Token management for Integrated Smart Card

I'm trying to move a digital identity/digital signature from my laptop keystore to a smart card on my T61p with Vista 64. I've tried the Raaksign Token Management Utility Version 2.3.0.19. When I launch that utlity I run into an issue where the "Transfer ID to token" is greyed out. I know that the utility may or may not be supported on Vista 64. If this doesn't work, how do I transfer a digital ID to a token?
Thanks!

Hi, exclusive4job
I would make sure the the BIOS is up to date for your system, which can be found here. Following that, I would enter the BIOS by pressing Enter at the splash screen and then pressing F1. Once here, navigate to Security ► I/O Port Access. Make sure the Smart Card Reader is set to Enabled here.
Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

  • Looking for a smart card reader compatible with Mac OS X 10.5

    Hi there,
I am looking for a smart card (card with microCPU) reader which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 .
In substance, what I need is a little space to store all my passwords in, due to the fact that I might forget one: I have many to remember!
I have an USB key, but I use it in many computers, even in ones whose security cannot be 100% trusted.. and I want no doubt when talking about safety.
Here's an image of what I want in poor words:

The main issue is that most SC readers are /not/ Mac compatible.
So what brand should I opt for ? What costs should I expect ?
    Thank to everyone who'll help.

    Thank you for your answer.
This might be a solution, I'll take it seriously.
Can this other be a solution too ?

On the manufacturer's page, it's stated that it's compatible with Mac OS X.
41 bucks + shipping + the price of a smart card..

There is a slot on the back of the HD STB that is for a smart card. I'm wondering what this is used for? Thanks!

  • Set up a smart card for user logon to windows server 2012 R2

    Good Evening,
I have Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition (dreamspark license)
Is it possible to successfully set up smart card logon to a server ? I already have the smart card reader, smart card and the certificate (which is also my digital signature) I know how to setup a DC role (as far as I know, the server has to be in a domain
to use smart card logon) I would like to logon using to my PC using a smart card and set the certificate I already have to use as a certificate for logon.
    Kind Regards,
    Tomasz

It would take a few things to do this, and could cause some security issues. In short, I assume the certificate you "already have" came from another environment or a commercial provider. You would need to configure your computer to trust that CA
to be an issuer of smart card authentication certificates. That effectively moves a good portion of your computer security control out of your environment. For many environments that is an unacceptable security risk.
If you dont have an Active Directory running, you will also need to make some accommodations to the standard guides. I dont believe there are any published guides on how to do this with a single server and third-party CAs.
Here are some references for generic smart card authentications. They are not 100% applicable to your need, so some interpretation is going to be needed.

  • Smart Card login for ordinary folk

    Hi,
I used to use the OpenSC project for Smart Card login, but I believe that with changes in OS X 10.8 it's no longer an option.
What affordable solutions are there for genuine Smart Card login for OS X 10.8?  YubiKey doesn't support anything more than entering a static password pre-stored on the device, and when I last tried Rohos it was abysmal.

I'm guessing that since you are not entering a password, the sparse bundle is not being unlocked. I don't know of a way to tie it to the smart card login. It sounds similar to when you put a different password on your default keychain. It won't unlock on login because you are not entering its password.

  • T410 Smart Card problem

received my T410 last week, played around, but noticed that the smart card reader is not working correctly.
In Device Manager, the driver is installed correctly as integrated smart card reader.
But when I insert a smart card, it asked to install driver and failed.
    any advise?
    Thanks.
    Victor

This is a known problem and i have seen the same thing using Omnikey PCMCIA and USB smartcard readers. I would rather blame the provider of the smartcard and not Lenovo or the manufacturer of the smartcard reader.
You can read more about the smartcard minidrivers here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976832
There are also some workarounds to be found in that article. Take a look at the part that describe how to disable smartcard plug and play using group policy and the part that describe how to disable smartcard plug and play for a specific smartcard.

  • Logon with Virtual Smart Card Breaks Run As Administrator

I've been testing the Virtual Smart Card (VSC) capability on a Surface Pro 2 and Dell Latitude E7240.
This may be by design however, I have noticed that if I login using the VSC I am unable to use "Run As Administrator" functionality - for example:
    Command Prompt from Start Screen
    Task Manager
I'm prompted for a username / password or the VSC PIN.
In my environment the Administrative user does not have a VSC, so it is a username/password. When using Run As Administrator I'm therefore always entering a username and password.
Once the credentials are entered the prompt goes away but the application never runs.
If I lock/unlock the session and login using username/password for the non-admin user, instead of the VSC and PIN, I am able to elevate using Run As.
I have noticed that I can use the workaround as specified in this article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2013976
To work around this issue, start the application using the Run as different user right-click context menu option and select the smart card reader of choice.
Click Start, select Programs, and locate the shortcut item in the Programs menu or the application folder for the application you want to run
Hold down the SHIFT key while you right-click the shortcut item, and select Run as different user.
Enter the username, password and the domain name or choose a smart card logon.
Seems a little odd... maybe I am missing something. If anyone can assist that would be great.

  • Compatible Smart Cards

    Hello everyone,
Hopefully you can help me out with the following.
I have windows 7 clients and a windows server 2012 r2 server running PKI.
I recently ordered an omni card reader 3121.
I als bought several smart cards like the CHIP SLE 4428 and the CHIP SLE5542.
Neither of them are supported in Windows.
    Case:
I installed the smartcard reader with the corresponding drivers and I can see that it has been installed succesfully in device manager. However when I enter a smartcard in the card reader it sees the card as a new hardware and want to install drivers for it.
However, it can't find any driver on windows update and the supplier of the card doesn't know anything about drivers.
Does anyone of you know which smartcard is supported with Windows 7 & 8 and has at least a chip for a 2KB cert.
    Goal:
I would like to achieve smartcard logons so users in my domain can logon with a smart card but I just can't seem to find a smartcard to enter in my card reader in which Windows has a native driver.
I would really appreciate all the help in this as this is driving me crazy for weeks now.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Andre

To add to Mark's answer, any smart card based on the smart card Base CSP should work out of the box, as the mini-driver must be downloadable to be certified.
That being said, it all depends on the standards you wish to follow. If things like FIPS 201 or PIV-C are being tossed around your organization, then you need different smart cards (Java based).
This means that smart cards are just part of the purchase. You also need to purchase middleware and the associated CSP/KSP for the smart cards

  • Smart Card Reader

Bought my T410 (2516 CTO) running on Win 7 Pro 32 a year ago, with an integrated  Smart Card Reader which should read several types (¿?) besides the SD that already recognizes perfectly.
Trouble is I can't find anywhere which are those other Memory types. Read here and there, the whole FAQs, searched for it and it seems there isn't any clue regarding this issue.
Can someone please tell me which other Memory Cards does it read?, besides SD I already checked.
I had the hope it could read a XD Card, because it fits naturally, but it doesn't.
(The driver is updated to the latest just in case anyone might comment on this issue).

  • Programming multiple smart cards with multiple smart card readers in a PC causes a PCSCException in a smart card that is in progress

    Hi,
I develop a Java code using smartcardio API to program a smart card. My GUI allows to add at most 5 smart card readers that will wait for card present, then do authentication and program the smart card with an application, then wait for card removal. This is a separate thread running in a loop for each smart card reader added as programmer.
The problem occurs when a certain smart card is in progress and I inserted another smart card to another smart card reader.  Both smart card reader halts and throw sun.security.smartcardio.PCSCException: Unknown error 0x8010002f.
I also observed that every time there is an attempt to insert/remove a smart card in the smart card reader that is connected to the USB port would cause the programming in progress to be interrupted and throw the PCSCException.
These are some exceptions I got during my testing:
    sun.security.smartcardio.PCSCException: Unknown error 0x8010002f
      at sun.security.smartcardio.PCSC.SCardTransmit(Native Method)
      at sun.security.smartcardio.ChannelImpl.doTransmit(ChannelImpl.java:171)
java.lang.Exception: Loader Record Failed: 6E | 0 //Sometimes I got this return code SW1 0x6E SW2 0x00 which means an APDU with an invalid 'CLA' bytes was received. I had check the command before it was sent and it was correct.
Help me understand this issue. I think the CardTerminal.isCardPresent(), CardTerminal.waitForCardPresent(0), and CardTerminal.waitForCardAbsent(0) cause this issue that CardChannel.transmit(apduCommand) is interrupted or the smart card insertion/removal causes the CardChannel.transmit(apduCommand) is interrupted.
    Regards,
    Knivez

    Hi,
when you work with one smartcard reader only usually you address the slot -1 that means "the first found".
But to deal with multiple readers you have to use slots of course since one reader will be slot 0, next reader will be slot 1 and so on...
So a credential object will be identified on a system by a couple
    <slot,alias>
After that, the way to address slots (I mean the syntax) depends on the classes you are using...
    Bye

  • XML Signatures using Smart Cards

    Hello guys,
I know this is not exactly a javacard topic, but I think this forum is where I 'll get the best replies.
We need to perform XML document signatures and verification using smart card stored certificates. The certificates are created using Microsoft Windows 2003 CA and stored in the cards using the cards' CSP.
I have a notion on the libraries that I am going to have to use:
    - sun.security.pkcs11 for the smart card access,
    - java.security.* for cryptography stuff (keystore, public-privateKey etc.),
    - sun.security.cert.X509Certificate for the certificates,
    - org.apache.xml for the xml documents.
Could you please verify that I am heading to the correct direction? I would be glad if you could suggest suitable starting points, similar scenarios etc. If you think that there is a more appropriate forum for my question please tell me so.
Thanks in advance for your help.

yes you are moving towards right directiong actualy PKCS11 is a standard that is used for hardware cryptographic operations so it would be used for smart cards 2. I'll suggest u to use a wrapper and provider API given by IAIK it would help u a lot and will also ease ur work

  • T450s -- Display, NGFF SSD, Smart Card Reader, and m.2 SSD slots

I'm looking to order a T450s and have a few questions about options when configuring the order:
1080 Display -- Does anyone know if the 1080 display (non-touch) is made by LG or AUO or someone else? There was extensive discussion about the T440s, and people got different brands and the AUO was the preferred brand.
16GB m.2 NGFF SSD -- If I remove this option, and want to add a 3rd party compatible NGFF SSD later, can I do this?
3rd m.2 SSD Slot -- The options are None, 3rd m.2 SSD slot, or Smart Card Reader. If I select the Smart Card Reader option, can I later remove the Smart Card Reader and use it as a 3rd m.2 SSD slot? Or, if I select 3rd m.2 SSD slot and later want to use it for a Smart Card Reader, can I buy a Smart Card Reader and plug it into the slot?

Lenovo uses different FHD diplays for the T450s: one by AU Optronics and the other by LG Display.
However, the T450s uses a different LG display than the T440s. The LG screen of the T450s ("
LP140WF3-SPD1") seems to be much better than the LG screen of the T440s.
If you remove the 16GB M.2 SSD option, you can add a M.2 SSD later.
If you have a device with two M.2 slots, you can't use a M.2 SSD and WWAN at the same time.
If you have a device with three M.2 slots, you can only use single-sided M.2 SSDs in the third M.2 slot.
Both the SmartCard reader and the third M.2 slot are attached to the mainboard via a flexible flat cable.
If you choose the SmartCard reader, the warranty might be lost if you want to use the third M.2 slot, because you have to replace some parts that aren't so-called CRUs (consumer replaceable units).
