Tomcat warning - [ComponentRule]{faces-config/component}

Hi,
then i start the Tomcat (with my JSF app) in console i see the WARNING
23.08.2007 15:33:24 com.sun.faces.config.rules.ComponentRule end
WARNUNG: [ComponentRule]{faces-config/component} Merge(javax.faces.ViewRoot)
what is that? How to avoid it? Make i something wrong?

It's letting you know that some other parsed faces-config.xml is providing an
override to the default component associated with the ViewRoot.
I believe add-ons like shale do this.

  • Warnings in faces-config.xml

    I've had to reinstall JDeveloper in the middle of trying to follow the 'Oracle Application Development Framework Tutorial', which shouldn't be a problem, since I just recreated the connection to my database and unzipped the appropriate file (starterApplications/SRDemo-EndOfChapter6.zip). However, there are a number of oddities, so maybe I haven't quite done it the right way:
    1. When I open the faces-config.xml, I see 19 warnings in 'Structure' - they are all about files 'not found under root .../public_html' - I suspect this may be the explanation for the next problem:
    2. The Diagram window is blank; can I do some magic to get it to appear or is this something I will have to recreate manually? Or is there something that I haven't installed (as suggested by the first problem)?

  • Netbeans WVP/Tomcat, "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null"

    With Netbeans 5.5 I suddenly (worked yesterday) get an error when
    starting Tomcat 5.5.17:
    org.apache.commons.digester.Digester - Parse Error at line 9 column 116: Document root element "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null".
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Document root element "faces-config", must match DOCTYPE root "null".
    at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.createSAXParseException(ErrorHandlerWrapper.java:236)
    The XML parser is complaining about a corrupt schema reference in faces-config.xml inside of web-ui.jar.
    First attempt at a solution: uninstalled WVP and re-installed, hoping for a jar with a valid xml file--no such luck, it's corrupt on install.
    Worst, it looks like JSF 1.2 stuff that's being called--my project is imported from JSC 2 and, presumably, should be using JSF 1.1.
    Second attempt at a solution: download latest JSF1.1 files and copy into netbeans module/ext and project's WEB-INF/lib.
    No luck, same error.

    The following piece of code should work:

  • Component and renderer can't share the same name in face-config.xml

    Hi All,
    I've noticed that a component and a renderer can't share the same name in <face-config.xml>.
    For instance,
    <component>
    <component-type>tree</component-type>
    <component-class>com.xxx.tree.component.Tree</component-class>
    </component>
    <render-kit>
    <renderer>
    <renderer-type>tree</renderer-type>
    <renderer-class>com.xxx.tree.renderer.Tree</renderer-class>
    </renderer>
    </render-kit>
    generates a cryptic error message.
    It's not a big deal but would be nice to support it.
    The workaround of course is to use a different name for the component and renderer (tree and treeRenderer for instance)
    Stephane

    i dont know why it doesn't work for you. It works for me alright. Can u elaborate on what error messages you are getting? It maybe some other problem.

    The entity "input-props" was referenced, but not declaredCan someone explain me what is the cause of this ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sounds like you're missing definitions like:
    <!ELEMENT base-component-type (#PCDATA)>
    <!ENTITY input-props SYSTEM "input-props.xml">
    (one for each of the references)
    These definitions need to be nested in the DOCTYPE
    declaration like so:
    <!DOCTYPE faces-config PUBLIC
    "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JavaServer Faces Config 1.1//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-facesconfig_1_1.dtd" [
    (definitions)

    I found the "solution" myself.
    You can't actually rfer to adf-faces-config.xml from web-inf.
    I got this info from some website, but that was plain wrong.
    The ad-faces-config.xml location is hardcoded (WEB-INF/ad-faces-config.xml).

  • Problem w.r.t. JSF 2.0 with faces-config.xml

    Hi All,
    I am trying to evaluate the features of JSF2.0.
    For that, I have created a very simple application with "JSF 2.0.2".
    There is a page that displays a composite component and some other form related components (inputtext, commandbutton).
    When I deploy my application without any faces-config.xml file, everything renders perfectly fine.
    When I deploy the app with faces-config.xml (even an empty one without any configuration), none of the components get rendered.
    Only the html elements get displayed.
    I need to define some navigation-rules in my config file. I am not sure how to go further from here.
    The app server I am using for deploying my app is GlassFish(v3).
    Any help or pointers towards solving my problem are highly appreciated.
    You can find the xhtml file, etc of my project below.
    Thank you,
    With best regards,
    Praveen

  • JSF Converter how to use property in faces-config

    I have made an Converter for my listbox, and it is working.
    Now I want to use a property to change the behavior of the converter.
    My faces-config looks like this:
    <!-- Converters -->
    <converter>
    <converter-for class>model.PacemakerBranche</converter-for-class>
         <converter-class>cconverter.BrancheConverter</converter-class>
         <property>
              <property-name>test</property-name>
              <property-class>java.lang.String</property-class>
              <default-value>12345</default-value>
         </property>
    </converter>
    I try to set the test property to 12345.
    The setTest(String test) is not set.
    What am I doing wrong??
    My converter looks like this:
    public class BrancheConverter implements Converter {
    private String test;
    public String getTest() {
    System.out.println("getTest " + test);
    return test;
    public void setTest(String test) {
    System.out.println("setTest " + test);
    this.test = test;
    public Object getAsObject(FacesContext ctx, UIComponent component,
    String value) {
    return getMgr(ctx).getObject(model.PacemakerBranche.class, new Long(value));
    public String getAsString(FacesContext ctx, UIComponent component,
    Object object) {
    return ((BaseObject) object).getId().toString();
    private Manager getMgr(FacesContext ctx) throws HibernateException {
    return (Manager) FacesContextUtils.getWebApplicationContext(ctx).getBean("manager");
    }

    You can't use f:converter tag for setting properties.
    There are two ways you can use:
    (1) use f:attribute tag
    ex.<h:inputText value="#{...}"/>
      <f:converter converterId="...."/>
      <f:attribute name="test" value="#{...}"/>
    </h:inputText>Note that you should get the value of the attribute from the UIInput component, something like:comp.getAttributes.get("test");(2) develop a custom converter tag.

  • Sun-faces-config.xml question

    Hello all,
    maybe this question is a bit silly, but im a newbie to this. Im developing a complib file with a custom component; and I want to add custom properties to it. As far as Ive done, im able to add custom string properties via the "StringPropertyEditor"
    All this is done in the sun-faces-config.xml file, and when I declare a property which can be set via a combo-box, this is, with a "SelectOneDomainEditor" in the sun-faces-config.xml, I dont know how to populate this combo with data to be shown so it can be selected in the properties window.
    Id be truly grateful to anyone who can help me out, maybe a short sample or fraction of a sun-faces-config would be fine.
    Thanks everyone in advance, and sorry for the long read,
    MANUEL ANSN.

  • 2 render-kit in  my faces-config.xml

    I'd like to have 2 renderkit in my faces-config.xml. I set render-kit-id with "HTML_BASIC" for the first one and
    "XHTMLMP" for the 2nd. Then i got an exception when i launch tomcat :
    javax.faces.FacesException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: No renderKitClass for renderKit XHTMLMP
         at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener.contextInitialized(ConfigureListener.java:336)
    Why ? I use jsf in a portlet webapp and want to select one of these 2 renderers in my portlet constructor.

    Can you please post your faces-config.xml?
    Thanks.

  • What is the rule for adding application elements to faces-config.xml

    I have posed this question before, but was unable to get an answer so here goes again.
    What is the rule for adding more than one application element to the faces-config.xml?
    The schema documents that 1-n are possible, but why and when should I do this?
    --W

    sorry if you don't login in tomcat administration before. you must enter login and password of a manager user on tomcat .
    The user is the one you give when installing tomcat.
    If you have forgotten it : see it to: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\conf\tomcat_users.xml
    and choose one whop have role='manager'

  • Load order faces-config.xml

    I've got the following code:
    User.java
         public User() {
              userData = ( UserData ) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get("userData");
         }EMailCenter.java
    public EMailCenter() {
              userData = ( UserData ) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get("userData");
              The problem: userData is accessed correctly in User.java and in EMailCenter I get an invalid object. My faces-config.xml looks like this:
    <faces-config>
         <managed-bean>
              <managed-bean-name>user</managed-bean-name>
              <managed-bean-class>jsf.User</managed-bean-class>
              <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
         </managed-bean>
         <managed-bean>
              <managed-bean-name>userData</managed-bean-name>
              <managed-bean-class>jsf.UserData</managed-bean-class>
              <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
         </managed-bean>
         <managed-bean>
              <managed-bean-name>emailcenter</managed-bean-name>
              <managed-bean-class>jsf.EMailCenter</managed-bean-class>
              <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
         </managed-bean>
            ...I'm not shure but I think that EMailCenter is loaded before the userData object is created when starting the web application. So is it possible to tell Tomcat in which order it should create the objects? Or is it another problem?

    You can also consider to inject the userData bean as managed property of the other beans.

  • Sun-faces-config.xml

    Hi - Is there a way to distribute component metadata in sun-faces-config.xml over more than one file?
    I have multiple components and all the metadata combined is resulting in a HUGE file and its getting quite tedious to modify it.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA.
