I have two pieces of advice:
1 - synch up the JDK you use to compile and the one that Tomcat uses to run.
2 - upgrade both your JDK and Tomcat. The current production versions are 6 and 6, respectively. you're far behind.

  • How to see JSP compilation errors - Tomcat 4.1.18- JDK 1.4

    Hi There,
    I'm kind of new to JSP world, so once in while I forget to put a ; or I put a variable name wrong (I usualy use Eclipse to do my coding in JAVA, but the existing plugins for JSP development are still in their early stages, so there's isn't any plugin that indicates errors on JSP before deploying them).
    When I try to see a JSP, if it has an error (compilation-time error), I get this message:
    <--->
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: -1 in the jsp file: null
    Generated servlet error:
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    <--->
    This doesn't help me a lot to fix the problem, I would like to, at least, see from what line the error came from.
    Help anyone?
    Thank You
    Pinho

    This kind of errors often come from syntax error in
    the jsp page.
    Tomcat is not very friendly with this kind of errors.
    A trick is to open the java file under the 'work'
    directory and checkIsn't there any way to show the error on a page, just like a run-time error?
    Maybe changing some log setting?

  • Error connecting to DB with JDK 1.4.2

    Hi,
    I'm trying to connect to a DB with this code:
    Connection con = null; Statement stmt = null; try { con = ds.getConnection(); stmt = con.createStatement(); stmt.execute("select * from table;"); } catch (SQLException e) { logger.error(e); con.close(); }
    but when I execute de oc4j server with a JDK 1.4.2 I get this error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Excepcin de E/S: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    If I execute oc4j server with JDK 1.5.0 I have no problems... obviously I need to execute with JDK 1.5.0... Does anyone know what might be happening?
    Thanks!!

    Well, this specific exception roughly means that the Java code cannot find the database. I.e. the driver is loaded, the URL is semantically correct, but it can't find a database behind the in the URL given IP address / hostname, port number and/or the databasename. On the other side, the database can also be not up and running or not listening, or there is some firewall which blocks the communication.
    That's all what I can say about it. As far now you're the only one who can find and fix the root cause.

    Removed Paths:
        blazeds/trunk/modules/opt/lib/catalina-708.jar

    One possibility is that the java path has different versions of java installed in the same place.  So one part of java runs with version X and then that piece attempts to use a different piece but that piece is version Y.

  • Tomcat 5.0 and JDK 5.0 ?

    Is it possible to build my app with JDK 5.0 and deploy to Tomcat 5.0? (Right now Tomcat errors because the class file version is 49 rather than 1.4's 48.) Thanks.

    You have both 1.4 and 1.5 installed on your machine?
    Remember Tomcat is a java process as well.
    It is probably running using under 1.4.
    Check
    1 - your JAVA_HOME variable
    2 - the startup file for tomcat - which version of java does it invoke?

    And, I can run JAVA.EXE from any directory on command prompt.
    With JAVA 2 SDK (ver 1.3 Beta) instead of JDK 1.1.8 I'm getting a different Error message as follows:

    Please make sure that JDK 1.1.4 (or greater) is installed in your machine and CLASSPATH is set properly. JAVA.EXE must be in the PATH.

    the PATH and CLASSPATH were set accordingly, as with JDK1.1.8, and there was no classes.zip in classpath
    also the class file or the jar file looks weird or wrapped in the error message : 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Another interesting thing I noticed is if I run oldes.exe from Installation CD, the Oracle Lite Designer runs fine, and without error, I'm able to modify tables in the database of my laptop also.
    Could someone shade some light on what am I doing wrong here ?
    Thanks for help in advance .

  • Issue while installing ODI 11.1.1.6 with JDK 7u

    Hi All,
    I am working on installing ODI on windows 64 bit. I downloaded lastest web logic server files, ODI files and JDK files from oracle site..
    I installed Web Logice server with no errors but when I tried to install ODI by running the setup.exe it was giving me an error:
    "Error: Provide the JDK/JRE Location while launching the installer. Invoke the sertup.exe with -jreLoc <JDK/JRE Location absolute path>Parameter(s)".
    So, I looked in to JDK file and noticed that it is an old file and need to be updated so I installed "jdk-7uf-windows-i586.exe". After installing when I try to setup ODI, I am still getting the same error..
    It is asking me to provide the location but I am not srue where to provide the location.. I know the location for JDK i.e. C:\Program files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04 but I am not sure where to provide this location for ODI..
    Thanks a lot!

    2 things must be noticed:
    First: ODI 11g is not supported by JDK 7, I always use the JDK1.6.0_27 and works fine. When you try to open the ODI Studio, this message appears, telling that ODI is supported only with JDK 6 versions, so don't try to use JDK 7.
    Second: I always install the JDK in a path without spaces, like "C:\JDK1.6.0_27\" and the excatly same thing to odi install files. So I call via Command Prompt:
    C:\ODI_INSTALL\Disk1\setup.exe -jreLoc C:\JDK1.6.0_27\
    I did over 20 windows installations using these settings, it'll work perfectly.
    Regards.

It is possible to specify an alternative compiler by adding a <java-compiler> element to the server.xml file, and this might provide a workaround for the "classes not in packages" issue, but no other compilers are certified or supported by Oracle for use with OC4J."

  • Java 6u24 won't launch signed JNLP app with classes compiled with JDK 1.4.2

    Anyone else having a problem launching a JNLP app compiled with Java 1.4 using Java 6u24 on the client? Anyone have a Java 1.4-compiled app that does launch with Java 6u24?
    I am, and I have isolated the problem to some change in 6u24's java web start launching logic. The splash screen appears and then javaws just quits with no error. Trace shows it is not getting past checking of the first .jar. My JNLP app, fully signed with CA-issued certificate, when compiled with Java 1.4.2 will not launch on JRE 6u24 (or 6u25-b03). The same exact app launches perfectly fine when it is compiled with JDK 1.5 or 1.6. It is not a signing problem, though it is related to certificate checking logic or a concurrency flaw in javaws' AppPolicy and TrustDecider classes. It is not a host server or network problem as those have been varied with same results. It is not a specific .jar problem as I have varied what is the first .jar with same results. I have eliminated all other variables to find the only difference is what Java version the app is compiled with. Well, all but one other variable - I have not tried with apps other than mine.
    My app is compiled with JDK 1.4.2 so I can still support older platforms. That requirement is going away soon but this is still a regression from 6u23 that is causing a big problem for at least this developer.

    You can try to use the version of the jarsigner JDK 1.5 or later.
    Has changed the management of files in META-INF.
    So compile with 1.4 but sign with 1.5 or later

  • Is there service pack available for weblogic 5.1 to work with JDK 1.4 for NT Environment

    Is there service pack available for weblogic 5.1 to work with JDK 1.4 for NT Environment

    Hi.
    This is definitely not supported, and I don't know that any work is scheduled in the future
    to support this JDK on WLS 5.1.
    Having said that, I was able to start WLS 5.1sp12 with JDK 1.4 with no errors. I didn't
    exercise any features, however.

  • JDeveloper 3.2.3 with jdk 1.4.0-beta2

    Hi there,
    had an application developed with Jdev3.2.3 and jdk 1.3.1-r2. Was working well, accept a small problem with minimize and maixmize items. Dropped the problem with sun and they said it would be solved with jdk 1.4.0-beta2.
    Tried to define this within Jdev, but get the next error when rebuilding the code:
    Error: (0) initialization error: class Error const *: class file has wrong version 48.0, should be 45.3 or 46.0.
    If I build the code with javac from jdk 1.4.0 it builds correctly and runs ok.
    anyone know if i can solve this ???

    I ran into a similiar problem with JBuilder 5. The answers on their boards indicate the problem traces to the change Sun made with versioniong class files in JDK1.4.
    Someone offers a patch tool for JBuilder, but Borland does not support it. It will be interesting to see what Oracle does with this problem.

    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class SessionCount implements HttpSessionListener
         private static int numberOfSessions = 0;
         public void sessionCreated (HttpSessionEvent evt)
              numberOfSessions++;
         public void sessionDestroyed (HttpSessionEvent evt)
              numberOfSessions--;
              return numberOfSessions;
    Error as follows
    C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\g-megastore\src>javac SessionCount.java
    SessionCount.java:3: package javax.servlet.http does not exist
    import javax.servlet.http.*;

    SessionCount.java:5: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class HttpSessionListener
    location: class Helpdesk.SessionCount
    public class SessionCount implements HttpSessionListener

    SessionCount.java:9: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class HttpSessionEvent
    location: class Helpdesk.SessionCount

    return numberOfSessions;
    ^
    5 errors
    My classpath is set as:
    set classpath=C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\g-megastore\WEB-INF\classes
    both servlet.jar and j2ee.jar are in this \classes folder.
    What went wrong?

    help appreciated
    thanks

    Hi,
    i know that you can re- point the Tomcat WAS to a different JDK but i am not aware that you can point BOE to a different one.
    I would recommend you open a OSS Message with the SAP support to check if it is possible and supported.
