Toggling order between open windows?

It used to be that when I used Command-` to toggle between windows in Safari, they would toggle in the order I opened them. Now that I've upgraded to Snow Leopard Safari the same key command makes Safari toggle randomly through the open windows. It has some idea of how it wants to cycle through them that I don't understand. I can't seem to find a way to change it. The random toggle order doesn't affect any of my other apps. Everything else seems to work the same way it used to except Safari.
Any ideas?
(Please don't tell me to use tabs instead. I don't like tabs. I prefer windows I can toggle through.)

Ok...
Works fine here. Check System Preferences / Keyboard - Keyboard Shortcuts.
Perhaps you have a modified shortcut that's causing the problem.
Or maybe a third party Safari add-on?

  • Full screen mode: How to switch between open windows?

    Hi There,
Is there way to get CMD + ` working in full screen mode?
Other shortcuts like CMD + OPT [ ] to switch between open tabs and CMD + TAB to switch apps seem to work - but without the ability to switch between open windows within the same app, full screen mode is kind of useless.
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
BTW I'm using Yosemite but the forums won't find a Yosemite community (not sure the community search is working properly)
    Cheers

  • Illustrator CC automatically switches between open windows

We have a couple of issues with Illustrator CC on a number of workstations, has anyone else experienced the same?
    1. It randomly switches between open windows; if I am working in one window it will switch to another open window even if that window is put in the dock.
    2. Constantly crashes.

I refuse to go to CC unless dragged to this software subscription model kicking and screaming. But wait if your not happy with the CC software you might consider canceling your subscription. Or it could be a feature that Adobe has implemented that switches to the window you should be working in, not too unlike switching to a software subscription model. Sorry, sometimes I'm not as helpful as I should be. You might consider running the cleaner uninstall and reinstalling the application first.

  • ER changing an order of open windows

It would be very useful to be able to change an order of open windows in the Visual Editor by dragging its tabs. Thanks in advance.

You can't change the order of the photos in the built in photos app. There are other apps that give you much more flexibility than what the photos app allows. You may want to do a search in the App Store for one that suits your needs.
Read this to learn about the photo sorting order on the iPad. The gist of the article is this .... Copied from the article.
By default, photos sort according to the date modified (in ascending order).

  • Moving between open windows and cursor doesn't work

I have several open windows from several programs.
If I click on window 1 in program A, and then click on window 2 in program B, I expect the mac to switch to that window in program B.
But many times lately, in Tiger, that does not happen. I can click on the window, and the cursor does not work. Nor does the menu bar change. I can go back to window 1 and the cursor still does not work.
Only when I go to the dock, and click on the program icon does the window and cursor work properly.
This happens in Tiger. I don't recall having this behavior in any older OS X, OS 9, or other older version either.
This has happened on my iMac G5 and G4 tower. Is this a known problem?

This happens since I started using the Mighty mouse on both computers.

  • Toggle between open word docments

hi everyone - do any of you know what the shortcut is for switching/toggling between open Word documents with a Mac [OS X]?  I'm currently using Microsoft Word 2011.

Thank you in advance for your help!

command ` (the key above the tab) is the standard Mac keyboard shortcut for switching between open windows of the same application.
I don't know if Microsft has followed the convention.

  • SimpleTap/Screen/Option Request/quickly change between open programs

I'd like for there to be an enhancement to SimpleTap where you can easily navigate between open windows.  I found that when you have the X220T in tablet mode with the screen orientation in such a way that the Task Bar/Start Menu is aligned with the side of the tablet that has the Pen its kind of hard to toggle between programs using the taskbar.  This is because with the wireless bar, simpletap button and other icons it leaves room for about 2 program icons.
I was thinking that this should be an option that takes up an entire simpletap screen itself(like the question mark or hash tag).  Perhaps this can be tied into Windows Aero functionality where screen shots are already taken and probably cached somewhere for open windows.

  • Cycle through open windows in Safari, Finder, etc etc.

I have a macbook pro running Leopard since it came out. I can't complain, everything works fine and one of the things I use the most is the Command+< combination to cycle between windows inside a program. I use it mainly on Safari, Photoshop and Pages.
Recently, while resizing some partitions very irresponsibly, an error erased my entire internal HDD. Long story short: I got everything back with third party software, recovered into a new drive, and after installing Leopard again on my macbook pro, I got my files back from the external drive and my OS is running as it was the first time. I could even recover my keychain!
Somethings, small things, have changed since that reinstall, and I can't solve them.
I can't cycle through windows the the Command-< combination anymore.
I've read all posts on this forum that deal with this issues and I've checked and rechecked that list of OS commands, where in fact there is one that says "cycle between open windows etc". It does not work. Not the Command-~, not the command-`, nothing. The later is even listed in my keyboard and mouse preferences (accessible through system preferences) and still I can't get it to actually DO what it describes.
I really want it back the way it was.
Since none of the other posters with this problem posted feedback as to finding a solution, I bring this problem back in hopes it gets more attention this time.
    Thank you!

Strangely, one of the things I had already tried so many times, worked.
Changing the shortcut for "Move to next window in active application" under the tab Keyboard Shortcuts in the panel Keyboard and Mouse in System Preferences.

  • Why is this happening:  when I zoom in one open window, all my other open windows are zoomed too!

This just started happening quite recently and it's really annoying me, but I can't find a preference where I can switch it off.
If I'm working on an illustration and zoom in on a detail, I'll find that any other open windows (within Photoshop CS2) have zoomed with exactly the same amount too, and I have to resize them all. Very time consuming when I'm zapping between open windows. Is this a setting I've inadvertantly clicked or a bug in the software?
    Any tips much appreciated :-)

    'fraid not. Thanks anyway!
Bit of additional info… this problem only seems to occur when I use the zoom tool (both in and out)
I can use cmd + or cmd - with no problem

  • Switching open windows of the same app?

In Tiger I was able to cycle between open windows of the same application with command + minus (the < key located in the left of my spanish ISO keyboard). Now in Leopard this doesn't work, and I have to use Exposé or go to the window menu and click there which window I want.
Has this functionality been remaped to another key, or has it been removed? It was very useful for me.
    Thank you.

Oh man, I was looking for the same, this new setup is impossible to use! what were they thinking? I used to rely so much on that command to switch between windows, I guess I'll have to install a 3rd party application like Witch.
I'm really thinking about going back to tiger, leopard is so full of bugs, I can't access my nas drive (worked fine with tiger) and I found so many glitches, apple has never disappointed me as much as with this release, and I've been following them since 7.1

  • How can I dock icons for every opened windows?

    Hello all,
First time poster here and first time owner of Mac.  I want to know how I can get all opened windows to show as icons on the dock.  On a Windows OS, any opened window will have an icon on the Taskbar.  Does a Mac OS have the same feature?  And no, I don't want to use the old Expose.  I want to be able to get to an opened window that is hidden behind another window by just one click, instead of moving windows around (so that I can get my intended window to be where I can click on it), or instead of using Expose.
One way to get the opened windows to appear on the dock is to miminize it.  I find that to be burdensome, especially if you're openeing a lot of windows quickly.  I want to be able to switch between opened windows in just one click.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You need to either control-click on the application's Dock icon and then regularly click on the item representing that window, or to click and hold the application's icon until the menu appears, and then releasing the button when the cursor is over the menu item.

  • Toggling Between Open Emails -- Keyboard Shortcut

Sometimes I have several emails open at once. The only way I know how to switch between them is to go to the dropdown Window menu. This is a little cumbersome. Is there a keyboard shortcut for toggling between open email windows?
And while I'm at it, is there one for toggling between open Safari windows? I love the Command-TAB way of switching between applications and am looking for something similar.
    Thanks.
    Paul S.

The question is marked as answered, but I don't think it was the answer you wanted. I often have several emails open and want to toggle through them without leaving the keyboard. The Exposé method works, but is not a keyboard shortcut.
Here is how I got it to work:
In System Prefs under Keyboard and Mouse under Keyboard Shortcuts make sure Keyboard Navigation is checked and under that check "Move focus to next window in active application" and then "Command+ tilde" will work!
