  • Switching between multiple libraries

So heres the deal. I have a 30G Video and my father has a 30G Video also. He likes his music the way it is and I do too. I have heard that you can create multiple libraries so you dont have to create different Login names (windows, we both share one computer.) So the thing is, how do you switch between those libraries? I tried just opening the library but all that does is add my library to the current one.
How can I swith between multiple libraries with ease and without messing any of the music in them up.

I downloaded a program that allows me to use it, thanks

  • Can I toggle between multiple analysis on a single dashboard

For 11g, I have created three identical analysis for three different business units. Currently I have each one on a different page within my dashboard.
Ideally, i would like to include them all on one page of my dashboard and have the user be able to toggle between the three by use of a prompt. Can this be done?
    Or
Can I build this as part of one analysis and use view selectors to toggle between the three?

Yes we can do that,By creating Presentation Variables.

  • Firefox 4 Crashes while toggling between multiple open profiles (Firefox has stopped working)

So this problem just started occurring since I upgraded from firefox 3.6.5 to firefox4.
Sometimes I need to have two separate firefox profiles open at the same time. This is accomplished by making a second shortcut to your firefox.exe with the switches -P NewProfileName -no-remote (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P new -no-remote).
With firefox4 the second profile opens fine, but as soon as I select first profile it crashes with the windows error message "Firefox has stopped working." It doesn't send any crash reports to Mozilla, so unfortunately I can't give you any crash IDs (I checked about:crashes and there's no entries for the pertinent dates).
    I'm currently using windows vista.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

It was fixed! You'll need to either wait for Firefox 4.0.1, or if it is really bugging you, get a pre-release (nightly) version today:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-2.0/
Anything 02 April 2011 or later should work in the above directory.
Here was the bug report that led to the fix of the problem, if interested:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639885
Crash occurred on Hulu Pogo and Blip (and other sites), but applying the pre-release April 2nd update fixes it.
    Good luck!

  • Can I toggle between Safari windows?

    Hello,
I know that you can toggle between different applications with command-tab, but can you toggle between multiple windows of the same app? Moving different safari windows around to find the right one is driving me bonkers. I know you can toggle between tabs, but sometimes you just have to have a new window!
    Thanks!

You can go to your system preferences and select "Dashboard & Expose". Then assign one of the corners of the display to "All Windows" so that when you hover your mouse over that corner, all of your open windows are shown and you can click on the one you want to bring forward. But the "Tabs" are a great idea too.

  • What is the difference between switching between Iphoto libraries.....

...using iphoto and iphoto08? I ask because right now I  have iphoto (what ever the latest before 08) i have so many photos i had to add some libraries, which by the way was not easy. Then to switch between libraries i have to close iphoto hold options button and click on iphoto then it tells me to choose a libary. When i try to choose it does not show all of my libraries. I also don't think I can have mulitipal libraries open at the same time. With iphoto 08 can I have more than one open and is it easier to find libraries and switch between them? Please help. I have quit using my iphoto be cause i am so frusterated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As LH recommended the free version of iPhoto Library Manager will let you quickly and easily move between multiple libraries. I use iPLM to manage over 15 libraries and can move between them in a flash like this. Once you add a library to iPLM you can just use iPLM to open that library without having to go thru the Option key method and trying to remember where the library is located. Much faster with iPLM.
If you need to copy photos between libraries and keep the keywords and comments intact you can with the paid version of iPLM.
I do have one library that's 20,000+ photos in size and don't have any problems with it. However, you should have a backup plan for your libraries.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Moving multiple libraries

This is a bit more complicated than just moving a library, let me explain. My 30gb iPod was overflowing, so I bought an 80gb, filled that now, but the wife has my old one which she has nearly filled. That means I've about 100gb on the hard drive. I've bought a 250gb external which I intend to move everything onto.
Now the problem is how to do it. Jill has a separate library from me, as our tastes are totally different, so originally I was thinking of moving both libraries, which is more complicated than the single library suggestions I've seen.
the other option is to add her library to mine, then use playlists to keep the two of them separate.
Either way is going to be problematical. Anyone got any ideas which would be the easiest, and how to do it?
    thanks
    Colin

If you're using the same Windows account (log-in) then you must be toggling between iTunes libraries by booting iTunes while holding the Shift key, right?
Regardless, if you have two separate iTunes libraries and you want to move both libraries to an external drive, it might be cleaner to use the "Consolidate Library" utility in iTunes. This essentially copies your library to a new location, which in your case you will do twice -- once for your library and once for Jill's. This will keep your libraries separate and not co-mingle your music.
Consolidating to a new location is not necessary in the newer versions of iTunes -- you can simply move your iTunes folder to a new location and next time you launch iTunes it will prompt you to "Choose Library" or "Create Library", in which case you'd choose the "iTunes Library.itl" file in the new location. However, in your case it sounds like some songs may be common to both libraries which might mean the same native files are used for both libraries. If that's the case, then Consolidating would be the easiest way to move the libraries without losing songs.
To Consolidate the libraries to a new location:
1- Create backup copies of both library files in case something goes wrong (just the "iTunes Library.itl" file for each library).
2- Create separate folders on your external drive for your libraries.
3- Open the first iTunes library and change the iTunes preferences for the iTunes Music Folder to be in the new location. Also set your preferences to "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" so that future additions to the library go to this location on your external drive.
4- Save the preferences and then select Advanced/Consolidate Library. Let iTunes copy your media to the new location. When complete, check "Get Info" on a few items to make sure that iTunes is showing them on the external drive.
5- Close iTunes and open the other iTunes library. Repeat steps 2 - 4 but using the other location on the external drive.
6- If you're certain that both libraries copied to the external drive, then go back and delete the original libraries on the computer to save disk space.
7- Optional -- get another external drive to back up your other external drive (and other files on your computer).

  • TS2972 I have multiple libraries on the "same computer" with two different desktops, can't I share between two libraries on the same computer?

I'm trying to use home sharing to share content between libraries so some of the combined content in a given library, can be synced to an ipad.   Instad of having mulitple computers, i have multiple libraries on the same computer using two desktops.  How do I share within the same computer?

iTunes must be running for home sharing to work.  There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes.

  • Multiple Libraries on one computer

I want to store more music in iTunes than my iPod has room for (original iPod). I want to use one library for music that I don't want on my iPod and the other for the music I want to sync. I also want to be able to move music back and forth between the them.
How do I store music in multiple libraries on one computer without making separate computer user accounts or using the playlist work around?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, apple-rules

Yes, I am referring to the auto syncing of playlists. Not all of my music is assigned to playlists and I don't want to create them - too many songs.
As I mentioned in my original post:
I want to store more music in iTunes than my iPod has room for (original iPod). I want to use one library for music that I don't want on my iPod and the other for the music I want to sync. I also want to be able to move music back and forth between the them.
I want to be able to store music in iTunes and play that music in iTunes without having them downloaded to my iPod. It would be nice to have a Library in iTunes that can be separate from the iPod stuff.
I think I found a work around (#12). Until I get a better solution I am going to create a master folder to which I will move all my music that I do not want syncing to my iPod. Then, I will do a manual sync and exclude that folder.
    Thanks everyone.

  • How do I go from using a single Apple ID with multiple libraries to using home sharing?

Until now my wife and I have opted to share our iTunes/Apple ID and use multiple libraries to manage our iPhones. This has become increasingly difficult...with issues such as having apps I've downloaded that she doesn't want automatically downloading to her library and even her phone. Now, add in the fact that I want to continue to manage my iTunes library from our PC and allow her to manage hers from her new MacBook Pro and we have good reason to move to home sharing with separate Apple IDs for each of us.
My question is the logistics of doing so. Not only do we need to replicate her existing library on a new Apple ID, but then we need to migrate all the necessary files over to her MacBook Pro. Quite honestly, I don't even know where to begin. Is it possible to associate her existing library with her new Apple ID without having to create her library from scratch? Then is there anyway to migrate only the items in her library over to her MacBook Pro as opposed having to move all of our music & apps? Where do I begin?
    Thanks!

Okay...I misunderstood and thought we needed separate ID's...but I see we actually need to use the same ID which simplifies things in my mind a bit. But still some followups...
    1) What do you mean by restore the library on her computer? Simply open her library file in iTunes?
    2) On our current machine...media is actually split between a couple folders but all under the My Music folder. But there are multiple subfolders (iTunes, Her iPhone, and Amazon MP3). I presume as long as I copy over the entire My Music folder there shouldn't be any access issues when the library is opened on her machine?
    3) Is there any easy way to get rid of all the extra files that she doesn't have in her library? For instance, all my music and apps that she doesn't actually want, is there any easy way of separating those out from the files that are actually linked to in her library? Vice versa for me...once we've go her library set up on her machine, any easy way to purge all the extra files from my PC that aren't actually in my library?
    Thanks!

  • Any improvements in sharing an iPhoto Library between multiple users?

It is possible and Apple Approved to share an iPhoto Library between multiple users, but the Library must be stored on a drive or disk image that ignores permissions:
    http://tech.kateva.org/2008/10/apple-supports-multi-user-iphoto.html
This doesn't work for me. Has Apple changed anything with iLife '09 to make it easier to share a Library? For example, have they changed from the prior Package format?

Alternatives to a trip to the Terminal:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system. So, to beat the system
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Lastly: This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?
    Regards
    TD

  • Multiple Libraries on 1 computer?

    Hi,
I was wondering is it possible to set up multiple libraries on one computer? For example if multiple family members using the same computer but w/ vastly different musical tastes all have iPods is there a way to set iTunes up where I wouldn't have to deal w/ all of my other family member's songs?
