Too Late to Upgrade?

Hey, guys. I'd like to upgrade the operating system on my macbook but after hearing about OS 10.6, with a supposed 2009 release date, I'm hesitant to purchase Leopard. Can I assume there will be a discount in upgrading to Snow Leopard from Leopard? Information regarding the date and price of the OS 10.6 release you guys have would be appreciated.

Well, you won't hear anything here on this forum that you can't google, no one here will know a release date for 10.6 and we can only assume they will continue the tradition of charging $129 for the latest version of OS X. 10.6 is likely for 2009 sometime, possibly in the first quarter. However jumping to a new operating system, especially one like 10.6 which is introducing some very new elements might not be especially wise. I personally wait for OS X releases to mature a little before I switch platforms, yet have not been disappointed with each release of OS X. Do you have an Intel Mac? 10.6 will likely be Intel only, though who knows, that's just what I'm hoping. I was an avid Tiger supporter, and switched to Leopard to early, and had too many problems with it, including many major 3rd party software problems (Adobe CS3 being the worst.) This is something to consider when thinking about waiting for 10.6 which will introduce some very new core elements.

All Updates to Snow Leopard are gotten from Software Update or from the Apple download site.
There is no Snow "LION". there is Lion and now Mountain Lion buit both of those are Download Only from the Mac App Store. You need to have Snow Leopard 10.6.6, .7 or .8 to have the Mac Apple store link on your Mac.
To get Lion you need to call the Apple Store, 1-800-MYAPPLE, and order it. They will send you a download code to your Apple ID Email address so you can download it from the Mac Appl Store.
Oh and when you call them to order Lion ask about returning Snow Leopard.

Too late to re-activate adobe ...so it closed

Hello
Have I done a catastrophic mistake by being too late to re-activate my Adobe creative suite?
I have had computer problems. When I in the end bought a new computer and tried to install Adobe, the re-activation time had run out.
I did have a possibility to re-activate it off course, but didnt do it immidiately, since I was about to re-install everything in the new computer, and then problems arouse that delayed everything ...and then suddenly it was to late.
I will contact support by phone tomorrow. But if someone can ease my pain, by hinting that it is possible to re-activate it, I will get some sleep tonight...

I AM a wino! I mean hey, look at that glass. It was NOT a Riedel Sommelier Burg glass. Only a true wino would use such a glass. Seems that my review of that restaurant was very critical of their stemware. Food good, wine list well-suited for the menu at a fair "resort price," but the stemware needed a real upgrade. I write that a lot though.
Personally, I would like to see the max. installs increased, as there are many good reasons for people needing to do more than the 5-10 (?) allowed. Not that long ago, a PS user was complaining in the forum, that he could not uninstall his copy of PS every night, when he left the office, so that the cleaning crew could not use it. He wanted unlimited installs. That was a really odd idea, but then I do not know his cleaning crew... Now, Activation does not rub me the wrong way, like it does many. Maybe it is because that I have never had an issue with it. Had I, my opinion might be different.
Adobe, however, knows what they are doing. They write the software, and make the rules. I just buy their software to make my living, and play by their rules. I know that that statement does not belie my "Libertarian" nature, but then I've been a loyal buyer/user for over two decades.

Too late to switch?

I want to change over to the unlimited data plan. Right now I have a feature phone with the $10/25MB month plan. Is it too late to change if I'm going to switch online? I wanted to get a pre-owned iphone but I didn't know if I ordered one today or tommorrow and changed the plan(which you have to do anyway) would I be grandfathered into the unlimited plan or does it take effect when you physically activate the phone. If that's the case I guess I'll have to go to the verizon store tommorrow and get a brand new iphone.(the phone online wouldn't get here until Thursday or Friday) Does anyone know? That's strange, because no where in the iPhone's limited warranty does it state "365 days", but it does state 1 year. I think the only way they could get out of that is because of the battery, which is not covered by the warranty. HOWEVER, it is stated on AT&T's website that claims are handled from 31-365 days, which would explain why the Apple people acted as such. I know you have Verizon, but since it is (essentially) the same device, it's under the same warranty.

Many people have had stories about issues happening as soon as their warranty expires, with products in general.
I'd just consider upgrading, and selling your old one.

You will need to install Lion first I belive. I don't think you can skip ahead two versoins. Are you sure you want the upgrade. Lion and M. Lion are were OSX really started getting buggy and bloated. I am about to format my older iMac and take it back to snow lepard.

Sorry for yet another "Which MBP should I buy" post but I have read through all the of the discussions I can find on this topic as well as around the web.
I am a digital designer who is currently using a PC only because up until now I have never been in the financial position to transition over to Mac.
I am currently trying to decide between getting a a 15" Mac Book Pro or 15" Retina Mac Book Pro.
15-inch: 2.6GHz
2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
High res anti-glare screen
versus:
15-inch: Retina display

I will be using Adobe CS6 Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver sometimes all at the same time. I occasionally have a video project where I will be using Premiere and After Effects. I am also looking into upskilling myself and becoming versed in at least basic 3D modelling. I am looking at a MBP because portability is important.
Given my job, going retina seems like a no brainer but I have a few concerns:
Speed, processing power - which will suit my needs?
This is an investment for me, I want it to last at least 3-4 years:
Is getting a standard MBP now just too late and bidding in the past?
Will resale of a standard MBP suck in 3-4 years?
In 3 years time will I need an upgrade, and if so, how will I even do this with a virtually unupgradeable (from what Ive read) Retina MBP?
About 80% of the time I plan on hooking up the MBP to a Thunderbolt display - whats the point in a Retina?
If I don't get a Retina and I need to start designing Retina graphics, will I be faced with added dificulty because I use standard MBP?
Is it realistic to assume Retina graphics won't become mainstream for 3-4 years allowing me to bide my time with a standard MBP, upgrading to a Retina later?
At work I use a 2-3 year old iMac and the screen is already magical compared to my PC and it seems to do fine for me. I've been in store and played with both and I am genuinely confused. I just feel like getting a standard MBP is like jumping on a train when it's already reached it's destination.
Budget wise I can afford the base level Retina MBP I outlined above but if I can save money, that'd be ideal. Being me I will automatically chose the best possible solution but I need to be rational about my needs. Someone please help, I just want a Mac!

IDisk quits too early, launch too late

i found iDisk is quitting too early, before the apps close. So any app with preferences saved on iDisk will have problems.
Also it launches too late, after the app like Things launch and can't find their database
I thinks is a very bug SL bug.
Also links from iDisk saved in Finder left bar disappear after at every startup

Too Late for Mac OS Extended Journaled??

Hi guys! So i got a another firewire HD, 250GB by acomdata. It's formatted under FAT 32 for both windows and mac, after after reading several posts, it's best to format it under mac os extended. the problem is I already put about 30 GB of files on it. Is it too late for me to reformat it? do i have to remove all the files, then do it? If someone can provide step by step instructions that won't harm my files, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

You understand that if you reformat the drive for Mac OS Extended that you will no longer be able to use the drive on a PC?
If you do reformat the drive you need to do so as follows:
1a (If this is the startup drive.) Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu if using Tiger.) Be sure to use the installer disk for the version of OS X you intend to install.
1b (If this is a non-startup volume or external drive.) Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.

Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help
You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.

I had thought this situation was solved but it just got worse. In addition to being without service for several days I am now being charged a cancellation fee for a broadband service that BT disconnected in error. BT Vision was also terminated by BT but the set up charges are still in place. Does anyone know who the relevant Ombudsman is? I called BT from America on Friday - for an hour - while someone called Aruj sorted out why there is an order 'in progress' that I didn't initiate; why I have fees relating to a problem created by BT and why there are references to a house move that didn't take place and a BT Vision service I no longer have but didn't cancel myself. He assured me it would be rectified and my bill would be reduced by 139 pounds and we would get confirmation of this later that day. I asked him what chance there was that this would not actually happen - he said no chance at all; my new bill would be 23.50.
There was no text message. An online chat person today told me there had been a fee reduction request which had been declined and there was nothing else he could help me with as he dealt only with broadband. But he would get BT Vision to email me. They always seem so helpful.............
I'm sure I'm listed somewhere as 'a problem', there's no other explanation for why I get the runaround

Tempo change delay! Why is Logic changing the tempo too late?

Anyone a solution for this?
My tempo change is set at e.g. 10.1.1.1 from 60 to 30 bpm. But logic is changing the tempo slightly delayed (about half a second too late.)
It looks like logic is to slow to handle the tempo change on time:
When I restart at 10.1.1.1 with the tempo allready set to 30 bpm, everything is fine. Tempo stays at 30 bpm and is not set to 60 bpm during this 0.5 seconds of delay.
But when I start at an earlier position with a different tempo, I get the wrong tempo again during this 0.5 senconds after the set tempo change at 10.1.1.1

Yeah that was it, I realised straight afterwards (I'm just impatient lol). Thanks anyway

Too late to cancel?

I ordered a MBP with the Apple Care. They already processed and charged me for the Apple Care (nothing mailed to me yet), but have not yet shipped my order. Is it too late to cancel the entire order? ill they be able to refund my money for the Apple Care?

In the UK if you can't cancel the order then you can just refuse the delivery. Apple will then refund. I know it doesn't help you in the USA but it might be of use to people in the UK. CoNsumer rights rule in the UK
