Tone control button in Library module

The tone control buttons in the library module--does anyone use them?  I find them pretty worthless.  If I had sliders, however, I'd really like to do some quick adjustments.  So, if you could please make these controls more useful that would be great.  Thanks.

You mean the Quick Develop? Yes, they are very useful particularly when doing rough edits of images whose base tone don't match. You can use QD in Library as well as Survey mode to get images closer together. Also note that unlike Develop, QD has the ability to do relative adjustments to the images. So, regardless of the settings, you can lighten/darken images at the same time. You can also adjust not only raw, but JPEGs and TIFFs at the same time. BTW, if you hover over the controls, the tool tips tell what the adjustment will be per click. Very useful if you know how to use it.

    You've merely inadvertently hidden it.
Hiding/unhiding panels and modules is a little known feature of Lightroom which seems to put the fear of God into unsuspecting newbies who are not aware of the feature.
Right-click (CTRL Click on Mac) on the Module names and restore the check mark to Library.

  • Tonal change between develop and library module

After having applied some changes in the develop module when I switch back to the library module I am experiencing a sever foreground tonal change? I can add that the foreground in this particular photo had a grad filter applied. The tone shifts from a cool blue to a purple? Shooting with a nikon d5100 with ADL turned off as per other similar problems brought up in this forum. Which by the way I still experience but have learned to live with is that after import of RAW picture looks good for about a second then exposure changes.

Are you using a calibrated/profiled monitor?  In Develop module, LR displays in ProPhoto colour space, in Library module it's Adobe RGB.  If the monitor doesn't have a proper profile there could be differences in view between Develop and Library.  However I would have thought LR would default to assuming monitors behave like sRGB if there's no profile (or no colour space info in the profile).

The usual cause for that is that Adobe can't read Nikon proprietary metadata such as Picture control settings.  If you shoot with the Nikon Picture Control setting (Standard, Portrait or whatever) at default settings, and if you use the corresponding profile in Lightroom's "Camera Calibration" panel (Camera Standard, Camera Portrait etc) then the appearance should be very close to the out-of-camera jpeg preview appearance.

  • Different view to develop and library module

Hello everyone, I have a big problem during my workflow, or when working images from the development at the end of the work as the images are like me and very sharp. But when I see in the library module are not sharp and the blacks are very mordibi. Below I post the link to see for yourself.
    MODULE DEVELOPMENT:
    MODULE LIBRARY:
The problem is that when I export my image is identical to the form LIBRARY and not that beautiful clear form DEVELOPMENT. So I find myself not export images with crisp blacks and dishes.
I already tried to delete the cache, but does not change anything, and I use 1:1 previews, you have no idea how to fix my problem?

Ah, now I see the rightside of that screenshot, with, as you say, sharpening 150 and NR 0. That's a combo it would never even occur to me to use, not in a hundred years...
Anyway, I tried this with an ISO 1250 shot, but couldn't see any differences anywhere. But maybe you need to go higher.
I've learned to never take anything for granted when reviewing LR forum posts. An ISO 1250 shot is probably too low with most DSLR cameras to see this issue. On my 5D MKII I could really only see the "lightening" between Develop and Library views with ISO 6400 raw images. It may also show up at lower ISO settings with images that are heavily underexposed (i.e. LR Exposure +1 and greater), and with smaller sensor cameras (1.6 crop, P&S).
Gianlu24, keep in mind that Adobe increased the Sharpening amount from '100' in LR3 to '150' in LR4 when using a high 'Masking' setting. For most normal images and Masking settings you should use a Sharpening amount below '100.' There are two basic types–Capture and Output sharpening, each adjusted using separate controls. In addition you can apply both Global and Local Capture Sharpening in LR. These three articles by Laura Shoe may be helpful:

  • Library Module - Quick Develop Panel

    Hi,
I was really hoping that the Quick Develop panel in the Library Module which I sometimes use if there are minor touchups needed to a photo would have been redesigned to more closely resemble and work like the Basic panel in the Develop Module.  Certainly sliders instead of those arrow buttons would be a very useful change.
I'm pretty sure that this has been a popular enhancement request.  Does anyone know why this wans't changed?

  • Show Clipping while in Library Module

I am shooting tethered and wondered if there is a way to view the clipping while in the Library Module Loupe? I noticed that it only seems to work in the Develop Module but if i try to shoot tethered while in that module the photo will not update as I shoot. I am using Nikon Camera Control Pro & Lightroom to see my Photos appear on screen as I shoot and while I can view and read a histogram i thought it would be even better if I could see the clipping....
    Thanks,
    Kevin

On my set up- diff. camera Mfg,- I can shoot with card in. Kinda a nice backup, too. Also, I am pretty sure it displays (if set to do so!) whether there's a card or not. Mileage varies.

  • Can I Rotate Without Having To Go Back to the Library Module?

I only see rotate arrow buttons in the Library module. Is there another button in Develop so I don't have to keep going back?

Use the Photo > Rotate Left/Right menu commands (the menu items show the keyboard shortcuts as well).

  • Encore CS6 Freezes in Preview Mode when using Remote Control buttons

This appears to be one of many issues with ECS6 and I've seen them all from the library problem on out. I authored a DVD in ECS6 (with latest updates as of an hour ago) and all went without error. I discovered two things:
    1. Music was missing from the main menu video, but was there in the submenu video and there in preview.
    2. Remote could not navigate buttons on submenu.
This led me to use the "remote control" buttons instead of the mouse to try and debug this and this is rather consistently crashing Encore. So not only have I not resolved the music or button navigation problem in my finished DVD but I've discovered a rather repeatable crash.
Anyone seen this? The buttons I chose have bounding boxes which are crazy big relative to the visible area of the button and I can't make them smaller. As a result they overlap (but don't turn red). didn't know if that was part of the remote navigation issue.
    I'm using:
    1. ECS6 (with latest patches)
    2. Resource library from ECS5.1 because the forums seem to indicate that the library issue is not resolved.
Hard to believe the resource files would make a difference but there it is.

For the music missing part -
Did you link the Audio of Menu as in the below screenshot .If you have not then the audio will be missing

  • Lightroom 4b - basic tone controls are not intuitive, and need some work (in my opinion).

I've come up with a variety of settings that I consider optimal in PV2012 that turn out to be totally counter intuitive.
I don't think this is a good thing.
    One should be able to:
    - up the exposure when it's underexposed, and down the exposure when it's over-exposed.
    - adjust shadows and highlights (and midtone balance) to taste...
    - fine tune darkest tones by adjusting blacks slider (maybe have a separate control for adjusting black clipping point from the control that is used for stretching or compressing darkest tones most, or just use tone curve...).
    - fine tune lightest tones by adjusting whites slider (we already have a separate control for adjusting white clipping point: exposure).
That is not how Lr4b is working for me at all.
Having to radically increase exposure to brighten the shadows, then set the highlights to an extreme negative value when the net effect ends up being brighter highlights, is indeed *very* counter-intuitive.
Conversely, I've had cases when I've had to radically reduce exposure on photos that weren't particularly over-exposed, in order to get the balance of mid-tones/shadows/highlights to work out. - very counter-intuitive, and took me a long time to get it right.
    See related thread: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_4b_improve_basic_tone_cont rols
PS - I've also found myself adjusting blacks or whites in order to reach further into the midtones, instead of shadows & highlights - this is just bass freakun' ackwards!...
    Rob

    Hi Bill,
    All input is welcome.
Whites slider is the exposure slider's second cousin. Like exposure, it affects all tones, but it affects brightest tones more than exposure. It's almost like the right-end equivalent to fill-light in Lr3. If you just want to get overall exposure + shadows and highlights in the ballpark, it can be done very quickly with Lr4b. I however always want to control the exact brightness of each and every tone, from black to white, and do it in such a way that there are no "flat" regions or desaturated regions. That's when things get tricky. For example, what if you have a photo whose tones are in the ball park, but the middle tone is not bright enough. This happens a lot to people who under-expose in the interest of preserving highlights, then need to bring up the brightness of the whole picture, except for the whites, bottom end mostly. In Lr3, you increase fill light, and if it brightens too much somewhere you decrease brightness there. In Lr4b, increasing the shadows won't reach it. You can get at it by increasing the blacks, but then that unanchors the black point (and messes up the darkest tones which weren't anywere near the midtone target). You can't pull it rightward using highlights, because that won't reach either, and anyway will overbrighten highlights. You can pull it leftward using whites, but then your whites may become too bright. So, what do you do? increase exposure. But then that blows out the whole top end. So what do you do? Decrease highlights. But now you've just affected a bunch of other tones which were not near the tones that were the original target of your desired adjustment. It's all very squirrelly and non-intuitive and requires iteration. Note: I've spent several dozens hours experimenting, I'm not an Lr4b newbie by a long shot - granted, I'm also still very much learning.
I really think Adobe should consider altering the algorithm such that one can use the slider that represents the tones closest to the desired target tone, then adjust the next closest sliders as compensation... - Everything blending as gracefully as possible with the adjacent zone.
e.g. (not talking about setting white and black point, which should be independent of all this)
    - blacks: adjusts darkest tones most, shadow tones next most, midtones next most, highlight tones next most, and lightest tones least.
    - shadows: adjusts dark tones most, black tones and midtones next most...
    - midtones: adjusts midtones most, dark and light tones next most...
    - highlights: adjusts light tones most, midtones and lightest tones next most...
    - whites: adjusts lightest tones most, light tones next most, midtones next most...
Kinda like the tone curve, except with the benefits of the magic logic for recombining tones, which is what makes adjusting tone via the tone controls different than using the tone curve in the first place.
This way, if you want to add fill light into the deepest regions, you increase the blacks most, if that brightens the shadows too much, then adjust the shadows a little, if that affects the midtones too much, then adjust the midtones a tiny bit, and if that affects the highlights a smidge, then adjust the highlights by the tiniest of smidges. Affect on whites by blacks slider is probably negligible.
In other words, make the implementation match the zones as you see them in the histogram. For example, in the histogram we have:
    - blacks
    - shadows
    - exposure
    - highlights
    - whites
Except they don't really do what's suggested by that zone graph:
    - black slider adjust midtones and light tones more than shadow slider does.
    - shadow slider hits a midtone wall.
    - exposure affects lighter tones even more than midtones.
    - highlights hits a midtone wall.
    - whites adjusts midtones and dark tones more than highlights slider.
Is it possible to get exactly what you want with this scheme? - yes.
Is it tricky as he|| - yes.
So Bill, if Lr4b is working for you, then more power to ya. I can make it work for me too. But I think the implementation is not very intuitive, requires mutliple iterations which can take a lot of time, and there may be room for improvement - thus this thread.

  • Crystal Report/STRUTS: Error (404) when clicking on Control Buttons (Print, Export, Next, Previous, etc...) on report viewer

    Post Author: jwenny
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Need help badly!!!
We are using the crystal reports plugin for STRUTS.
We are able to display the report in the crystal report viewer.  However, when we click any control buttons (print, export, etc...), then we get:
JSPG0036E:  Failed to find resource /Report-viewer.jsp
We then moved Report-viewer.jsp to the WebContents folder (root directory) and got a different error when we clicked any control button:
    Error:  400 page not found
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?  For instance, is there a setting or parameter that needs to be set?
    Greatly appreciate any help!

    HI,
Whenever we print the viewer does an auto postback, I believe due to this some of the values are getting missed. Moreover we are referring to the viewer and reportdocument object, it seems. So can you try this simple code in an application to see if it helps:
    ReportDocument rdoc = new ReportDocument();
    rdoc.Load("C:\TASKECrystalReports\Intraday.rpt");
    rdoc.SetDatabaseLogon("uid","pwd");
    rdoc.SetParameterValues("parameter name","value");
    CrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = rdoc;
    Helps?
    Thanks.

  • Photos in Develop module look different when switching to library module

Hello everyone this is my first post on adobe.  I ran into a problem today for the first time using lightroom 5.  I recently purchased lightroom 5 about 2 weeks ago and have been in love using it.  I have ran into 0 problems until today.  I uploaded some new photos and was going through them under the develop module editing the photos and what not.  When I am done editing I usually go to the library module and export them.
Today I tried to do that exact thing and ran into this issue:  the colors in the photo are changing ever so slightly when I switch to the library module and are not exporting exactly as I edited them in the develop module.
I have tried changing the contrast/clarity to see if it would remain when switching and it does.  But for some reason the yellow on the flower in the picture becomes less vibrant when seen/exported from library module.  It is very frustrating because I spend alot of time editing the photo in a develop module and every transfers but the colors it seems.  It becomes more dull and less vibrant.
It is not the photo itself.  I think it is something wrong with my lightroom?  I uninstalled and reinstalled and the same issue keeps happening.

Just to clarify. When you compare the exported image to the original inside LR do they look the same when viewed together in the Library module, and how about when both are viewed in the Develop module? Are you using a wide gamut monitor and do you also use a hardware monitor calibrator? All of these things affect how images looks in LR and some are fixable, but others are not as Web Weaver posted.
There is also another issue that can cause the Library module view and exported images to look different than they do in the Develop module:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/afm8rbh6tnc31
The solution is to view the image at 1:1 (100%) view size. You can also use more conservative Sharpening settings (i.e. lower) and more aggressive Luminance Noise Reduction settings (i.e. higher), which will significantly decrease the view difference.
