Too high resolution of pdf file

Is it possible to decrease the resolution of a pdf file? And if so, how?

Not with Adobe Reader. You could possibly do it with Acrobat.
Keep in mind the PDF itself has no resolution. If there are images, they will have resolution (and they can be different).

  • Are JPEG 3504x2336 pixel pictures too high resolution for the photo books?

    Hi,
I am done creating my photo book and I am ready to order, but I'd like to know if my pictures are too high resolution. They are professional wedding pictures so they are 7.4 mb each JPEG 3504x2336 pixel pictures. (Last time, I printed through MyPublisher but the pages with multiple pictures didn't turn out well and they said it was because the resolution was too high so when they compressed the file for the pages with multiple pictures it didn't turn out well.) Will I run into the same problem if I print directly through Iphoto?
If I do need to lower the resolution, how do I do it, given that I've aready created the book?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When you order the book it will be compressed and a PDF will be created. That PDF is what gets uploaded to Apple (via Kodak) for printing. So the best way to check your book before ordering is to create a PDF, then inspect it. Chances are, what you see in your PDF is what you will get printed.
To do this, select your book and do File > Print. You'll get an "Assembling book" progress bar. That can take several minutes. When done, you get the Print Dialog box. Click the PDF button and choose "Save as PDF..." Choose a name and location for the file (the Desktop is convenient) and Save. Then switch to the Finder and open that PDF in Preview. You might select a page or two and do a test print yourself, to see if the quality looks good. The PDF saves you from having to print out the whole book yourself to check for errors.

  • Scan resolution of PDF file from HP Officejet 4630

Hi, I'm running Mac OS9.1 and a HP Officejet 4630, and the HP Scan App. Appears to scan correctly, image in the App is good but when I save from the Scan app the PDF image is approx 4 times the size of the A4 page, ie when I open the PDF file only the top left quarter of the scanned page is visible and the text is enlarged and stretched slightly horizontally. I have tried a number of different scan resolutions and color depth options without any success

    Robintonqld welcome to the forums!
I saw your post about the scanning issue you are having with your Officejet 4630 on Mavericks. I have some ideas that might help!
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer (not the AirPrint driver)
    Test scan
Let me know how that works!

  • Too long to Open pdf files

I have a Latop with Windows XP SP3 and Adobe 9.1 Pro. From one day to another, every time the user tries to open any pdf file (with a double click) it takes about 1 to 2 minutes to open. If I do the same with Adobe Acrobat - File - Open, the situation seems normal. I already install the Adobe and re-install it again and the situation is the same. Any suggestion what to do? Thanks R

When you double-click on a file Acrobat needs to launch first, load all the plugins, scripts, etc. and then open the file.
When you go to File - Open from within the application it has already launched and loaded everything and just needs to open the file.
So you can't compare the two.
Anyway, beside Michael Kazlow's valid questions, you can try to hold down Shift while loading the application. It's supposed to bypass all the plugins and load faster.

  • Blank pages in pdf file!?!

I just created a 100-page book with 567 photos. All looks well in iPhoto, but when I "order" the book and then look at the generated pdf file, the first 74 pages look fine, but pages 75 to 100 are blank! I've repeated this process several times and each time the results are the same.
Anyone have any idea why and what I can do about these blank pages? I'd like to submit the book to Apple as soon as possible, but I don't want to take a chance of receiving a book with 25 blank pages.
    Thanks!

    Hi!
I'm using the Picture Book theme. And after much tinkering, I think I've found the problem -- and the solution.
Remembering posts from some time ago discussing ways to improve the quality of the printed photos -- including tweaking the iphoto prefs file -- I used the Property List Editor app to check my book settings (BookTargetDPI-BookTargetMediumIMageDPI-BookTargetSmallImageDPI). The three items were all set to 300. I reduced them to 250 each, then tried 'ordering' the book again. Lo, and behold, there were now 20 fewer blank pages. So I set about playing with different combinations of settings, trying to find the optimum resolutions that would print all 100 pages. I've ended up with something like 250-220-220.
Now I have no idea what these settings actually control, or what the optimum settings would be for this or any other book project, but clearly, they affect how many pages are accepted for printing. While the 300-300-300 settings worked for my last book, that book was only 20 pages. For this current book, those numbers are too high.
I looked at many of the other posts in this forum and wonder if those having trouble with blank pages haven't also played with these settings. I tried moving the iPhoto prefs file out of the Library/Preferences folder in order to force iPhoto to create a new file with default settings, and discovered that 150-150-300 seem to be Apple's preferred settings. But the very first book I ordered from Apple, which used those settings, was a bit disappointing in terms of resolution. Hence my boosting of these numbers for the second book.
The problem of blank pages could also have something to do with file size. At the higher resolutions, the generated pdf file tipped the scales at a beefy 193 MB, but at the lower resolutions, the pdf file is a relatively svelte 133 MB. There might be some limitation built into iPhoto to prevent people from trying to send1 GB pdf files to Apple's printers.
In my case at least, the problem is NOT related to the number of photos I'm using. After playing with the numbers, I actually went back and added a dozen more photos, pushing the total to 587 across 100 pages. And with the new resolutions, all photos on all pages print fine.
I wish I knew what all of this meant and how it could be used to predict iPhoto's book creation behavior, but at least I'll be able to print this book now.
Thanks for your quick reply! Hope my experiences help someone else with similar problems.

  • How do I maintain high resolution of my Publisher file when I convert it to PDF?

How do I maintain the high resolution of my Publisher file when I convert it to PDF (I do not have access to a PostScript printer). Am I correct in understanding that the simple answer would be to convert the .pub file into a .ps file and then save this as a PDF?  Which is no use to me because every time I try to convert my Publisher file to PostScript, the process fails because it is looking for connection to a PostScript printer. I need to send a high resolution (minimum 300dpi) PDF version of high resolution MSPublisher files to a commercial printer. And time is running out!

    Hi,
The version set information and the tag hierarchy are stored within the catalog. It sounds as though you haven't brought over the catalog from your old computer.
The recommended way to transfer elements from one computer to a new one is to use the Backup catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your old system and then use Restore catalog from CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your new system. Is this how you did it?
That should have preserved your version sets.

  • High Resolution pdf files

How do I convert a pdf file with graphics and text (created from a MS Word Doc) into a high-resolution pdf file suitable for print media?

In the printer properties or the preferences for PDF Maker (create PDF), select either the press or print settings file. That should do the job.

  • Pdf file (pages template) is too big

I created a newsletter from the "Green Grocer" newsletter template on pages 08. It looks great. I have exported it as a pdf file, but now the file size is 18 MBs and too large for most people to read. It's only two pages. Help! The artwork was not that big to start with. Should I be saving it differently? Eventually I'd like to send it as a mailing with different content every month, so need to solve this.

Use a graphics program like GraphicConverter or Photoshop Elements to reduce the images before inserting them in your Pages document.
I don't notice much quality difference between the three options. I try to reduce the files as much as possible before posting on a web page or e-mailing. The odds are your recipient will be viewing the PDF on the computer rather than printing it. Printing would be more likely to need a higher resolution although I've never gotten any complaints.

  • How to set jpeg resolution when saving pdf file as jpeg

    Hi
I am running a stand-alone version of Framemaket 10.I try to convert a documentation with a lot of screenshots in it. Regardless of the settings on the Reference pages of the first document of the book, Framemaker converts all graphic files to *.gif, and these are downsized so much that they become illegible. I would like to have them converted to JPG, with little resolution loss, so they are still readable.
I think Robohelp is too expensive…

  • Scan to PDF files too large! - Why?? Solution for Windows - How about Mac? (HP-8630)

Scanning a document to a PDF file of reasonable size has been addressed many times - it is always an issue! My wife is a realtor and frequently needs to scan multiple page documents. I found an actual solution last night:
27 page letter-size B&W document - Scan to PDF on my HP-8630 AIO using HP software at 300dpi, small file size, BW: 27MB! Too big to email.
Solution (in Windows 7 at least), if you have Adobe Acrobat:
Open Adobe Acrobat, go to File Menu -  Create - PDF from Scanner - Configure Presets. Select and configure "Black and White Document":
Select TWAIN device (NOT WIA) as the scanner; black and white, 300dpi, file size one notch to left (smaller) from center, check "optimize after scan". Select paper size and one- or two-sided scanning. Uncheck "make searchable". Save the preset. (The TWAIN driver was apparently installed with the HP installer, since I did not have to look for it.)
After placing pages in the Doc Feeder,  go to File Menu, Create - PDF from Scanner - Black and White Document. Watch the magic!
File size 768k!  Quality indistinguishable from the 27MB version, sharp and clear, all 27 pages! Really!
Using the HP software, using a lower resolution or sliding the file size slider to smaller makes a muddy scan, and the file  is still huge compared to the Acrobat technique. MUCH worse quality than the Acrobat 768k version.
Interestingly, using Acrobat to open the 27MB scan and "PRINT" it to the PDF Printer reduced the size to 10MB, with no change in appearance. "Save as smaller PDF" did not reduce the size further.
What gives, HP?? What can Acrobat do  to scan from your AIO that you can't do?
I tried on my Mac as well - we use both. No go. On Mac OSX 10.10.1 with latest HP drivers, Acrobat does not see any TWAIN or other driver from within the dialog box described above. Scanning from HP software again yields about 1MB per page.
Anyone know how to make Acrobat see the scanner on Mac?

    Hi @JosephWit ,
I see by your post that you are having issues with the PDF scanning size being too big. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
The drivers for 10.10 are installed by the Apple Updates. Did you install the 10.9 drivers or are did up run the Apple Updates to install the printer?
Uninstall the 10.9 printer software and run the Apple Updates to install the proper drivers. Then you can scan with the Apple Software.
Connect the printer to the Mac by a USB cable and run the Apple Updates to install the printer drivers.
Go to the Apple, About this Mac, click on the Overview tab and select Software Updates.
Go to the Apple, Printers and Scanners, delete the USB drivers and disconnect the USB cable.
Then add the wireless printer as a Bonjour printer if the printer is networked.
Click on the + sign, highlight the printer, below beside Use: make sure just the printer name is listed. (you might have to click on the drop down to select your printer from the list)
Here is a document for Scanning in OS X v10.10 Yosemite Without HP Software.
If you are having issues with Adobe, run the updates. Product updates.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Security set to allow high resolution printing but pdf won't print

We create a large number of pdf files to send out to
clients, etc. We have been using security on all pdf's being sent out, however, some clients are having issues printing these pdf files even though our security settings are set to allow high resolution printing. Any one have any ideas why? I cannot duplicate the issue for whatever reason, the files still print for me.

I discover I am suddenly having a similar problem as well.
I have recently migrated to a new Intel iMac/Leopard, I'm on a network and trying to print to a Tektronix/Xerox 7700 laser printer. I can print anything other kind of document on that printer as long as it is not a PDF.
When I open the printer window it says the job has been stopped. I choose the job and tell it to "resume" at which point the printer pauses itself. Once it flashed a window that said Operation Not Possible - client-error-something-something and then closed before I could see what the last two words were.
I am currently using Adobe Reader 6.0. I would love to be able to try to print out of 7.0 but there seem to be continual download problems in the form of constant connection failures. I also have Acrobat 6.0 STD - can't print out of either one.
