Tone Curve beginning & end points - not moving

I am not the most technical guy in the world so I'll try to explain this as best as I can. In LR 4, why am I not able to drag the Tone Curve points up and down at the very start and end of the of the graph like in LR 3? I can drag them up and down everywhere except at the start and end points of the axis. This is one of my most used editing areas so it's quite disappointing and I can't get the result I want in LR 4. I have presets from LR 3 that can change the starting point on the tone curve but I can't fine tune it. Hopefully I explained this well enough because I would love some help on this. Cheers.

I think it's normal behaviour as per:
When you try to move vertically , the curve follows the lighter grey shape: this is region editing.
To do point curve editing  click on the little graph curve and then you can do what you want, as per:

  • Photoshop CC ACR hangs on point tone curve Ctl-click point placement

This is very repeatable on PS CC ACR 8.2 on Windows 7.
Open a .DNG file in ACR from Bridge CC, go to Tone Curve Point tab, hold down Ctl and move the cursor (which is now an eyedropper) over the preview.  After a few seconds, ACR hangs.  If you then try to click on Cancel, a 'CC not responding' popup comes up and in the detail box is the following:

  • Start-End points not working when sent to Encore

Hello all, I tried to send a project to Encore but I got an error and Encore closed, I did it again and it worked but the start-end points didn't work, I got the whole project. I have since gone back to a former project which I had previously outputted small segments for YouTube and no matter where you set the Start-End points you get the whole project. Is Encore now corrupt or have I changed something ?

I don't quite know what you mean, I opened a project that I left set to output a small portion for You Tube. I clicked dynamic link send to Encore, when Encore opens the whole timeline is there,or am I getting confused ? do you always get the whole timeline start to finish when you send to Encore or are you supposed to get just the part between the start-end points ?

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Pointer not moving

Need some advice. My 7 month old IMAC wireless mighty mouse is scrolling fine but does not move the pointer...can someone help? Thanks!

    Hi Rich:
That file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences. Sometimes (rare, but it happens) preference files become corrupted - causing all sorts of odd behavior.
If that does not help, try resetting the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not fix the problem, take the mouse to an Apple store or call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty issue. Apple does replace things under warranty at no cost (shipping paid both ways). I have had a mouse and keyboard replaced in the past and was pleased with the service.

  • The latest flash plugin 10.3.181.34 makes my mouse pointer disappear when pointer not moving (Windows Vista) - any thoughts?

When I start firefox 6.0 beta, the mouse pointer disappears once firefox has initialized itself. If I move the mouse pointer, it reappears, then disappears again when it is at rest.
If I disable the flash plugin, the mouse pointer behaves normally, i.e. it is always visible.

Firefox 5.0 does the same thing as stated above.

  • Cursor Pointer not moving via KeyPad

All of a sudden my touchpad isn't working. My cursor won't move using it. Even the 2 buttons on it won't work either. I don't have a button that  turns it on and off like my last computer so I have no idea why it did this all of a sudden.
Any ideas on how to get it to work again? I had to dig out my mouse which works thank goodness.
    Thanks!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was having this same issue on a Windows 8 Toshiba Satellite laptop. I noticed that the F5 key had a picture of a touchpad and a touchpad with a slash through it. I had accidentally pressed that! It turns off your touchpad. I pressed it again and it was working again.

  • Lr3 Tone curve Tutorials ?

I've done some googles for Tone Curve Tutorials but have not had much luck finding much - can you folks point me to some well explained or 'good' ones please?
    Thank-you ~

Ian, thanks a lot for your interest in my problem.

Not sure what your issue issue because you can place as many or a few points on the Point Curve as you need to maintain control.
My problem is that the global effect a single point move entails forces me to use a large number of points. In order to adjust a local region (e.g., lift a small range of the midtones but leave everything else the same), I have to use at least seven points. Try this:
Start from a straight, unedited curve.
Insert a point at ~36.9 (X-axis) and move it up to 50% (Y-axis)
Insert a point at ~67.8 and move it down to 50%
Insert another point at ~50 (between the first two) and keep moving it up and down from 20% to 80%; watch the shape of the overall curve while doing this.
See how the "highlights" and "blacks" parts of the curve are heaviliy influenced while you are moving that middle point? Because of this, I find myself putting in more and more points to stop areas I don't want to see affected from changing shape. Try yourself to insert points to stop the local effect you want to achieve from having a global effect. You'll find that your additional "stop the effect"-points will themselves cause a non-local effect that you'll have to stop with further "stop"-points, etc.
I do realise that the tone curve needs to be smooth (mathematically, there shouldn't be any discontinuities in its first-order, or even second-order, derivation). I therefore understand the rationale of using splines and I also realise that LR is not the only program handling tone curves this way. However, I think the effect of moving one point is too global (i.e., non-local).
Still assuming the scenario above, try to put two "stop the global effect"-points at ~78/78 and 88/88 (in an attempt to have the highlight region unaffected by moving the point at 50. Then go back to step 4, i.e., move the point at 50 up and down. See how the shape of the curve between 88 and 100 still changes with large moves of the point at 50? That effect is completely unnecessary to make the curve smooth. It is just a side effect of using a particular kind of spline for the tone curve.
I hope I better expressed myself this time. Please let me know if a screenshot would help. It would be great if you could try the scenario and see whether you agree that some of the non-local effects are not really what the image editor intends.
P.S.: For recreating effects similar to that of the parametric control in a more precise way, I agree that the point edit mode works well. It is the "adjust small ranges of tonal shades" use case where it fails. I don't need the latter often but when I do, using the points is very laborious and often I feel like stopping before I got what I wanted because it is just too much of a hassle to fight all the ripple through effects.

  • Defining End point

    Hi all,
I have a standalone XI 2.0 and my scenario is
    file - XI - idoc (R/3)
i have the flat file in my XI box and im using inbound file adapter.
but i have a problem in defining the end point .
im getting an error message like
end point not defined for the sender system
my sender system is XI and my receiver system is R/3
im  using file inbound adapter and idoc outbound adapter.
i have defined the end point for the receiver system as idoc.
wht will be my sender system endpoint .
if any has any idea pls help me.
    thankx,
    shree

    Hi Shree,
Yes, it's true that in your case the flat file my in fact reside on the XI machine. However, from an XI point of view, you must still register the file adapter first within the SLD and then do the appropriate configuration within XI as Bjorn mentioned. Consider a situation where you may have a file to file scenario with XI performing transformation in the middle...in this case you need two "logical" systems here even though they are installed on the same physical box. One for the first file adapter instance and another for the second file adapter instance.
    Good luck!!!

Hi, I'm trying to drag the bottom point of my tone curve to kill the shadows, but it does not allow me to move it.. Can someone help?*

This little point curve graph does not really look like a clickable button, that's why .
In LR you can try to click/doubleclick  on everything you see: text, boxes, triangles.  There are some surprises!
That's without talking keyboard shortcuts !

  • Drawing small, short curves in Photoshop draws straight line between start and end points

I recently installed Windows 8 Professional, Photoshop and the latest Wacom Bamboo tablet drivers and have been experiencing this issue. I've turned off windows flicks and ink. This only happens in Photoshop with the brush tool and I can't seem to find a setting that this corresponds to.
Basically, when I draw small, short curves (particularly letters like 'c' and 'h'), when I lift up my pen, Photoshop automatically connects the end and start points together with a straight line ('c' almost becomes 'o' or 'a'). I'm not holding the shift or any modifier keys. I've tried googling this issue, but I have no idea how to phrase it properly to get any results.
Here's an image of what I'm talking about (the top was drawn with the pencil tool, the bottom with the brush tool which demonstrates the issue. I've highlighted the start and end points with red dots):
    ANy ideas? :/

    Is caps lock on?

  • Setting White/Black Points using the Tone Curve

I'm trying to set white/black points using the tone curve, but when I try to slide either of the end points of the line in the tone curve tool I can't get them to move. Could those be locked somehow...?

That's what it is supposed to do. Without the sliders, you are working with the curve itself. Now you have direct control of the curve, and can drag any part of it. Have you considered setting your white and black points using the whites and blacks in the basic panel while holding down the alt/opt key? I suppose the reason it says point curve is because that icon is what you used to switch to the point curve.

  • Once again, the dredded exclamation point has popped up next to several of my songs. I have not deleted anything, have not moved anything; all I did was try to sync my phone, which I have not done in a few months. Please help

I have found that the exclamation point is back next to several of my songs. I have not moved any files, or deleted any files. I need help so that I can figure this out and have my music back on my iPhone. I can play it on my Mac just fine, and it says it is all on my phone, but I see this ! Next to most of the songs and I have about 8 GB less than before. Someone please help me solve this issue, something that I thought Apple would have been rid of by now. Again, please help me.

Okay, I followed the step from another support community:
    1. Open Finder
    2. From the side bar, click the home folder
    3. Go to MUSIC>iTUNES>iTUNES MEDIA
    4. Open the corresponding folder for the folder type you're looking for. The contents of the folder will be listed in alphabetical order. Depending on the folder, the files will be sorted by author, artist, or title.
Now, I found the files, and I can play my music through this and even in my iTunes library, where the info on each song is still available. Why can't this information transfer to my iPhone?
