Too far away

My MacBook pro is too far away from my router to connect. What is the name of the relay device that I can put half way between? Also do I have to configure something to make that work?
Nick

Airport Express is the cheapest way to go and yes you'll have to join your wireless system to extend the range. It may not work with a wireless router that isn't an Apple product.

Sorry to be such a moron with this, but I just don't have much experience with this iPad.  I have had it for over a year and I just keep adding stuff to it and it has worked great.  Now that the memory is used up, I am trying to figure out how to free up space and not lose what I have paid for.
So, Step 1 is complete, as I have "Transferred" all of the purchases.
What is Step 2?  I unchecked the concert on the iTunes library, did a sync, but it's still on my iPad.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • My cabinet has fiber yet I am too far away to get ...

    Hi Guys,
I was wondering whether I have any options as appartenly I'm too far away to recieve fiber?
Currently my area get <1Mb down so I'd be happy if fiber got us up to something like 8Mb however I'm told they can not check this. I know the further from the cabinet you are the worse the speed will be however the pub I can see across the fields (roughly 1 mile away) receives fiber and has around 15Mb down. Will that mile really make it worthless?
    Details:
Exchange HELSTON is served by Cabinet 21
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
ALSO - is there an option to change what cabinet we're on?

Ah, FTTPoD is available to you. It would help because you could get 330Mbps down and 30Mbps up lol.
And yes, it is stupidly expensive but you wouldn't have to go out, so you could sell your car for example.
I suggest you contact Pishnet and see if they can give you some idea of the cost.

Apparently I'm far away from the exchange and so nothing much I can do.  After 6 years I am starting to get very frustrated! any ideas? Apart from move to another provider

    Yes there is also that.
If you could run a check here https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html and post back the results.
And also if you want to search for your exchange on Samknows it will tell you what's available there, if there is cable around your exchange Im pretty sure BT Infinity would be available.
    Also have you tried this:
As standard, the bell wire should be taken out of any master or extension socket as this can reduce the amount of interference your broadband can pick up and sometimes speeds up your broadband and increases the stabibility, see how to remove it here http://bit.ly/qc3bZ4
Also you could try a tidy up of your cables as per this users (RogerB) post : http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217

  • If I need to get my iPod fixed but I live too far away from an Apple store, can I mail it to them?

I've been having issues with my iPod Touch 5th generation, not due to wear or abuse, and my search has led me to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store. The nearest Apple Store to me is over 3 hours away. Is there any way I could mail it to them to get fixed or replaced? Or do I have to have to drive all the way there to have it looked at in person?

  • My iPhone needs replaced, but I live too far away from an Apple store?

    Hi everyone,
So my iPhone is water damaged, I can't ring people when I call them and the screen is broke. It is still under warranty but the problems I am experiencing aren't covered. I know you can get your iPhone 3GS replaced with a refurbished replacement phone for £126 and you usually have to go to a Genius Bar to get that sorted. I live 50 miles away from the nearest store and I really need to get my phone sorted. Is there anyway I can send Apple my iPhone through the post and pay for the refurbished one via card? Thanks!

  • My ipad won't connect to the internet because I am too far away from the internet connection box.

I cannot get my ipad to connect to any WiFi because of where it is.  When I am next to the internet box, the signal is stong, but once I change rooms the signal goes away.  What do I do to change this?  I want to be able to be in any room of my house and still use my internet on my ipad.  Anyone have any ideas!! Please help!

Sounds like your "internet box" (router) has a weak antenna, or a weak signal setting. You will have to figure out if your router has a power setting to boost its signal.  Look in the manual for it.
Or get a better router with better signal. There's nothing from the iPad side that can be done to increase the signal though.
You might also want to try positioning the router in other locations, there may be something near it that may be interfering with the signal.

  • [Solved] Can't get an IP when too far away from router

    Hello everyone!
I just installed Arch Linux on my Netbook and configured my internet connection. First everything ran very well but then I tried to establish an internet connection from my room (2 floors above the router). I just wasn't able to get an IP!
I searched for a solution and found out that maybe dhcpcd causes the problem so I decided to install NetworkManager which uses dhclient ( also it's easier to use than running 'wifi-menu' everytime I want to connect to a new network ).
But there I get the exact same problem.
I used elementary os on this Netbook before and everything worked fine. I got an IP adress everytime and it didn't even take long to get it as it is now. Elementary OS uses NetworkManger too. Does anyone have an idea what I could've done wrong?
I just find an dhclient.conf.example in /etc/ and no dhclient.conf
The content of my /etc/NetworkManger/NetworkManager.conf is:
    [main]
    plugins=keyfile
    Thanks in advance!

@ewaller My Netbook hasn't got Bluetooth. With before i mean that it worked the last 1,5 years. I didn't notice a new router or any other changes.
@nomorewindows The Arch Kernel Version is:

  • My ipod...a friends computer...too far away to use old one

well heres the story: Im visiting my friend in arkansas and I live in cali...so obviously I cant get to my computer to charge the ipod...
isnt there a way to charge my ipod on another computer without losing all my songs?
    please say yes

The least expensive way is a USB Wireless adaptor. However, you can't buy "just any" because most do not come with the required Mac software drivers.
    I like this one:
Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter + Plug and play direct or with extension cradle
It comes with proper drivers and the "cradle" lets you move the antenna for optimum reception.
If your iMac's USB 2.0 ports, you will get rather decent speed with this device. If it has USB 1.1, it will still work but not as fast. G4 1Ghz iMacs could have either 1.1 or 2.0 ports, so it's hard to predict without knowing more details.

    Thanks
    Ollie

    Hi again ollie44,
BT Retail who offers FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) BT Infinity which is their brandname for fibre broadband, to customers who are estimated 15mbps or above for FTTC.
You can still get FTTC fibre broadband from BT Retail if you are estimated under 15mbps for FTTC though the product is called Faster Unlimited broadband.
FTTC fibre broadband currently enables a upto 80mbps broadband service, though this will depend on how far away you are from the FTTC cabinet and the quality of your landline.
FTTC fibre broadband uses VDSL or VDSL2 signals that travel from the FTTC cabinet to your property via the existing copper (sometimes aluminium) line. The further away you are from your FTTC cabinet the slower the fibre FTTC broadband will be.
However VDSL/2 signals used for FTTC broadband connection degrade far quicker in terms of distance than conventional ADSL broadband signal do.
Generally speaking if your landline is over 1500 meters in length from the FTTC cabinet to your property then you may not be able to get BT Infinity as you may not be able to achieve over 15mbps from an FTTC service.
Here is a graph that shows the ADSL(G.DMT,ADSL2 and ADSL2+) and VDSL/2 (FTTC) signal with distance. Please be aware that all ADSL connections are depend on distance from local exchange, where as FTTC (VDSL/2) connections are depend on distance from your FTTC (DSLAM) cabinet. Though all connection types are also depend on line quality.

  • Title "Far Far away" scrolls too fast regardless of its duration settings

In iMovie 10, when I place the far far away title on top of an image that is displayed let's say 18 seconds. Than my text scrolls in the first 6 seconds, even though I configured the far far away title lenght to 18s. How do I solve the speed of scrolling?
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards,

  • Fan is too noisy, have an idea of putting the case far away, dont no i

    hello,
i'm really happy with my board and my cpu, the only thing that makes me think of going back to intel is the noise!  i'm thinking of putting my tower far away but dont want to stand everytime i need to access the cdrom or floppy.
anyone still remembers or who owned the ibm aptiva s-series?  yes, the one with the media console?  problem is, i dont know what kind of interface it uses, to where the cable connects to.  so, if there's anybody, who owned this system previously, do you know what kind of connection is that?  is that scsi?
you can still buy these consoles on ebay
    thanks,
    edison

    edison,
Are you using Factory Cooling or do you have another heatsink and fan?  I have found the AMD Retail CPU/Heatsink/Fan to be quite quiet next to my 60mm Delta 7200rpm Cpu Fan.

  • How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames)

How do I go directly from one frame to another particular frame which is far away in the time line? (e.g the two frames are separated by 100 frames). I mean, is it possible to take the playhead from one frame to another frame directly which is 100 frames away in the time line? Thanks for any reply.

In the Timeline, go to the first frame and press M to put a marker on it. Go to the other frame you want to jump to and put a marker on that one too.
Now press Ctrl+Semicolon to go to the previous marker - or Ctrl+Comma to go to the next marker.

  • TM backup far away, off site?

    Hi folks,
Time Machine works great, it has saved me already on a couple of occasions. But the best backup would be a backup drive far away. After all, if a house fire or flood wipes out my MacBook, it would wipe out my backup drive as well. My dad lives 200 miles away. He has broadband. He has a MacBook, too, if it matters. If I bought a 500 gb external backup hard drive and put it at my dad's place, how could I set things up for me to do backups to that drive off-site?

Yikes. I found the "remote" directions. Lots of code to write, endless opportunities for screwing up not only my computer but my dad's as well. I don't think that's wise.
I've made it work when I tried in the past but yes, it can be intimidating.
I don't see anything about remote backup with Super Duper. I even checked their discussion forum. Can you point me in the right direction to that functionality? Tx.
you can create a sparse disk image on the remote computer and back up to that. enter "backing up over a network" in Superduper help for details.

  • IMovie HD 6 Editing with "far, far away" title

Is there any way to slow down the speed of the copy moving up the screen when using the "far, far away" title? The slowest I can get it to go is a 1 minute duration and that is too fast for my purposes.

I also like the mock Star Wars rolling credits, but find the version in iMovie 6 inadequate.
I therefore use an application called (surprise!) 'Rolling Credits' from:

which works a treat, but now costs $19.95!
