weeks Old?

Quick question: Can you view any exchange calendar items on your Pre which you have created on your desktop and which are more than two weeks old as you read this post? I can't.  After several hours of support chat and then an "elevation" to phone support, I was told by Palm telephone support that this was a new feature after Webos 1.2.1.
However, two things make me doubt that this is true:
    1) Other Pre users on precentral.net report that they have installed 1.2.1 and they can still see exchange calendar events older than two weeks.
    2) I noticed something really weird: I had deleted my exchange account and was re-adding it in an attempt to solve the problem. The account was syncing but I was watching my screen and it was displaying the monthly view of September, 2009. When the account was almost done syncing, I saw the calendar "flicker" a couple of times and when it did, I could see that there were all my grayed out September dates. Then it said that sync was complete and all events before 9/30/09 disappeared.
SO...I'm thinking that the data is actually in the phone but just not displaying on the calendar! That is really weird and would seem to be a true "bug" to me. For my job, I really need to be able to look back and verify what appointments occurred on what dates in the past. The Iphone and Blackberry users at my office that use the same exchange server can look back months and years at their old events.
If you are reading this could you please reply to let me know if this is a unique issue for me or whether others are having the same experience? I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Very similar issue here.  I am syncing my Pre with Google Mail.  Don't even ASK what a hassle it was to get my Entourage contacts into Gmail and have everything populate the correct fields.  A freakin' NIGHTMARE.
That said, the syncing with synergy seems to work well, with one major drawback.  No calendar entries older than two months.  This renders my calendar virtually useless.  What is the POINT of this stupidity.  I am perfectly capable of deciding if I want to use my pre's storage for older entries.
Unbelievable.  I really hope palm gets it's head in gear and starts supporting its loyal users.  Much more of this, and I will jump to virtually ANY other smart phone.

  • Battery no longer charges to full capacity on 1-week old macbook

Just as the topic says; brand new macbook, one week old, charge stops at 95%. The magsafe does not connect itself very well either... here's the battery information from the system profiler:
    Battery Information:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: 9G01*
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: bq20z451
    Pack Lot Code: 0000
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0201
    Hardware Revision: 0002
    Cell Revision: 0158
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 5553
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 5818
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 1
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -18
    Voltage (mV): 12335
Dunno what the rest of the information means, but clearly it says "fully charged" but "not charging..." I've been keeping it plugged in to not let the charge run dry, but I'm afraid if I somehow don't leave it plugged in I will end up having some week-and-a-half old macbook with zero batteries that won't run unless I plug it in.
    a) Seems to me like a hardware problem, I think someone in my house must've dropped it, the magsafe slot seems a little misaligned. I've just switched over from PC on which I used to do some hardware repairs. Any way for me to take this thing apart and just sort of adjust it myself? Hopefully this is the only problem....
    b) In the case I'm not able to do hardware work like that... is this covered under whatever warranty I have? I mean, it's only a week old... I had hoped the macbook would be at least a LITTLE bit resistant to such small damages... really seems fragile and prone to breaks, judging by the massive amounts of problems with the batteries on these forums.
    Help, anybody?

Seems like a couple of things going on. First, don't worry about "not charging" when your battery is between 95% and 99%. The software actually prevents the battery from charging in that range, so as to minimize the number of discharge-charge cycles that accumulate on your battery. If you unplug for a while (letting it drain to, say, 90%) and then replug, the battery will start charging.
Second, have you done the initial calibration, as your manual instructed you to do in the first few days?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490
Set some time aside and do that if you haven't.
Third, if you feel the MagSafe slot is misaligned, make a Genius Bar appointment and see what they think. If it is out, you may be able to get it repaired there while you wait.
    Finally, this:
really seems fragile and prone to breaks, judging by the massive amounts of problems with the batteries on these forums
Keep in mind that Apple sells, literally, millions of computers every quarter. If 100, 500, even 1000 people show up here with a complaint, that represents a small, small fraction of actual Mac owners.
