Tomcat connection pooling configuration
I have configured the datasource with connection pool as per
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
All the required jar fles are in $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib.
When I run my app,I am getting the following error even though commons-pool.jar file is there which contains GenericObjectPool.class file
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.apache.commons.pool.impl.GenericObjectPool: method <init>()V not found
at org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource.createDataSource(BasicDataSource.java:652)
at org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource.getConnection(BasicDataSource.java:403)
Did anyone run into similar issue?
Thanks
I am running into this same issue at the moment.
If you found the solution, it would be much appreciated if you could give me some insight into this problem.
Thanks.

I am using Tomcat connection pooling (DBCP) to get the connection from the Database
It really works great with Oracle, MySQL, Sybase and as well as DB2.
Recently I tried to integrate apache with tomcat to improve the performance.
But now the problem is I am unable to load the JDBC Driver its giving me an error message as Cannot load JDBC driver class ?null?
@ org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource.createDataSource ..
Interseting thing is I am able to get connection through datasource(DBCP) if I use the following URL
http://localhost:8080/application _name/Hello.jsp
But I get the error message when I try to get connection through datasource(DBCP)
as Cannot load JDBC driver class ?null? for this URL
http://localhost/application_name/Hello.jsp
Both the URL use same server.xml, httpd.conf,servlet class and jsp pages
Gurus can you please help me to understand why my application is unable to get the connection when I use this URL http://localhost/application_name/Hello.jsp
But not with other one
Please........... Some one help me
Thanks in Advance
MariaThanks for your reply
Yes I am doing context lookup like this
Context ctx = (Context) new InitialContext().lookup("java:comp/env");
conn = ((DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/test")).getConnection();
This works with Tomcat but I am unable to make it work after
integrating tomcat with apache
Thanks for your help

MariaHow did you make Tomcat connection pooling(DBCP) working with Oracle?
I refereced to the "JNDI Datasource HOW-TO" in Jakarta Tomcat. I am using Tomcat 4.18. I can get DataSource object, but when to get connection from dataSource, not any response, It seems freezing.
I appreciate any reply.

How to change the connection pool configuration on OC4J?
Hi everybody,
I am developing an application with JDeveloper which is running on an OC4J standalone server, we have 2 enviroments, the develop server and the server of the client, and the data base connection configurations are differents.
The problem is that if we try to deploy the application (we have deploy on the develop server) on the client server and try to change the connection pool configuration the application cannot connect to the data base, we need to re-build the project with the client connection pool configuration.
We tried to change the configuration on the enterprise manager of the OC4J, on "JDBC Resources" panel, and the test the connection is ok, but when try to access to the application we get an Exception. After that we try to do that changing the parameters from the datasources.xml file on the application, but the result is the same.
How can we change the DataBase configuration without re-build the project?
Thanks very much
TonyMeaning you have created just the empty data-sources.xml and not configured any Connection Pool and DataSource in JDev?
In Oracle AS 10.1.3 you have two ways to do this:
1. Use JDev and configure the data-sources.xml (Context Menu -> Properties)
2. In Oracle AS: Select application -> Administration -> Services -> JDBC Resources -> Create Pool and Create DataSource

Low Application Performance due to AM connection pooling configuration
Hi All,
My application performance is too slow due to default App module connection pooling parameters. I started exploring on these parameters in oracle documentation and was stopped due to some doubts.
The below link is actually the one from which I'm doing the configuration.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/b31974/bcampool.htm
1. I want to know what value should be in Weblogic server --> Maximum capacity (I think they confused me a little saying it can be equal to AM's Maximum Pool Size, Maximum Available Size, Minimum Available Size).
2. Then the AM's Initial pool size should be equal to the weblogic's Initial Capacity. I have 10 AM, if I'm setting 100 in each AM, then the corresponding weblogic's initial capacity should be equal to 100 or 100 X 10. Please clarify this.
Thanks.You post give no information which connects the pooling parameter to 'low' performance. Have you checked where all the time is consumed? Which method or part of the application consumes the most time. Before you can't answer these questions you can't link the problem to am pooling.

URGENT: Tomcat, Connection Pool - Issue with web.xml & server.xml
Folks,
I am trying to connect to a MS SQL database using Tomcat/JSP but having issues. The code that I am using is as follows:
Context ic = new InitialContext();
DataSource ds = (DataSource) ic.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/test");
Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
I have added the following code to my Server.xml:
<Resource name="jdbc/test" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource"
maxActive="100" maxIdle="30" maxWait="10000"
username="DB_AW_DATA" password="tester" driverClassName="com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"
url="jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.1\\Newcastle"/>
And the complete web.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<!DOCTYPE web-app (View Source for full doctype...)>
- <web-app>
- <resource-ref>
<description>Resource reference to java.sql.Connection factory defined in server.xml</description>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/test</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>
</web-app>
The error message that I am getting is as follows:
java.sql.SQLException: Cannot load JDBC driver class 'null'
What confuses me is that I have placed the following files in Tomcat\common\lib...
mssqlserver.jar
msbase.jar
msutil.jar
I think this is purely an issue with how I configured server.xml and web.xml
In the Tomcat documentation it states to put the code in the server.xml - but nested inside the Context element. This is something that I have not done as I am clear what the Context should be..
Can someone assist...
<Context path="" docBase="ROOT" debug="0"> ???
what should be the path and the docBase.
I have deployed the following application:
http://localhost:8080/SCWAPP/index.jsp
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL SUPPORRTyou should put the code you typed in server.xml into context.xml
in the META-INF folder and this will fix your problem.
the latest tomcat docs detail what to do. -
Unable to start the Universal Connection Pool error
Hi,
I am trying to deploy two instances of one and the same web application on Tomcat 6. I have application test.war, I have copied and renamed it to test2.war and moved both wars in Tomcat' webapps folder. One of those (which Tomcat decides to start first) correctly gets connection from PoolDataSourceFactory.getPoolDataSource() and works fine, but the second throws this exception while trying to get database connection.
Please help,
Thanks

SOA 11.1.1.3.0 - Connection Pool has been suspended during weak load
Hi,
I have a SCA with different BPEL, all uses several db adapters.
Each db adapter has retry count set to 1.
Each bpel has the following properties:
<property name="bpel.config.transaction" many="false">required</property>
<property name="bpel.config.inMemoryOptimization">true</property>
<property name="bpel.config.completionPersistPolicy">off</property>When I do a simple load testing (with 10 concurrent threads invoking the same SCA webservice) my connection pool is suspended.

Caused by: oracle.fabric.common.FabricInvocationException: faultName: {{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}remoteFault}I configured it using the Oracle User Guide For Technology Adapters, paragraph 2.21, but I still have the issue.
Please can someone help me out?Also, the strange thing is that if I monitor the Datasource (that has a 100 conn. capacity) I see that it is not overloaded:

Multiple DataSource using single Connection Pool
Previously using Weblogic 6.1 we had a configuration where multiple Datasources used a single connection pool. Now that we are in the process of upgrading to Weblogic 9.1, we are attempting to recreate the same configuration.
The Weblogic 9.1 upgrade wizard appears to have created the relevent datasource & connection pool configuration files but when attempting to use these I am receiving the following errors:

Configuring the Datasources through the Admin Console creates a single Datasource configuration file that contains its relevent connection pool configuration, but the Weblogic Upgrade wizard creates a Datasource config file and a separate connection pool config file. What would I need to do to use the config files generated by the Weblogic Upgrade wizard?
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Simplified JDBC Resource Configuration
In WebLogic Server 9.0, the number of JDBC resource types was reduced to simplify JDBC configuration and to reduce the likelihood
of configuration errors. Instead of configuring a JDBC connection pool and then configuring a data source or tx data source to
point to the connection pool and bind to the JNDI tree, you configure a data source that encompasses a connection pool.
Note: Because of the new configuration design, you can no longer have multiple data sources that point to a single connection
pool. Instead, you can create additional data sources, each with its own pool of connections, or you can bind a single data source
to the JNDI tree with multiple names. See Binding a Data Source to the JNDI Tree with Multiple Names for more information.

The Weblogic 9.1 upgrade wizard appears to have created the relevent datasource & connection pool
configuration files but when attempting to use these I am receiving the following errors:

Freeing connections in a connection pool
I am using WLS8.1.2 on IA64 with jrockit 8.1.2.
I have created a connection pool using Microsoft's type 4 non-xa jdbc driver fpr
SQLServer2000.
My application performs a number of db operations, then using the retrieved information,
makes a call to a mainframe and finally makes an insert into the SQLServer. As
the mainframe call takes a long time, 5-6s and I have many (~1,000) concurrent
clients, I explicitly close the db connection prior to the call and then re-open
it for the final insert operation.
As the initial sql requests take less than 1s, I expected that this approach would
significantly reduce the number of open connections in the pool, since whilst
one thread is waiting for 5 seconds, others will be able to use the connection.
However, from the connection pool monitor, I see that closing the db connection
has no effect. I have as many open connections as I have threads in the execute
queue.
For the connection pool configuration I have enabled shrinking and the "Remove
Infected Connections Enabled" box is not "ticked".
Is there anything else that I should do that will return unused connections back
to the pool?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Let me see your code. Attached below, with appliction-specific, non-jdbc code removed.Ok. The code looks safe. I assume the DataSource you're accessing is not a
weblogic transactional DataSource, correct? For instance, if you run this
code, and before setting autoCommit(false), could you call getAutoCommit()
and verify that it returns true?
The reason I ask, is that you are controlling a JDBC transaction on your
own, just as if you got a plain JDBC connection directly from the DBMS
driver. However, if you are getting a connection from a transaction-aware
DataSource, and if this thread is running in the context of a UserTransaction,
such as in or under a a TX_REQUIRED EJB, then the connection will already be
autoCommit(false) when you get it, and *when you close or commit the connection
the connection will cheerfully ignore you until the transaction coordinator
tells the connection that the tx is really done. If this is the case, then
you would not be releasing the connection as you thought half-way along
Joe
PS: The only suggestion I would have for the code, is that whenever you close
a JDBC object, you set it to null. And at the end, in the finally, do this:
// in separate try blocks so a failure in one won't make us skip the next
if (rs != null) try {rs.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}
if (ps != null) try {ps.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}
if (con != null) try {con.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}

It should be obtaining, using and closing
a pool connection all within one user invoke. The connection object
should be a method-level variable so every thread gets it's own.That's what I've done.
The server has a fixed number of execute threads, so however many
users are logged in, the server will only be processing that fixed
number of users at any instant. When one thread is done with a user,
it closes it's pool connection making it available for the next user
this thread works for.I understand that. But in my application each thread creates a jdbc connection,
executes 500ms worth of sql queries, explicitely closes the jdbc connection and
then effectively sleeps for 5 or 6 seconds waiting for the mainframe. When the
mainframe replies, it re-opens the jdbc connection, performs another 500ms of
jdbc updates and then exits.
My point is that during the 5s waiting for the mainframe, with the jdbc connection
closed, approx. 5 other threads could use the same connection to perform their
operations. I would therefore expect that the number of open connections in the
connection pool to be a little more than one fifth of the number of active threads
in execute queue. But what I observe is that the number of open connection pool
connection follows one-for-one the number of active threads.
Here's the code:

Problem in using connection pool in netbeans
Hi,
I am using Net Beans and Sun java application server and Derby as database.
I have created data connnection and also configure JDBC resources (ie. DataResource and connectionPool).
Now i want to use this connection pool in my class, I have create one DataConnection class and put this code
private javax.sql.DataSource getMyDatabase () throws javax.naming.NamingException {
javax.naming.Context c = new javax.naming.InitialContext();
return (javax.sql.DataSource) c.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/myDatabase");
}I got this code by right click and selecting Enterprise Resources->Use Data, But while running i got the exception
javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
Plz tell me How can we overcome this exception and is there any other way do use connection pool.
Thanks.Thanks bamkin-ov-lesta,
DbConnectionBroker is good for servlet or other java application. If i use this class, it is like i am writing code for connection pool. I am using NetBeans and sun java application server which provide its default connection pool configuration and i want to use that only.
And I am not getting which class name to be set in environment variable under what name in the following exception.
javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Need to specify class name in environment or system property, or as an applet parameter, or in an application resource file: java.naming.factory.initial
Help me plz. -
Connection pool replacement in NW
hi,
does anyone know if the connection pools that could be created in EP6SP2 via System Configuration->Knowledge Management->Content Management->Utilities->Connection Pool have been replaced in NW? I've noticed they are no longer available, so does anyone know if it is possible to create such a connection pool in NW and how?
Does anyone know where the connection pool configurations are available in the system (for NW)? (for example where is dbcon_wcmdb_cm connection pool configuration file located)
Thank you,
adinaHi Adina,
that's not going to work on NetWeaver. Please note that the CMRepositoryManager has been rewritten to use OpenSQL statements to retrieve data from the database. These are "generic" statements that work on any database supported by NetWeaver. What happens at runtime is that the sql statement that the application (e.g. KMC) passes on to the OpenSQL implementation which runs the statement through a statement parser and based on information taken from the java dictionary it compiles a new sql statement that the underlying native database accepts. On the way back from the database to the application the inverse operations take place, e.g. native result sets are turned into OpenSQL result sets.
Now, in 6.40 there is a restriction in the OpenSQL implementation of the j2ee engine that allows to talk OpenSQL to only one database. So even if you would configure a different dbpool pointing to your own database then that's not supported by OpenSQL, meaning that pool would only work with native SQL.
And that's the point where the real problem comes in: the sql statements used in the 6.40 version of the CMRepMgr won't be understood by the any native database.
So I'm very sorry to disappoint you but it won't work this way. -
hi,
i am trying to achieve connection pooling in Tomcat , can anybody help what is the process ? which one is better either weblogic or tomcat?This http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html is the official document for Tomcat Connection Pooling.
The instructions for Connection Pooling are different for different versions of Tomcat, so pick the appropriate version and read the document for your version of Tomcat.
